my ds is the same.. but he has his fist in his mouth a lot at moment (just realised he can do it) so i thinking it is prob that... but will be interested in your responses. ds is 13 weeks x

pmoore · 24/01/2007 07:52

Well, I think someone out there is stopping me from meeting everyone, shame I'd planned everything, even persuaded my dad to go to work later so he could help! Now there is snow everywhere here in Kent can't take the risk of driving as none of the roads round here are gritted.

marthahm- was really looking forward to your professional opinion- GP didn't really want to know. Will the HV be able to help?

Getting worried about these smear stories now must book it today.

Well hope today goes well- I'll be thinking of you all.

youngmum21 · 24/01/2007 08:47

im sure my dd is turning in to the devil child, ive tried everything to get her to start sleeping thru again and it just isnt happening it really taking it out of me! She wont drink anymore then 5oz at a feed and feeds every 3hours but sumtimes she is only lasting 2.5 and drinking the same amount, the 10pm feed is a dream feed as i cant get her to wake up and she will only have 3oz!!! Anyone who isnt on the meet up plez help!!!

wuzzlefraggle · 24/01/2007 10:11

hi ladies

had my smear and it was fine, and guess what?? i didnt fanny fart LOL!! i repeat, i didnt

got the mini pill too which i started taking last night and have to continue with untill i stop breast feeding, then i have to change to the normal pill

hope every1 and their lo's are ok.

Emzickle · 24/01/2007 17:49

can any one give me more details about what they actually do to you at a smear, as Ive never had one and ive got one on monday

Swizzler · 24/01/2007 19:04

Really enoyed the meet-up today - apologies for the loud teething baby! Was nice to meet Mellin for the first time and to catch up with other MNetters. We looked through a couple of galleries on the way out - W especially enjoyed the installation in the garden with all the flashing lights and music. Hope everyone got back OK. W now fast asleep having tired himself out with all that yelling

Mummypossum: I thought it was too early for teeth as well, but William has been dribbling for some time and now has three teeth def coming through. The symptoms can start some time before the actual teeth. Barrier cream on the chin is really useful for keeping the dribble rash under control.

Re teething pain, thanks to Gingeme and Catgirl for the Anbesol recommendation - got some on the way back and it's great!

On the way out, we were thinking about trying another meet-up in mid-March at the Museum of Childhood (Bethnal Green). Any thoughts?

Swizzler · 24/01/2007 19:08

Emzickle: they take a sample of cells from your cervix - doesn't take long and isn't painful. More info here: BBC

Swizzler · 24/01/2007 19:13

Oh and youngmum (can't you tell I'm tired ) could well be that your LO is going through a growth spurt. Things should settle down soon. It is frustrating when they seem to go backwards, but I'm sure it's nothing you're doing, just a stage your LO is going through.

marthahm · 24/01/2007 20:03

hi all, the meet up was great. los behaved themselves and we were able to talk to each other without shouting. mellin's baby nina looks like she may have acquired her first boyfriend as catgirl's lo bryn was holding her hand and making eyes at her. very cute. swizzler's lo william was way ahead of the crowd with development and really on the ball and gingeme's edward was lovely and smiley plus had a beautiful crop of red hair starting (but being a redhead i am a bit biased).
wish we could have a meet up with all of our lo's. maybe one day?
keep persevering emzickle, it's got to get easier again soon.
sorry not to see you pmor. will have to check samantha's head shape out next time

catgirl · 24/01/2007 21:14

hi - lovely to meet up today, shame about those that couldn't make it - next time hopefully.

Must have missed Bryn making eyes at Nina - was that when I went to the loo? - typical!

Swizzler - forgot to mention that I have just started going (been to one!) to a singing thing on Friday morning's at the Hackney Museum (next to Town Hall, Mare St), if you want to join - it is for 0-4 year olds (Bryn youngest by quite a few months, but enjoyed looking at the others), and more importantly it is FREE . There is a session at 10 am and 11 am - I hope to make the 10am. You do have to get there a bit earlier to sign in, as it is limited numbers, but last week I got there 20 mins early and was 2nd one to sign in!

Does sound like teething -get out the anbesol (sp?).

Youngmum - am sure your lo will settle again- easier said than done, but can you sleep/rest when she does?

Very up for a meet up in Musuem of Childhood (but I would say that, it is less than 10 mins on a bus for me ) - don't have a calendar in front of me, but can't do 23 March and Tuesday and Thursdays not great for me, apart from that....

Mellin · 24/01/2007 21:49

Hi all,
Had a great time at the meet-up today, worth the trek through the snow to get there! Nice to see all the babies and have adult conversation while not feeling guilty for talking about babies

catgirl - Bryn and Nina briefly got acquainted in the 5 minute window when Nina was awake and you were away from the table! Bryn was smiling and reaching out to Nina, but Nina didn't last long and got in a strop (good girl, planning on keeping her away from boys now until she is at least 18!)

Gingeme · 24/01/2007 22:26

Evening ladies. So lovely to meet you all today. What a clever bunch we are to have such lovely, inquisitive, happy babies. William is such a bruiser and Nina is such a honey. Defo another meet up in March. Let me know when and Ill se if dh can get a day off. He was quite worried about me bless him as I said I would probably be home about 3 and didnt leave the museum till about then. Never mind got home safe and sound with lots of adoring looks from fellow passengers on the tube. Ds3 keeps poohing his pants. Been doing it for a couple of days now. Not sure weather he might be a bit young for a sticker chart. Any ideas catgirl? Ive upped Edwards bottles to 8oz as suggested. Will let you know how it goes.
Glad to hear the smear went ok and you didnt make any embaressing noises wuzzle
Well Im off to bed now. Got a busy day again tommorrow at my cousins with her boystrious 2 year old.
Night night sleep tight xx

Tigerlion · 24/01/2007 23:16

So sorry I couldn't make the meet up and so jealous reading all your news on it. I had left a message on the meet up thread which was a bit silly considering I left it at 10.30 but DS was still fast asleep and the prospect of walking a good 40 minutes there and back in the snow was not all that appealing with the big hefty double buggy but I really regret it now. Eloise has red hair so would have blended in very well indeed. Hope you all enjoyed the cakes. They are good there, aren't they and it is quite a baby friendly place with all the ramps and high chairs etc.

Eloise used to sleep deeply from 7pm-4am, wake up for a feed, and then wake again at 8am but for the past week or so she has woken up at all hours and when I do try to give a feed before 4am she hardly takes any. She is also chomping away at her little hands non-stop. DS started teething at around 4/5 months so I don't think it is teething but can' t work out what it is. Any ideas?

Mellin, I do live in Fulham and as I can't get very far would love to meet other babies of Eloise's age as she only seems to hand out with the 17 month old friends of DS. I now realise just how restricted I am with the two of them, especially more so when the congestion charge happens in a few weeks' time. Would love to meet locally if you fancy.

Hope you and all your babies are well.

wuzzlefraggle · 25/01/2007 09:14

Glad you all had a nice time at the meetup

Emzickle- a smear is seriously nothing to worry about. i was bricking myself, but honestly, it doesnt hurt or anything and takes about 30 seconds for them to do. its slightly uncomfortable, but thats it. they have this little gadget (which imo can only be described as a duck-billed-platypus) use that to keep you open then take a sample from your cervix

BENDYB · 25/01/2007 09:48

glad u all enjoyed the meet up, i'm def gonna try & make the next 1!

wuzz glad the smear went ok!

youngmum- hope jasmine has settled down a bit????

well off 2 my mums in a bit, should be fun in all the ice!!!!

youngmum21 · 25/01/2007 09:59

bendy- np she getting worse she woke me up at 2 so i fed her then she woke up at 6 and wudnt settle till i fed her think im going to wait till after the weekend see how it goesthen speak to the hv maybe if i put her on the sma white that mite help!!! cant start giving her soilds yet she only 10weeks and 4days even though it tempting!! lol

pmoore · 25/01/2007 10:15

Morning all, youngmum- have you a bedtime routine. LO has been sleeping 9pm-6.30am/7am for the last 9 weeks. Every night she has bath-bottle-bed. (the last bottle I always make a little warmer than day ones.) She seems to know that after her bath is sleep time. My DP also reads her a book every night after bath.

I had to give LO a spoon of baby rice, I've been warned that if HV finds out I'll be lectured. my SIL was saying her friend was reported to Social Services as she had given her LO babyrice at 14 weeks.

Glad all went well yesterday- if anyone fancies a meet up at Bluewater anytime I'd be excited!
Bethnal Green is a bit of a trek but the venue sounds good, maybe I could drive?

pmoore · 25/01/2007 10:17

Also youngmum- before I completely swapped over to hungrier baby milk I used to give the last bottle at night as that for about 2 weeks. If you do swap you may want to do it slowly because of constipation.

youngmum21 · 25/01/2007 10:28

hi pmoore- yeah she has a bedtime routine more or less the same as yours bath bottle bed, which is fine cuz she goes down fine and i do a drean feed at 10 but she doesnt really wake up to drink enough, then she up at 2-3 for a feed then it was 7.30 but now she seems to be waking early every day aswell which i can only assume means she isnt satisfing enough to keep her going! Well ive just put an extra oz in her bottles for now see how she goes with that!!!

My mum keeps telling me to give her baby rice lol

youngmum21 · 25/01/2007 10:29

I really thin shud be up to us as mums when we want to give babies soilds as every child is diff and develop at diff rates!!

Mellin · 25/01/2007 17:29

Wuzzle - lol at your description of the smear gadget! Are you an Aussie by any chance? Don't think I know many poms who know what a duck-billed-platypus is

Tigerlion - have just sent you a message using the mail icon on this page - hope it works!

Gingeme · 25/01/2007 19:13

Good evening ladies. Just had a great day at my cousins who hasn't seen lo. She has a very boistrous 2 year old who totaly dominates my 2.5 year old. IN a nice way ofcourse
Then popped into my friends whos eldest is 5 today and she expects her 3rd baby in June.
Catgirl. I put lo's milk up and hes done brill today. In fact he went 5 hours this afternoon between feeds which was good cause I actualy had a whole cup of hot tea!!
Well going to give the boys there baths now and get them off to bed. Might try out our latex free domdoms tonight. Sorry tmi xx

catgirl · 25/01/2007 20:04

Gingeme - glad the 8ozs seems to be working - fingers crossed for tonight (him sleeping, not the other ).

We used a sticker chart for ds1 very successfully (his behaviour getting ready in mornings/evenings was truly awful), but think he might have been a little older. But no harm in trying - something like a sticker for every day you are 'clean' (or however you would say it), then a treat or something at the weekend?? We have a great children's book shop near us and ds1 was allowed to choose anything he wanted from in there! good luck!

Youngmum - re the dream feed at 10 - have you tried making sure she is properly awake, changing nappy or something, then she might take more, then she might sleep longer? Just a thought.

Met someone today whose grandson was born at nearly 24 weeks (ie 16 weeks early), and is just about to go for a stomach op - makes you realise how precious they are.

Anyway, off to do bottles now, put more washing on etc etc. and chase up family re ds2's christening next weekend - why is it that you say you need a quick answer and no one seems to be able to do that?? Really it is yes or no, you can make it or not.... aghhh - I am calm and serene, I am calm and serene.....

majormoo · 25/01/2007 20:06

oh just typed a message and don't think I posted it. Was moaning at my crap night with DS up all night last night-too sleep deprived to use the computer.

Glad you enjoyed meet up. My family come from Bow and I used to love going to the museum of childhood as a kid. Also DH and I used to live on Roman road so the whole area brings back a lot of memories for me. Still, probably a bit far for me. Pmoore-I'd be up for Bluewater. A Monday or Friday best for me.

Wuzzle-good description of the smear test!

marthahm · 25/01/2007 20:42

how do you get to bluewater?
catgirl, know what you mean about the christening. my lot are deliberating like it was the party of the century and seem to think they're going to shatter my dreams if they say they can't come. honestly, just a yes or a no is fine.
lo was up at 3am last night for an hour, made it through to lunch time in a zombified state, no idea how had semi sane conversations with boiler man about the state of the heating in our house, rammed antibiotics down cat's throat and juggled lo who was screaming for food but having to wait for meds to work, then screaming because the meds didn't work and talked politely to the child psych student who comes to observe Hope every week as part of her course. unfortunately dd only slept for half an hour before waking for more food. bummer, she got my hopes up yesterday by being baby angel.
am now watching episodes of west wing in comatose state.dh not back til at least 11. if i do last feed half an hour early at 9.30 is she more likely to wake this evening? don't think i can risk it sadly.
