What brand of reusables have you got bluebell? We've been using reusables part time and have a few different ones. The best ones we have are called pop ins and have a double elastic bit round the legs. Others we used just have a single leg hole and are more leaky.

Also you could try folding the inner bits and having them thicker at the front as boys tend to pee towards the front of the nappy more. Bamboo inners are supposed to be more absorbent than man-made material but take much longer to dry and smell in my opinion Confused

Hallie's hair is amazing Indians! It looks to be getting more blonde now than strawberry blonde? Might just be the light.

Becks I am shamelessly embracing your excuse about the hips taking longer to slim down Grin

beckslovestimmy · 25/09/2016 20:05

Sunday it's definitely my excuse!!! Mine are doubly wide as I've had 2 kids and Ben was bigger!!! Grin

primarynoodle · 25/09/2016 20:21

indians that is some fab hair! I agree with Sunday it is getting more blonde

becks my hips are enormous now but I quite like it! Was a bit boyish before. I haven't really been one for going out since I was about 18 because I did it all in my teenage years but am gagging for a night out now! A lovely cocktail bar and lots of WineWineWineWine!

birchy Annie didn't like her gro bag at first but has settled with them now - she's just a mental fidget in general though I think!

cookies thanks for the recipe! Is the brewers yeast essential? I have all the other stuff though, looks yummity!

So it's my mums 60th next weekend and I bought a lovely dress from charity shop (originally top shop) for £3 thinking she'd take a bottle by then. But don't think she will! I've decided to attempt to make it a breastfeeding dress by adding a zip underneath the ruffles for a secret boob hole.... if it doesn't work I've only lost £3! I'll attach the before/after so you can either marvel or laugh hysterically at my efforts Grin

primary you're so clever! I really miss wearing dresses when I'm BF. Let us know how it goes?!

indians that hair is just incredible!!! Hallie needs a modelling deal for baby l'orealGrin

Thanksblue I know I'm being hard on myself. My tummy is so flabby though. Going to aim to do two hour daily walks if I can manage it!

juflin no I went to Soho Farmhouse as my friend is a member. They weren't going to let me in with Grace but said I could if she didn't cry. I was then a bit worried. Shouldn't have been! All the other ladies there were besotted with her! Was lovely. Taking her to the hair salon sat, she's learning the beauty maintenance ropes early Smile

cookies well done for going to the gym! I worked out loads before my wedding and was not light on the scales but I was slim and very toned, so don't worry too much about the figure!!

Went shopping in MK today on my own with Grace. Was so bloody busy! I also saw a man in the M&S cafe have a huge slice of cake... Two minutes later a plate of pie and mash turned up!!! I think he's my hero
I've got a crazy week including dietician all for dd1 tomorrow and then Grace has her 8 week jabs on Thursday. I know she'll kick off as she's a bit that way inclined. May have to get myself a lollipop for after lol!

This little muppet just weed and vommed all over my bed.. You can see she's sorry!!

Cookiesandcoffee · 25/09/2016 22:55

indians I just can't cope!! Hallie's hair gets cuter and cuter. I bet her character is just amazing.
anna you are indeed being hard on yourself. You also have to remember the likes of me are 4 weeks ahead of you. Good luck at your appointments - I feel like I constantly have them at the mo. Be prepared for the jabs. I wasn't as my other two were fine after theirs but this time round with the extra ones it was much more tough. Sending moral support! Grace is looking very gorge in that snap!

Hmm primary I have no idea. I did ask my sister who is very sciencey about baking and she didn't know, so I bit the bullet and bought it as I didn't want to waste all the ingredients if I had a disaster. I wish I could
Send you a little amount to try it out! Sorry I'm not much help. I asked the lady in the Health food shop about it and she told me it's really good at balancing out blood sugars so should have some other uses?
You are super clever with that dress!! I miss wearing dresses (especially as I'm still too fat for my pre pregnancy jeans! A dress would be much more flattering !) I bet it's going to look lovely too

Yes becks that's a great excuse. I find hormones make weight cling to my hips- they are my problem area for sure. Female hormones tend to cling onto fat there (I think) so they are often one of the last places we lose it from. I feel you on the feeling old when out! Despite being under 30 I feel ancient when out these days

tams I'm West Country also. Bath would be better for me. London is a bit too expensive and takes a bit too long where I have to fit my day into school hours. Yeovil is also a bit far for me :(

birchy I would head to docs ASAP! Phone first thing and they should see you that day? It's so horrible I really hope it clears up. Mine did quickly with anti biotics . I thought mine had reared its ugly head again but I think I've managed to sleep whatever I had off with a combination of pain killers and pumping. Touch wood

bluebell eek to the cot. It's all too much isn't it. Especially these ruddy hormones. Laughing at your bath time image. Similar story here until I upped the temperature and if I hold onto him more he seems happier (i used to literally just lay dd2 down in shallow water and let her splash away and she loved it!)
No advice with nappies I'm afraid. You're much better than me for trying washables. With regards to stains I'm a Vanish and soak kinda gal. No problems with sick though? I've saved some disastrous poonami explosions as of late

Have been repeating to myself that it's muscle weight. I have lost 16 inches (none from my boobs and 1 from my hips Hmm) Really must get out for walks more though. As I rely on my car for school runs etc I find I don't walk nearly as much as I would like. Did manage some football in the park and a bike ride with my eldest DD this afternoon.

I'm buying my new sling this week Grin. I've decided on a Lillebaby and put my Caboo up for sale. I found a gorgeous little shop with lots of carriers there to try and the shop owner was just so helpful. So much variety from wraps to toddler carriers as well

AnnaT45 · 26/09/2016 02:10

Sorry forgot to say birch take some paracetamol, drink lots of water and use a hot shower to massage your boobs as much as you can. Baths also good (who has the time...) it's horrible how rotten it makes you feel. Hope you feel better soon x

julfin · 26/09/2016 05:43

Cookies - thanks for the cookies! I'm not great in the kitchen department (although I do an excellent brunch) as DH is the chef in this household, but I'd like to turn my hand to some healthy oat-based baking.
I guess for you, the good thing about going back to work is you get fitter! I'd love to be a bit more active in my job rather than sitting at my desk all day. When I'm super senior and important, I intend to have junior staff briefing me while I'm on the cross-trainer or out running. Which I guess means I can only have fit people working for me 😉
Dragging the Moses basket into the hallway sounds like much better parenting than having "grown-up cuddles" in front of the baby!
Yes the muff wax was long overdue - erring into gorilla territory. DH had the good grace not to mention it until after I'd had it waxed. I feel so much better. I had an evening appointment so DH could look after J. Luckily for longer appointments eg my hair it's naturally blond, honest
I didn't actually go to Babyfest in the end. My pregnant friend who I was going with sadly split up with her boyfriend the day before. Poor thing is understandably totally miserable. Five months pregnant, in the middle of buying a house (not with him, luckily), and suddenly single. Not sure if it's irreversible, but anyway, Babyfest wasn't what she fancied doing!
How do you manage to exercise 5 times a week? Is there a crèche at your gym? Or do you have other clever ways of occupying the littlies? You're almost certainly right re building muscle.
What do you use if not a happy nappy?
How thick is the material on your Caboo, and how much are you selling it for?

Cookies and Primary - ha, I can just imagine you sending Brewers yeast in an envelope through the post, and being investigated by the police for suspicious unidentified powder! Seriously though, if you clearly labelled it I'm sure it would be fine.

Primary - wow - I'm so impressed by people that can do clever dress-making stuff. I am highly, yes highly skilled at sewing on buttons... and there my sewing skills end.

Birchy - so sorry to hear about your sleep and boob. Hope things get better for you. They say it takes the bad moments for you to really appreciate the good moments. They are idiots - I'd rather just have the good moments.

Bluebs - I feel that motherhood is teaching me as much about diplomacy and psychology as it is about babies. I know what you mean about having so much more baby experience than DH at this stage. With DH, amazingly though he's doing, I know he's never going to pick up a child-rearing manual. So I try to slip little nuggets of information into conversation in a subtle and light-hearted fashion, as well as letting him see me doing things so he can copy. For example, some of the little games that I play that help jasper to learn patterns. DH is actually quite interested, as long as the information is fed to him in a digestible form.
Great idea about alternating gym sessions with your DH. Sadly DH and I are (or, for me!) gym members at our respective workplaces so that doesn't work for us.
Ha ha re Tams' grippy starfish! What temperature do you have the water. Jasper hated his first few baths, when I had the water lukewarm (because I thought that was best/safest). But now I have the temperature almost as hot as I'd have it for myself, and he absolutely loves baths - it's pretty much his happiest time of day. He also likes bubbles - I use "Infacare".
Sounds like a great plan, for you and DH to both work part-time and to share childcare.

Bluebs and Sunday - Very brave and virtuous of you to try out washable nappies. You're better women than I. Sunday - I chuckled at the idea of "a single leg hole"!

Tams - ha - I now have images of you gallivanting round the world with hordes of children and animals in tow!

Becks - glad you had a fun evening.

Anna - how blissful! I love Oxfordshire. Is that home for you? Jealous.
Cake before pie - brilliant!
Beautiful pic of the remorseless Grace!
I have baths with jasper sometimes, but it's more of a quick splash and scrub - not quite the same as relaxing with candles and a glass of Sauvignon like in the old days!

Jasper has now grown out of the first of his 0-3 outfits 😔 I'm going to milk the rest for all they're worth before moving into the 3-6s.

Can't remember if I said already, but I went to my first baby yoga recently and it was rubbish. Has anyone been to a good baby yoga? If so, what was it like and what did you do? Mine involved more nursery rhymes and less yoga than I'd have liked - annoying, especially when I'd spent 14 squids 😬

Talking of nursery rhymes, has anyone yet been to rhyme time at their local library? I'm planning to go this week. And what other free/cheap activities have people found?

I had a very satisfying few minutes today (well, yesterday now!) with some cotton buds (those little ones on a stick) and jasper's belly button. Very satisfying indeed. Also his armpits, the gaps between his fingers/toes, and the little rolls of fat on his legs. It's amazing how much fluff and unidentified grey stuff (dead skin and coconut oil?) gathers in various places, regardless of baths. And smells a bit yucky. Am pleased to have found a quick and easy way to get rid of it.

Hmm, charming way to end a post!

Bluebell20 · 26/09/2016 10:07

tams thanks for the advice!

sunday we are using second hand smartipants. I have heard really good things about pop ins! We have a few bamboo liners so I've put one of those in this morning to see.

primary I adore the dress mod! Very clever! And reminds me of my aim to work my way through the latest Sewing Bee book. I've lost enough baby weight to make the bias cut top, and that's floaty enough that I could just lift it to feed.

Anna I am loving your lollipop plan... May follow suit for Ru's 12 week jabs! And top work on the shopping trip.

Cookies I forgot you were from round these parts! Shall we organise a meet up in Bath then? Maybe for November? When would suit everyone? Thanks to you and julf for the temperature tip - I shall try upping it.

julf how awful for your friend. I hope things work out for her. Yeah I think in many ways pregnancy and parenthood has been fantastic for my relationship with DH because we have had to be more respectful to one another (we have been together 12 years and it is far easy to be shitty!). Though we still have our moments. Many of them.
I've not tried baby yoga as I was quite disappointed with pregnancy yoga! And oooo I love a satisfying clean. I find that I really enjoy cutting Ruben's fingernails! It's the little things...

Woke up this morning to a sparkly clean kitchen courtesy of DH. V pleasant indeed. And he's on Ruben duty this afternoon! We spent part of yesterday setting up shared calendars on our phones so that we know when we are responsible for the babe. Very technological. (Took fricking ages because we are both stupid, it turns out!)

OP posts:
julfin · 26/09/2016 10:32

Ha ha Bluebs! I now have a shared calendar with my DH, and another one with Granny Fin for Jasper-related activities! It makes a world of difference.

Has anyone else yet set up an email address for their baby? Blush

Bluebs, what are your tactics/technique for nail clipping? What do use and when do you do it? While Ru's sleeping, or feeding?

julfin · 26/09/2016 13:38

Here's jasper in the bath, doing his Startled Rabbit impression 🐰

July 2016 #2
Bluebell20 · 26/09/2016 16:23

Such a cute pic julf! I sometimes think Ru looks like the Dramatic Hamster from YouTube.

I actually do his nails when he is awake and cheerful. It takes ages because he waves his hands about so much that it's hard to focus and makes me feel a bit sick (!) but it is so satisfying. I like a challenge. Plus I'd be worried about waking him up if I did it when he was asleep. I use teeny tin nail clippers.

Afternoon is progressing well. I'm 1000 words in and DH has had a nice trip out with Ruben to b&q!

OP posts:
Bluebell20 · 26/09/2016 19:34

We've hit a new low, people. Really craving chocolate and there is none in the house. Had a spoon of green and blacks hot chocolate powder.

Would recommend.

OP posts:
AnnaT45 · 26/09/2016 22:09

juf gorgeous pic! I miss drinking wine too! I have had one or two glasses but it makes me so shattered!!
Yes I'm Oxfordshire! I love it here too. So many gorgeous places around!
Ha ha to the email address!!

blue my DH loves a hardware store too. He's gone for hours!!! Glad you got some time. Ha ha to the powder! I've had some dark chocolate tonight as wanted some sugar.

So Grace tonight decided to roll over from her back to her front... It was in two stages but in quick succession. She's 7 weeks! Probably a one off but Gutted as can't leave her as easily now! Dd1 rolled over once at 3 weeks. Couldn't believe it! Luckily she didn't repeat again till 3 months. Another active child for me Confused

Cookiesandcoffee · 26/09/2016 22:14

julfin we did rhyme time at the library with dd2. It was good fun, but word got out and it got a bit crazy (think 20 odd pushchairs in a small space) would recommend them though .
Im selling it for £20 + postage cost.. It was too warm for summer as it's 3 layers of fabric :( the layers are thin but I'm a hot person. I'm sad but luckily I didn't buy it new. I bought it for £25 + postage from a sling library group
Ah sad for you about babyfest but totally understandable . Your poor friend. Hope she's ok.
The company I work for do mum and baby classes during the day.. and I do a few evening classes and bring George in his car seat . Perks of my job I guess I sneak him along! It's all women so they love him. DH looks after the others. It's pressure though , obviously just put on by myself, but still.
For swimming I've always used a swim nappy and then just a costume (girls) and never had any problems? They never once pooed though! Hmm
Lucky you having DH as the chef. Well trained!

My baby Pilates is just one you can bring your baby to. When they're asleep in the car seat Im too stingy to pay for them to be part of it Blush

bluebell you guys are NAILING the shared care for Ruebs. Impressive indeed. Not to mention your DHs cleaning skills. Can I borrow him please?! I'm game for a November meet up in Bath. Ideally a Monday for me but I could also do a Wednesday. We need to get you on the Book-of-Face!

Right I've done two exercise classes today and been shopping round Southampton and I'm shattered..

sundaysunday · 27/09/2016 03:50

primary I'm loving the dress hacking- looks great! Also love a good charity shop bargain.

Julf £14 for baby yoga?! London prices eh, wow! Are you thinking of an email address where you will send memories/pictures etc for when jasper is older? I love this idea but I found it hard enough coming up with a baby name let alone an email username too!

Bluebell I had a giggle at you eating hot chocolate powder in desperation! I hunt down leftover dark choc in my baking cupboard when I'm in need. I've had major craving for angel cake the last week- I've resisted the urge but I'm blaming it on post pregnancy hormones Smile

Anna we are also having jabs this week. This afternoon coming are ours so calpol is at the ready.

Been catching up on Strictly today during feeds. E is not a fan and fell asleep during it, much to DH's pleasure! I'm backing Louise Redknapp or Will Young at the moment, mainly because I haven't a clue who most of the others are!

tams13 · 27/09/2016 09:49

I keep reading but not posting. Sorry.

So much exercise going on! I think I need to get off my backside. I don't want to leave M though. I've got mum and baby yoga starting next week (not £14! Makes me glad I moved away from London) but don't think of it as exercise.

I love a bit of fluff clearing too julfin. How do they get so much in there?

Looks like Bath is the most popular choice at the moment. Shall we say a Monday in November? Does anyone know Bath at all?

Bluebell20 · 27/09/2016 10:28

I know Bath tams, I worked there for a few months while I was pregnant. My favourite cafe would be a nightmare with buggies though. Might be better somewhere like Boston Tea Party on Alfred Street? Opposite the assembly rooms I think. (Careful though because there is another smaller BTP in Bath on Kingsmead Square).

sunday I ate my baking chocolate yonks ago!

Cookies I must get on Facebook this week!

Anna I can't get over your children's rolling skills! When is it normal for babies to roll, does anyone know?

OP posts:
dats · 27/09/2016 10:57

Anna crikey that's super-advanced rolling!!! Annoying!!

Bluebell massively varies with rolling, I think. DD rolled at exactly 4 months. Bad mummy was looking at the Sky remote at the time Grin Fortunately, she did it again almost immediately!

primary brilliant dress mod!!! When do you get to try it out?

birchy you poor sausage, did you see your GP? Hope you're feeling better.

sunday I've eaten my baking chocolate too. DP has white chocolate and I don't nick it because it's like eating wax! Curly Wurlies at the way forward. Feel big but aren't, take ages to eat, portion controlled(!)

I'm feeling fed up today. J just cannot seem to feed without getting extreme wind which he can't bring up himself. I'm spending hours exaggeration burping him, then he voms all over me, then he gets upset so I have to calm him down, then there's more wind and by the time we've dealt with that, it's almost time for another feed. I'm finding myself wishing the time away and I don't want to because when he's not hungry and not full of gas, he's adorably smiley and just makes all these noises at me and it's beautiful. I've tried everything I can think of to stop him taking in wind in the first place (good latch, burping mid-feed, upright positions, feeding him before he's frantic) and every rub, pat, rock, hold I can think of and nothing works except repeating all the above in rotation and it's just exhausting. Having tennis elbow makes it all harder. I could stick him in the Ergo and walk around all day and he'd probably be happy but I need to do stuff at home and I can't, with him round my neck. Oh pass the fucking pity party vol-au-vents. Might go and cut the grass using one arm, with him in the carrier. Or maybe I'll just stick my head in the tumble drier and then I can't hear the grunty moaning. Any advice welcome!!! (about wind, not diversionary tactics although maybe...)

dats xxx

primarynoodle · 27/09/2016 15:22

Will reply to everyone properly later but I'm so proud of myself! The dress works!!

Haven't 'tidied it up' yet but here's the almost finished secret stealthy boob hole Grin

MrsRolly · 27/09/2016 20:47

wow primary that is seriously impressive! Looks lovely on too!

Good work on the calendars and book writing blue, sounds like you guys have a great routine underway!!

Dats tennis elbow must be seriously sore and even more annoying when having to deal with two children especially when one is a baby that constantly wants carrying. Can you get to a physio?

Wow Anna amazing skills Grace with the rolling but I have to confess I am still enjoying the safely being able to plonk them down stage although I am starting to get a bit wary of Raff as he isn't too far off I don't think although he is more likely to use his legs to move himself somewhere he shouldn't/catapult himself out of his chair

I have a bit of a conundrum at the moment. We are heading away this weekend as I have mentioned for DD's birthday. I have been expressing milk and have just over 30 oz frozen (which is way to much but DH is completely paranoid about being left with a screaming baby and not enough milk which I totally get) My issue is we plan to leave home Friday stay in the van halfway to London then arrive Saturday but don't need the milk until Sunday evening (poss some during the day) if I defrost the milk Friday I only have 24 hours to use it and my cool bag isn't going to be reliable enough.. am currently looking at freezers for the van that can run of 12v and then be carried into the hotel room (we have gone cheap and cheerful with a travelodge so not sure they will be able to help) I am thinking anything I express from tomorrow I will keep chilled as then it will last for 6 days (I think)
Anyway I am now overthinking this and if anyone can see a sensible milk keeping plan please shout and me and my brain will be very grateful

Also if any London ladies can recommend anywhere good to eat not to far from the west end I would appreciate it. In between the two shows we have a few hours will be for early tea as need to be back for 6.30.

I am way way down in the darks of Cornwall but would try to make a meet up (I love Bath so any excuse - especially if the christmas markets are on!) Please keep me posted and I will make it if I can :)

I am having a glass of wine this evening, it's small but delicious and I begin drinking it very early so I am completely sober for bed time as cannot guarantee Raff will sleep in his sleeping pod and not on me.. the excitement of it all but man Rioja tastes good especially as it feels very autumnal here this week which for me normally marks the beginnings of red wine season!

julfin · 28/09/2016 01:03

Bluebell - don't worry, it's not an all-time low: I've been known to eat spoonfuls of chocolate nesquik when things have got really desperate...

Anna - likewise, jasper rolled over as a one-off a few weeks ago. He hasn't done it since, but it means I can't leave him on all the formerly safe places like the change-mat or our bed. Annoying.

Tams - glad you've been enjoying the fluff-clearing too! So satisfying!

Tams/Sunday - yes £14 is absurd. I won't be going back!

Sunday - Re email, no it was just to ensure that he's able to have an email address with his name and without a bunch of random numbers in it. I figured that whatever was available now might not be available a decade or so down the line. Good idea re the photos/memories! I feel bad that i haven't even been keeping a note of when he did things eg first smile. I'd (unrealistically!) intended to write a weekly diary of what we'd done, but in those first few weeks it was as much as I could do just to feed him. I've got shedloads of photos though, so that's ok. I wish i had more videos eg of his gorgeous little sneezes, waking-up face, giggles etc.
I once bumped into Will Young in my local pub. He was wearing a silly hat. That, my friends, is the extent of my anecdote. It's the way you tell 'em 😄

Cookies - my Caboo is really hot too. I think it's a model from around 2011 when they used thicker material. I've now been leant a wrap sling which is much thinner - will try it out soon but I suspect I'll struggle without the pre-made elements.
Your baby Pilates sounds much more sensible. It annoyed me that at my yoga class we didn't really do anything that I'd consider to be "exercise". Really what I want to be doing is 5 mile runs and some weights, so a few gentle little stretches and singing "Hello lovely babies, how are you?" umpteen times didn't really cut it...

Dats - I'm sorry you're having such difficulties with J's wind. I can't really help, I'm afraid. Jasper did suffer badly from wind but it's got better now.

Primary - wow, you clever girl!

Rolly - I'd recommend Sarastro: www.sarastro-restaurant.com

This morning due to unfortunate timing, I ended up breastfeeding on the train. Far from ideal, but actually people around me either didn't notice or politely studied their phones/books intensely. (One woman seemed to be scowling at me, but actually I think she just naturally had a face like a pig's arse.) Anyway, although I would never choose to feed in that situation, I was quite pleased with myself for just getting on with it confidently, and for being able to do it so discreetly/successfully. It means I can now chill out more and get on with my day without worry so much about timings of feeds.

Does anyone else find their tea is always getting abandoned and going cold? To solve this problem, I've bought a thermos mug. So now I can make a cup in the morning, and just drink it at leisure as and when it's convenient, without it having gone cold. I'm delighted! It's so nice to be able to have a decent hot cup of tea.

Who's done baby massage classes? I'm sure a couple of you said you had. What exactly does it involve?

Re expressing - a question for those of you who put the milk in bags for freezing it. Do they have to be special bags designed for storing breast milk? Or could I just use ordinary freezer bags?

tams13 · 28/09/2016 10:30

Is that walkable from the station bluebell? Sorry for all the questions. I feel like a bit of a numpty but have suggested a meet up somewhere that sounded convenient but I know nothing about! Oops.

Loving the sewing skills primary. Amazing idea too!

dats fab skills by the little man. Afraid I don't have any gas suggestions other than what you're doing or a bit of leg wiggling and pushing knees towards the tummy (his knees and tummy, not yours).

Go julfin! Are you feeling a bit more confident about going out now?

Milk coma baby this morning, post longest ever sleep last night - 11.30pm to 6.30am!!

A Monday in November in Bath is good for me - can't do 21st, but all others are good for me. The Christmas market starts on November 24th.

Well done julfin, you'll be getting those babs out everywhere now Wink

dats I didn't realise rolling that early was possible! Wind issues not good, somebody (sock, maybe?) suggested lying them down for 2 mins after feeding, then putting over shoulder and this seems to work burping wonders here when nothing else succeeds. What's in the canapés? No doubt they're stone cold too, eh? Joking aside, it all sounds a bit draining x

primary it looks fab Smile

bluebell I had to cave and buy real chocolate after digging out the cooking stuff - gave done to DH and he gave me one of those 'seriously, is this what we've come to?' looks.

Anyone got any ideas what I can buy to eat with bake off tonight? Floral theme! Considered baking rose water cupcakes, but can't be arsed haven't got the time...
