Oh dear Liberty! No advice, same here - just sympathy!

Nousername2015 · 12/02/2016 12:23

Oh dear liberty, how awful for you. Have you tried infacol? Is suitable from birth. I've also found doing bicycle legs pretty good for freeing trapped wind.

Thanks both - yeah tried all the various positions - health visitor says it might be a growth spurt?? I'll give it another day (cos growth spurts last about 3 days right?) and then send DH out for infacol

firsttimemum15 · 12/02/2016 15:50

Definitely sounds like a growth spurt. How old is she now?

My only suggestion would be to wind regularly. I'm sure you do though.

We are the same we have what I call "fussy evenings" from about 6/7pm until 10pm 11pm. Where she looks like she's in pain. Cries etc.

I can only sympathise. X

LibertyBelles · 12/02/2016 17:23

Thanks, it's the basically no sleep getting me! She's 11 days! Yes to regular winding, trying a bath tonight too

Nousername2015 · 12/02/2016 17:48

We've just tried ds on some expressed bm in a bottle. Not planning to substitute feeds but I've got an afternoon out with some friends in a few weeks so want to get him used to it.

Failed miserably. The tiny bit he would take he just spat back up. Of course other babies in my antenatal group switch with no issues. I love being able to feed him but feel ridiculously restricted too.

Hey all. Liberty that does sound like a growth spurt.. Our little one is 17 days and is it three weeks they often have a spurt? I think we're due one..

I do feel like a spend most of my time feeding.. It is great, but knackering.. However, we had her weighed today and she's 7lbs 7, so a massive gain in a week.. (From 6lbs 10) No wonder I'm a bit knackered..

Anyone else seem to have one good night then a bad one next night? I know it'll settle down..

Woody16 · 12/02/2016 19:22

Hello, hope it's not too late to join in, my January baby is just over 4 weeks now, time flies! :)

Currently sitting here enduring the daily all afternoon/evening cluster feed and dreading the approaching night... He's lovely and a joy of course, but the feeding is exhausting. Nice to see lots of other people in the same boat, stops me constantly second guessing as to whether this is normal or not!

firsttimemum15 · 12/02/2016 20:00

Welcome Woody

Vicky we had a 2, 3 and 4 week growth spurt I think I think I may have had a 6 -7 week one too.

I'm waiting for the 8 week one eventually. Glad weight gain is going well. Yay
Keep gping. So similar to what happened with us. X

Woody16 · 12/02/2016 21:48

Thanks :)

vicky our nights are very variable too. 2 nights ago I was up til 5am with screaming baby, crying and howling to husband that I couldn't go on anymore. Last night he slept from midnight and only woke for 2 and 5am feeds! Hoping for another one like that tonight...

I dared to interrupt my son's mammoth cluster feed 4 hours in (I'm sure some of it is suckling for comfort, but he screams if I take him off so figured it's better to leave him to it) this evening to try and properly eat dinner with my husband after he slaved cooking it for hours. For the last 10 days I've eaten cold food one handed over baby's body while he feeds. Stuck a dummy in his mouth and got almost 5 minutes to eat hot food before he started screaming bloody murder. Result! Looking forward to the end of this growth spurt.

firsttimemum15 · 12/02/2016 22:33

My baby seems to sleep lots in the mornings and over lunch. Wakes early afternoon perhaps a sml nap then awake early evening until now. She feeds from about 5pm/6pm until 11pm/midnight. But is very fussy: pulling on and off the boob, waving head, kicking legs, punching boob etc etc etc.

Does anyone else's baby feed so long at a particular time each day or night?

I know bf is supply and demand so feeding today dictates supply tomorrow. Just don't understand why feeds are not a bit shorter on the evenings if she's ordered it the night before Wink I am enjoying it though. But sitting in a dark room from 7pm on my own with a fussy baby isn't always fun.

I'm the same. Have to eat tea one handed or put her in bouncer and gobble. X

Woody16 · 12/02/2016 23:46

first mine has been very similar for the last few days/week. Goes 2-4 hrs between feeds in morning and early afternoon, then from 4/5pm feeds constantly til about 11 when husband gives him a bottle of formula (we had to top up every feed with formula for a while as he was losing weight and was readmitted to hospital after a week, but are down to just one bottle at bedtime now). He guzzles up to 100ml of formula (after breastfeeding for hours!) then still comes back to me for one final feed before he will finally settle around midnight. Some nights still won't settle for a few more hours. He still only weighs 5lb 10, no idea where he's putting it all!

Have been assured by HV and breastfeeding counsellor that this is all normal so I guess we just have to wait for it to pass. It's exhausting isn't it, not to mention boring after a while!

firsttimemum15 · 13/02/2016 07:56

That's reassuring to know I'm not the only one. I repetedly read and hear that they shouldn't go longer than 40 mins awake. I read this article which nailed the bedtime thin though www.preciouslittlesleep.com/baby-sleep-what-is-normal/#comment-486378

cheeseandcrackers · 13/02/2016 10:06

40 mins awake? Mine can go way longer than that. In fact it takes 40 mins to get him to go to sleep even when obviously tired.
Evening cluster feeds are totally normal but very inconvenient as that's the time I am trying to cook/ eat dinner/ get ds1 to bed. Meal times are not too bad though, ds2 will sit happily in his bouncy chair with the vibrate function on for usually enough time to eat.

Ds2 had his tongue tie released yesterday - it was quite quick but horrible to have to hold him still then feed him with blood dribbling out of his mouth. He seemed fine very quickly though and fed well immediately but then yesterday afternoon was clearly in a lot of discomfort and screamed whenever he tried to feed. Dh came home to me in floods of tears over what I had put him through and panicking over what I would do if he kept refusing to feed but eventually he settled down and fed and is completely fine now and feeding well. Still have to see whether it has an effect on windiness (liberty we use infacol before every feed and really notice the difference if I forget, I would say it's worth trying now) and weight gain.
Ironically when worrying about weight gain, I have been putting just 4wk old ds2 in 3-6 month sleepsuits as he couldn't stretch his legs out in 0-3 and I couldn't fit the scratchmits over his hands but he was 10lbs and very long so he was never going to be in 0-3 for long.

firsttimemum15 · 13/02/2016 11:02

Glad it's not just me cheese.

She's awake from about 6am- 10 am or 11 then sleeps till lunch ish. Then sleep till early afternoon. Then awake. Sml nap which I've never been able tog et her down for as it only seems a light sleep then awake from 6/7 feeding until 10/11

Last night went in moses basket from 12-230 but then I felt asleep feeding but her in basket and she woke up then was ted feeding again. I was exhausted x

LibertyBelles · 13/02/2016 11:26

Agree with both the below - we've just had a n almost one hour nap here and that's pro about it for the day!!

vickyors · 13/02/2016 13:52

Our days are ok, and DS2 goes to sleep at 7, but then we do a big cluster feed from 10 for an hour to 3 hours.. Then it's fair game.. Last night was good and she only woke once, but I struggle to get back to sleep between and after any feed.. Chronic insomnia has been an issue for years for me.. Just physically tired from feeding..

Cheese your LO is over 10lbs! Wow! You must have gold top.. We've hit mid 7lbs which is good so far.

Feeling knackered today.. And my house is a state!!

LibertyBelles · 13/02/2016 14:03

cheese my LO was 10 pounds 2 at birth (girl) - what about yours?

firsttimemum15 · 13/02/2016 16:25

Similar here re feedings and sleeps generally sleep in day and feeds later on.
X

cheeseandcrackers · 13/02/2016 16:45

liberty 10lbs exactly. Ds1 was 10lbs2oz so just glad ds2 wasn't bigger! I had growth scans throughout this pregnancy because ds1 was so big but they all said he was average, as did bump measurements. I didn't believe them and told midwife during labour he would be big but she wouldn't believe me... did you know your dd would be big?

LibertyBelles · 13/02/2016 18:12

Yes, I'm 5ft 11 so thought she'd be big but not that big! I measured ahead a bit some weeks but nothing major until 38 weeks where I measured 41 weeks!!

Nousername2015 · 13/02/2016 21:42

Urgh, awful day here. God knows what tonight will bring. Ds has been very sleepy, when he's been awake he's been screaming, very difficult to feed and we haven't had a poo for over 24 hours. I'm thinking colic Sad
I was already struggling to breastfeed with having oversupply which was resulting in green poo, I'm also off dairy at the moment in case he is intolerant. I really want to breastfeed but I just don't think he is getting what he needs from me. He is going through his first leap at the moment but I don't think that would cause these issues. Does anyone have any experience of this?

LibertyBelles · 13/02/2016 21:54

Ah sorry to hear that nousername - no advice just sympathy.

Has anyone used a Ewan the dream sheep - is 20 mins long enough?

firsttimemum15 · 13/02/2016 22:04

I've got Ewan. I don't know whether he works. I put it on a couple of times. Roses battery though

No use sorry to hear. Could you pump some formula before a feed to help bab get to fatter milk faster?

Nousername2015 · 13/02/2016 22:18

I've tried pumping, ds won't take a bottle unfortunately.
