We're into thread 2! Can't believe our babies have been here this long!

Haha! Ds is a total weeble when he's sitting!

haquoi123 · 28/07/2016 00:10

clumsy I've taken a break but have a freezer full of empty bottles to get started with, so from next week hopefully.

handbag that's a really helpful pic, thanks! I think my flange is too big but I don't think it's interchangeable on my avent (still going strong, I love it, thanks clara!). I might try to get a replacement part for the lansinoh electric pump I was given and see if that's any good. It doesn't have a soft cushion so I was getting sores.

troika woohoo on the pram! What type is it? And that's incredible about breast milk and bacteria! The pump has sat in the fridge the last two days, it's made it so much easier!

Well done to sitting babies! Ds can sit as well (another plonk down and hover to catch here) and is slowly getting there on the rolling. He did a new move, a chest tuck, today while on his front so I'm thinking he's heading towards crawling. We'll see. We've introduced since food as well, which is exciting. Cucumber is the best thing ever, apparently. He loved it for his teeth!

liberty no idea about night weaning. Ds has erratic sleep as well, it's been all over the place this week, and feeding back to sleep. I'm following him with it but wondering how long it will last.

LibertyBelles · 28/07/2016 08:41

Yeah haq I'm not sure I've got the energy to do anything about it tbh. Think I'll wait until she's eating food properly - we've just started BLW this week (she's 6 months on the 1st) and she's really taken to it! She loves buttery toast Grin

CarrotPuff · 28/07/2016 09:51

Hi everyone, can I join please? I've been on this thread at the very start, but fell off at some point.

I've got DD who is 5 months old today! Also have 2.8yo DS.

clumsypots · 28/07/2016 15:16

Hi carrot!

Thanks for the pic handbag I will have a look next time I pump, I don't do it very often. I've just got a bog standard advent hand pump.

Hurray for sitting babies and wahoo for your new pram troika!

I went to work for a full day yesterday and walked out looking like some kind of surgically enhanced page 3 model! Need to find a way of relieving the pressure for work tomorrow and next week without having anywhere private to pump.

Troika · 28/07/2016 20:03

Haquoi, I don't know if yours will fit but I used to put the avent rubber bit in the medela pump. It wasn't a perfect fit and used to gather a bit of milk but worked well enough.

I have no idea about night weaning, I don't make babies that sleep! It will end one day...

LibertyBelles · 28/07/2016 21:21

Haha troika - DD is going through a phase of waking every hour. Not sure whether to try water?? Argh so confused

haquoi123 · 28/07/2016 21:53

Welcome back carrot! How're things going with you?

troika I'll have a look at that now, thanks!

Hahaha clumsy, I've resorted to pumping on a train I got that uncomfortable after a day away in London, and numerous times in my car parked in laybys when I've been away in Newcastle. I think work is legally obliged to provide you with a fridge and room to pump in (I'm Freelance so no hope there). I've stocked up with a cool bag, freezer blocks and storage pouches to keep milk cold and that's worked quite well. It's a nightmare though, isn't it?

OP posts:
clumsypots · 29/07/2016 00:20

Haha haq did you get funny looks on the train? I'm in a shop front open plan office on a high street and the only place with a door is the one and only toilet and it's not fair to the other staff to use that and I would have to pump and dump anyway as I'm not feeding Ds toilet milk.

In other news the first tooth has arrived today!

liberty that sounds awful hope you get some more sleep soon

LibertyBelles · 29/07/2016 08:22

Thanks clumsy I think it's a combination of trying to crawl and starting on food confusing her little body!! Hoping she'll get used to both soon and we'll go back to our better (although no where near perfect sleep with two ish wake ups)

CarrotPuff · 29/07/2016 10:58

Ouch clumsy. If you want to pump at work, they really have to provide you with proper room. They have to do it by law. Toilet doesn't count! Don't they have any kind of office you could use?

I'm good haq, thanks. DD has taken to waking up at 6am, which is quite annoying, especially as DS has started sleeping until 6.30-7, and I'm also not a morning person. More often than not she wakes up only twice a night though, so I won't complain too much Brew

clumsypots · 30/07/2016 14:29

carrot there is no other room with a door that isn't completely covered in Windows that are visible to clients as they walk into the office Hmm. I've got a blocked milk duct today and a horrific cold (not that the cold is related I'm just miserable) so am going to take a leaf out of haq's book and go to my car at lunchtime to pump there next week.

haquoi123 · 31/07/2016 09:17

Highly recommend the car clumsy. Is it worth mentioning it to them, so that they've at least thought about it? I pumped in the train toilet, but washed my hands first, stood with my back to the door and only transferred the milk from pump to pouch when I got out. There was a lady who had been waiting a while (I could hear the conversations of people saying 'that person has been a while!') but when I came out with pump brimming with milk she gave me a knowing look and all was forgiven! I was on the verge of just pumping in the carriage but there was a school party and it felt a bit strange getting my boob out...

OP posts:
HandbagFan · 31/07/2016 09:26

I have been known to pump in a moving car while travelling back from days out! Passenger seat only! I pull a baby blanket over my chest once I'm all hooked up. I also have a hands free pumping bra but it's not very comfortable so I tend to use both hands.

I spend a lot of time reading forums about EP (exclusive pumping) and it would be easy to believe all American women are pumping while on the work commute. Imagine if you had a bump and got out the car all hooked up!

clumsypots · 31/07/2016 11:20

I don't think work can do anything as the office is just not built to accommodate it. I will pump in the car for my 2 kit days next week and then I think logistically I'm just going to have to stop feeding in September when I go back to work full time. I have passed 6 months which is what i wanted to get to.

handbag that would be embarrassing! I'm sure that would invalidate your insurance here though as I'm sure pumping is more distracting than swigging from a water bottle!

clarabellski · 02/08/2016 13:56

Welcome carrot. Brew

First tooth already clumsy? Slow down babies!. I want to freeze time...

I'm just getting over a yucky bout of gastrobug so haven't posted much. Has meant ds has been spending a few days with grandparents which is good practice for when I go back to work. Also hope that ds doesn't catch anything as I've been keeping my distance. Fingers crossed!

haquoi123 · 02/08/2016 21:26

Poor you clara! Those things suck.

handbag you can get those pumps that just sit in your bra, they're like cups, and you can pump without getting your baps out! I'm sure I'd have a terrible poker face, I'd grimace at the let down, etc!

OP posts:
clumsypots · 06/08/2016 13:27

Hope you are feeling better clara. Yes time needs to slow down, only 1 month until I am back at work now Sad

I thought I had finished my kit days but they have snuck an extra one in the Friday before I am due back, I suppose it's good as I can get organised for the Monday morning but screws up holiday plans.

Has anyone else started weaning yet? How are you finding it?

CarrotPuff · 06/08/2016 18:25

Poor you Clara, glad you're getting over it though.

Not started weaning here yet, DD is 6 months in 3 weeks. Will probably start once she's sitting up properly, she's nearly there. Although she did have a suck on a cucumber stick today when we were having a picnic.

HandbagFan · 06/08/2016 20:38

Weve started BLW. Since Sunday and it's going remarkably well!

clarabellski · 06/08/2016 21:10

Similar position to carrot re weaning here too.

Has anyone bought any stuff to babyproof house yet? Specifically to make furniture safer? Any recommendations/things to avoid? Ds is commando crawling everywhere now and it's surprising how quick he gets in about stuff Shock

clumsypots · 06/08/2016 21:29

handbag what sort of things are you offering? My sister has scared me with weaning as her Ds is allergic to everything so I feel like I have lost my confidence with it.

clara wow crawling already?! We haven't baby proofed as such yet just keeping everything off the floor as he rolls around all over the living room.

2nd tooth appeared today, that explains the awful night sleep we had last night.

clarabellski · 06/08/2016 22:08

Just commando crawling for now! Hasn't quite figured out the legs yet! But it's amazing how far they can get just pulling themselves around...

HandbagFan · 07/08/2016 03:50

Clumsy - so far it's been a mixture of toast/pitta/peppers/carrots/broccoli/cauliflower/cucumber/runner beans/yoghurt. All chopped into finger shaped pieces. He even had two chips and a suck on half a meatball in IKEA on Thursday!

I'd read about 'veg for victory' so no fruit yet but I've bought a melon and will get some pears and bananas. I've also got ready brek in the cupboard but we'll wait til he's a bit more competent for that!

We've also got some sippy cups to give him water with his 'meals'.

He's pulling some fantastic faces but it's going well so far and he's enthusiastic.

clumsypots · 07/08/2016 08:31

Thanks handbag Ds has been having puréed veg and fruit and have stocked the freezer with different meals after mammoth cooking session yesterday but I wanted to try him with some finger food as well (now my sis is no longer in the country to shout at me Grin) The only thing I have come across so far that he doesn't like is avocado but I suppose that's a slightly odd texture.
