So many August bus babies have arrived already! Anyone else fancy a chat during night feeds or wondering what to make of the contents of tiny nappies? Might as well get comfortable...

DD will nap in her Snuzpod or in the carrycot part of her pram. If she falls asleep in the car then I just bring the car seat inside. It's a bit easier for us because we're in an upper villa so all on one level once you're up. So I am less fussed about her being in the same room because I can hear her easily. If I'm pootling around then I usually leave the Snuzpod or pram in the hall so I am only ever one room away. Not really aware of a nap pattern developing yet, other than a whopper morning nap that is almost an extension of night time for her.
Can't remember when DS sorted himself into a pattern. But his napping was dreadful unless marched around in the pram for hrs each day so I think I just blocked it all from memory!!

peardrop2 · 24/09/2016 23:41

Depending on DD's mood she naps in the Caboo close sling in the morning from breakfast time and then I put her to nap upstairs in the babybay bed attached to our bed for her 12-2 nap with the baby monitor on so I can keep an eye on her movement and sound. This is helpful as then I can sort out lunch and give DS some alone time. When I had DS I would never ever let him out my sight but now I have to be more relaxed because if I let her sleep downstairs in the stokke daybed he just wakes her up. He thinks it's a game Hmm and his tantrums are terrible at the moment so he's often slamming a door, crying on the naughty step, throwing a toy and just generally being a loud 3 year old Confused

I'm so glad I stayed at home with them both today and survived without too much mess! I feel like I've achieved stuff like a wash and the online shop tonight which took forever but I got there in the end. I have even prepped my first dish for the slow cooker tomorrow.

Now it's time to swaddle and hopefully get some sleep!!

BellaGoth · 25/09/2016 02:23

DD pretty much sleeps wherever she has to - in the sling, carrycot, on me, and yesterday on her playmat on the floor (not recommended - quite hard work with a 3 year old and two large dogs stomping around! This is heaven to me as DS was a nightmare for sleep!

My dad came over yesterday to summon invite us out to a fancy restaurant for a meal next week to celebrate my step mum's birthday. I said it would be lovely but just not feasible with a 3 YO and ebf 7 week old. My dad is not impressed! Seriously would others manage this? The reservation is for 8pm, my 3YO would be exhausted. It would also mean I'd miss my chunk of sleep as DD tends to reliably sleep from 9-2. I offered up DH as a sacrifice but this is apparently not good enough... Hmm

peardrop2 · 25/09/2016 03:10

Omg Bella! No!! No way would my 3 year old son cope. He's just about passable at 7 Iclock at Pizza Express but that really is pushing it. IMO kids should be in bed and not eating at fancy restaurants at 8 Shock

BellaGoth · 25/09/2016 05:10

Glad it's not just me! My dad has a way of coming up with bonkers ideas and making me feel unreasonable when I don't go along with it. There was one memorable occasion where we had a huge argument because I didn't invite his girlfriend's ex husband to my wedding...

DD has slept from 9-2 then 3-5. I can cope with that!

Slothlikesundays · 25/09/2016 06:06

No way would I be going to that meal bella. How stressful would that be!
During the day dd either naps in the sling or in the rocker which she absolutely loves.
Feeling elated as she slept 9-12 and then 12.50-5.30 and has settled straight off again. Grin. Gaviscon is definitely working, and she's in a grobag which she seems to like. Long may this last.

Biscuitswithtea · 25/09/2016 06:55

Absolutely no way could we do that meal Bella. DD might sleep but DS, age 3, would be a total nightmare. He would be over tired and would have had to eat before then anyway so would be utterly bored and grumpy.
Not to mention I tend to go to bed early also this now!

Biscuitswithtea · 25/09/2016 07:01

Glad things are on the up Sloth. Grobags are brilliant :) As are, for the chilly handed babies, foldover cuffs on sleepsuits.

So we're off to the Lake District tomorrow for a few days at Center Parcs. Booked it before I got ill but I think it will be fine. Admittedly it will be gentler and slower but that's okay. Doctor knows we're going and said 'fine, so long as you find a local surgery if you feel things are getting worse again' Which is fair enough. In the meantime ALL the packing is obscene!

Sophia1984 · 25/09/2016 07:35

DS went to sleep on a bouncy seat for the first time yesterday (rocked by granny) - I think I'm sometimes too quick to assume he needs my arms and he will settle if I leave him a tiny bit longer. During day he sleeps on me or on a little blanket bed on the floor. Had been using Moses basket but he has already outgrown it! Slept about an hour in travel cot last night but 4 blissful hours next to me in bed- there's a reason babies have been cosleeping for millennia I guess.. He's loving his baby sleeping bag too. Grobags have a sale on right now if anyone needs some.

Have a lovely holiday Biscuits - you deserve it!

Daytona79 · 25/09/2016 08:58

Yeah my issue is two year old constantly waking him up every time he falls asleep so I'm contemplating popping him in his crib upstairs , I have a video monitor and a Angel care pad too but it still worrying me him being alone so not sure if I'm brace enough to do it, but feel bad that poor baby constantly woken up Sad

rumisyum · 25/09/2016 21:32

Hello ladies! Sorry been MIA for so long. Life has been busy with the 2 little ones & a bunch of grandparents to shepherd around.

Bella, your dad is being totally unreasonable to expect a 3yo & newborn (& their tired mum!) to manage that. I'd tell him you can make a lunch...

Daytona, my eldest is 20 months, so I can't put my DD down & expect her to be left alone to nap. She mostly naps on an adult, or in her bassinet when DS is at the childminder.

Right, I came to catch up, but I think DD has finished her cluster feed for tonight, so I think I need to join her asleep.

If anyone has a sleepyhead. Do you think it's too late for me to buy the newborn version? I think DD is now 8lb something. Swaddling has helped a lot these past few nights. I understand from reviews that the sleepyhead is just as good as swaddling. What you think?

peardrop2 · 26/09/2016 03:40

Biscuits just trying your idea...using the mitten flap on the sleepsuits. Why haven't I tried this before?!!!? Enjoy your break! We've booked a similar trip for December. I hope the change of environment will just help you in general. Best thing about Centre Parcs is it knocks your children out Smile

Daytona79 · 26/09/2016 04:25

Peaedrop it lasts till 8 months the large version I have and it's massive so no way would any of our lot fit in it for a good while yet so I'd buy the smaller one or purflow which way cheaper and pretty much the same thing

PurFlo Breathable Baby Nest - Soft Truffle www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00UIZIVEY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Etj6xbJV965XP

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 26/09/2016 04:34

pear I bought a sleepyhead this week and my DD is massive, well over 12lb now. So far because she still cluster feeds it hasn't helped her go down any earlier but once she goes down she stays there for nearly four hours. I've had my bed back the past couple of nights! Plus the end does open out so their feet can hang out the end.

daytona DD is not great at napping so wherever she fell asleep I leave her, usually on me.

rum nice to hear from you, wondered where you had got to.

biscuits hopefully the fresh air will help! Enjoy!

bella I agree with the others - maybe suggest lunch.

sloth excellent sleep! Hope it wasn't just a one off?

sophia thsnks for the grobag sale tip I will have a look.

lizziebell · 26/09/2016 04:40

Hi,
I'm new to MN and this thread. I had an August baby. Arrived on 17th, 6/52 early. He is home and doing well apart from now has silent reflux. It's horrible to see him in pain and not be able to do anything about it. Waiting for medications to start working soon hopedull

Biscuitswithtea · 26/09/2016 06:24

Hello Lizzie :) Reflux is horrid and tiring. Hope you see an improvement soon.

We fashioned a sleepyhead arrangement out of two blankets rolled into sausages and a giant muslin draped over the whole thing. It seems to work fine. That said, I've only heard good things about a sleepyhead. We were just feeling thrifty/wanted to try before splashing out. DD used to love being swaddled too.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 26/09/2016 08:49

It is a ridiculous price isn't it biscuits I tried with towels but it didn't wish, also tried tidied one second hand. DH is less than holy with the amount I've spent but I feel I can't put a price on some sleep!

peardrop2 · 26/09/2016 08:56

Thanks ladies. I have brought one this morning. I kind of just need to try everything. I don't think it would have helped us last night though as I think she has a cold like DS. Not surprising considering he's been rubbing his face in hers Angry She only

peardrop2 · 26/09/2016 08:56

She only slept 4:30-6:30 again Sad

BellaGoth · 26/09/2016 10:19

Oh Pear you must be exhausted. Can anyone help out today so you can sleep?

peardrop2 · 26/09/2016 11:24

Unfortunately Bella I've got a hospital appt at 2 o'clock so I can't even hide in bed with DS at nursery Sad

peardrop2 · 26/09/2016 11:25

It's to discuss my 3rd degree tear. Not that I have anything to say and they will probably want to have a look Blush Hate this part of having a baby!

peardrop2 · 26/09/2016 12:35

Have just managed to have 30 minutes power nap. I will now soldier on Wink

peardrop2 · 27/09/2016 02:53

So after a few nights of only 2hrs in total of sleep. DD suddenly goes and sleeps in my bed on her tummy from 9:45-2:45am Shock There is just no way of telling with this one!! She seems to do a few nights of no sleep and then bamn suddenly becomes a good skeeper luring me into false pretences!

Liz sorry I forgot to say welcome! I'm sorry to hear your lo has reflux too. It is so so hard. Very few understand which makes it even more challenging at times Sad
