strawberry Also recommend a book of stickers and those mini magnetic drawing boards.

Sounds awesome MrsA. Me and babydolly are going to a local festival in a few weeks, last year she was brilliant, she was 8 months and pulling herself up on things and crawling but not walking so she was happy pottering on the blanket and making friends with people next to us and even napping during the sets! I fear she's set a very high standard and this year she'll be stealing food, running off, climbing every chair/cool box and person she can find. DP collects her in the early evening and then I get smashed a break.

Now, sympathy needed. Before we went on hols I ordered some stuff from La Redoute, including 2 leather jackets, I kept most things but decided not to keep the 2 leather jackets and a dress and left them piled up, along with all the packaging from the stuff I kept, in the office where I'd been trying the stuff on (because there's a full length mirror and DP and DD were in our bedroom getting ready for bed). Fast forward to this morning when I go to grab all the stuff to return today and it's not in the office, or the spare room... DP thought it was all rubbish and thrown it out. Hundreds of pounds worth. It was an accident but fuck, what a total waste of money. He suggested going to the tip to get it... I nearly punched him in the face.

moggle · 05/07/2016 09:30

oh my god ladydolly I would've punched him!! Surely two leather jackets must've had quite a weight to them - how did he not notice it wasn't all packaging!! Argh. I can imagine how you're feeling. When I hear stories like this I'm almost glad my husband never does anything proactive around the house...

MrsA glad the festival was good!! Anna hope creche continues to go well.

We're having our artificial lawn fitted this week! They started yesterday and DD immediately had a new word, digger (or didder as she says). She also decided that the older guy in charge was Grandpa and a youngish guy with dark hair and a beard was Daddy. Somewhat embarrassing so we stayed inside the house to watch them after that so they couldn't hear her squawking Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!!

Annarose2014 · 05/07/2016 09:57

I think I would have fainted on the spot. I've had to get a replacement thingy from an Amazon seller and instead of sending it to my home address they sent it to a shipping address that's gonna cost me 3.95 to receive and I'm fuming about that alone! I think losing leather jackets would have tipped me over the edge!

Very jealous of your artificial lawn moggle. Ours is utterly shit. It's so rainy here all the time that we've just given into the moss situation. It's like a bloody woodland floor rather than a lawn. But artificial would cost a bomb as it's about 30 ft square.

moggle · 05/07/2016 10:17

Ours is about 65 square metres but due to it being a fecking TRIANGLE shape (WTAF?!) we are going to have to pay for about 80 or 90. It is cleaning out a good chunk of our savings but the compensation we got from our cancelled flights last months has helped out. Hurrah for the EU ;-)

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 05/07/2016 18:32

Oh shit ladydolly I would be so cross.

We got ds1 a small plastic kitchen for 2nd bday it went in his wooden playhouse brought with bday money then when we moved just before his 3rd birthday we did an IKEA trip and brought a wooden kitchen for his bday it does look lovely in playroom and has been well played with as has one in playhouse.

ladydolly · 05/07/2016 19:29

The jackets were really light, that's the main reason I was returning them. I actually only had one in the returns bag, the other one was upstairs so at least it's hundred singular not hundreds multiple. But arses. Unbelievable.

We also have mossy, shit lawn and have our eye on a faux lawn but that'll be next year, I still have to sort the house out first. I have a lonnnnng list for things to do when I'm between jobs after next week.

Strawberryfield12 · 05/07/2016 21:13

Anna, Ladydolly thanks for great ideas, have bought a small set of playmobile figurines and a stickers book. She likes to play with her playmobile farm and stickers will be all new. If there would be an internet on plane, I could have her pinned for 2 hours with Youtube only. She isn't too excited about all the apps and even the cartoons we downloaded. In fact I am bit concerned to give her ipad without wifi, she has been known to throw the ipad in frustration because Youtube didn't work. I already feel for the passenger sat next to us...

Ladydolly that's crap. DH tends to "sort out" all the post and often throw out the "junk" mail, while it's not junk in my eyes. I have once actually sent him to the bin for a Boden £10 off voucher. Blush

ladydolly · 06/07/2016 14:44

Those of you with eczema sufferers in your family, a friend of mine let me know about this remedy she ordered from Oz, she showed me pictures and it's made a massive difference to her 1 year olds skin, eczemarelief.com.au/ just in case you've not made any progress with any other suggestions.

moggle · 06/07/2016 15:07

Thanks dolly that looks interesting. Fingers crossed here, but changing our laundry powder seems to have cleared up DD's patches entirely. Suspect the true test will be when winter rolls around again, maybe it's just the warmer weather helping it.
However she's now covered in heat rash!! Bumps all over her face, neck, chest, tummy. Thank goodness it doesn't seem to be bothering her at all but she looks fairly terrible. It's not even that hot!

moggle · 06/07/2016 20:23

I spoke too soon! At nursery pick up today her face was all red and puffy from itching the rash :-( stopped off at boots on the way home and pharmacist had a look at her and we've now got piriton syrup and calamine and glycerin cream. It already seemed better by the time she went to bed. Poor sausage.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 08/07/2016 16:41

Hope everyone iis OK been quiet for couple days

Dare I admit dh has only just moved back into master bedroom since I was 8mths pregnant thats 20mths in spare room never expected ds2 to be such a crap sleeper or have reflux and allergies. Oh n I am sooo not enjoying iit he snores I am used to space its weird :)

porsmork · 08/07/2016 19:15

Haha east! That must be weird. I must admit I enjoy sleeping by myself if dh is away or one of us is ill so gives the other space. Luckily, I don't have a snorer!
Been quiet here as I've got a fever so hunkering in bed in the afternoons and don't have strength for much. House needs a really good clean and I just can't face it!

Annarose2014 · 08/07/2016 21:01

Wow east thats a big adjustment! How is your DS sleeping now? Is he in his own room now?

We had a couple of successes today. Firstly, we left DS in creche all day (well, till 2.30 which was an eternity for us) for the first time - and he napped for them! We were massively relieved as it was a bit of a nervewracker - he dropped his nap entirely yesterday so we didnt know how today would go. But he went down like a dream for them. Huge worry averted.

On the flip side he refused all their dinner AND even a plain sandwich so subsisted on crackers and yoghurt all day but hey, you cant win them all.

The second success is that he went to sleep tonight on his own! It was accidental - I put him in his cot and realised I desperately needed a wee so slithered out to the loo expecting him to protest but he didnt even notice as he was bouncing around. So then I decided to slink into our room and watch him on the monitor and only go in if he got upset. And he didnt! 45 mins of playing and messing later....he was asleep!

First time ever he hasnt needed us to sleep! It made me feel like he really is becoming a big boy.

MrsAukerman · 08/07/2016 22:20

That's ace Anna and east you have my sympathies. DH often accidentally sleeps all night on the sofa but he thinks I snore / breath heavily so he struggles to settle next to be and then keeps me awake huffing and puffing. Occasionally one of us even sneaks into DS's room to sleep on the single bed in there.

Oh, he's started sleeping til nearly 0630. Ssssshsshhhhhhhh. Don't tell anyone in case you jinx it

OP posts:
eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 09/07/2016 06:31

Ds2 sleeps much better most nights 6.30-5.30/6 he been in own room since 5mths

happypotamus · 09/07/2016 22:06

Anna nursery sounds like it's going really well for you. Nursery is the only place DD has napped this week, I think (I currently can't actually remember as far back as Monday, can't even remember if I was at work or not!?!). Tuesday and Wednesday she went to nursery, Thursday my dad looked after her and he pushed her in the pushchair for ages but she refused to go to sleep, Friday she eventually fell asleep at 4pm picking DD1 up from school but woke up after about 10mins! I want nap time back!!

Annarose2014 · 10/07/2016 09:32

Yes I think we might all be entering the "dodgy nap phase" at this age.

Last night I slithered out of the room immediately again. He called me a couple of times after that but I just went in, tucked him back down again and said nighty night and he let me leave the room every time. And fell asleep by himself 5 mins earlier than usual! DH and I are massively invested in this sticking, as with the new one coming in Sept we won't have the time to be sitting in the dark with DS for an hour.

DS did wake up a couple of times during the night but we don't even mind that much as long as we can leave his room - it makes such a psychological difference!

porsmork · 10/07/2016 19:42

So I mentioned to dh today that I thought nursery might be a good idea for ds. I thought I'd be told not to be silly, but he agreed that it'd be the right time for him to start going a day or two a week! Feels like a big milestone for both of us!

I'd be so annoyed about the clothes lady dolly! Though I'd like a shopping spree. I'm trying out project 333, and clothes seem to wear out so quickly!

happypotamus · 11/07/2016 09:46

After deciding naps are for wimps and she wasn't going to bother with any last week, she fell asleep at 6pm in the highchair while I was finishing dinner last night. She wouldn't wake up to eat, woke up a bit when I got her ready for bed, woke up enough to cry through DD1's bedtime story and make it impossible for me to wash DD1's hair, then was breastfed back to sleep. I expected a horrific night of her waking loads because she would be hungry and not tired, but she actually slept until 7!! She is making up for missing dinner though. She has already eaten 1 and a half weetabix, a handful of shreddies, 3/4 of slice of toast and is now eating an apple!

Annarose2014 · 11/07/2016 10:23

Ok so I have a question for you nursery peeps.

We have a very poorly miserable boy here this morning. Lethargic, pale, sleeping loads etc. Hes literally been dozing all morning. No D+V though. (YET!) He's still alert though so not overly worried or anything.

I presume this is some virus-y thing from crèche? Did any of you have this?

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 11/07/2016 12:07

Anna we started nursery at 9mths and for first 4mths he permanently had a cold, cough, high temp all viral type stuff but now has occasional thing but much better, ds1 went to a cm and he was never I'll like that I guess nursery more children in and out so more germs.

Took ds2 swimming this morning havent been for months so much so we bypassed his 12-18mths swimsuit!! Well soon as got in he screamed so out baby pool into main pool he counted to me but wawasnt screaming after while went back in baby pool he sat on me and eventually relaxed and toddled around a bit stayed in about 45mins so worth perserving, he is now asleep on my bed since 11.15 after refusing brunch he was knackered

happypotamus · 11/07/2016 12:22

anna yes, nursery is a hotbed of germs. Whatever age they start at, they are repeatedly ill to begin with. DD2 has been going for 10 months now and still has a runny nose most of the time and a cough quite often though she has only had a couple of D&V bugs so far and not had chicken pox yet. In the long run though, DD1 has not had a day off sick in her first year of school (2 weeks to go until the holidays so hoping I haven't jinxed us by saying that!), possibly because she had most germs at nursery.

Annarose2014 · 11/07/2016 12:30

He has been alternately sleeping or sobbing all morning! He really is utterly miserable.

His temp seems ok though.

The only thing that's frustrating is that he won't drink anything and won't take calpol. So I don't want him getting dehydrated/headachey. I'm going to try hot milk in a bottle whenever he wakes. If he doesn't take that I'm not sure what to do though.

Feel rather inept - he has literally never been sick a day in his life so feel a bit clueless! Is this sleepiness normal for viruses?

happypotamus · 11/07/2016 16:13

Yes, it's normal to be more sleepy with a virus. When I am ill I mostly want to sleep and it is often the same for children too. Not getting dehydrated is important. Keep offering him drinks of whatever he is most likely to take. Also, ice lollies, yoghurts, juicy fruits etc will help if he will have any. Is he still having wet nappies? The current advice is that you don't need to give calpol for a high temperature unless they are really distressed by it, so he might feel better if he had some, but you don't need to worry too much if he refuses, just try and keep in a cool room with light clothing on. Hope he is feeling better soon. It is horrible when they are poorly and you don't know how to make them better.

Annarose2014 · 12/07/2016 09:36

We had a dreadful night last night - up 6 times! And this morning it took him half an hour to drink his water.

But he has brightened up as the morning has gone on and is 90% now. We're still keeping him home today. donththinkofthemoneydontthinkofthemoney.....

Yesterday we were fairly successful in getting food and fluids in him (thank god for sausages) but he slept the whole day, was totally silent and was burning hot by evening. I eventually managed to get calpol into him by hiding it in fromage frais!

So I guess it was a 24 hr bug - our first! He hasn't had a dirty nappy in 2 days so that'll be...... interesting....

Thanks for all the reassurance!
