the laughing is so wonderful, I agree, and I spend hours trying to make him do it, only for him to chortle at something ridiculous!

Weaning - I can't believe that about sandwiches and pasta.... I think I'll start with DS2 at 5 months, because he's already trying to get hold of my food, and gets really really grumpy when we're eating and he's not...

munki - I am braless at night so wouldn;t make any difference to me! Took ds to hv today and she said just ignore him and let himself settle back to sleep. Easier said than done at 1am 3am 4am etc etc... Have you got any ideas for a solution? Iam desperate here - so tired and not enjoying my days at all as a result.

compo · 11/01/2007 14:00

wow, Tassis your health visitor would certainly get ripped to shreads on the weaning boards
I too am going to try and get to 5 months and then wean. Dh has booked a surprise night in a hotel around Valentines Day and the inlaws are looking after the kids so I thought I'd wait until after that as I don't want to complicate things by asking MIL to faff around with purees etc.
We had 4 month immunisations today - 3 big needles, poor dd! At least it's all over until boosters at one year now. It was so windy getting there I was glad to come home.
Hope Cruisemum and Munkibaby have more restful evenings/nights tonight

Coriander73 · 11/01/2007 14:21

cruisemum, Jack has had one bottle of FF since 8 weeks, the rest breastmilk. Yesterday, for various reasons, I gave him a bottle at lunch too so I only give him 4 feeds a day now. Felt a bit sad to be honest but also think it's the right thing to do. He's nearly 17 weeks & like clairemow I think I'll be starting solids when he's 5 months as 7oz / 8oz of formula just doesn't seem to totally statisfy him!

Also re centiles etc, Jack has dropped below the 50th for the past 3 weigh ins. HV said it's very normal for them to start to slow down their weight gain & not to worry unless they start to not eat & / or seem off colour etc.

Myrtle1 · 11/01/2007 16:09

Cruise, DS was 16 weeks yesterday. I think these restless nights might be catching as for the last 3 nights DS has been going less time between feeds. Last night he was managing about 3.5 hours between feeds. I'm still exclusively bf but planning to drop the mid morning feed this w/e as going back to work soonish. I'm thinking about weaning at around 5 months too.
We went to baby yoga today which was good. There is this one move that DS loves where I lie him tummy downward on my shins while holding his sides and then with my legs in the air I move my legs backwards and forwards as though he is flying. He always giggles when we do it

kseaj · 11/01/2007 17:15

Ds has been to the hostpital the Dr could not hear a mummer today his blood pressure was low but this could of been because he was very relaxed. We have to take him back in march if they can not hear a mummer then we dont have to go back again.

He has also been weighed and is 15lb and 61cms he was 15 weeks yesterday.

Cruise and munki sorry to hear the sleeping at night is no better hope it improves soon.

kseaj · 11/01/2007 17:31

also forgot to ask but do any of you little ones sleep alot (cruise, munki sorry to ask this) a few people have said that they think ds sleeps to much.

He goes to bed anytime between 9-10 and sleeps all the way through i wake him at 7.45 on weekend he wakes at 9.
After i wake him he stays awake untll the schoolrun then sleeps 8.40- 10-00.
He then has a feed at about 12.30 after that he naps on and off all afternoon he naps about 1/2hr or longer each time.
he does however stay awake from about 6.30 untill he goes bed.

I think that he is just v. content.
I was going to ask about this today and the forgot about it.

kseaj, that's brilliant news about the murmur, fingers crossed by March it's silent again.

Re. the sleeping, some babies need more sleep than others. It sounds like your LO sleeps around 11 hours at night, with about 3 hours nap in the day? That sounds pretty perfect to me.... It sounds pretty similar to Fraser's little routine, just at different times of day. If your DS is happy, contented, smiley etc. then ignore everyone else, and just enjoy having a baby who's happy to sleep!

Cruise and Munki, I'm crossing my fingers for you tonight. x

ksaej - great news

cruise and munki - I really hope tonight's better for you both

pistachio - our dds sound pretty similar wee things size wise and it's good to be reassured re centile lines. i'd been planning to wait until 6 months but i'm going to see how I feel in a month... How've her naps been? any better?

MunkiBaby · 11/01/2007 23:41

just a quickie note to say that: so far, so good. oh lordy, i hope i havent jinxed it!

i read up on controlled crying and i felt it was worth a try. so i bathed ds at 8, gave him a quick massage and a feed and he was out like a light...but then, when i put him down in the cot he was having none of it. so i let him cry, etc...i think for an hour total. at around 10:05, i went back in while he was screaming and put him on his side (something i have noticed in him in the past) and he finally gave in and dropped off.

i had a bath waiting for me and i was able to soak for about 20 minutes and as soon as i puled the plug, the boy started screaming again. i didnt let him scream to sleep this time, as it was near feeding time..so i fed, and he has been asleep in his cot since! woot woot woot! finally had some time with the hubby

im off to bed now ((hey, i thought i said this was going to be just a quick note....its now a novel! gaww!))

cruise, im hoping you have a better night, and i'm hoping my LO only wakes for normal feeds tonight as well!

oh, and kseaj...i'm very happy to hear that your LO is sleeping so much. and its like clairemow said, all have different needs. and its hope that perhaps someday, all our LO's will become contented little sleepers at some point.

cruisemum1 · 12/01/2007 08:48

Munki glad you managed some time to yourself last night . Maybe lo is getting the message! It is hard though - doing the cc thing...[sadI am not brave enough.
Thanks to all for their support.....
Well! last night I gave did the feed/ bath/ bedtime routine as usual, put him to bed at 7pm - as usual. he woke around 2 hrs later, as usual, and again shortly after that, as usual and then nothing. He stirred a couple of times during the night and grizzled/shuffled about but settled himself!- then not a peep until 5.10am this morning! I feed him, put him back in his cot and nothing till 7am! I, on the other hand, woke hourly in anticipation of another sleepless night but I am sooooo happy that I know he can do it like he was before . I think he has had a sore throat as a spin off of his cold as he is quite hoarse and still snuffly. Now the advice I have read is not to feed him during that 'core sleep' again. Whadya reckon??? Very happy mummy today!

MunkiBaby · 12/01/2007 09:07

wow!~ what a coincidence! Cruise, after last nights posting, he woke up crying because of 'windy pops' at around 1am so i helped him with that and he fell back to sleep in his cot, only waking again at 5am for a feed...and yes, back to sleep in his cot!! woot woot! he woke again around 7am for a feed except i left him in the bed after that feed. ((mommmy wanted a little cuddle time while we were sleeping)) and he's still asleep! wahey! ((will need to wake him soon as i have a doc appointment at 1030...shame really, i bet he'd sleep until then, too))

cruise, here's to (hopefully) our lo's getting back to 'normal'. oh and as far as the CC thing... i dont think i fully did the proper methods for it. after reading up, its very ... harsh. i dont think i'd have the strength to let him cry for 40 minutes in between checking in, etc. so i managed to do the 'Crying Down' method instead. its the same tactic, but checking in/reassuring him every 5-10 minutes instead of the long periods. ((sorry if you all already know of this, only just discovered it on a web page last night, myself. ) The page also suggests that controlled crying is best left for babies over 6 months old... whether its true or not, i'll stick to that reason for my own sanity.

hi all
tassis - very strange what yuour HV said about weaning - particularly about the colours - Although i read somewhere about introducing as many new foods during the 1st few weeks as possible to stop them becoming picky. Apparantly my hv told my neighbour to wean her ds at 16 weeks as he was a big baby and exclusively bf. Her reasons were that the WHO advice covers the whole world, so example in third world countries where there's more likely to be unsanitary conditions you would bf for longer and this isn t relevant to the UK! I am sure she would get slated on the weaning boards as well.
DS2 has his injections later so i will discuss it with her then, but i don't think he's ready yet.
kseaj- fab news about the murmer. I wouldn't worry about the sleeping thing, if he sleptall day then was awake all night then that would be different. some babies just need more sleep. Someone once commented to me about DS1 having 2 naps a day when he was a year old, but he still slept better at night than her kids did! I think it was claire who said, good daytime sleep = good night time sleep, and I have to agree!

MunkiBaby · 12/01/2007 14:24

awwww! pistachio! your little girl is gorgeous. i have to say, the photo of her all bundled up, the super close up shot, would be great enlarged and put on a wall. great photo!

Hi everyone. Hope you are all having a good day. Still very windy here.
Can I ask formula feeders how many ozs their lo's are having at the moment. Dd is 4 months on Sunday and is sometimes having 40 ounces in one day. She seems fine so I'm not too worried but I supposed I'm a bit concerned she's getting too much (even typing it I can see it sounds ridiculous!!)

ezridax · 12/01/2007 17:04

Hi all not posted in a long while but have been reading your posts. Just wanted to know have any of you registered your child with a school to attened their nursery yet?
Am I thinking too far ahead?

bristols · 12/01/2007 17:53

Compo - Have just switched DS onto FF from BF. My milk supply was really dropping off and DS just not getting enough food. He's 19 weeks on Sunday. Now exclusively having FF. Worked out last night that he has about 35oz in 24 hours. I thought that having FF all day would mean a good night but unfortunately not... Have dusted off my book by you-know-who and am going to have a go at her routine starting tomorrow. I thought that my LO was having a lot of formula but its good to know yours is pretty much the same! He's still having feeds at 11pm and 3am before waking at 8am. Ugh. Am hoping to feel more energised now I'm not BF.

Its a fair point that the WHO guidelines do have to cover the whole world. I think that HVs should all give the same advice, though. Having a baby is confusing enough But then I suppose they have to give individualised care. I'm still going to wait as long as I can before weaning. Apart from anything else, the thought of it terrifies me! It all sounds so complicated. What to introduce and when etc etc. Has anyone bought a book yet? Any recommendations?

Better go, bathtime looms. DH out on a stag do tonight so will have two sickly boys to look after tomorrow. Oh joy!

MunkiBaby · 12/01/2007 18:01

hiya ezridax... funny you should ask. i was looking around at the local cachement area... was searching for the same info but came up with zero info on the subject so its a good question to post...

can any of you bare a little light or advice on the subject?

tassis · 12/01/2007 18:16

need to go help dh, but bristols i used annabel karmel last time and I liked her

didn't do it by the book but found a lot of good ideas and recipes in there

liquidclocks · 12/01/2007 18:37

Compo - DS2 is having around 35oz per day at 3 and ahlf months so 40oz doesn't sound too extreme!

Mabel - I've heard that too about the weaning but will go with the one at a time approach with DS2 following allergic reactions with DS1, a bit safer I think!

Ezridax - Hi! hope you're managing ok. Re schools in our area we're not allowed to put their names down until they're 3 but what you could do is ring your local primary school reception and ask what heir policy is. I know in some areas it is still a case of get their names down as soon as they arrive.

I'm shattered - LO's doing well but being back at work this week and playing catch up since wednesday has wiped me out. Find I'm getting really annoyed with DS1 and no patience with DS2. Hope it gets easier as I get into the swing of it. Applied for a new job this week so guess I'll be stressed out until I find out what's going on with that too! Don't make it easy for myself do i?! Also my present boss wants me back to finish my masters... where does it end???

cruisemum1 · 12/01/2007 19:02

~Bristols - does your milk supply drop off at a certain stage? My ds ,18 weeks, is still exclusively bf but I was considering introducing ff gradually. Trouble is it breaks my heart to stop
