I think as long as your baby is eating and putting on weight then everything is ok. I have been really lucky with my aftercare, my community mw was great she is retiring in the summer which will be a huge loss, I wish they were all like her. She called every day for the first seven and then every two days until day 14.They also phoned me to see that things were ok, I had a urine and womb infection so that is probably why. My HV is nice but she talks alot mainly about herself which is hard work when you havent had much sleep she will call once a week until week 6 I think.Dd2 is really snuffly and unwell poor hting, she hasnt had a temperature but she has found it difficult to bf as she cant breathe through her nose so she has been gulping like crazy poor thing.

trixymalixy · 29/01/2007 08:05

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this thread.

This being a Mum business isn't that easy is it!!

Have just had another night of absolutely no sleep. Partly due to the trauma of my first poo (was so much worse than I thought it would be), then wee Ben doing his usual and wanting to feed every half hour. He finally went to sleep at 6, but I have been blowing into a paper bag for the past couple of hours, as had a major panic attack set off by DH making a fuss about putting the cat net back on the cot. I guess that's the baby blues setting in then.

Have been reading through all the posts and it has helped that we all seem to be going through it and it is pretty normal to be having a sh*t time!!

trixymalixy · 29/01/2007 08:10

Also panicking about the midwife visit today as my blood pressure has been borderline, have a stinking headache and know that my bp will have rocketed through getting so stressed out. Had a massive blood clot on my pad after my traumatic poo as well.

Am really panicking that i'll end up back in hospital because of it.

theUrbanDryad · 29/01/2007 08:22

trixy - so sorry you're having a bad time. rest assured, i, too, am shitting broken glass at the moment. some senokot is good as it, erm, loosens everything up and makes it so much easier. did you have stiches?
let us know how it goes with the mw - and rest assured it does get easier (i'm told!!) x x x

OP posts:
trixymalixy · 29/01/2007 08:33

Yes I did have stitches.

Thanks for the tip about Senokot, will get DH to buy me some today along with one of those femme ice pack things!!

trixymalixy · 29/01/2007 08:35

Am going to try and get some sleep now before DS decides to start howling again!

ellieandhattie · 29/01/2007 09:10

trixy hope you are fast asleep at the mo and i can promise everything does get better just take one day at a time, hope all goes okay with midwife.

I am a mum of one on mondays now as my mum is having one of the girls every monday so I get to spend some quality time with the other one, so for th 1st time I have let her have Hattie first time I have let her go and feels very strange but Ellie loving having me to herslef (only been 9 minutes!!) we have got to go to drs for her eczema at 10 and then we are going to go to
the new park and then going out for lunch and Hattie not coming home till 4!! Next monday Ellie going to my mums and she has promised they are cake making

RGee · 29/01/2007 09:42

Dragonheart - my lo is 4 weeks old now (4 weeks OMG!!) and only now at her birth weight of 6lb 15. She is still not discharged but the mw and hv don't seem concerned (given they keep cancelling appointments and moaning about being short staffed).
Trixy & Wilkie - hope all is ok with both of you.
EllieandHattie - cakes next Monday sounds lovely!! nom nom!!

theUrbanDryad · 29/01/2007 12:20

well zac has just had his first taste of a bottle - i expressed 2oz last night and gave it to him this morning and he guzzled it down!! not sure i'll do it very often as it's stressful waiting for the bottle to warm while he's yelling his head off, but it's good to know that the option's there if i ever do decide to get a social life!!

Hello everyone, can I join? I have a 10 day old daughter and a 13month old son. Things going ok though am starting to dread DH going back to work next week, cannot imagine how i'll manage them both esp as my LO seems to pretty much feed constantly for 4 to 5 hr bursts

Is anyone else finding it tough to balance attention to other siblings and breastfeeding?

Have read through the thread and am havig similar experiences to many of you with the baby sleeping o our chests at night (anything for 2 hrs consecutive sleep , trying to get her to use a dummy to buy 15mins to do other stuff etc.

Found the second birth and recovery so much better than first time round, next hurdle is getting to grips with managing them both myself next week!

theUrbanDryad · 29/01/2007 13:33

hey - welcome Leax! i'm afraid i can't offer much advice on dealing with 2 smalls, as i'm only on number 1 myself, but i know quite a lot of mums on this thread are on number 2, 3, 4 or even 5! (yes, i mean you magnolia!!) it must be so hard with 2 so close together, are you still bf-ing your ds?

anyway, hope you are enjoying your new baby (cause endless feeding and nappies are SO much fun! ) and that we'll be hearing from you lots! x x x x x

Rhydian is 2 weeks old today. He was 8lb 6oz at birth, was 7lb 12ozs for the first week - didn't put on a single ounce! He was weighed yesterday and is now 8lb 1oz - another 5 oz to go yill he's back to his birth weight. MW and HV not worried at all.

Lizzzombie · 29/01/2007 16:01

Wow - LO is 9 days old today and I actually left the flat for the first time since having him. Can't believe there is a whole world out there still. Most strange! So pleased to be out of trackkie bums and back into jeans again though. Unfortunately first appointment was to the drs.
OK WAY TMI COMING UP...(sorry, have to share with the group as am traumatised!)
My episiotomy (sp?) stitches are f*ked. MW told me to familiarise myself with what I look like down there, took a while, all looks normal now, apart from f*k off big wound where all the stitches are coming out. Dr said it would heal fine in a couple of weeks and I was fine to walk around with it etc...but man, I have an open wound between my legs! Its totally gross to even think about. Ugh. Not happy.
Also, sore nipples are now ridiculously sore, what happens when they bleed? Can you feed the baby still? With blood mixed in with the milk? This is all so carnal and basic. I thought the gory bit was all over now. (hand to forehead - swooning emotion!)

Saltcod, I had exactly the same problem as you, except it was my left boob that was agony!!! lansinoh is grea plus bathing the nipples in a bath if you get time. I put hot cloths over each boob it was very soothing. My boobs are toughened up now!!! Dd2 still feeds for ages.

RGee · 30/01/2007 10:16

Why do my boobs still hurt? 4 weeks in, still utterly painful for the first 10 seconds of feeding - mw says position is fine and I will toughen up. But it's been so long now. I have flat nips (TMI!)and she has a hard suck - I think my left areola is actually bruised as you can see where she has sucked.

Leax · 30/01/2007 12:55

Thanks TheUrbanDryad
Lizzieombie, on my first i had an episiotomy and the obs sewed the underlying tissues but left it open to heal as due to long pushing stage i was very swollen in the area. When i plucked up the courage to whip out a mirror and have a look i nearly passed out, TMI but i seemed to be open from one opening to the other. Thought i'd never be right again but by about 4 or 5 weeks all was closed up and fine, so hang in there. Re the sore nips try expressing a bit of milk on to them after a feed and letting it dry in for a while before using the lansinoh.

JodieG1 · 30/01/2007 16:37

Midwife came out today instead of yesterday and weighed Ethan, he now weighs 9lb 8oz! meaning he's put on almost a pound in a week. He was 8lb 2 at birth and then 8lb 10 at 11 days old and today he's 19 days old. He loves his milk though so I'm not surprised at his weight gain, he feeds really well and I'm so pleased that breastfeeding is working out for us

I'm feeling amazingly good at the moment and hoping it lasts! A little tired but that's to be expected anyway.

Rgee I still get a painful letdown which means it hurts when he starts sucking but soon stops after a few seconds. I had this last time too and I think it stopped happening after a good few weeks. I think it's down to having a strong letdown though as I have that and it spurts out each time loads.

wilkie50 · 30/01/2007 19:21

Hello girls. Just adding a quick post as my mum is stopping for the week so I haven't really been checking MN.

HV came yesterday and J is now 7lb 13oz at 17 days old (birth weight 7lb) so she is really pleased with his progress. He is taking 4oz every 3-4 hrs. STILL not settling between the 3pm-6pm feed but have borrowed my BF's crib which helped a bit last night although I did take him through to mum at 4.30am and she had him until 8am! God bless my mum

Glad to see everyone getting on OK. I'm feeling bit better, not so teary, just a bit spaced out if i'm honest - can't concentrate at all - think it is post-pg fog

Sorry if TMI - though I had just about stopped bleeding then yesterday was putting some washing in and felt something 'come out' of me so went to loo and there was what looked like a bit of liver (SORRY!!) on my pad and bright red blood dripping. The bleeding wasn't heavy and has just about stopped but found this a bit bizarre after 16 days. Anyone else have this experience????

OonaghBhuna · 30/01/2007 19:51

Wilkie, speak with your doctor or midwife, i had soemthing similar after 19 days and, it was a womb infection,i had to take antibiotics but I would recommend that you speak with someone tomorrow if you havent already done so.

2Happy · 30/01/2007 20:06

RGee has your mw considered boob thrush?

laughalot · 30/01/2007 20:28

Hi wilkie I had the same thing a couple of days ago apparently it was a bit of the membrane that had been left behind I panicked too, so my midwife told me to keep the clot in cling film for her to have a look I know it sounds yuck but at least she could tell me what it was. I am sorry to hear you have been a bit tearfull I was terrible in my first pg as its such a culture shock having a newborn but I did have another and I still have had tears this time but not as much all I can say is it gets easier I promise.

Hattie2 · 31/01/2007 08:51

Hi all - isn't MN great? Just had a 'liver' experience myself Wilkie and rather than call MW thought I'd check here if it had happened to anyone else and now I know!

DS is doing very well - now 11 lb at 15 days old. DD was 10 weeks old before she got to this weight. Problem we have now is sleeping arrangements, I was assuming DS would be OK in the moses basket in our room until 3 months or so when he would move out to his own room. Problem is that he is almost too big for the basket already and looks so much more comfortable in his big cot when I put him in there during the day. The cot will fit in our room (just) but it will be a squeeze but don't really want him in his own room yet. Does anyone else have their LO in their own room already??

trixymalixy · 31/01/2007 10:25

Hi everyone,

I'm feeling miles better than I did. Had another anxiety attack the night before last as I saw a green flash just as we were going to bed and thought I was having visual disturbances which is bad as my blood pressure is a bit high. Turns out it was the new CO detector that my DH had bought showing us it was still working!!! It got slung out of the room asap!! Can laugh about it now, but that was me panicked for the rest of the night and had another sleepless night although Ben only woke once.

Thankfully I managed to get a good 6 hours or so last night which seems like loads given that we worked out that the last time I had a good sleep was the 21st!!

The labour bit was easy compared to the sleep deprivation!

trixymalixy · 31/01/2007 10:26

BTW there's a photo of ben on my profile if anyone wants a nosey!
