Dats - what are your other 4 recommendations please? 😄
Great Mohican btw!

Becks - ha! Don't we all want a good kiss?!
Love the reindeer boob! 😄

Primary - great idea re the ear thermometer - I've added it to the Christmas list.
Thanks for sharing the vom shot 😝

I'm very impressed by all the knitting and dressmaking that goes on in this group! I can't sew for toffee, but if any of you clever ladies want a good business plan, I reckon you could do a roaring trade on bright yellow mottled babygros. I'd certainly buy a few - save hours on all this laundry.

Has anyone found baby mittens with elastic attaching them so they don't fall off and get lost? J always has hands and feet like ice blocks (I have terrible circulation too, shame he's inherited it). I'll keep an eye out in the shops, but if anyone's seen any, please let me know. For his feet I've started putting an extra pair of socks on under his babygro.

Feel like I've missed loads while my phone has refused to show emails.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin's little boy and his dad julfin. That's so sad.

Glad your brother's op went well anna. It must be one thing off your mind. Your family all seem so strong but it must be incredibly difficult with everything you've been through and continue to go through. The nursery looks lovely too - can I move in? Wink

I'm interested to hear other people's Christmas ideas. I hadn't even thought of weaning stuff. I've been looking cluelessly in the shops for toys that say 6 months + as I've got no idea. I'm going to order a lovely knitted and personalised Christmas stocking too. My sister and I have ones with our names on that were knitted by a relative but I know dd won't have that. We still love them even though they aren't used so I want to find something as similar as I can (albeit bought given my shocking knitting skills).

Yes, please share the other four recommendations dats.

Fab photos of all the babies ladies.

tams13 · 10/10/2016 09:23

Meant to say julfin that I haven't found mittens on a string. Dd wears leggings a lot of the time so I've been trying to keep socks on her feet and a blanket on her. Will add booties on top when it gets a bit colder. I've also been using scratch mitts as gloves. She wouldn't keep them on when she was properly newborn but they stay on better now (possibly because her hands and wrists are bigger).

Bluebell20 · 10/10/2016 10:51

Anna - deeelighted about your brother's op - hooray! Top work also on the nursery, which I would also like to take up residence in. It's fricking gorgeous. The dogs were taken off us by their parents this morning, thankfully - and now begins the epic removal of dog hair that has somehow got absolutely everywhere! To be fair though they were really well behaved. One fell off a narrow bridge into a ditch yesterday and ended up absolutely stinking, but I suppose she couldn't help that...!

Julf - ahahaha, the second drawer of my freezer is worth a fortune based on those calculations! Love it! Yeah books with no plot are usually Very Bad Things in my eyes, but my nan lent me these and I feel obliged to wade through them. We'll see!

Dats Joss is looking gorge. Is that a handknit I spy? And a rather snazzy quilt beneath him too? Top work on the knitted blanket - moss stitch is a bitch. Ruben is super pukey too, by the way.

primary Ruben & cot are firmly ensconcend in our room now and will be for a really long time because I have to take the cot apart to get it out of the door, which is rather offputting! Boo to the vomity plait. Makes me think of There's Something About Mary... Sorry! Your boob being moon-sized did make me laugh - sorry about that too!

becks that jumper is freaking genius.

Flossie apologies for sharing the wonder that is Pookie Doodle. Hope it doesn't annoy your DH as much as it annoys mine!

OP posts:
Bluebell20 · 10/10/2016 10:58

julf sheer genius on the babygros. I actually have one covered in pale yellow stars which I don't like putting Ruben in because it makes him LOOK as though he's got poo stains on him!

tams I am keen on wooden toys. Can't remember who said that they don't want loads of plastic stuff, but we're the same. We've only been given one noisy plastic thing so far - by someone who doesn't know us all that well - and we immediately sent it off to Ruben's big cousin.

Ruben has started a little habit of crying on and off for two hours before going down for his big nightly sleep. Arghhh! Any suggestions on how to get over this? I was thinking maybe starting a bit more of a bedtime routine, but he hates the bath so much, I'm not sure if that's a good idea. On the other hand, if he's going to scream anyway, he might as well get clean!

Our post-natal group had a visit from a fireman the other week, who told us lots of top fire safety tips (cue me getting even more paranoid than I already am). One of said tips was to shut all of the doors in the house at night to stop fire spreading. I have started to do this. However, at 5am yesterday morning, I forgot that I'd done it and walked face-first very hard into our lounge door in the dark. Winner.

A quick hello from us. I will try to catch up properly at some point.

For those talking about Christmas presents. MB has:

Sophie giraffe
Vetch walker
Vetch phone
Crawl ball
Books that attach to pushchair

We are doing good here. Still not much sleep in the day but I'm managing to get things done. I attend a course once a week on a Tuesday. He's still sleeping through at night 8pm-7am.

I've been quite productive this week. Chimney sweep booked ready for the colder weather, I'm getting my hair dyed for the first time in 10 weeks and I've booked an eye test. I've been wearing the same glasses for driving and watching tv for about 4 years now Blush

Next week we are off to Haven for 4 nights in Essex as its half term here.

julf I'm also on the lookout for mittens on a string, my little Houdini manages to escape from those in built scratch mits on sleep suits so we've no hope keeping gloves on otherwise!

Primary I recommend getting a non contact thermometer, about £40, but worth it in my opinion as you can take temperature without risk of waking them.

That jumper is ace becks!

sundaysunday · 10/10/2016 15:33

Thanks for the Xmas ideas all. I've added Sophie giraffe and books to the list. I'd been interested in those half donut sitting aids like Anna suggested but I'm not sure how much use we might get out of it? Do any experienced mummies know up to what ages babies are likely to need something like that before they start crawling? Or would it be better to get a bumbo seat type thing?

Like a lot of you I'm keen to avoid filling a small house with too much stuff!

Bluebell20 · 10/10/2016 16:10

Sunday our HV said no to a bumbo - apparently they aren't ideal for baby's pelvis, and don't encourage them to use the muscles they will need to sit on their own. She suggested 20 mins a day in them max!

Beaut - lovely to hear from you, and wow you are seriously organised with that Christmas shopping and all the stuff you have achieved!

OP posts:
primarynoodle · 10/10/2016 19:36

Cheers Sunday I will add that to my list!

An idea for mittens for the non-sewing crowd - hole punch in the top of the mitten and tie a shoelace/length of wool/elastic/whatever at each end. Saves £££ and is essentially the same thing! To keep it safe, thread the string through the label in the top of the coat before tying the string onto the second mitten - then no chance of losing them or (more importantly) strangulation!

Sophiesausage · 11/10/2016 07:28

Good tips on the mittens, Sophie's hands are always freezing and she will never keep them under a blanket when we are out. Should do the same for socks too!

Please tell me one of you has been "that mum and baby" when at a baby group?! Baby sensory and Sophie managed ten mins happy before throwing up everywhere and then screaming for twenty minutes. All other babies silent happy. We don't have a cry it's straight to scream like she's in real pain. I know all babies cry, Sophie's just seems to be more intense than others.

And where have the tiny babies gone? We have had to get travel cot for our room as she fills Moses basket and kept waking herself up stretching out. She has been in there two nights now and keeps wriggling herself round 90 degrees so blankets are a no no so going to try a bag tonight which she hated as newborn.

I'm suffering with sleep at night. Can get to sleep fine but wake between 2-4 and then can't get back to sleep. So frustrating as so tired. Going to go to boots today and look at sleep remedies as I find it impossible to nap on the day so have to get my sleep of a night. Especially now madam sleeps 11-6 solid! I need to too!!!

julfin · 11/10/2016 07:52

Ooh Tams, good point re the stocking with the name on it. I might look into this too. Please can we share results?

Sunday - helpful advice re the thermometer, thanks.

Bluebs - I don't think it was me that said it, but we love wooden toys too. If you see any really good ones online, please can you send us the link?
Yes Jasper can be pretty grizzly in the evenings. Not screaming/crying much, but just making lots of moaning noises.
How hot do you make Ru's bath? Jasper hated baths too, until I made them much hotter. I have them almost as hot as I'd have my own, and now he loves baths.
Ha ha, hope your nose is ok after the door incident!

Sausage - Jasper slept in his Big Boy's crib last night for the first time, as his Moses basket is nearing capacity. He slept absolutely fine, and it also made feeding easier as I lowered the side of the crib rather than having to bring him into our (not very big) bed. I got him a sleep bag from John Lewis the other day - it's their own brand and is 2.5 togs. I got the size 6-18m rather than 0-6m - it fits fine and he seems very happy and snug in there.
So sorry you're not sleeping well. Is your DP sleeping in the same room as you and Sophie at the moment? I'd just worry that, with the sleep remedy, you might not hear Sophie if she did happen to wake up and need something.

Beaut - thanks so much for MB's Christmas list, which I've shamelessly plagiarised! Glad you're well. You're a marvel, looking after all those people!

Please can the experienced mammas tell us what toys (or developmental items) a 6-12m baby might like? Someone mentioned books that attach to the pushchair - great idea. I also plan to get some bath ducks. What else? Thank you!

12w and 5d

Sophiesausage · 11/10/2016 08:07

Julfin I was thinking just the herbal type ones that encourage good sleep not knock you out like sleeping tablets? I may have made these up! Will be reading al the packets in boots later!

Feels like it's all of a sudden gone freezing, only seems like yesterday that Sophie was in just a vest n we were trying to keep her cool!! Xx

beckslovestimmy · 11/10/2016 12:58

Re the Xmas presents. I'm going to get Ben stacking rings, and we've got stacking cups from DD, she also liked (and still does) the little box of eggs/chicks. The Lamaze stuff is good. Anything with textured materials. I recently got Ben a 'rain maker' which he loves. I'll add pics coz i have no idea how to do links!! Blush

Hi, I hope you all don't mind me joining you.

My DD was born on the 11th july (3 months old today Grin)

Just wondered if anyone else has had any problems with bottle feeding, for the last couple of days I've really struggled to get DD to drink any of her bottles (she will have a couple of oz's max) she's sleeping a bit more in the day but other than that is her usual happy self.

She was sleeping through and has done from about 3 weeks old (she is a dream compared to DS as a baby!) but has woken for the past two nights for a bottle, I put this down to her going into a cot instead of her Moses basket.

Is anyone else going through something similar?

I'm going to ring the HV in the morning to see what she says.

Ha Becks, re those egg chick toys, don't you find it a bit confusing that they're chicks, but they're in an egg box? Hmm Great suggestions for toys though - thank you!

Welcome, Ellarose! Isn't she gorgeous?! Another girl with beautiful locks. I'm afraid I can't shed any light on the change in feeding pattern, but I agree it's worth calling the HV if you're concerned.

I feel yuck today. DH and J and I all have colds. J is clearly suffering and has been crying really loudly. I'm exhausted. Please get out your tiny little violins Grin I need more of these ChocolateCakeBrewWine

Bluebell20 · 11/10/2016 20:13

Welcome ellarose! My little boy was born on the 11th too! Afraid I have no advice on te feeding situation - I would run it past your health visitor if you're at all concerned.

julf I like the look of BigJigs toys - this rainbow stacker is one I'll get for Ru: www.amazon.co.uk/Bigjigs-Toys-First-Rainbow-Stacker/dp/B00JUQ4S8K

I have also seen this incredibly beautiful music set that is supposedly for 36 months plus, but may find its way into my house a bit earlier: www.preciouslittleone.com/product-information/100/6956/im-toy-melody-mix-kiddy-tune-bench/?gclid=CLqswLK4088CFU6NGwodus8MaA

Sorry you've had an icky day - hope things improve tomorrow.

I don't get why I'm still knackered by 8pm every night even though I'm now getting sleep!

beckslovestimmy · 11/10/2016 20:17

Hi Ella, Effie is beautiful and I love her name.

Not sure about not taking much in the day but Ben had started to be unsettled at night. He was waking at 3am and then really restless until we got up. He had been sleeping 9-7:30. I've been swaddling him and he's gone back to sleeping through again. Not sure if he was cold or just restless and knocking his dummy out.

Maybe she's taking less in the day because of the bottle over night? Or she may be brewing a cold. It can't hurt to run it past the HV.

LOVE the hungry caterpillar set Indians! Looks so cozy too.

Julfin hope the colds bugger off soon. I'm dreading E getting his first cold or illness- i've already got most of Boots baby medicines stashed away so I'm ready for any eventuality.

Hi to Ella and Effie. No clue about the feeding issues but E seems a bit unpredictable with his feeds at the moment. Often falls asleep before having much of his 10pm feed although he's slept through to 7am a few times this week Confused. Perhaps she's going through a developmental change? E has learnt some new skills this week, mainly holding and dropping bits of toys and attempting to roll.

I'm enjoying looking at Xmas gifts and I love the ideas so far, if anyone spots a traditional wooden toy box just give me a shout. After something nice that will look good in the living room and encourage E to be tidy unlike daddy in the future!

AnnaT45 · 12/10/2016 06:33

Hello all and welcome ella and gorgeous Effie!

Grace has just slept for 7 hours! I can't believe it! DD1 who is almost 2 doesn't even do that!! We've had a few good nights of 5/6 hours so this is amazing! Of course I have woken up soaking wet in agony. Those BF getting a good stretch... how long did it take for your body to get used to this? To achieve this I'm feeding pretty much every two hours in the day so it's a big change for the body!

indians those pics are amazing!!!! Oh wow Rome! Love it there! Good luck with the travelling, sure you'll be fine. How long you away for? Ugh I've also been having a little bit of wine too. I've not bought any this week to stop temptation.

ella agree with becks may be a cold brewing but call the HV if you're worried. Still getting plenty of wet nappies?

sunday I like the idea of helping them to be tidy! I need to sort out toy storage as DD1 is 2 at Xmas so will have an influx on toys in one go. Trying to write a list of what she'd like so we don't get a load of things she won't play with.

Those asking about Xmas presents. Whatever you get, hold half back and get them out in a few months so they don't get bored as quick. It's so much ab issue when they're little but as they get older it really helps! Stacking cups are great, as are bath toys. We had a lot of love Rod Campbell books in this house from a young age. They love the flaps!

sunday^ about the ring use I suggested. We have a galt one and got loads of use out it. When they start sitting it supports them and keeps the safe. I used pillows to help prop up. As they get older they love climbing in and out of it too. We got loads of use out of ours, but they're all different so it's hard. I've also never heard of that re bumbo seat but 20 mins is prob more than a baby would tolerate in it anyway! They are great for when you start weaning and also good to take around to houses of people with no kids!

juf re baby ballet, I'm not entirely sure as it was meant to be the first one! I'll find out on Sat and report back. My family is keen on dancing so pushing DD1 into it too, although she doesn't need a push as she loves it already! Def stay put whilst you can. I don't think it's till they're older that you need more room and it's a extra expense when you're not working.

dats is correct. The IKEA high chair is amazing! Don't buy anything else. IKEA also has some lovely bits for kids so worth a trip if you're not near one. My sis is giving us her nieces kitchen for DD1. I'm going to paint it and make it look naice as I'm loser with too much Pinterest time on my hands!

primary nursery is all show. I can't get Grace out of bed let alone into the crib next to me. She's been sleeping on a little cocoonababy next to me though so. At transition that into the crib. She'll still on sleep on me in the day but getting used to that! tams and blue thank you! come move in to the nursery as it needs using Grin

sophie I remember dressing DD1 in this gorgeous outfit and taking her to baby massage. She'd fallen asleep in the car so I took her in the car seat. Everyone admired lovely outfit... I pulled her out in front of everyone showing her off. Then realised she had done a horrendous runny poo and it was all down her. Confused was gutted!!! I think I only had one session of massage that she didn't kick off in! You'll find they all do it though so don't worry. I'm sorry you're not sleeping but be careful with taking anything. It may be your hormones changing after baby? Do you drink much caffeine?

Going to try walk into town today but very bad with diet and exercise last week. Need to get back into it! Booking Spain this week for April and want to feel nice for that so that's my goal!

What a smile Anna! It took me three nights of Ruben sleeping through to not wake up soaking. And even now after a week or so of dry nights, I had a leak this morning! Ruben also has fed more frequently in the day to make up the amount he needs. Fab plan with putting away Christmas gifts. I have already got a bunch of stuff stashed away from gifts when he was born, and tend to give him something different to explore every couple of days at the moment.

sophie the nurse had to stop talking at our post-natal group last week because Ruben was crying so loudly that nobody could hear her! I was frantically digging through layers of clothing to get my boob out for him as fast as poss! Everyone found it very funny...

Indians love the big brother selfies! He is obviously smitten. Have a super time in Rome - how lovely! Hope flights etc go well. I wanted to make a hungry caterpillar set like that for Ruben but as usual ran out of time - it looks brilliant!

DH just made a beautiful oak and cedar toy box with soft-close lid and hemp rope handles for our nephew. He was going to put pictures of it on etsy on the offchance someone might see it and want him to make another. It's quite pricey though - I think he would have to charge around £600 because of the quality of the wood and the time it takes him!

I started Christmas shopping yesterday, inspired by you organised lot! I bought some lovely animal print fabric to make name bunting for my nephew's nursery. I wanted to get him a personalised cutlery set too for his first birthday, which is also in December, but they all say not recommended for under 36 months! Tempted to get a set anyway as a for-the-future gift. I had a set given to me when I was a baby and I still have it! It's in our cutlery drawer and the teaspoon gets used a lot!

Really pleased with what I'm giving my dad too - he decided to list his top 10 films of all time the other day, and I did the same - and he's not seen four or five of my favourites! So I'm going to get the DVDs for him. It's extra nice because then we can chat about them after he's seen them - he does love a chat! Think I'm going to get him some cheesy granddad stuff too, because he's a big softie and I know he would adore it.

Oooo I love Christmas. DH is not going to know what hit him this year. I am going to go all out on decs. I'm normally very restrained but now I have a child I can go nuts! Woohooooooooo!
