I really like our Boba 3g vroc (I think they're on 4g now). It's similar to the ergo but I chose it because it has the biggest range of strap length, goes smaller and larger than the ergo. I'm only 5'2 and dh is quite big. And they do pretty designs! That type of decent carrier is expensive but worth it, and they keep their value quite well if you want to sell it on.

Oops, link fail, here

DomesticAnarchist · 23/05/2016 10:41

vroc, my ergo is the Best Thing I've possibly ever bought. I carried DS1 from 5 months till 4 years (pretty much daily), and am now back using it with DS2 (with the infant insert). I find it comfortable as the padded waist belt puts the weight through my hips rather than my shoulders & back, and the zip pocket is big enough for a sandwich bag of wipes and a nappy or two so we can swan out for a bit with no faff.

But it doesn't fit DH. He finds it uncomfortable and gets too hot in it. He prefers the buggy.

You're best off trying a few. (But I really love my old ergo!)

We finally had a good night! DS2 finally slept at 8:30, I did a dream feed about 10:30 before I went to bed and then he woke at 1:50 but then slept on till 6:30! I wasn't expecting to get a long stretch in the second half of the night but very grateful! (Though woke up with massive leaky melons!). Grin

MrsElls · 23/05/2016 11:27

vroc I tried the ergo on in john Lewis and there just seemed so much material I couldn't imagine using it in the summer with a warm baby in it. I tried a connecta one at the sling library but the lady wasn't allowed to hire it out as it was over 5 years old. They are made by a husband and wife team and are always sold out on line so you pretty much have to get a second hand one. I took the plunge and after missing out on about 4 on eBay finally just paid top whack and won one yesterday. Not cheap at £73 + postage but it was in a pretty fabric I'm hoping I'll get it back when I sell it on again later. I'll let you know how I get on with it when it arrives!

vroc81 · 23/05/2016 15:14

Thanks swear Dom and Mrs E had been looking at all of those so think I might have to hold my horses and try some on at the sling library, annoyingly missed it this weekend so have to wait a month.. Might also try a John Lewis trip to try some on.. Mrs E do you mean this one? www.marksandspencer.com/baby-carrier/p/p22436946?prevPage=srp I have so many marks and Spencer's gift vouchers I could buy this outright and it sounds like it has good resale?

TheMshipIsBack · 23/05/2016 17:04

Funny the chat is carriers today. I got an Ergo yesterday, tried it through two naps today. T overheated during the second though it was 17 degrees and she was only wearing a vest and sleepsuit, and it took ages to get her comfortable again. She wasn't even in the insert as she's too big and has good head control. I'm returning it and will stick with my trusty Babyhawk.

DomesticAnarchist · 23/05/2016 17:20

I think this age is the worst for overheating in the ergos - there's more baby in the carrier, if you know what I mean! As they get bigger the area inside becomes less.

I think the 360 is vastly different to the standard one too.

Maybe the overheating issue is a good enough excuse for me to buy another one...? Maybe a Connecta, or manduca, or a boba or beco, or a tula, or maybe I really do need a meitai?! Better wait and see what payday brings...!

Swearwolf · 23/05/2016 17:26

Dom I think beco do a lightweight summer one, the butterfly perhaps?

MrsElls · 23/05/2016 17:51

Yes vroc that is the one, I thought you could only buy them from the connecta website. I could have foregone the pretty fabric and had a brand new one if I'd realised!

vroc81 · 23/05/2016 21:25

Sorry Mrs E just saw someone mention it on a Facebook page today and thought it would be a way to use up the gift card I got for Christmas 2014!

Purpleprickles · 23/05/2016 21:43

Just popping in to say hi and place mark. I'm borrowing a friend's baby bjorn at the moment but haven't used it the much. So can't really say too much about it.

Had a lovely busy weekend and now I have my parents arriving tomorrow which I'm really looking forward to.

DomesticAnarchist · 24/05/2016 04:08

You know when you're cuddling your sleeping baby and you get all misty-eyed and decide to just bask in the loveliness of it all for a bit... And then he wakes up every 5bastarding minutes, and needs changing every time too? I am a sleep deprived idiot.

And DH is snoring on me with terrible breath.

Only another... ten years (?) till I can have a lie-in.

Purpleprickles · 24/05/2016 04:11

Ah Dom sympathies for the regular wakings. I've just done the night feed and have dh snoring one side of me, the birds tweeting the dawn chorus the other and E snuffling like a pig at the end of the bed.

Paperblank · 24/05/2016 05:06

DH has just slept through M squeaking, sucking her hand (so blinking noisy!) and then howling because she wanted a bottle and I was mid nappy change.

I'm going away on a hen weekend at the end of June...I am worried that my baby will starve through the night!

Me624 · 24/05/2016 05:37

Paper my DH is the same, he sleeps through all sorts, but when he gave me a night off and I was in the spare room he said he woke at every tiny noise. The body somehow knows when it's in charge and when it's not and adjusts its sleep accordingly!

Poor DS was very unsettled yesterday evening. Having been fairly uninterested in his bottles all day Sunday and again yesterday, he screamed through his final feed before bed last night, and cried a bit during bath time too. I've never experienced him getting upset during a feed and he really was getting into a state, poor little thing. He doesn't have a temperature and doesn't seem to have a cold, he's not snotty or anything. It wasn't wind but I wonder if he may have a bit of tummy ache. However he still slept well and has had all of his first bottle this morning, so fingers crossed he's alright today. I do hate not knowing what's wrong Sad I spent all last night worrying about him and checked him loads during the night!

Sling wise we have a baby bjorn which I find very good and supportive for walks. If you want something to wear round the house a lot though then you probably need something softer.

QforCucumber · 24/05/2016 05:59

Reading all the sling recommendations and definitely think I'm going to look into hiring one, though ds is happy sat in his chair around the house.

dom you poor thing, sleep is overrated anyway Grin

me hopefully he's just being fussy as it's nothing more serous for you.

Ds has woken every 2 hours again tonight/last night. Also needed a full change at 3am as somehow while I was feeding him he peed out of his nappy and all over us both Hmm nuisance.

1frenchfoodie · 24/05/2016 06:22

paper , me better your DH sleeping through baby crying than you (if you are bf that is). I've always been a heavy sleeper and it takes me good few minutes of E crying to wake up according to DH. Though she did sleep 10-5 last night, woo hoo. We are just back from a 5 day caravan holiday and she seemed to go longer between night feeds each night. May have helped that it was nice and dark in the caravan. Feeling better rested than I have for ages - and not making the mistake ofthe early days when she would sleep from 10 and I'd go to bed a couple of hours later.

RhubarbAndMustard · 24/05/2016 07:04

Thank you for all the sling advice on here. I never got on with my Caboo but Me has reminded me that we also have a baby Bjorn so will get that out and give that a go. We've just bought a new car seat that isn't part of the travel system so a carrier would be useful when out and about. If anyone is after a car seat Mothercare have some half price.

Paperblank · 24/05/2016 09:00

We have a baby born. Typically M hates it - she loved it when we tried it out but now it is "the evil thing I must resist"

Contrary little madam Grin

Grin thanks all! 1french - opting to watch GoT and then cuddle DS2 was the mistake I made after the late feed yesterday! I should have just gone to sleep when he did!

I was cuddling him and it was so lovely, but then so frustrating when he kept waking up overnight! We're home from school run and snuggled up again now. I'm so conscious that time is flying by and this is the last time I'll have a 7-week-and-4-day old baby.

DomesticAnarchist · 24/05/2016 12:00

He's feeding hourly and sleeping in between. I think we're into growth spurt territory. Which explains a lot! Good job I'd planned a sofa day!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 24/05/2016 12:13

Sling wise, i love my Manduca carrier. It's a little bit of a faff to get DD2 in with the infant insert but the carrier itself is so comfortable, and its a soft structured carrier so can be used around the house. I have been using the caboo for naps in the house as its slightly easier to get DD2 into it, but i think she is starting to outgrow it as she slips down in it now and I think she may just be a bit too heavy for it.

DD2 had a pretty crappy night sleep, three wakes and both boobs at each wake - she's got a cold though so think that's what was wrong. She's had a mega nap this morning, i'm actually thinking I should wake her up as she's been asleep for over 2 hours! Luckily she went down in her bednest so I've been able to potter around the house doing whatever I want.

magpiedreams · 24/05/2016 13:48

dom we're with you on the hourly feeds today, not complaining though as just glued myself to the sofa. Feeling a bit lazy as the cleaner is here and she's basically going to have to clean around us Blush

Still 2 hourly feeds most nights here. Got a 3 hour stretch last night which felt amazing, and then I realised how sad it is that 3 hours is a treat!!

In other news my GP surgery won't let me book his jabs, they get sent out from a central office. So, since he's 8 weeks today I rang this central office who said they can't give me an idea when it will be sent out as its done by a computer but that I'll get at least 2 weeks notice. So he's not getting his first jabs until he's at least 10 weeks then Hmm

Ohwoolballs · 24/05/2016 14:16

morning afternoon all.
Any news from beaut and time ?

marmite just think of all the good milk going in, I always chow down when I'm feeling poorly :)

So today George has decided to only feed if we are both laying down on the sofa. I don't know why but he's screamed and kicked whenever I've tried to just hold him - a real piss take with nipple shields full of milk falling off. At least I just changed my undies this morning and put my comfy Jack Wills pants back on 😳 Feck jeggings today.

magpie and Dom we are part of the sofa crew today. There's no point going out unless I've got a planned hourly sofa break to lounge and feed, I'm pretty sure that is exhibitionist feeding!
