Bristols and Fairy, I think I will try a bit of baby massage later and look for those books - thanks Bristols
Baby yoga is fab and DS is always completely tired out on a Thursday afternoon after we've been to yoga. We do quite simple things like cycling their legs, rotating hips and baby flying where we put them on our shins If anyone is near York, there is a great class here.
Hope you all had good nights.
DS is waking once a night now, which I can cope with but I'm still envious of all the LOs that sleep through

cruisemum1 · 19/01/2007 08:48

what is happening here?! ds went to bed at 7:30pm and then woke at the followig times:
8:45pm - 9pm
9:15pm - 9:30pm
9:45pm - 10pm
10:35 - 12:15am!!
2.20am - 3:15am
3:50am to 5:00am after which I jsut kept him in bed wiht me
Pleaaaaassssseee tell me this is a growth spurt! He was attached to my boob virtually the whole night long.
I had thought I was doing well again after his cold etc but nooooooo!!!
I am mystified since he was dong 9 hrs at 9 weeks. What has happened to my perfect sleeper?

kseaj · 19/01/2007 10:35

morning everyone

cruise sorry to hear about the bad night, just when it sounded like you had it sorted, hopefully it was just a one of and tonight will be back to normal, you must feel very tired today, are you able to get a nap in during the day when ds sleeps.

We had a much better day here yesterday, dd is still off school though but she is much better, i am just deciding if i should go food shopping with them all, i never take all 3 food shopping on my own so this could be a challenge.

MunkiBaby · 19/01/2007 10:38

cruise ~ last night, ds slept with me as he was feeling pretty unwell. and oh lordy!!! it sounds like we had a very ve similar waking/feeding pattern. my nipples are sore from all the feeding! im feeling like a professional dairy cow! tonight, he's going back into his cot at 830! now that i think about it, i gave him calpol the other night before bed...i'll be totally sad if thats the only reason we had such a good sleep night.

my ds luvs his massage. i do use grapeseed oil as well, as the HV recommends it.
Fairy, my hv is licensed to do baby massage and she has said that rubbing the tummy clockwise keeps the food down instead of anti. strange that were getting 2 different bits of info.

again, cruise, im sorry that our lo's are wreaking havoc on boobs and sleep. you are not alone!!!

MunkiBaby · 19/01/2007 10:41

fairy, oops! my mistake! i misread what you were typing about the tummy massage....
anticlockwise to aid in pooing....and as my hv says, clockwise (if baby has recently been fed) to avoid bringing it back up...

does that make sense?

JingleBelle · 19/01/2007 12:29

Coriander, thanks for your kind words. I have now decided that DS is just getting lots of foremilk and only a little hindmilk from me, so am not going to beat myself up, but rather give him formula so I can enjoy him being happy. Am still feeding him a couple of times a day myself when I am v. full .
Lol at Asbos! Waitrose just happens to be the only supermarket in our little high street, so it's where I go when I just have a few things to collect.
Hurrah, DS has gone down for second nap of day (after much fussing)! Right, must get some lunch.
Cruise and Munki, sorry to hear of your troubled nights, hope it was a one off - perhaps they are unsettled from achy gums or something. My LO has not got red cheeks, but seems to have all other symptoms of teething - am sending off for Chamomille (sp?) homeopathic remedy today - all normal teething granules contain lactose which is no good for DS!
V. impressed at all of you getting out to Baby Massage and Baby Yoga. Is supposed to be my NY resolution to get out more to groups with DS. Well done you guys!

liquidclocks · 19/01/2007 12:59

[whispers] - err I shop at asda... (that's wal-mart to you marls )

... mind you, my alternative choices are 1) over priced 'local' sainsburys, 2)Booths (lovely food but SO expensive) 3) drive 40 miles to tescos!

...do I get let off? (managing to feed a family of 4 on £30 a week help my case... ) - I do go after 9pm to avoid other peoples children

Marls - so sorry to hear you've got a reflux problem too, the enfamil AR lipil we're on is helping here and the sma staydown stuff I bought in an emergency seems to work too. Hope Jameson's feeling better soon.

We've moved from eczema being a mild problem to probably around 'medium'. DS2 looks like he's weraing a red 'mask' and he's making it bleed. It's also spread to his chest poor thing. If it doesn't improve by next week (got some new stuff for bath tonight) I'm going back to HV to ask for milk allergy testing.

Is anyone else's LO on dairy-free?

compo · 19/01/2007 13:25

LiquidClocks - we go to Asda too, when you're skint you don't have much choice!! I would love to go to Waitrose or M&S...
Where do you live again? I used to live in the Lakes and we had a Booths up there.
Hope everyone is having a good day xxx

Coriander73 · 19/01/2007 15:17

Let off you are Liquid!!! lol!!! I'm sure we'd all love to shop at Waitrose...I'm a liability if I go in there as I always come out with 5 items & a £50 bill later!! So, no it's in a blue moon, normally when I'm feeling depressed & want to buy some nice treats for tea!! I rather like Morrisons but I have to say they are much much nicer (in terms of store layout & friendly staff) up in Staffs (where in-laws live) than down where we live (Suffolk). I boycotted Tesco for over a year but have reluctanly started shopping there again.... Still once I'm part time, I'm sure I'll really have to watch what I'm spending...poor but happy?! As Gabrielle once said in DH, I tried poor & happy but you know what I wasn't so happy!!!!!!

MunkiBaby · 19/01/2007 15:30

I usually have my groceries delivered from tesco ((no car and hubby asbo-lutely LOATHES going to the grocery store!)) but lately they've been messing up my orders (forgetting stuff and when they sub items, they dont price match)) but ive started to get them delivered from asda, and they DO price match and havent forgotten any of my items yet...so it isnt too bad a place.

anyways, sorry i know it isnt a grocery shopping thresd so i'll stop talking about it now. heheheh

well, i've managed to put ds down at 11am and again at 2:45. he's still asleep! he seems to have been so overly ready for a routine. bad mommy! just kidding.

mabel1973 · 19/01/2007 17:15

waitrose Jingle - you ARE posh!
I remember Booths from a short spell living in kendal!

Thanks for the baby massage tips, might give that a go after bath time.

Well I am completely confused, DS slept il 5.30am this morning, about an hour and a half longer than he has for the last few nights, and because he's be waking early, i've been going to bed early and DH has been doing the last feed, so I asked DH this monring how much he'd guzzled at the last feed....the answer was ' sh@t I forgot to feed him!!!!!'
So you can draw your own conclusions from that! (including the fact that my DH is an irresponsible parent)

MunkiBaby · 19/01/2007 17:28

mabel, a kwik note about the massage...
warm rooom, big towel, completely neked baby, oh and most important is to give the LO a drink right afterwards. because of the increased blood circulation....wait, im having a blonde moment...dang it . i forget why, but just do, its a good thing.

fairysnuff · 19/01/2007 18:25

You are absolutely right munki, sorry I don't know my right from my left, nevermind my anti clockwise from clockwise.

It should be clockwise, her right hip, to left hip.
So sorry for being a right dummy.
Hope everyone reads this and does not make there LO's bring up their dinner!!

Hadn't heard of feeding them after? My HV didn't tell us that. Though I normally do, as it happens, gosh thats lucky. She gets her massage instead of a bath sometimes so gets her last feed after.

co-op for me! Tesco is 20 miles away so a treat when we go. Just back actually! yeah new clothes for DD, as if she needs them!! sshh don't tell DH

mabel1973 · 19/01/2007 18:41

munki - did a v brief massage, it was a bit chilly in ds room, but he enjoyed it.

just wondering what damage eveyone was left with after the winds yesterday. we have 2 fence panels down, it needed replacing anyway, but hoping we may be able to claim on the insurance. We have a huge poplar tree in our garden, they are notoriously brittle and i was watching it swaying and getting v. worried. Dh saw a tree come down on someones car - they were in it, but got out ok - how scarey is that ... a minute earlier it could have been dh....

clairemow · 19/01/2007 19:55

Mabel, maybe LO is telling you not to bother! I wonder when we'll drop our late feed....

I've started on the baby rice... F's almost 5 months, and he was getting really hungry, downing lots of huge bottles, waking earlier, and being really interested and agitated whenever we ate in front of him... We have no family history of either allergies or stomach problems so we've gone for it, but will do it slowly. He's taken to it really well, and today was opening his mouth for the spoon like a little bird!

Re shopping, we have a Sainsburys nearby and a Waitrose - I go to Waitrose when I want something posh or different, and they stock all the stuff for reusable nappies like liners as well as biodegradable disposables and nappy bags. But I can bet on spending at least £15 per carrier bag, whatever is in it... . That's why I need to go back to work in March, to fund my Waitrose "habit"... Plus, DS2 likes to coo at all the old ladies with blue rinses who smile at him and go aaahhh.

OP posts:
Coriander73 · 19/01/2007 20:17

lol clairemow about funding your waitrose habit!!! Totally understand..!!! We have one near work too & a close colleague (who is a great friend actually) & I pop in & test each other to see if we can actually get out for under £20!! - like you say it's normally £15-20 a bag (& some bags only have 4-5 items!!!).....

Am sure Jack is heading to solids quicker than his sister! He's 18 weeks tomorrow & is downing his bottles & crying for more. BF going OK..think he enjoys the cuddles rather than feeding at times although I am beginning to wonder if I'm slowly losing milk supply! Still OK at night though so hope to hold out until past the 5 months stage at least. The only thing with solids it's such a faff to go out & about isn't it?

Coriander73 · 19/01/2007 20:18

Mabel, we had two fence panels down as well! DH's 3 surfboards (why 3 I don't know...he's never explanined it either!) went flying also..ended up in three different hedges in the garden!!

fairysnuff · 19/01/2007 20:59

Bleedin eck?
Our weather up here yesterday was lovely! Like a fresh spring morning!
Was it just yesterday that you were all getting this bad weather?

Imagine seeing a surf board flying towards you in high winds! Scary!
You must live in the country, corriander. Or have high fences.
But mybe my imagination is getting away from me

Just have to share, DD has been fab today. She got her 3 jabs yesterday and I really thought today would be hard, but instead she has done nothing but smile! Strange child?
Thats her down for now, hopefully I won't hear from here again, but we shall see. I just know it's too good to be true. No burps, not good.

clairemow · 19/01/2007 21:03

oh yes, we had two fences down too. and our garden has a hill at the back for shelter! We don't live in the countryside either! But the wind was so strong it woke me up Weds night. Our BBQ (don't ask what it's still doing outside in January...) blew across the patio!

I was hoping to get beyond 5 months for weaning too. But hey. I took stuff out today for him, but it was just rice and I added some of his formula once he'd drunk most of it and it was actually really easy. This evening I cooked up a pear and mashed it for tomorrow. I remember last time it was a pain in the ar*e, but maybe this time I'm just better at multi tasking....

OP posts:
kseaj · 19/01/2007 22:09

Evening all,

The wind blew off the gate (wood) at the side of the house, dh was out there with his hammer when he came home, it also knocked the electricity off 3 times.
The wind has started up again tonight it is v. windy.

Ds has been better these last few days so iam going to wait on the weaning.

Fairysnuff ds had his 3rd jabs on wednesday, he has also been fine did not cry has much this time either.

Cruise & Munki hope you both have better nights tonight.

liquidclocks · 20/01/2007 19:37

4 Fence panels
3 Fence posts
...and our watering can (either that or the neighbour's nicked it! )

We live halfway up a big hill on the side facing the sea (2 miles away) so we get the brunt of it - thankfully no flooding risk though - it's all drain into the cellar!

Mabel - perhaps it's a sign that he can go longer but is just in the habit of waking up and expecting food? - good luck tonight. (and don't worry too much about your DH, he sounds like a normal bloke - DH forgat to give DS lunch a few months ago - only remembered at tea time!!!)

We get a booths as we're in Lancaster - near the lake district. They just concentrate on 'local' (northern) fresh produce and delicious yummy stuff you can't get anywhere else. If anyone's ever up this way you;ve got to try the morecambe bay shrimps (hot!) on toast - yum yum yum!

...hungry now...

Claire - I'm sure weaning is the right thing, he sounds like a big baby and probably needs the extra calories for now - hope the pear goes down well after your effort making it - that's the most infuriating part of weaning - when they reject your lovingly made mush!

Hope everyone's ok especially people we've not heard from in a while - any news from Pol and the house move?

Myrtle1 · 20/01/2007 20:39

Most of the glass popped out of our greenhouse in the winds but only one pane shattered so it wasn't too bad I suppose.
Last night DS fed at 10:30pm then slept til 5:15am which is a record for us then he fed and went back to sleep til 8:30 I feel really tired today though which is very strange.
I recently bought an Annabel Karmel book off ebay in preparation for weaning. I really feel quite daunted by the prospect and have no idea how to go about it at all.

Marls001 · 21/01/2007 01:23

Heard about your winds; all over the news here the other day. Winds from hurricans & tornados level houses here; whew it was just fences panes

Mable - late congrats on the car! We've been meaning to drop late feeding at night; Dr. says confuses J. to wake him from sound sleep to feed at 10 ... ... not sure quite how to do it, but seems your DH got y'all off to a good start

Wow Kseaj - kudos to you for shopping with 3 if you do ... have seen Moms here with FOUR, so it may be doable

Fairysnuff & Munki - Thanks for info on massage! Have tried it with J. & he LOVES it!

Liquid - it's uncool to say, of course, but I have absolutely loved shopping at W-M here ... had never been in one before moving here; they're not in urban areas. The ones here are clean and well-stocked (management's watching ) ... when we move back I'll miss making lists like "milk, eggs, socks, Grey's Anatomy CD ..." I think it's very convenient & efficient.

Our "posh" grocery in Houston is Central Market ; have definitely missed it. But enjoying not watching my monthly grocery budget soar! Plus without their ready-made meals - we can't even order Chinese here - have learned to cook

So sorry to hear about the excema. DS1 suffered fom it too - but not as badly as your LO. We used Elidel (1% pimecrolimus) cream & it worked wonderfully.

Jameson now 14 lbs 10 oz ... up 8 oz from Tues to Fri ... Dr. said at this point he watches for his charges to be gaining 1 oz per day!

ezridax · 21/01/2007 13:54

Don't know if i should post here any more being an ASDA shopper .
We've got an ASDA Wal mart close by and i LOVE it I love George clothes and especially their shoes. Granted the smaller one that is closer is a bit ... (can't think of good word for it) crap. But before the big one was built it served a purpose.

I'm glad every1 is ok and all the LO's are growing fast.

I registered my LO for a school last wk, well the nursery. It's RC school and we aren't RC so we're like 8th (last) on the list of entry 'requirements' (not the right word but hey)- we're OTHER. LOL!
They said it was totally over subscribed last year so i've been told that i sould register him at other schools, so i'll have to get on that.
Did any1 watch perfect parents on itv?
Who know's if we will still live here come school age - i hope not!

Re baby massage, i've been meaning to go for a long while now but i'm quite nervous about getting out and about with him and meeting other parents. I guess that's why mumsnet is soo good for people like me.
Listening to all of your posts i'm going to make a concerted effort to go as he will benefit from it.
Have a good week all

mabel1973 · 21/01/2007 13:54

HI all

Claire - glad to hear you took the plunge with the rice. DS is 18 weeks and I am mulling over whether to start weaning or not. The formula has been dropped really, not through any decision i made, maybe he is trying to drop that feed, but i would've thought he'd have to start weaning before he was ready. last night we came back from friends quite late and I hadn't made a bottle up so fed him myself, he went through til 4.45am (yawn!), i think i have unwittingly increased my milk supply over the last few days, not a bad thing I suppose, i'll need to start expresing to mix with rice if we decide to start weaning.

We have all got stinking colds, DS1 atrted on thursday, now I have it and DS2 ...poor little thing.

Well the deal with the car we were going to buy has fallen through, i am quite annoyed about it, DH's 'mate' who we were buying it off texted on fri night to say the MOT had ran out, and we could either buy it for the agreed price without an MOT , or he'd sort the MOT and any work that needed doing, if we gave him the cash to cover the cost! As far as we were aware we were buying a car with an MOT anyway, so thought it was rather cheeky to ask us to pay to get it through it's MOT, so basically told him we can't afford it - it's an old car, who knows what may be wrong with it. One of Dh's friends who works for a car 'supermarket' is going to look for something for us instead, so I'll be waiting a bit longer.
