french poor DD Sad my DS has projectile vommed a couple of times when he has been really mucousy, it could be that? Not nice though whatever it is hopefully she feels better soon.

I've just been cuddling DS on the sofa and he kept studying my face and touching his nose. Then I touched his and told him it was his nose, and then asked him if he could touch mummy's nose. He did! Three times. Do you think it is just coincidence, or is it possible that he understands what I was saying/asking? He's so cute!

DomesticAnarchist · 20/12/2016 16:15

DS1 puked earlier Hmm. I've been having a minor freak out but he seems fine this afternoon. Really hope it's not the catching-kind.

Me624 · 20/12/2016 19:16

Dotty that's great! I think the babies are getting to the age where they can really copy something you do. They probably understand more than we give them credit for though.

Sorry to hear about the sicky babies Dom and french. Mines poorly too though not sicky - he has a funny rash and a temperature. Was a bit grizzly this morning but then went really downhill this afternoon, poor little guy. He went to bed fine but I have a feeling I might be up with him in the night. Going to take him to the doctor tomorrow just to get checked out, rashes make me nervous. He's had a really poor run of luck lately with colds and coughs, now this! I really feel like we've had our fair share of illness and it's someone else's turn Sad

1frenchfoodie · 20/12/2016 21:12

I don't think the reason for the puking is mucous - the last 7-10 days has been the only time since starting nursery in mid Oct that she has been snot free. A bit of a mystery so far, and she has had no solid poos for a few days either but she is on fine form otherwise. I will have a peek tomorrow to see if tonsilitis could be in play.

Super cute Dotty , DDs latest is clapping. She apparently did it about 6 weeks ago when I was at work but did not repeat until yesterday when it clicked and she has done loads.

DomesticAnarchist · 20/12/2016 22:16

Yay for clapping 1french!

I think DS2 is giving up BFing Sad. We've been mix feeding since half term, with him happily BFing morning & evening (but refusing during the day). And now he's starting to get fussy about it overnight. He's just had some formula now, though if he wakes again overnight I'm not going to be in a hurry to rush down and make a bottle. That's what boobs and cosleeping are for, surely?!

I BFed DS1 morning & evening till he was nearly 2. It was lovely. It'll be a shame if this one quits before then. I like the idea that I'm giving them antibodies etc.

On the other hand: maybe he'll sleep better?

marmiteandcheeseplease · 21/12/2016 12:09

Dd2 has also started clapping, yesterday she just seemed to "get it", it was so cute!

Sorry to hear about ds2 and bottle preference Dom. I had a friend who had to mix feed due to baby weight issues and her ds eventually just refused boob so she had to give up earlier than she would have liked. Unfortunately her ds was still a rubbish sleeper! But all babies are different so maybe you'll get lucky and have a silver lining to having to give up bf earlier than you would have liked. Fx for you that ds2 doesn't completely refuse bf.

I've been trying to cut down dd2s feeds during the day in preparation for when she starts nursery full time in Jan and I'll only be going in twice a day to feed. Having no luck so far she complains at me till I feed her and isn't easily distracted by food, unlike dd1. Going to have to just hope for the best in Jan!

DomesticAnarchist · 21/12/2016 12:25

Thanks marmite. He did feed again this morning but it's definitely feeling like the beginning of the end.

I expect your DD will cope fine at nursery. She'll be so busy. It's difficult to change the status quo at home, but they seem to adapt well for others. Eventually, anyway!

DS1 has been puke-free for 24 hours. Everyone else is fine. I think we've escaped.

Me624 · 21/12/2016 14:27

Yay to clapping babies! DS hasn't got it yet, he sometimes puts his hands together and sort of bounces them up and down but he doesn't seem to get the concept of clapping them together!

DS is really poorly Sad after a rough night where he was up every couple of hours and really hot the whole time, even with calpol every four hours, I took him to the doctor this morning. He has a bacterial infection and has been prescribed antibiotics, unfortunately the doctor said that it tastes horrible but is by far the best one, they can give an alternative if we really can't get it down him but to try and persevere with this one. He's had two doses so far and gets terribly upset, it's really distressing for me! He has to have it four times a day for a week Shock

His temperature seems more under control today which is good but he's very very grizzly and just sort of whimpers a lot. The most heartbreaking thing is he keeps saying mama when he's very upset which he has only said a handful of times before! It's so horrible to watch them when they're not well isn't it? Makes me really appreciate what my parents must have gone through over the years!

Dottydoodoo · 21/12/2016 15:20

Aww me your poor DS, bless him Sad hopefully the antibiotics start working quickly and he starts to feel a bit better. And the mama! My DS will often say mama when he is upset, just to give the heartstrings a little extra tug. Is there any way you can disguise the medicine in his food so that it doesn't taste quite so bad?

dom yay for no more sick! Yuckity yuck, I wish vomiting didn't exist!

Well done baby marmite and baby french with the clapping. How clever! No clapping here yet but DS finds it hysterical if I clap! DS's latest thing is to touch everything with his index finger, almost as if he is pointing but I don't think he is!

Me624 · 21/12/2016 21:06

Thanks Dotty. DS has barely touched food today so I can't disguise it in that unfortunately! He ate about two bites of a banana and a couple of spoonfuls of cauliflower cheese but was getting very very upset when I tried to feed him. He is drinking milk though so I'm not too worried - he had an extra bottle on top of his usual ones to compensate. I'll just have to be the bad guy with the antibiotics for now - forcing his mouth open with one hand and syringing the foul stuff in with the other, using my elbows to try and stop DS's hands from getting in my way!

Dottydoodoo · 21/12/2016 21:12

Aww bless him me poor thing it must really taste horrible. My DS really went off his food when he had a tummy bug and he adores his food so I knew he wasn't feeling great. He had his normal milk though and was absolutely fine. Horrible seeing them feeling poorly though Sad

DomesticAnarchist · 21/12/2016 22:04

Sorry to hear your DS is poorly, Me. One (slightly brutal) technique I've learned for DS2's inhaler is to lay him on our bed, and to sit by his head with my legs either side and his arms pinned under my legs. It's not glamorous, but it means I can get his inhaler done without a wrestle. I'm not sure administering liquid is a good idea with him lying back, but thought I'd share in case there's something similar you can do.

1frenchfoodie · 21/12/2016 22:27

I feel for you Me, DD had some amoxycillin (banana flavoured) that she actively enjoyed but had an allergic reaction to and she hated the gritty, bitter stuff that we were given instead. It was a relief when the course was over - though she improved from a couple of days in so we at least knew we were doing good as we forced it in to her. Hope your DS starts to feel the benefits soon.

MrsElls · 22/12/2016 04:47

Hope the antibiotics kick in soon me

DD had also mastered clapping, it just clicked yesterday but she is so proud of herself she has been awake clapping for half an hour or so, trying to feed her back so sleep as whilst it is quite cute I'm tired! Ds has already woken me up at 2.30 because he was dreaming about spiders and wanted me to take 'mr skinny legs' out of his room blinking peppa pig has a lot to answer for . Of course dh has slept through it all..

Me624 · 22/12/2016 10:02

Yesterday was so awful but DS is much brighter this morning, thank you for all the kind words. He ate a few bites of toast at breakfast and is just much happier generally. I'm so pleased that he should be feeling ok for Christmas even if his rash hasn't disappeared.

Thanks for the tip Dom, I might try that because although lying on his back isn't ideal it's the only way I've managed to get the antibiotics in so far only I've been laying him across my knees which isn't very safe as he wriggles about so much. The one we've been given is Fluxocillin which definitely isn't banana flavoured, it smells horrid!

MrsElls I love it when they master a new skill and just want to practise it all the time! Not ideal in the middle of the night but love the image of your DD lying in her cot clapping to herself!

Dottydoodoo · 22/12/2016 22:14

me I'm pleased your DS is better today, he and you will be able to enjoy Christmas now.

mrsells your DD sounds so cute. Bless her!

DS was very cute today, he has started to laugh when we do. DH and I were laughing at something the cat did, I was holding DS and he started smiling and giggling too! He is generally just so happy and smiley and giggly most of the time at the moment and I love it, I want him to stay like this forever. I've got some KIT days booked in at work starting in January and while I am looking forward to being back and getting into it all again, the thought of missing anything DS does makes me feel so sad. I'm only going to be working two days a week so I'm really lucky that I still get lots of days off with him, but waaaaaa! I'm nervous too about DH looking after him, I know that sounds awful and I don't mean it like that DH is great with him and they will have a lovely time together, but in all the time DS has been here I think the longest I've left him is an hour and a half Blush. What I'm nervous about is DH preparing his food, sticking to a loose routine and making sure he plays and interacts with DS instead of just being glued to his iPhone. I suggested a trial run but he pulled a face similar to this Hmm! I'm sure it will all be fine but I am a born worrier.

1frenchfoodie · 23/12/2016 07:56

If your baby is anything like mine Dotty your DH will have no option re interaction, she is into everything!

We have another middle of the night clapper here. Still cute at 4am in the dark.

No solid poos here for 5 days. DD is feeding fine (breast and solids) and hydrated as she is doing wet nappies too, guess I just chill unless something changes? She is utterly unphased and luckily the vomiting stopped after 3 days.

FirstTimeMummy25 · 23/12/2016 19:58

De-lurking...
it's lovely to read how all your little ones are getting on. Sorry to hear of the poorly babies, hope they are better before Christmas. We have a clapper here too he's been doing it quite a while now however still no crawling.
He fell off the sofa today onto the hard wooden floor! How bad did I feel I cried, he was hysterical. I'm normally ok putting him on the sofa and nipping to the kitchen. All I did was put his breakfast bowl in the sink and bang! Bad mum alert!! I might have to get a play pen like someone once mentioned on here (can't remember who) as we have the dog too so can't put him on the floor much.
I'm overly excited about Xmas, our first as parents! Can't wait although I know DS won't know the difference to any other dayBlush

FirstTimeMummy25 · 24/12/2016 22:44

Happy Christmas for tomorrow everyone. Hope you all have magical 1st christmas' with your little one SmileXmas SmileXmas Grin

Dottydoodoo · 24/12/2016 23:25

Haha french he is into everything, as much as a baby who gets everywhere by rolling can be! I think DH will have his hands full.

ftm aww I hope you don't feel too bad, these things happen. I ordered a ball pit come paddling pool yesterday with really high sides so that I can confine DS! He loves the little balls so hopefully it will be a success.
No crawling or clapping here yet. DS just laughs at me when I clap! I think he wants to crawl but can't quite loop all the movements together just yet. He spends a lot of time on his front.....flapping!
I'm incredibly excited about Christmas too. Felt all giddy going in to do DS's stocking. We have got my parents coming tomorrow hence why I am still awake at this time I have been busy sorting out food, and I think they are more excited than I am!

Dottydoodoo · 24/12/2016 23:26

Hope everyone has a lovely day tomorrow and that our babies have a wonderful first Christmas Xmas Smile

MrsElls · 25/12/2016 06:11

Happy first Christmas to all the babies, good luck to anyone cooking today and extra good luck to anyone with older dc's who are going to be hit with a barrage of 'can I open it mummy', 'it needs batteries mummy', 'how does it work mummy' notice how its never daddy

Trinpy · 25/12/2016 14:05

Happy Christmas everyone! Hope you're all having a lovely first Christmas with your babies.

I've not been on much recently because ds2 has had cold after cold and teething badly. He doesn't sleep more than 30 mins at a time, refuses to be put down and just cries and cries. We also have PiL here and so it's all high stress and plenty of arguments Xmas Hmm.

I've been following the thread and reading all your posts though. Sorry to hear so many baby's have been feeling poorly recently. The clapping in the night thing is so cute Xmas Smile. Ds2 starts clapping like crazy every time he eats anything!

Are any babies cruising or showing signs of walking yet? Ds2 just likes standing for ages. MiL keeps panicking and forcing him to hold on to something!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 25/12/2016 22:02

Merry Christmas everyone, hope you've all had a fab day. Mine has been lovely except I have the head cold from hell and a nasty cough to go with it, so does dd2, so was up half the night as couldn't sleep. We were supposed to be trying to get dd2 to sleep in her cot this week rather than co sleeping but it seems harsh given she is genuinely ill, not sure what to do.

Sorry to hear about poor sleep and stress trinpy. Dd2s sleep has definitely gotten worse the last month or so and I think we are in sleep regression territory. I keep reading how its best to be consistent and not build up bad habits but we've slipped into whats easiest (co sleeping) and will deal with the fallout later! Blush

Dd2 is now properly crawling at last. She doesn't quite manage to pull her self up yet so not much standing or supporting weight..we had our 9 month check last week and the HV wasn't concerned about her not pulling herself up yet, just said she should be doing it by 1 year.

MrsElls · 26/12/2016 16:54

We had a lovely Christmas until about 7pm when ds (3 years old) fell backwards off a chair, smashed a glass door with his head then hit it hard on a tiled floor Sad. Luckily we have an urgent care centre pretty close so left dd with pil's and hootfooted it down there to have his head glued. It was all dealt with in half an hour and he got a present from the nurse so he was happy but I could have done without it to be honest! He's his normal cheeky self today so obviously no major harm done!
