Yesterday we went to a children theme park was quiet as not school hold there thank goodness for iindoor soft play with air con n the water ride, its great as both boys can go on all rides.

Haha! Kids are so gross Grin
We had a fab day at the beach yesterday too. Dd 2 was fearless playing in the waves, it was just me and the dds and I really had to keep my wits about me as she was prone to getting free of my hand and running straight into the sea.
She's getting really fussy about eating. Anyone else's? Just picks at her dinner. Not a great raw vegetable eater either. We're down to about 3 healthy dinners that she'll eat and the rest of the time it's just messing. Blargh.

Annarose2014 · 20/07/2016 10:53

Gosh best of luck at Alton Towers!

Anyone else have a very overheated and overwrought night?

Ours was just the worst. DS woke up at 1.30 and........finally slept at 6.30am. Yep.

In between he was hysterical, screaming the neighbourhood down as the window was open of course with the heat. Basically he got overheated, and then got flustered, and everything we tried to do (take off sleepsuit, give bottle of water etc) just made him angrier. He kept losing his dummy but went mental if we tried to pin it onto his clothes as usual.....and then he'd freak cos he couldnt find it.....eventually he became overtired and turned into a screaming insane bawling mess. We tried rocking him to sleep in our arms and that'd work for 10 mins but then it got too sweaty for him and he'd kick off again....

So how did everyone else get on???!

Tnank God I could let him sleep as long as he wanted this morning and he slept then till 10. So then was in absolutely TIP TOP FORM (grrr....) whilst Mum and Dad were hollow eyed shakey weepy zombies.

We've packed him off to creche. We've had enough! We're promised rain later and I've never wished for anything more!

Annarose2014 · 20/07/2016 10:57

Halfstar DS is becoming a bit of a pain about food as well. Basically if it aint pasta-based, he aint interested. His diet is becoming a bit shite, tbh. But you have to pick your battles, dont you?

How do you all stop them constantly hurtling into the sea at the beach?? DS is like a kamikaze pilot! Its so stressful!

happypotamus · 20/07/2016 17:10

Anna I worked the past 2 nights, leaving DH to deal with overheated, too hot to sleep DDs. To be fair, I had to deal with other people's too hot to sleep DC in a much hotter environment. It was 30 degrees in the middle of the night on my ward and that was in a room with windows and an open door. Some of the cubicles don't have windows and have to keep the door closed. I was very grateful to leave work in the morning and walk into an air-conditioned shop. We are not braving the beach until next week (it will probably be cold and raining again by then!)

eastmids your username suggests you are not a million miles away from me and even closer to my parents. Which children's theme park did you go to? DD bought home a leaflet for Gullivers Kingdom in Matlock, which is not too far from my parents and looks suitable for both DDs.

It has been too hot to sleep much in the day while working nights this week. There is less than 48hrs until my interview, so I am using the time while DD2 is at nursery to research the presentation (taking a brief break to read MN) as I have to write it and learn powerpoint tomorrow whilst looking after her! However, I have managed to locate smart clothes and shoes and discovered I still fit in my 'interview suit' even though I haven't interviewed for anything in over 10yrs!

haventgotaclue1 · 20/07/2016 19:37

Well for last 3 nights now the monitor has been flashing "too hot" (no shit Hmm) and reading 28 degrees...we've put her in a short-sleeved vest and that's it - no sleeping bag or blanket although if (ha, ha, I mean "when") she cries out and it's a bit cooler, I put a cellular blanket over her bottom half. For the last 2 nights we've also had a fan going from 7-10pm and then we turn it off once we go to bed. Last night she took 15-20 mins to settle, but then slept through til 4.30; needed re-settling but slept again until around 5.20 which is normal wake-up time in our house Sad.

I don't think DD is becoming picky with her food YET, but I have noticed that in this hot weather she's definitely less interested and eats less.

Also think she's coming down with something as she's got a snotty nose and her eye is going a bit gunky again. I'm putting it down to teething...Still, we've and almost 3 months of zero illness which is the longest period since she started nursery last Nov.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 20/07/2016 20:31

Happy we went to sundown adventure land nr retford (we are Leicestershire). Highly recommend its £14 each and under 2 are free (you can sneak an almost 3yr old in for under 2 in a buggy we did first time with ds1). We didn't q for a ride yesterday was nice and quiet.

Today was amazing busy in main park q for runaway train for 35mins and dh n ds1 q for rapids for 45mins, then they did pirate ships short q, otherwise we went on Skyride amnd spent most day in cbeebies land minimal q's for first hr was literally waiting for go in front to fi ush and as time went on was 20mi s q for some rides and end day same as start. Biggest q was for bloody monorail in and out park -- I was shocked its £6 to park takes piss really nowhere else to park and they know it.

Anyway hoping for better nights sleep ds2 spent night in my bed just cried in his cot too hot and some frequently moaning dh took him Down at4.30 and he downed a beaker of water and ate a fruit pot in seconds.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 20/07/2016 20:34

Happy also if you are a children nurse and local I may possibly know you??? Be able to help with job you are going for??

ladydolly · 20/07/2016 20:57

DD seems to sleep better during hot nights (like me). I nearly popped on here earlier to ask if you thought it was ok to put her down in just her nappy when monitor reads 31c. I've done it anyway, same as last night although she woke at 11.30 and asked for milk then necked her morning bottle but I think that was because she didn't eat her dinner.

Today's trip to London was totally not worth it, my friends were so disorganised we wasted most of the day on googlemaps. DD had to give up her buggy most of the day for my friends over tired 3 year old that she didn't bring a buggy for), DD then fell in a load of stinging nettles. They were so late and disorganised about leaving I had to get a taxi to get our train which then gets in an accident so I miss my train anyway. Much later train, ANOTHER tube station without lifts and DD in a buggy, exhausting entertaining tired DD on both train and bus home, she just about kept it together. If she wasn't SO awesome it would have been a disaster. She cried about the nettles for about a minute, gave up her buggy all day and happily walked, shared all her toys, chatted to people on the train and bus and was just generally a little star. I put NONE of this down to 'good parenting' but really counting my blessings for her today.

On the flipside, I CANNOT stop her from licking thing. I mean like the floor, or posts, or windows. What is this about?? She was also eating stones and acorn cups today but that was clearly to get my attention so she stopped once I played with her.

happypotamus · 21/07/2016 10:30

DD was crying about nothing and I was ready to cry with the stress of the interview and getting ready for the holiday, so I put CBeebies on. We haven't had it on for a while. Oooh, a new programme (patchwork pals) and a new series of Show Me Show Me, I like Show Me Show Me! I am watching it more than DD now though she has at least stopped crying. She found some money in my pocket and is playing with that instead. I'm don't think she going to be in the right mood to potter about and entertain herself while I write a presentation and teach myself PowerPoint today.

eastmids I am in the West Midlands so not so local to you, but thanks for the offer of help. I googled Sundown. I think I went there when I was a child. It looks good. I will add it to my list of places my parents might want to take us! It is more local to them. I guess Alton Towers was full of school trips and some schools broke up earlier in the week round here too.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 21/07/2016 11:55

Oh happy still near though :)

Yes we broke up last Fri some Thursday and yep school trips soooo many coaches, we had lovely day though ds1 went on several bigger rides when ds2 had a good 2hr sleep.

Ds2 has gone to nursery and dh to work, I have been doing some tidying and washing and ds1 is chilling watching TV or on tablet and iis sat in his pants, we will go for a walk around 2 when it cools down as we need some bread.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 22/07/2016 08:15

Well managed to get tax return done for 2015/16 they owe me £4 as I didn't do any self employed work frustrating in a way as expected to get back to just a few hrs here n there from the April 15 but ds2 had other ideas and was June 16 before i have managed to do anything and am still keeping iit v limited at the moment.

This iis me if anyone iis interested m.facebook.com/Leicestershirenightnannybabysitter/?ref=bookmarks&_rdr

happypotamus · 22/07/2016 14:09

eastmids sadly, you are slightly too far away to be my babysitter. I could do with a babysitter though:(

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 22/07/2016 16:01

Ahh happy I could do with a babysitter but I am very picky and also our children spend 4days a week in childcare and I feel bad then booking more unless both were asleep. We haven't been out on own other than lunch since ds2 was born.

Annarose2014 · 23/07/2016 08:30

happy did you have your interview?

DS seems to be starting to realise when he's done a poo. This is a new development. We were always lucky with him in that he never paid a blind bit of notice to any stirrings in his nappy whatsoever. It meant we haven't had to change a nappy overnight since he was about 7 weeks old! He was just oblivious, whereas I know some babies are hyper aware and you have to change nappies almost on command.

But now it's dawning on him. This means though he's getting a bit weird about nappy changes. He runs away and when you insist he gets all distressed and needs lots of distraction.

I wonder if they grow out of it?

Strawberryfield12 · 23/07/2016 20:41

anna could this be the first sign your DS is getting ready for potty training?

MrsAukerman · 24/07/2016 09:27

0520 starts 2 days in a row. Grim.

Brew for MrsA We've had v unsettled nights with millions of wake ups ever since he's started crèche and began The Unending Cold From Hell but at least he's not getting us up early.

Strawberry I suspect it's the beginning of it alright but am refusing to even contemplate it till 2.5 as I'll have a newborn soon! No way am I doing potty training on 2 hrs sleep!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 24/07/2016 13:18

Anna ds2 has been telling us and nursery for couple mths he has done a poo he gets wipes at home and lays on floor to be changed, children at this age developmental wise would not be able to be properly toilet trained more toilet timed. We will wait til April/may time when warmer less clothes unless he shows some strong desire before then. Ds1 was 2.5yrs as we waited til easter weekend and ds2 will be couple mths younger when we try.

Annarose2014 · 24/07/2016 13:37

Yes I did hear about the advantages of summer training. Suits me fine! Just hope this tearfulness about nappy changes eases off.

Upsides to the Petri dish nursery has been more words: balloon, bubbles, cake - they must have had a birthday, lol.

Also (randomly) the number eight which he pronounces in a distinctive Irish accent "ayssh" which is adorable if I say so myself.

moggle · 26/07/2016 09:47

Yes my friends with toddlers the same age as us are all a bit obsessed with potty training at the moment... I guess we all get like that about different development things esp with first babies, but I don't get why anyone is rushing to make it way more likely that there's poo and wee on the floor or sofa!! DD has been telling us for a few months when she is about to do a poo (literally, 3 seconds notice so no use for a potty!) or has just done one. But she also tells us poo poo if she notices someone's bum (embarrassing) or sees a nappy so it's not exactly that helpful! And she's definitely not aware of weeing yet.

My friend's son declared at 2years3m "no more nappies! mummy buy pants!" and refused to be changed in the daytime so I guess she didn't have much of a choice. I'm hoping that leaving it later means it'll be easier.

I'm so glad the hot weather is over! We had an awful week with DD. I think she's going through some kind of leap as well so even after the really hot weather had passed she has still been a massive pain in the arse. However she came to me yesterday with a clothes peg and said "Snap snap!" while doing her crocodile sign :-D I was well impressed! Also her curly crust from her bread was a sssss snake. So maybe that's what the leap has been about...

Eating has getting progressively worse here since about 12m. She doesn't have much variety in her evening meals at all - no proper hot meals apart from macaroni cheese and fish/chicken fingers. Few carbs are tolerated. Only peas and sweetcorn for veg. No bread at the moment although she will eat fruit loaf type stuff. I nearly cried with happiness yesterday when she ate some egg (omelette) as there's hardly anything she'll eat that's both hot and quick to prepare. Most lunch and dinners involve cheese and crackers. She does eat more at nursery though supposedly.
The worst thing is she'll love something one day and the next will flat out refuse it. She's also started throwing food on the floor immediately I put it on her tray - we had trained her to put unwanted food on the dining table next to her tray in a spare bowl, but she's now throwing with intent and it's often whole plates of stuff. It's so hard not to shout at her!!

Strawberryfield12 · 27/07/2016 14:37

DD eats everything in the nursery, but is very picky at home. Fresh veggies? Ha! She doesn't even want to touch them :(

Few days ago she really surprised me. She has been counting till 10 for weeks now, I assumed she just named numbers without any clue, but then she came over with the numbers book pointing and naming every number from one till five Shock

And she now names every colour she sees in the street. Cars, prams, houses. The embarrassing moment is when somebody in bright clothing comes and she point at poor person and shouts full volume "orange!".

MrsAukerman · 28/07/2016 08:10

Wow strawberry! We have green and that's about it. Lots more words obviously but not many colours or numbers.
He's currently amusing himself by doing trains etc and fake sneezing. Kids are weird.
