Not so long ago DD used to play independantly for quite a long while, pottering about doing her own thing with toys, but now she literally grabs me play the hand and drags me to what she wants to do while whining "Plaaayy, plaaayyy mummmyyy." (every few words I am forced to stop typing this to make a teddy dance to the very irritating song sung by a tin of Christmas themed shower gels and stuff that I got for my birthday). Unfortunately I have discovered that I need to relearn a lot of biology for next week's course at work while looking after her and working all weekend. The non-sleeping wonderchild cheating me out of evenings has been exacerbated recently by fireworks. What I assumed was Diwali fireworks has been going on for a week now and Bonfire Night will be all weekend, waking her up from just after bedtime until my bedtime.

HalfStar · 03/11/2016 10:33

happy how annoying. It's so hard when you're trying to get some work done while also trying to fit in some, you know, sleep! In between the child wrangling.

Dd2 woke in the night vomiting Sad about 3 times in the space of about 1.5 hours but nothing since. Meanwhile dd1 is looking green around the gills. Have a work deadline tomorrow Confused I've a pounding headache after being up for half the night. Need to work up the energy to get us all outside for a bit.

ladydolly · 03/11/2016 13:01

Oh dear, hard times all round. Sending tea and sympathy.

annatha Yes! I've had this, a pair of wellies on amazon that I sized up on only lasted a couple of weeks. Even within brand, my faves are livie and luca but last time I ordered 3 pairs, 1 too small, one slightly too large and one massive.

Strawberryfield12 · 03/11/2016 14:32

ladydolly annatha that probably explains why DH week ago managed to get DD in size 3 wellies and she even managed to walk in them...

porsmork · 03/11/2016 19:43

Hehe, ds must be dinky, he's still in size 4.5 shoes!
We didn't do Halloween here, much. Didn't dress him up, but we did some crafty stuff with orange tissue paper. He lasted about 30 seconds before going off to do something else, so I finished the gluing myself!

annatha · 04/11/2016 12:15

I think dd has massive feet compared to the rest of her. She's a dinky little thing, wears 18-24 month clothes (could probably fit 12-18 months in most things). She turned 2 yesterday and loved the teddy bed from Ikea. She kept climbing in and tucking herself in.

happypotamus · 04/11/2016 14:56

The hospital just rang with an appointment for next Wednesday for DD2 after last week's GP appointment. I had wondered about when that would be because of the 2 week cancer referral pathway. They also asked me to email them the relevant photos in case she needs to be seen sooner.
Shit, that makes it seem much more real :(
DH will have to take her on his own too because of the week long course I am doing.

Ladydolly · 04/11/2016 15:37

So what did the GP say happy? Are these consultants that you know from work? How are you feeling about it?

Strawberryfield12 · 05/11/2016 05:25

So sorry happy you have to go through this stuff, hopefully it turns out just a bad scare.

happypotamus · 05/11/2016 06:57

lady before he even looked at her the GP said he would refer to the eye department at the hospital, because he couldn't do the necessary tests himself. I don't know the eye doctors at all, which might be a good thing. The consultant we saw about the CMPI when she was tiny is someone who I work with and it was kind of weird. Sometimes I am almost convinced that it will turn out to be nothing, just a trick of the light or whatever, but other times I am terrified of what could happen next week. DH said he isn't worried at all and made out it was silly for me to worry about this. He said he might be nervous on Wednesday but at the moment he isn't worried!

happypotamus · 05/11/2016 07:10

halfstar how are your DDs now? I have got almost none of the biology done that I was supposed to be learning this week and am out all day today and at work all day tomorrow. Oh well.

It's got cold here this week. DD detests any attempt to keep her warm. Previously I was of the pick-your-battles school of thought and let her not wear a coat if she didn't want to, but now I think it is cold enough that she should put one on which leads to tantrums every time we leave the house. I found the fleece thing that goes on the pushchair to keep her legs warm in the cold, but she hated it and shouted "no, no, no thank you" until I took it off. Then I found gloves on a string and put them through the sleeves of her coat. She was outraged by that before I even suggested she put the gloves on, and somehow managed to drag one of them along the side of the pushchair in all the dirt so I had to wash them even though they had never been worn. I haven't even tried hats yet! Meanwhile, DD1 realised it was cold and took gloves to school on 2 days and each day came home without them, one of the pairs she took was actually mine. Today DD1 are doing an outside thing all day and so I have to find us both more gloves, then we are going to in-laws this evening for fireworks and I have to somehow keep DD2 warm!!

Strawberryfield12 · 05/11/2016 07:27

This is the view we have been waking up last two mornings. DD was very unimpressed by amount of clothing we were putting on her yesterday and she refused blankly to walk on the snow until we got the pram out for her to push around, that cheered her up a bit. And me throwing snow in the air and letting it all fall back on my head made her giggle, otherwise I havent seen her SOO grumpy.

happypotamus · 05/11/2016 22:53

Well, DD liked fireworks all week from a distance out of the window, but doesn't really like them up close in the same garden as her. She said "I'm scared," so we watched from inside. I wonder how she even knows what it means to be scared. It was after 9pm when we got home, so hopefully she will be tired enough to sleep through the fireworks which are still going on and the very loud music the next door neighbour is playing.

HalfStar · 06/11/2016 13:16

DDs are fine thanks happy. Seems to have been a v.short-lived bug, only those couple of pukes and then done. DD1 has escaped so far and DH and I are okay too. On we go til the next time so any day now

happy its good that you have an appointment so soon. Fingers crossed all is okay. You & DH have done all you can so far to get her seen.

Cold here too. DD1 back to school on Monday after midterm and the annoying lost gloves thing will come into play then I guess. No matter how many pairs of cheap gloves I buy in Primark, they all go wandering the instant they come into my possession.

DD2 is size 4.5ish now, we have at least two pairs of good hand me down Clarks in size 5 but she's not quite there yet and we've no size 4.5...how annoying!

We are VERY lucky here there is no tantrumming about putting on hats or coats, for some reason DD2 loves to put them on?! Mittens however just get taken off. DH says putting mittens on babies/toddlers is one of his most hated parenting jobs....'put your thumb in there...there! there!' and then 2 seconds later they're off.

Anna how is the weekend going? How is DD?

Annarose2014 · 06/11/2016 14:19

Christ, DS is in size 6 shoes now! Big lump!

Weekend going ok - thanks for thinking of me! It's all a bit crap in terms of activities, but no meltdowns at least. We've cracked weekend naps now we asked the crèche and are copying them (an hour later after lunch basically). I still count the hours a bit though. DS never ever stops! It's exhausting!

He has been beautiful with DD though. She is now 6 weeks and starting to resemble a cabbage patch doll, which is adorable. Spectacularly easy baby compared to DS, a little darling.

I am starting to feel more like myself too. Body is starting to feel normal again. It is officially Getting Easier , even if it's still the hardest thing I've ever done!

I hope Ark is ok.

porsmork · 06/11/2016 16:05

Ds loved the fireworks. Asking for 'more boom boom' all day.
I had my first 'sorry' too. He was pulling at a pot plant and I asked him to stop. He didn't and pulled a few leaves off. Went over to him and he cuddled up to me and said 'sorry, sorry' like he really meant it. It was heartbreaking!
Dh has taken him out for the day. I've been feeling really under the weather and low the past few weeks and just can't shift this sore-throat, run down feeling. Everything is a bit of a struggle at the moment. Think I need to pull my socks up and try to have a bit more fun.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 06/11/2016 19:30

Ds2 hated fireworks good job didn't plan any for his bday in couple weeks as we did last yr.

Had feet measured today now a 5.

Ds2 loves shoes, hats etc and when going out gets everyone coats shoes, hats, gloves for them.

Oh the gloves left at school annoys me soooo much I was kind about it in reception and then yr 1 said your issue and now year 2 be better bloody not lose them, he gets one or two decent pairs then a bunch cheap ones usually brought in supermarket end season sale. Ds2 has mix of end season sale hats and gloves and ds1 hand me downs.

HalfStar · 06/11/2016 20:29

Right, I want to get Christmas sorted well in time, what are you all getting yours for Christmas? (Or birthday if that's yet to come.) DD1 is mostly sorted but DD2, I have no idea. We have the doll cot and a bajillion jigsaws and, truth be told, she doesn't need a damn thing and I am desperately trying to declutter the house. I know she won't notice what she gets but her sister will! Probably will go for something that can easily be packed away into existing storage, e.g. Duplo. If we get more books the house will fall down!

happypotamus · 07/11/2016 06:36

Today is the beginning of my trial of Monday-Friday 9-5 life (a course at work this week then jury service for the next 2). DD didn't read the bit on the course information about it being very intense with only short lunch breaks and so likely to be tiring. She's back to coughing all night then waking up to cry about it for a hour, and it doesn't help that I worked 13hrs yesterday and came home to clean up the house as my MIL is here today looking after DD so I have had 4-5 broken hours of sleep.

Half I have no idea about Christmas for either DD. Neither of them need anything really. MIL asked me this question on Saturday and I suggested she bring the toy shop catalogue she had to our house and lets them look at it and I think they will tell her what they like! That will definitely work with DD1 and I think DD2 will join in. The only thing I can think of for DD2 so far is Peppa Pig play sets. I don't think she has ever seen Peppa on TV unless MIL puts it on at her house, but she recognises the character and shouts 'Piigg' excitedly. We have a few characters that DD1 had and she plays with them in a house that is part of a different toy. I also bought the Happyland dolls' house a few weeks ago in the sale, will probably get more duplo anyway, and I completely agree with what you say about more books. I love books and want them to have lots but we have no more room for them.

eastmids DD1 also didn't bring home her school cardigan on Friday. If that doesn't turn up today, she only has one left and they don't tumble dry so she will be very cold until I can get to the only shop you can buy them from and spend £14 on another one Angry

Strawberryfield12 · 07/11/2016 07:08

happy cant Dd1 go in wearing any regular cardigan, maybe similar colours? I know school uniform and all, but surely in the emergency the school wont be that middle age mentality as to rather a child is freezing and probably ended being ill than wear a non uniform cardigan? Or I dont have a clue about how schools work?

HalfStar · 07/11/2016 11:03

God we are lucky here with uniform. Anything from M&S or Dunnes in the right colour is fine and I tumble dry the shit out of them! Good luck with your week ahead happy it sounds like it will be very intense. Really hope DD2's cough eases off so you can get more sleep.

We had a scarf meltdown this morning, two DDs fighting over the one scarf. DD1 has a nice hand-knitted (by her DGM) scarf which is kids' sized and this morning DD2 nabbed it first and put it on - fancied herself SO much in it ok she looked completely adorable so I get it and DD1 got really upset about me trying to convince her to wear one of my smaller ones and had a strop while DD2 also bawled about the prospect of 'her' scarf being taken off her. So DD1 has gone off with no scarf but the only pair of mittens going. Sigh. This really cold weather is hard work!

porsmorck 'more boom boom' is super cute Grin DD2 has yet to say sorry though she understands fine well the concept Hmm Hope you're feeling ok. If you've been low for a while it would it be a touch of PND? Apparently it's common anytime up to and beyond the first 5years. Sorry if that's way off the mark Brew

ladydolly · 07/11/2016 13:04

Yes so far, DD loves a hat and scarf. Mostly because she loves anything that me and her dad have (so we all wear hats and scarves) and anything with a song (just like her dad) so we have little tune that basically says ‘DD has an X, Mummy has an X, Daddy has an X, we all love X’s’ and X = whatever it is we want her to wear, eat, do. Works like a charm for now. Have probably outed myself with this information!

I love xmas so I start my shopping in the January sales and I’m all done now apart from DP’s pressie and I know what that will be. We got DD a play house for her birthday but bought it at the end of summer (to get a bargain) and for Xmas I’ve got her a dolls house which I got at a carboot for £20 including furniture. It’s beautiful and must have cost hundreds originally. Just needs a lick of paint but as we’ve nowhere to store it other than the shed that will have to be done later in December. Other pressies from family include a scooter, dolls buggy, dolly, star wars figure, v tech camera and then some practical items like the grobag suits which are £30 a pop, some jumpers and socks. I’ve also got stocking items which are mostly stickers, crayons, books, mini cars and peppa pig figures.

I’m going to the states for work next week and it will be hard not to buy more things for everyone really but I’m spent out by now. Also 6 days away from DD, longest I’ve ever gone and includes a whole precious weekend. It’s west coast too so skyping will be difficult. On the plus side – sleep! (and 27 degrees)

ark are you out there? How are you doing?

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 07/11/2016 13:19

Yep we no longer buy school logo just m&s or sainsburys.

For birthday ds2 has wooden farm bits and duplo from us, my mum has got him a quad bike! And my sister megablocks no idea rest family For Xmas he is having ds1 old happyland. Ds1 wants Lego Lego and more Lego NP issue with that as we have more toys than toys r us in this house.

Ds1 for his second birthday had a plastic kitchen then with bday money a wooden playhouse both still in garden and survived a house move, for hus 3rd birthday be had the wooden IKEA kitchen as obviously every play room needs one and ds2 loves that and the shopping rtrolley

porsmork · 07/11/2016 13:34

Wow, some very exciting gifts there! Ds is getting a toy garage for main birthday present, and some blocks and construction set type things. I very loosely do a bit of Montessori with him, so trying to keep it all open ended. We'll see how that works out. The cupboard upstairs is filling up with stuff, so just need to check what's there.
What are you getting for your DH's? We're really cutting back this year, so I'm just asking for either new pjs or a smart bag for work. DH, no idea. He likes whisky and football and statistics....

annatha · 07/11/2016 16:28

We've got a play kitchen for dd and ds to share. Bit of a cop out for ds as he's not quite 1 and will probably not quite understand it, he's just happy to be around dd at all times bless him. Dd got an easel from Ikea for her birthday and it's a bit hit, she chalks for hours (not brave enough for paint etc yet)
