So many August bus babies have arrived already! Anyone else fancy a chat during night feeds or wondering what to make of the contents of tiny nappies? Might as well get comfortable...

Oh Plimsolls Massive hugs. Flowers
I hope you get some answers today. It must be impossible to switch your mind off for a moment :( There is little sadder than feeling unable to comfort your distressed baby. But a- your DD will still recognise you, even if she can't breastfeed this now and b- she won't remember this horrible time once it's over.
Thinking of you both xxx

Sorry to hear that plimsolls. From what I remember from my paeds block (long ago) if it is pyloric stenosis it's a very quick and straight forward operation to fix. Thinking of you x

plimsolls · 19/09/2016 13:11

Thanks guys. Looks like she'll have the op later today.

I feel a little better as she's been soothed/comforted by me holding and cuddling her. I guess she still knows her mummy after all.

Slothlikesundays · 19/09/2016 18:25

Hope the op went well plimsolls

plimsolls · 19/09/2016 20:42

Thank you. So far so good. Surgeon said they were pleased and she seems to be recovering alright. So relieved.

LotsOfDots · 19/09/2016 21:04

Glad all went well plimsolls x

BellaGoth · 20/09/2016 09:50

Hope you managed to get some rest overnight Plimsolls and all is going well today.

After nearly 6 weeks of lovely behaviour from my 3 year old, yesterday he decided that he didn't want DD to sleep and spent all afternoon doing everything in his power to wake her up. By bedtime DD was screaming with exhaustion, I was somewhat bad tempered and DS was sulking because I wouldn't let him play with the pillow DD had just been sick on! Kids, eh?

Laineypopps · 20/09/2016 10:46

Glad all went well plimsolls, hope the recovery is quick and that the op makes a huge difference.

bella we had a day of it with our 5 yr old yesterday. Massive tantrum and just being horrible. Totally out of. Garacter for him and very wearing!! They are sent to try us at times!!

Hope everyone else is doing well, just going to catch up on posts now. We have had a busy busy few days and hubby is working so I'm trying hard to juggle everything. Didn't help that HV was meant to turn up this morning and called to reschedule grrr!! And it's a different one than I had last visit which I am not too happy about. They are worse than useless to be honest. Anyone had positive interactions with their HV? I just find the are here for tea, a biscuit and to waste time. When DS #2 was 11 days old the HV visit lasted over 2 hours!!!! No concerns, just very drawn out!

I'm still having pain on my right side when feeding and my nip has gone a bit white at the tip. Any ideas? Latch is good and no hot or red lumps.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 20/09/2016 11:56

Been thinking of you plimsolls. Glad the op went well, hope last night was ok. Never doubt your baby girl knows and loves her mummy - you're her favourite person, whether you're feeding her or not. Flowers
Lainey could it be a touch of thrush maybe? Is there any white stuff in baby's mouth?
Agree re HV - mine is a student (think they're really understaffed here) and lovely but useless. Presumably they come into their own a bit more if there are problems/safeguarding concerns, but I'm not convinced tbh.
Bella hope your DS is having a better day today! DD also super grumpy at the mo, not fun.

Been a bit quiet on here, DD started full days at school yesterday so I've been trying to stay organised and on top of things - don't want to let her down by being the mummy who's always late, forgetting stuff etc (am naturally horribly unorganised but trying hard not to be!). 2 days down, 1000 or so to go Grin She was a bit weepy when I dropped her off this morning and didn't want me to leave her - think it's just cos she's so tired, but of course it made me want to gather her up and run straight back home with her!
DS has helpfully decided to start a new habit of waking for a feed at half 3 and then refusing to go back to sleep. Not good timing. Hoping it doesn't last long! He had his jabs this morning, howled a bit but settled down in no time. Glad they're over with, for now at least.
Am mourning the end of summer - it's so grim and wet here, it's hard to believe this time last week was baking hot!

Biscuitswithtea · 21/09/2016 09:52

So I am mystified by guidance on babies and room temperature etc. DD was in a long-sleeved vest, sleepsuit and under a doubled-over blanket last night. The house was 18.5 degrees (if our central heating thermostat is to be believed). She was cold. She was fine until she woke c2ish for a feed, and then she only wanted to be held to stay cosy. I put the heating on this am for a short blast to get us up to 20 degrees and she has slept for nearly 2hrs in her crib (in the same arrangement). I expect that totally flies in the face of SIDS guidance. But not sure what else we can do!
Must dig out our sleeping bags though - she's almost certainly too little at the moment but soonish perhaps they will fit.

Sophia1984 · 21/09/2016 11:32

Vest, sleep suit, sheet and 2 blankets is what Grobag advise for up to 20 so I think you're fine. Even above that they advise same clothing plus sheet and one blanket. DS is a little radiator and just liked sleeping in his sleep suit- he kicks blankets off.

LotsOfDots · 21/09/2016 12:33

What does she weigh now biscuits? Grobag do really small ones now which can be used as swaddles first, then grobag. DS is almost too big for his now - he's 11 lb 3 oz.

Biscuitswithtea · 21/09/2016 13:03

Oh okay. So I'm not cooking her then :)
She's a bit less than 11lbs so perhaps there are some sleeping bags that would fit her. For once this is where having a proportionally bigger head might be to her advantage!

Laineypopps · 21/09/2016 14:20

Ruaridh is 10lb 12 at 4 weeks and we have him in a vest sleepsuit and grobag (0-6m) There are wee extra poppers under the arms for when they are small. Think they are ok from 7lb.xxxx

Laineypopps · 21/09/2016 14:20

Ha! Sorry,did the unmumsnetty kisses!!!

Slothlikesundays · 21/09/2016 14:38

Argh this is a minefield. I've been putting dd in vest and sleeps suit with one cellular blanket over. Do you think this isn't enough? I think I'm so worried about her over heating I may have gone the other way Confused

Biscuitswithtea · 21/09/2016 14:46

Sloth does she seem chilly? If not then am sure you're fine. Up until last night DD has been fine. Last night was def cooler here and she had chilly hands and her face and neck were quite chilly too. She clearly wants to be in a warmer climate ;) like her mother

plimsolls · 21/09/2016 14:47

I veer between thinking she's overdressed and underdressed. No clue. I just try touching her chest to see if it feels a normal temperature but it's hard at night when I want to sleep.

Sophia1984 · 21/09/2016 15:53

Sloth That's what I've been doing and baby seems happy. Health visitor or midwife told me that they would cry if they were cold but if they were too hot they would 'shut down' so is much more dangerous to overdress them.

Slothlikesundays · 21/09/2016 16:21

Thanks for your reassurances! Went down to Argos and bought a gro egg. Think maybe I (and her!) will sleep better now. She's big enough for a grobag now so going to follow their instructions. This mothering thing is just winging it really...with occasional panics Grin. Going to treat myself to a wine at the weekend to celebrate managing to do it for a month!

Kstar8 · 21/09/2016 16:42

I'm crawling out of the woodwork (lurking but never manage to post)....

Sloth I hate to throw more uncertainty into the ring but we bought a Gro Egg pre birth and were very stressed at it glowing red with an unhappy face every day and showings reading that never fell under 24C.
One night we realised we were both cold and needed the duvet back on but the Gro egg still showed about 24C. We've checked and it seems to a temperature of about 4-5C over room temperature all the time.
If you read the one star Amazon reviews there are loads confirming this. Whether it's a fault with some units rather than all I don't know.
We are going to take ours back to John Lewis and complain. When it comes to cold temp readings it actually dangerous and if it's saying 5C over! Very disappointed.

I agree that last night (London) was cooler than its been in ages. I got worried at 5am and put another blanket on my baby girl.

peardrop2 · 21/09/2016 17:04

Feeling a little Blush that I haven't paid much attention to temperature second time round! Hello everyone Smile

Kstar8 · 21/09/2016 17:10

I'm sure you are paying enough attention pear, you are just free of the first time parent neurotic fears! I think that's who the Gro egg is aimed at, people like me.
After weeks of worrying about boiling the baby, I realise now a lot of it is common sense and instinct. Which I was worried I wouldn't have!

peardrop2 · 21/09/2016 21:38

Aww thanks Kstar. I know exactly how you feel though. If you came to my house you would find at least 4 different bath thermometers stuffed at the back of the draw Wink I really wish I could have told my first time mum self that my elbow also is a fantastic thermometer Grin and is free!

All is well here. 7 weeks today and I feel far more in control and relaxed...phew! DS has been an absolute nightmare this week and I really was beginning to wonder until he woke up with a cold this morning and now it all makes sense Smile Since a baby he has always been the worst behaved monster before a cold. Makes me smile that it continues. It's just been so long since he last had a cold that I had forgotten what this monster looked like Grin DD is doing really well despite her silent reflux. She's started to bring up a lot of milk but I realised today that it is probably because I haven't been on top of her medication so I need to tighten up on that. My new mummy bag arrived today which I am totally in love with. It has a key clip (this alone will save me hours searching for my keys in the bag) and a pouch to specifically put my wipes in. I love it. Oh and I also ate a lot of Victoria sponge today which was amazing (in the corner of the kitchen with my back to my son so he couldn't see what mummy was indulging on) CakeSmile

Plimsols omg you poor thing! Ah I just can't believe you've had to go through such a traumatic time with your DD! How are things now? Have you been able to feed after the op? TG they picked up on it and saw to her quickly. That must be some relief and of coarse that it is now over with! FlowersChocolate
