Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ashayden · 18/01/2007 00:26

Hi Everyone

I just dicovered Mumsnet earlier this month and found this thread today and thought I'd introduce myself. I have 2 children. My dd is 2.5 and my ds was born on the 29th Sep 06. He was born 3 weeks early but still managed to be a healthy 7lb. (this was a massive shock to me as my dd was also 3weeks early and she was only 4lb 6oz)
Ds is mainly bf but he gets a bottle of formula every night just to help him get through (I really value my sleep )

I love chatting with other mums with children the same age, you never know what valuable bit of wisdom you will pick up. I really look forward to chatting with you all.

cruisemum1 · 18/01/2007 07:58

ashaydehn - welcome to Mumsnet! more later. school run now .

clairemow · 18/01/2007 09:41

hi Ashayden, welcome to our thread. We're pretty friendly I hope!

Jingle, how are you feeling today?

OP posts:
tassis · 18/01/2007 10:13

mad amounts of snow here

cars getting stuck right left and centre

school's shut (so no nursery for ds)

if it ever stops we'll go sledging and make a snowman

cruisemum1 · 18/01/2007 10:49

tassis - sounds great! We are battening down the hatches here. Gales, rain etc. Yuck

MunkiBaby · 18/01/2007 10:56

To start, im jealous that we've no snow here. only nasty gales and rain, same as cruise. yuck, indeedy!

Jingle ~ i hope you are feeling better about the bf issue today.

Welcome Ashayden! (((my ds was born near-ish to yours...25th...he was 8 lbs!!)) awww i luv chubby babies. he's only 13 lbs now, at 16 weeks old...slowly chunking out

kseaj · 18/01/2007 11:04

morning all,

welcome Ashayden

Tassis i am so i love the snow i really wish it would snow here.

jingle sorry to here about the bf, hope it works out for you what ever you decide.

clairemow i am having problems with tantrums at the moment also ds1 is 2.9.

Well having a crap time at the moment my exma(sp) on my hands has flared up v. bad it is so sore even having problems washing my hands.
Ds is not settling well at all just laterly, takes his feed 10 mins leter he ic crying, have tried giving him 1oz extra but he is not interested.
Last night i gave him 6oz at 6.00 10mins later he was crying this went on untill 8.30 i gave him another 6oz he had 2 and went sleep for the night.
He is waking earlier 6.00 i normally have to wake him at 7.45. Someone has suggested weaning to me he is 16 weeks this week i do not know what to do i was going to wait but iam at my wits end. Dd is also off today with a bad stomach so have all 3 at home today dd is a v. good little girl though.

MunkiBaby · 18/01/2007 11:08

ooops! i posted before i was finished!

GREAT NEWS!!! my ds slept in his cot from 845pm to 3AM. dream feed. woke again at 6am for a feed...couldnt get him back to sleep until 7am (wouldve woken up then, but mommy was waaay too tired)). so he went back to sleep at 7am, until 945!

Last night, i was doing a bit of research of sleeping schedules and routines, just getting a little more advice, etc. One site said that "To sleep through" is defined as solid sleep from midnite to 5am. anything in excess is fabulous.

Here's hoping that we are very very ver close to a better sleeping habit!

oh, but i now recall that i woke due to engorgement pain in the boobs around 2am, and i looked over to check on him. He was on his tummy! and even though his head was on its side, i was afraid to fall back to sleep! but sure enough, he stirred at 3 so i picked him up for a feed anyways. phew!

ladies, it might not sound like much a big deal, but to me...wow, its a HUGE thing. this is a boy that normally wakes 5-7 times ina bad week and 4 on an average night. wow, is all i can say. ahhhhh...

{{even if it was a 1-off, it was nice to sleep solid-ish}}}

mabel1973 · 18/01/2007 11:24

hi all!
Jingle - so sorry to hear aboout what the consultant said to you. If you want to keep going with the BF, as everyone says it is possible to increase your supply...def try and get some advice from Tiktok, she helped me when my supply seemed low. I may be way off course here, but have you tried adjusting your diet, to help your lo keep down your milk? I friend off mine had to cut dairy out of her diet while she was bf as it turned our her DS had a cows milk allergy and was reacting to it in her breast milk.
Tassis - SNOW! how exciting! can't wait for it to fall here so I can take DS1 sledging!
Kseaj - Personally I would try and hang on with the weaning for a bit longer, he may just be having a growth spurt, although it's likely he's getting hungrier now...Ds2 will be 18 weeks tommrow and the mornings are getting earlier and earlier, it has been 4am for the last 2 mornings, I don't mind if I can get back to sleep. He is on 1 bottle of formula for the 'dream feed', so I bought a carton of the the next step up to see if it helped him last longer, but made no difference, he obviously needs more, i was hoping to go til 5 months, but I don't know how likely that is.
Jave a bit of exciting news - next week we are getting a second car!!! I am so excited, for nearly 2 years I have not had a car and either had to walk everywhere, use public transport (which is quite limited round here) or take DH to work, which is a real hassle getting to boys ready that early, so as of next week, I will be mobile...the world is our oyster

mabel1973 · 18/01/2007 11:27

great news munki!

just realised how apallingmy spelling was on that last post

mabel1973 · 18/01/2007 11:27

oh dear......

MunkiBaby · 18/01/2007 11:42

And fabulous news about the car, mabel. dh and i were talking last night about me going for my UK license along with him, seeing as he's carpooling. ((we've both been driving on our california licenses and i think we're only allowed a year of that, and thats up.)) anyways, i just might be using the car myself. Its a nice thought not having to take public transport everywhere (even though i dont mind contributing to the cause of less cars on road, better air, etc...its a nice change from having to lug around a pram plus shopping. blah blah blah....)) wouldnt you agree, Mabel??

oh, and im attempting a daytime rota today. just gave ds a feed and put him down in his cot. he's crying at the moment. and for the first ten minutes, i was having a hard time keeping him on his back or side ((he's mainly a side sleeper)). but he keeps rolling over on his tummy. [insert tired and hopeless emoticon here]

mabel1973 · 18/01/2007 11:52

I do agree munki...I still intend to keep walking as much as possible, but somedays when it is tipping it down and I've got walk to playgroup with two small children, one who has an aversion to the rain cover, then i think .... I really NEED a car!
I don't know if you can do anything about the rolling...maybe rolled up towels either side of him? I know DS1 eventually started sleeping on his tummy, but he was much older.

tassis · 18/01/2007 14:21

Well we have a rather fantastic snowman in our garden! Ds is being a woose about sledging as he remembers falling off last year (but that was his uncle's fault and we keep telling him we'll hold him etc etc so may change him mind!). he's massively into snowball fights and is currently throwing snowballs at the study window - cute!

Dd is asleep. We went out with her in the sling and fell asleep on the way home but transferred beautifully to her crib.

Welcome Ashayden.

Sorryto hear about your hands kseaj and I hope your wee man has a more settled day today.

Munki - so pleased you had such a good night.

Mabel - dh and I usually carshare too and it can be a complete pain. Lovely to have a 2nd one, I'm sure it'll make life a lot easier. (and I didn't even notice the spelling mistakes which is worrying!)

Myrtle1 · 18/01/2007 14:36

Wow Tassis, the snow sounds fab. We are forecast it here for Monday Are you based in Scotland?
Bristols, how was the baby massage? Its something I would like to try but we don't seem to have any classes near me, however we went to baby yoga again today which DS seems to really enjoy and its good for me too.
I have a quick question about nursery. I'm due back at work soon, i plan to do 3 days or 2.5 days and DS will be 5.5 months when I go back and will go to nursery. DH is worried that he's too young and it will make him insecure but I think it will be good for DS but I do worry a bit about leaving him for long days without me. What have other people's experiences been? I want to work but am starting to think I might ask for 2.5 days and could do these in a block. Work should agree as they are facing financial troubles and seem quite pleased I want to be PT.

JingleBelle · 18/01/2007 15:54

Hi Ladies,
Mabel - fantastic news about the car!
Munki - what fantastic sleep for your LO - long may it continue.
Welcome Ashayden!
Thanks for concern Clairemow and Cruise. This morning was going to give it one last shot, but was meeting a friend today so took bottle with as well. He fussed on an off on me, so I gave him bottle and he was more contented, but he is having a really upset day today (overtired I think, but unable to send himself off). Friend made a good point - am I wanting to continue bf for me or for DS? Which made me think, as DS is happier on ff I think. DH has taken him for a walk to give me a break (it's his day off). I will see if I have time to post asking TikTok or Mears advice about increasing supply over next week or so, but if that doesn't work I will truly have to go ff, as I'm back to work in 2.5 months and I want to enjoy DS. Must get to cleaning though, as that is reason I have some time to myself (my imposed ruling, not DH!!)
Mabel - thanks for suggestion, I cut out dairy weeks ago, but cut out lots more (eggs, soya, etc) since 1 Jan and for 10 days now have eaten only foods which are the lowest allergenic, so I don't know what problem is still.
Right, must go. Isn't weather miserable?!

Coriander73 · 18/01/2007 19:50

Hey Jingle....we all feel for you You've done brilliantly so you should feel v. proud of youself. SO many people do;'t even bother or give up after a few days let alone a few weeks so you should pat yourself on the back

Hurrah for the woman in Waitrose!!! The customers were probably too polite to say anything (!!)...imagine if she'd been in Asbos (sorry ASDA!) she many have been confronted by those moronic people who were on the C4 breastfeeding programme last year (you know the one with the 8yr old still being BF!!)...anyone remember?!

Mabel, great news about the car

Took J down to the doctors today...has yet another viral infection poor love...39c temp & so off he's food it's not funny. DD on the other hand is very anti mummy again...just wants Daddy all the time....quite depressing really. I know you can't reason with a 2 year old but sometimes I just want to ask why Mummy is so terrible?!!

mabel1973 · 18/01/2007 20:28

Cori lol at ASBOS - love it!, don't know about your local asda but ours seeems to be somewhere for people in leggings who feed their babies chips to congregate...god i sound like such a snob!

You have my sympathy re: your DD, DS1 is exactly the same, mummy is always second best in this house as he's concerned. He is really playing up at bedtime at the moment. We have finally had to resort to controlled crying. Touch wood it seems to be working. DH puts him to bed, then leaves the room, he screams for daddy, but it is me that has to keep going in and putting him to bed, so that he is not getting what he wants (daddy!) - phew it's hard work and v. demoralising at times.

Coriander73 · 18/01/2007 20:59

Understand Mabel...the people that go into our local one just beggar belief at times! The amount of parents that just f & blind at them whilst stuffing another packet of wosits down the poor babies throat is unreal....it's probably Jade & Jackiey Goody territory!!!! ...(now I sounds like a snob eh?!!..vote shilpa!!)

Yes we had to do that with DD too...the couple of times I've put her to bed recently she's screamed for daddy & had all mother of tantrums...not that we gave in bit I was very close. Doesn't like kissing me good night either at the moment or helping her with anything at all...all daddy daddy daddy..grrrrrr

cruisemum1 · 18/01/2007 21:15

munki - you and your lo are doing fantastically well. My nights are defo improving too so I am feeling optimistic though still a bit nervous that it will all fall on its arse again . Fingers crossed for sleepfilled nights! What way do they roll first? front to back or back to front?
Oh shit ds awake again. 2nd time since 7:30pm...grrrrrrrr

bristols · 18/01/2007 21:37

Myrtle - Massage was lovely, thanks. Its so relaxing for both of us. There's a baby massage expert called David (I think) Walker. He's written books and made videos. They're probably in your local library if you have a look. Another book is 'Loving Hands' by F Leboyer. Haven't seen it but its recommended on my baby massage leaflet.

Baby yoga sounds fantastic. Am going to see if there's anything locally.

Hope none of you have been blown away today. Dreadful winds and rain here (Essex).

Wishing you all a peaceful night...

MunkiBaby · 18/01/2007 21:58

cruise, dont know if its the norm but my ds rolled onto his tummy first. he has managed to roll back again a couple times.

sad to report that ds is unwell tonight...so his new sleep routine just might be put on hold for a night.poor little man has flush red cheeks , red dry nose, drooling like crazy, verrry fussy...possibly teething??? he's asleep on my arm at the moment. will take him up in a mo.

oh, and
Coriander, i have to agree....get jade out!

Marls001 · 18/01/2007 22:35

it's been so long I need to catch up ... v. busy these days around here

Jameson now 14 lbs, 2 oz. Sleeping still from 11:30-5:30 which Dr. says is normal for 4.5 months but he wants us to "train" him further by dropping the night feeding - but did say to wait 1 week to let him finish his antibiotic from the ear infection (had it in both ears ) and start on his Prevacid - yes, he's developed acid reflux; probably inherited it from me ... had an ice storm last weekend ... working like mad on art right now ... hopefully will snow here this weekend! DS1 would love it if it does.

fairysnuff · 18/01/2007 23:33

Hello, all.
Just a wee note to say Baby massage is brill. I really enjoy it and DD just giggles and gurgles all the while too!
It is really just common sense, I was told by my teacher.
Stroke from shoulders to hands and thighs to toes (not like adults, you want to get the blood flowing to these extremities cos they get cold, ie the blood is not flowing so well to them yet)
Anti Clockwise on the tummy, to get anything that is on it's travels out that end!!

DD really likes it when I take her two legs and bend them up onto her tummy, that helps with the wind too, bonus!
And when I Scoop under her bum and down her legs, to her toes. Could be cos it is always followed by me saying scooOOoop!!

They told me not to be afarid to give it a go, so I hope those are a few hinters for those who can't get to lessons, to give it a go.
Also, use Grapeseed Oil, not virgin. Smells better! Your baby would smell like dinner otherwise, wouldn't they?

I really want to get to baby Yoga, sounds fab! But they don't do it here until baby is 6 months? Also it takes place in the hospital which is 20 miles way. A long trip and I am not sure what baby actually gets out of it??

Hello to Ashayden, I am fairly new too and I think it is a fab site and this group are just lovely. It is nice to share the good stuff as well as the bad.

ashayden · 19/01/2007 00:57

ok snow, I am very . I haven't seen snow since I was 12.
I'm in Australia so we are in the middle of summer. And it's been really weird weather. Lately the weeks have started of comfortable but by the weekend it's sweltering, we haven't wanted to go anywhere during the weekend because the car has been to hot to but the kids in.

Mabel- Awesome news about the car. I know how exciting it is. My dh wrote off his work car just before christmas and they decided not to replace it . So he had to start taking our car to work. I almost went insane not having a car. (public transport isn't so great here and nothing is really in walking distance). So when we bought a new car I couldn't wait to go pick it up, so I could get my freedom back!

Munki- that is great news about your night. I haven't had ds weighed for a while all I know is that he is wearing the same size clothes that my dd was wearing when she was about 10mths. he is definitely a chubby bubby.
