I assume baby was weaned St that age too though and eating solids?

Marsaday · 30/01/2016 14:34

Yes, he was on 3 meals a day.
So last night baby girl slept 3 one hour chunks in her bassinet - but OH has just been and picked up a troll crib co-sleeper second hand which is now sidecarred to the bed. It's going to be so much better, means i won't have to cart the moses up and down stairs all the time, plus I won't have to get out of bed to reach her when she wants a feed. And best of all means i can sleep right up close and touch her but not worry that i will squash her or suffocate her. We co-slept for the last stretch of last night but i was blinkin freezing as i didn't dare have the duvet up past my waist in case of suffocating her.

Nousername2015 · 30/01/2016 15:01

Sounds like progress mars! I co slept the first couple of nights but didn't dare to have a duvet at all, I was bloody freezing! Ended up wearing that many layers then when I woke up I was sweating like crazy.

Love the idea of a co sleeper crib but daren't now that we've cracked the moses basket. Swaddling seems to be the way forward for us.

My bab won't go in Co sleeper. Can you snuggle into yours I can't in mine because there's a slight dip between Co sleeper and our bed. Also I don't know how to get the straps on ours as we have a divan. Do you think your bab will go in it

Rpj16 · 30/01/2016 16:07

That gadget looks interesting! Love the drawing it how it works!
I've got engorgement too now. I'm gonna exclusively breastfeed (with nipple shields) as have spoken to several mid wife's and he's taking it better today. Only day 3!

Any tips on sleeping positions???

cheeseandcrackers · 31/01/2016 02:25

I've been trying to get ds to sleep for nearly four hours now... after a few nights of 1-3hr stretches in his moses basket it seems he's back to waking after 12 minutes every time I put him in it now.
I usually end up co-sleeping after about 4:30am aa he gets progressively harder to settle through tthe night and agree that the cold is the hardest thing to deal with .

cheeseandcrackers · 31/01/2016 06:53

Sob... Thought we were on our way to getting sleeping in basket cracked. Apparently not. DS2 wouldn't sleep in it at all last night and I've been up since midnight with aching calves and arms from bouncing him up and down. DS1 now also up and family are coming to visit today - I'm going to be a very grumpy zombie...

firsttimemum15 · 31/01/2016 06:54

Same here she was asleep so we didn't do be time routine and I'm glad as I had an hour and half sleep in bed on my own.

She woke up at ten to 12. Fed until about 2. Fell asleep on me. Woke when transferred to moses basket and the whole process was repeated throughout the night

Boosiehs · 31/01/2016 10:32

I have to say a lot of your comments really remind me. Of what it was like wth DS1. He would only sleep on me, feeding every 1-1.5 hours. Terrible wind.

It turned out that he had a tongue tie, despite being checked by 3 paediatricians and MW in he hospital. T was a posterior tie so he could latch, but he couldn't properly feed and was wearing himself out trying, falling asleep then waking up shortly after really hungry.

Also I was in all sorts of pain with nipple blanching, where it flattens with feeding and goes white. Bloody agony!

If you think you have any of these symptoms definitely get a feeding consultant (or if you are in North London go to the Royal Free Hospital tongue the clinic).

DS tie snipped in 5 mins and like a changed baby after.

I know that DS2 hasn't got a tie as he feeds much better and is already sleepin g for over 4 hours in his crib.

On and id really think about whether you have to wake a baby at night for feeding. If hey are asleep and happy what are you achieving??

Good luck everyone. Even with a so far good sleeper I'm still up lots in the night!

Boosiehs · 31/01/2016 10:34

Oh and a tip for keeping awake at night when feeding is to have some snacks! Healthy or unhealthy your choice (mine was hobnobs). :)

firsttimemum15 · 31/01/2016 12:39

What is orosterior tongue tie my baby had tongue tie done twice don't think there's anything left

firsttimemum15 · 31/01/2016 16:15

Anyone else a bit concerned about getting out and about. Not wanting to rush things but feeds take ages. At the moment I can't picture getting out/getting on with everyday things.

Baby didn't go in basket last night but slept on me and hasn't been down all day.

Think I'm hasvug a bad day. Doubting what I'm doing (BF) and why I'm doing it

Boosiehs · 31/01/2016 16:54

Posterior tie is where it's only connected at the back of the tongue but the tissue is too tight to allow the tongue to touch the roof of the mouth.

vickyors · 31/01/2016 20:28

Hey all.. Firsttime, I'm kinda with you on the getting out thing.. Feeding takes so long that I don't have any time for my toddler. BF is going really well, but it's so demanding..

On another note- is anyone else struggling to eat? My appetite is gone and I don't seem to fancy anything..

firsttimemum15 · 31/01/2016 23:44

That's a shame. No I am eating ok.

Is anyone up? Again we are on a mammoth feeding session after being at it for a lot of the day too. As I've just added on another post. She went down at 9.30. Awake 30 mins later and has been feeding constantly. Well meaning family members say give a bottle but I'm trying to protect my supply of milk after supply issues.

She's fussing on the boob on and off on and off. Slightly concerned she's exhausting herself. But she has put on weight and is producing nappy output.

Midwives etc say growth spurt but can we really have these once a week, every week for most of the days of the week.

It's exhausting and I am really beginning to question what I am doing.

Anyone else going through similar?

PS midwives and HV did say I was right to keep her on the boob during one of our last 5 hour sessions

cheeseandcrackers · 01/02/2016 05:01

firsttime sounds like a growth spurt to me. Pretty sure that was what ds2 was going through yesterday as tonight has been soo much better with s 2hr and a 1hr session in his moses basket since midnight and a 3hr session with dh downstairs before that. I have been giving him infacol before every feed today, not sure if that is helping or just a coincidence. He has been diagnosed with a posterior tongue tie, just waiting for appointment to get it snipped.

Those of you struggling to get out and about, have you tried a sling? I try to make sure everything is ready so we can go as soon as ds finishes a feed, but could feed ds in a sling when out if necessary so can keep going with whatever we're doing. I quite like the excuse to stop at a cafe for some cake and a feed though.

Marsaday · 01/02/2016 06:25

I've got slings - i still have my wrap stash from ds1, but im mostly using a stretchy or ring sling at the moment for speed.
Can't feed in sling yet though, baby too small and latch is dodgy - waiting on referral to tongue tie clinic.

Rubbish night here - she. Cluster fed from 6.30pm until midnight.
She let me sleep 2 hrs from 12.30 until 2.30am then has been cluster feeding again from 2.30 until now and no sign of stopping. And she keeps pooing, i must have changed 8 nappies so far tonight and she screams like she's being tortured every time!
I've just woken OH and made him bring me a packet of chocolate hob nobs. And told him that he is getting up with toddler in silence and taking him to toddler group so that when baby finally conks out me and her can both get some rest.

I'm actually dreading how I deal with this next week once OH is back at work. He leaves too early to help with morning routine but if baby has me up all night I'll have to get up with toddler regardless.

firsttimemum15 · 01/02/2016 07:54

I've got a sling but haven't tried feeding in it yet. I watched a YouTube tutorial I'm nit sure ill be able to do it I'm still mastering the basic sling.

Do you out your bab in a feeding position that's whay the instructions for my sling recommends.

Oh no Mars sounds bad I keep saying I don't know how people do it with two children.

Tried to get mine in basket after she fell asleep on me twice. No luck. But got her down from 4 until 7.30 thought she was stirring so rocked and rocked that basket. It worked amazingly

Boosiehs · 01/02/2016 11:36

Not a great night, but a 4 hour stretch from 7.30 until now.

I'm lucky I have DH at home to take the toddler!

fourlegstwolegs · 01/02/2016 16:55

Hi y'all - I had a nightmare with BF-ing last week, tremendous pain, cracked nipples, blood, the lot. I went to a drop in breastfeeding centre and they were so helpful - as were the midwives on home visits. All ok now!

I BF DS1 for 18 months and had no issues with teeth - someone was asking up thread.

Clusterfeeding here too in the evenings, and a very sleepy baby all day! I'm v v tired but its all par for the course.

TMI alert - has anyone else started bleeding heavily again? It had all but stopped but has now (11 days) come back with a vengeance, soaking pads very quickly.

Marsaday · 01/02/2016 17:45

Just when I thought it couldn't get much worse than never sleeping more than 3 hours a night, my DS1 has now gifted me his filthy cold Sad
So sleep deprivation is now complemented by a headache, earache, throbbing sinuses and a sore throat.
My OH has been lovely and dealt with toddler today so i can rest but I haven't managed to sleep because baby has not cooperated.

firsttimemum15 · 01/02/2016 17:49

I didn't have a normal delivery so can't comment. Hospital told me to expect bleeding for up to 10 days. 4 and a bit weeks later I'm still having mild bleeding..

If I was you I'd be included to c9ntacted triage for advice and reassurance given how heavy it is.

Look after yourself xx

Marsaday · 01/02/2016 18:44

fourlegs have you got more active in the last couple of days? I reckon that makes my flow heavy again.

fourlegstwolegs · 01/02/2016 19:08

I'm going to give the labour ward a quick call - I did go for a walk yesterday but it was at snails pace (due to a dawdling 3yo!) but it was after that the bleeding kicked in - and has remained ever since. A few clots as well.

firsttimemum15 · 01/02/2016 21:57

I hope you're ok
