rhu DS goes to bed at 6 (sometimes even 5.30!!!) and doesn't wake til 6.30/7 (well he feeds during the night, but is not 'up' for the day til then).

I've read that conversely if bedtime is late then wake time can be too early.

Me624 · 26/07/2016 17:11

Maybe I just lost my rag with DS too 😢 He has been very slightly less annoying today than he was yesterday but after two full days of him moaning virtually the entire time I had had enough and DH got home to find me in tears having dumped DS in his bouncy chair and left the room because I was getting so cross with him. I feel so awful now! It's not his fault bless him. DH has taken him out for a walk so I get a bit of peace.

A very small silver lining is that our Sophie the giraffe arrived and he does seem to like chewing on it so that's something at least.

Rhu DS doesn't seem interested in grabbing at the food on my plate at all! He does seem to be staring at me more though when I'm eating, did J start with that before progressing to grabbing?

RhubarbAndMustard · 26/07/2016 18:04

Oh Me, sounds tough. Everyone needs a break though so don't beat yourself up. I pass J across to DP as soon as he gets in sometimes just to have 5 mins on my own.

Yes, J has been staring at us eating for a while now. It's like he begrudges us every mouthful.

Maybebabybee · 26/07/2016 18:45

Sorry to hear that me but I'm totally with you today - just had to rock DS to sleep in the pram again. What can I do when neither neurofen or calpol seem to help much?! Nor does bloody Sophie. Someone at my postnatal group said to freeze breast milk in lolly moulds and give him those to suck so I'm getting on that tonight!!

DS hasn't tried to grab food either, nor does he seem that interested in watching me eat. He does stare at me when I eat, but he stares at me most of the time.

Swearwolf · 26/07/2016 20:36

We've had a couple of tricky days too, I've bought a new Sophie too and she's really got the hang of it today. This evening was awful but she went down at half 7 for the first time, bedtime synchronisation with ds! I managed to cook dinner and everything!

S has been loving watching me eat since she was born, I figured it was because she wanted me fat and milky. I am in no hurry to wean and want to wait as long as possible, it's fun but it's a lot of extra cleaning up and food prep, billions of tiny plastic tubs knocking around etc. We did a lot of finger food and just giving ds what we were eating, but I still had to separate stuff out or cook something else if we were getting chips etc.

TheMshipIsBack · 26/07/2016 21:02

rhu I'm going to try a little carrot puree tomorrow, just to test T's tongue thrust. If she's not ready I'll give it another couple of weeks before trying again. She's 20 weeks and I think DS was about 24 when he was ready. T is very close to sitting independently, similar to DS at the same age, and is happily joining us at meal times in her booster seat (thanks to Dom for the recommendation, it's exactly what we needed).

Congrats on the synchronized bedtime swear!! I messed up T today by letting her fall asleep accidentally at 5:30. She was in the sling while I played with DS after his tea and didn't notice! I should have woken her - she napped 45 minutes and her bedtime routine was screwed. Finally got her soundly asleep about 8.

Timetogrowup2016 · 27/07/2016 07:12

The last few days I have given Calais
Sweet potato purée and
Banana purée
She is 23 weeks today and isn't pushing the food out now. In fact she gets so excited when she sees the spoon now...

RhubarbAndMustard · 27/07/2016 07:40

That's really exciting Time. I'm really looking forward to weaning again. I loved making up all the puree's and freezing them up for DS1. I think I'm going to see how he is for a bit longer though. He's 21 weeks tomorrow/ 5 months next week. Mship let us know how you get on.

Swearwolf · 27/07/2016 07:45

Urrrrrrrrgh, as I suspected, 7.30 baby bedtime led to lots of wake ups last night Sad

Me624 · 27/07/2016 07:48

Thanks for the support yesterday ladies. I felt much better just for having 20 minutes to myself while DH took him for a walk. Then gave him loads of cuddles when they got back! This morning he was up at 5am and wouldn't resettle after his bottle so I brought him into bed with us and he went straight to sleep cuddled up into my side.
I went back to sleep too and we've only just woken up, lovely Smile

That's great that Calais likes her food Time! I'm going to a weaning talk tomorrow run by the local children's centre but like Rhu planning to wait a few more weeks. DS loves sitting in his high chair though (with a big cushion for support) and I bought some weaning spoons the other day. I'm quite looking forward to it in some ways but not in others - will become more difficult to leave the house for the day when I have to think not just about bottles but also pots of food!

Maybebabybee · 27/07/2016 08:15

I'll also be waiting til 6 months...DS is 19 weeks today and doesn't seem very interested in food so no need to start earlier. He can't sit up or anything yet either. When are babies meant to sit up on their own?

He's got his 16 week jabs today (3 weeks late!). Really dreading it.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 27/07/2016 08:35

Sitting up independently varies from baby to baby maybe. Dd1 was sitting at 5 months unaided but she hit a lot of the physical milestones early (walking at 10 months), whereas dd2 seems a lot slower (not rolling yet at 19 weeks) so i expect her to sit a lot later - some babies still can't sit unaided at 6 months.

Im waiting till 6 months to wean and going straight onto finger foods/ blw. Really can't be arsed with purees and I'm happy with the convenience of just having boob for feeding when we're out, requires no thougth!

Went out for tapas and wine last night with some of my mum friends i met at pregnancy yoga, was lovely to be out and wearing a pre pregnancy dress which i was amazed to find i fit in even with my ginormous boobs and horrific tummy. Dd2 apparently woke ten mins before i got home but dh settled her, she then woke up again wanting boob so was obviously hungry. Not too bad a night though as she only had the two wakes at 10 and 5 so there's been definite improvement!

We're off on holiday today, getting a taxi to Heathrow at 12 and we're nowhere near packed Confused am currently trying and failing to get dd2 to nap, which means im not helping with packing and we also can't pack anything that's in our room. I think its going to be a panicked rush to get everything done on time today...

DomesticAnarchist · 27/07/2016 08:38

Glad it was a good suggestion, TheM! She's 20 weeks already?! Shock Where is the time going?!

Oh no, Swear.

Well done on the lie-in Me. We did similar - DS seemed chilly this morning (though happy) so I snuggled him in and we both got more sleep!

Sitting is a 6 month milestone, I think, maybe. DS2 is only 16 weeks but is desperate to sit up. But he does as someone described up thread and basically folds in half at the middle before puking on himself.

My plan with DS1 went well till 3pm as predicted when he did his Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde moment and turned into a complete horror for the evening. He mucked around so much at bedtime it's him not having enough sleep and so the cycle is perpetuated.

He's becoming so rude and sneaky I don't know what to do with him.

DS2 also wouldn't have a nap after 3pm yesterday until the exact moment I decided I better give him a bath before bed. So then he was overtired and took hours to go to sleep too. Whoops.

I might try the baby walker and/or door bouncer today...

Timetogrowup2016 · 27/07/2016 09:42

Swear- hope you get some good naps in today and can take it as easy as possible.
Maybe- good luck with the jabs. Poor boy on top of his teeth as well.
Marmite- hope your holiday is good and you get packed up on time
Me- sometimes a bit of you time is needed. My oh is taking c to see his brother, mum and sister on Saturday afternoon for a few hours. Normally I would go to but his told me to stay at home and have a bit of time away from the baby.

C woke at 12,2,5 and then up at 6:30.
Each wake up takes 30-45 minutes still though...

Can't be bothered today. I have showered but put my pjs back on which she has spat up all over... Need to go the shops later though.

Also re day time naps c will only nap in her swing chair/car seat during the day. Obviously I feel to scared to nap with her in their in case something happens. But she's safe in her car seat right? She's strapped in correctly but I worry about her head flopping forward ( I've read horror stories ) so am to scared to nap when she does...
She does fine in the cot at night but will not entertain it during the day.
Would you nap with your babies in the car seat?

Me624 · 27/07/2016 09:54

Time I think the danger of their heads flopping forward is more when they're smaller and can't hold it up themselves and then their airway gets restricted. As long as C can hold her head up well which I imagine she can by now then I don't think there's a significant risk. DS falls asleep in his car seat on almost every journey and I've found his head tends to flop to the side against the side of the seat rather than forward. I'm happy enough to leave him like that while I get on with things. Nap on the sofa in the same room as her and she'll be fine.

FS84 · 27/07/2016 10:26

Thank you for the helpful suggestions re bedtime. Once we get back from holiday I'm going to focus on getting DS into a good bedtime routine and into bed earlier. I've ordered one of those elephant slumber buddies, maybe that will be a miracle cure?! :D

Good news re lack of screaming in the buggy Mship!

Q please give me some tips on how to get them to nap for 1.5 hours! How many weeks is your DS?

Feel for you maybe and me :( the screaming gets to the point of being unbearable. Just wish we could help them!

Hope you have a great holiday marmite. I suspect our packing will be equally as last minute.

That sucks swear. Fingers crossed for good naps today!

We're waiting till 6 months and gonna do blw. 7 weeks today. I'm excited but also know the novelty will soon wear off, so I'm in no rush. DS is 19 weeks and not rolling yet, so it could be he's not even ready for blw at 6 months if he is late sitting unaided too.

QforCucumber · 27/07/2016 10:39

me good luck with the puree!
fs I wish I knew, up until yesterday we struggled with 30 mins. He was 18 weeks on saturday. To be fair though usually when he wakes at 6 I still just lay in bed with him quiet next to me whereas yesterday I got up with him and played for a little bit, then as soon as his head flopped forwards I laid him down with dummy and white noise stroking his cheek. Kept thinking he would wake up any minute though. Did the same today, up properly at 6, fed changed and played then he napped 7:15-8:30. I think I wasnt making him wake up properly from that first wake up as I wanted to stay in bed haha.

Highchair arrived today - he seems quite pleased with it. Won't be weaning for another 6 or so weeks but I've been wanting this chair since I was pregnant and it keeps being out of stock so got it while I could (10% off also helped)

March 2016 - I can't think of a pithy title because I'm too sleep deprived :/
TheMshipIsBack · 27/07/2016 15:45

Ah Q that's a lovely chair and a happy baby! I think that's the same one (different seat pattern) that was at the grandparents' house when DS was little.

T was thrilled with trying the puree but still has some tongue thrust so we'll wait a week and try again. It's too messy and she probably isn't physically ready until that's gone. She was licking the spoon, smiling, and trying to pull it into her mouth, so it won't be long.

Trinpy · 27/07/2016 15:46

How did day 1 of weaning go MShip*?

Glad things are better today Me.

Hope everything goes OK with the jabs today Maybe. Ds1 didn't sit up unaided until around 6.5 months but I know some babies who did it as early as 5 mo and others who were 7 months+.

Have a lovely time away marmite. I'm not jealous, oh no...

Time I think it would be fine to have a quick nap while she's asleep in the car seat. I think it's quite hard for their heads to flop forwards in those infant carriers anyway.

We're in the middle of teething hell here. Ds2 kept waking up in the night screaming. I only semi woke up each time though so rather than do the sensible thing and give him calpol my brain could only think as far as 'offer boob. Boob no work. Dummy? Ah dummy work'. So we both continued to be woken up every 15-30 mins throughout the night Hmm.

Trinpy · 27/07/2016 15:48

X post MShip. Sounds like the puree will go down well once her tongue thrust is gone Smile.

FS84 · 27/07/2016 16:34

Sat in McDonald's car park with a sleeping DS. Before this he'd had a total of 1 hour in naps today. Tried from around half 2 to get him to sleep and ended up with him screaming in my arms for an hour Sad I just could not console him.

Maybebabybee · 27/07/2016 18:07

Well the jabs were awful. Poor DS was hysterical, couldn't breathe he was crying so much. He did calm down and I managed to get him down for bed quite easily but I'm on alert for him to wake up unhappy.

Sorry to hear that fs. I've had days like that with DS and have been in tears with frustration. CakeBrewChocolate for you.

trin sympathies on teething, I'm with you!!!

Me624 · 27/07/2016 19:52

Your poor DS, maybe. At least that's the jabs over and done with now until they're 1!

DS has been much happier today which has been a relief after two really difficult days. He still had a few moany times but compared to the last two days he was a different baby. Fingers crossed it continues. We're seeing family this weekend who have come up to stay from 5 hours away and have only met DS once before when he was teeny and I want them to see happy, giggly gorgeous DS not moany irritable whiny DS!

DomesticAnarchist · 27/07/2016 22:38

Screamy McScreamerson here tonight.

He went to bed pretty well initially. Then I sat in with DS1 to make sure he stayed in bed and went to sleep. Then DH and I started trying to pack (we're going away tomorrow). DH decided to put a light on and talk loudly so obviously DS2 woke up and has been a screaming writhing mess ever since.

He does drop off, on me, but then starts up all over again when I try to put him down.

All I can think about is how much shit I've got to sort out before I can go to bed. But I can't. Because I've got to hold the banshee baby.

And I'm hungry. Which isn't helping.

Dottydoodoo · 27/07/2016 23:44

FS, I feel your pain. I have had two very similar sounding days with my DS. I very nearly burst into tears in the middle of the town.

Maybe, I'm sorry the jabs were so awful for your little one. Fingers crossed for a good night. We have the 4 month jabs in a couple of weeks and I'm dreading them. DS had a temperature after both the 2 and the 3 month jabs, and after the 3 month ones he was out of sorts for days afterwards Sad

Domestic, fingers crossed that you manage to get everything done tonight and get some sleep!

Me, glad you had a better day today, it sounds like our babies are synchronised! My DS has been a dream today after two really horrible screamy, teething, nap refusing moany days. I took DS to rhyme time at the library this morning and he loved it! He had a very serious look on his face and spent a lot of the time just looking around, but was full of smiles and giggles towards the end. We bought a high chair today and I'm going to start sitting DS in it whilst we are eating so he can see what is going on. He isn't interested in food yet but spends a lot of time just staring at me while I am eating! He sat in a Bumbo at post natal group on Tuesday and looked super comfy in it, but they are so expensive for what is essentially a bit of foam!
