Haha fresh, I've been wondering if I can put myself through it again! I absolutely love being a mother and having young ones and always dreamed of a big family, but find the newborn stage (not to mention pregnancy and birth) incredibly hard work! Think I'll just stop with the ones I've got... famous last words Confused

Afreshstartplease · 23/11/2016 13:41

Yes I've said that myself a couple of times! However I really think my body would fall apart and I am so busy now with four.

Omg fresh I am not even thinking about DTD yet! Not until these bloody stitches have come off there will be none of that!Confused

Afreshstartplease · 23/11/2016 14:56

Haha Lillian no me neither but I bet someone from the Oct ladies will be expecting by time babies are four months old ....

OP posts:
derryjojo · 23/11/2016 16:50

I couldn't even think about having another baby at the minute (though everyone keeps asking when no. 2 will be here!)
I'm finding it really stressful, dh has gone back to work and lack of sleep coupled with getting over an infection and ds being sick. I just sit and cry for parts of the day.

Nickname1980 · 23/11/2016 21:38

Oh derry, I hear you! I promise it gets better. Flowers

There have been a few dark days here this last month too (and, as I type, i can hear toddler shouting and crying in bed... just as I've managed to get baby to sleep, now onto the next!)

Afreshstartplease · 23/11/2016 21:52

How old is your toddler nickname?

OP posts:
Nickname1980 · 23/11/2016 22:18

He's 2, fresh, and was pretty easy... until now!!!

LillianFullStop · 24/11/2016 15:51

Hope things are on the up derry and your infection clears up and DS gets better.

The compounded lack of sleep and tiredness can be overwhelming - hope you are getting rest on the weekends with DH around at least?

Kariana · 25/11/2016 11:03

Derry I am the same. Wept this morning at 6.30 when ds wouldn't go back to sleep after keeping me up all night grunting and groaning in his sleep. His wind is getting worse not better Sad Dh was stuck in London last night because of that train incident so I just had to carry on. This new born stage is so hard I feel like I'm not enjoying ds at all.

Newmother8668 · 25/11/2016 13:29

Hi everyone, could I join? I'm so desperate to talk to others ulkkkkgoing through the same thing. My first baby and it's a boy, born on 9th Oct. he has cluster fed every week since he was 10 days old. Had some pretty dark days with baby and now that he's 6 1/2 weeks, he's really fussy. Still exclusively breastfeeding, but incredibly tired.

Afreshstartplease · 26/11/2016 08:35

Welcome newmother!

Ds will be 6 weeks on Tuesday and we have the Hv coming for her appointment that day. Does anyone know if she will weigh him?

OP posts:
TaffetaMuttonfudge · 26/11/2016 09:58

Fresh - she will weigh him. DS2 was 6 weeks on Monday and he's gone from 7lb 9oz at birth to a hefty 12lb!

Anyone got any tips for dealing with a cold ridden 7 week old?!

Afreshstartplease · 26/11/2016 10:35

OMG I wonder how much ds weighs then!

He was 9.2 at 2 weeks

Bless your little one having a cold taffeta I think the general advice is just tlc and feed whenever he wants but TBH your probs doing those things anyway

OP posts:
TaffetaMuttonfudge · 26/11/2016 10:54

Lots of TLC and milk being given, but it's when he stares at me with his big eyes as if he wants me to make it better that really gets to me Sad

You'll have to let us know the weight Fresh Smile

Afreshstartplease · 26/11/2016 10:59

Aww bless him Sad is he managing to sleep OK?

OP posts:
Newmother8668 · 26/11/2016 11:23

Steam also can help a cold. Also a hot towel on their chest.

hungrywalrus · 26/11/2016 20:24

Saline nasal spray, snot sucker and being held in a steamy room. Our little one caught a cold at 2 weeks. It was the most awful thing

TaffetaMuttonfudge · 26/11/2016 21:53

Thanks all, will try the towel thing. He's never slept well, but is sleeping relatively well considering he's all snotty. Smile

Nickname1980 · 28/11/2016 06:27

How often do your babies wake at night?

My 4-wk-old is every 2.5-3 hours for a feed. Takes aboit 40mins + to feed and resettle.

suspect that's prob normal but arg it's torture being woken up from a deep sleep so much!

TaffetaMuttonfudge · 28/11/2016 11:37

Nickname - about the same here, it's torture isn't it? If I'm lucky I don't fall asleep on the sofa with DS on my lap, but I know it will get better (it HAS to!) SmileBrew

Nickname1980 · 28/11/2016 18:24

Total torture! Yep it totally has to get better... Confused soon!

Does anyone use colief or gripe water? Do they work?

TaffetaMuttonfudge · 28/11/2016 18:42

We use both - colief seems to work, Amazon has it cheapest I've seen at about £11.75 for the 15ml bottle (the bigger one) and lasts a good while. It takes a few days for them to get used to it - the first day was poo central! But hardly any colic now. I've used gripe water on the odd occasion but DS likes to spit it back out so a syringe takes ages to do - I'm ruthless and make sure I get him mid cry and get right to the back of his throat so he has to swallow it. Anything else gets spat back! It does work but with the colief I've not had to use it much.

Nickname1980 · 28/11/2016 18:49

Ooh thankstaffeta! Have you also tried infacol?

Not sure what's going on with my little one but suspect it's trapped wind, but who knows?!

It's once a day at around 6, lasts about half an hour to an hour. Much screaming! Farts and burps and back pats seem to help a little bit (which is why I think it might be trapped wind). But wow is it stressful! Especially as that's the time of day I'm on my own with all kids!

TaffetaMuttonfudge · 29/11/2016 00:08

Nickname - I get the same, 4pm-5pm is the witching hour for some reason.

Infacol worked with DS1 but doesn't seem to have much effect with DS2, not sure why. Also, when you get to under half the bottle of infacol it gets annoying to get a full dose, so I find colief easier and probably on a par cost wise given number of feeds per bottle.
