November 2015 newborns and neurotics

Hi all,

I can't see a group for babies born in November so I'm starting one! My DD is 2 weeks old and we've had 2 weeks learning curve - breastfeeding, nappy changing, sleep deprivation and learning what cries mean, on top of poor DD struggling to go to the toilet and manic bouts of meltdown crying! How is everyone else getting on?

Who has started the first foods? :)
My DD started yesterday (17weeks) and I am a big fan of Ella's Kitchen.
She loves the sweet potato one!
How's everyone else's food experience? X

Hi!
Aw not quite yet, my DS is 2o weeks but suffering badly with eczema - have hospital appt tomorrow & want them to rule out possible allergens before I start. But was going to at around 5 &half weeks.
I've got Anne be Karmel's weaning book which is lovely & clear. Will get some Ellastone Kitchen pouches in too I think, noted that the sweet potato is a hit! ;-)

Ah thats a good idea. I'll have a look at the Annabel weening book - I've heard about it!
My DD is dairy free, so that's an obvious one to avoid, but they told me that thy couldn't do a full allergy test until she has been exposed to the foods...? Strange.
Hope it goes ok!

Hi all, just wondered how everyone is doing?

We're OK, can't believe ds is five months already. We're going to hold off on weaning for another month as we want to do baby led weaning, which worked well for our older dd.

How are the babies all sleeping? Ds is getting better but still wakes in the night for milk a couple of times and we have the odd dreadful night where he won't settle after a feed.

sophiaslullaby · 23/04/2016 05:05

Hi! Aww -could have written your post. DS is 5 &half months, still wakes about twice night for feed. Except tonight where I wonder why we even bothered going to bed! I'm SUPER tired so am snappy at DH, frustrated with DS -why's he not sleeping?!
I started weaning on purees a week ago -could it be his digestive system giving him turmoil or energy? Has woken every 2hrs tonight then at.4.30 am was wide awake, fed, clean nappy, back to bed &cried cried cried so here I am soothe-feeding again. FFS he's asleep ON me! What does this mean?! He wants comfort?...

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 23/04/2016 07:59

Sorry to hear you had a bad night Sophia. Maybe it is the food, or could he be teething or going down with a cold? Or maybe they're just being little buggers, ha ha.

sophiaslullaby · 23/04/2016 10:33

Haha, quite funny reading back my post in the bright sunny daytime - my little sweetheart really can be a good sleeper but afraid he is teething, suffering with a cold and hadn't pooped in 2 days so we were both (son & me) at exhaustion point!
Massive poop at 7am so that's out the way, will just snooze when he does today.

What's everyone's LO's liking in terms of weaning food?

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 23/04/2016 22:22

It always seems better in the light of day, doesn't it?

Ds isn't having solids yet but he looks longingly at my food. I think he will love it. We'll start out giving him bits of fruit and vegetables eg banana, avocado, cooked sweet potato, broccoli etc and see how he gets on. Meanwhile dd is probably already feeding him raisins when I'm not looking Grin

sophiaslullaby · 24/04/2016 11:34

DS has been looking longingly at our food and cups of tea for a while, so much so that he grabbed my fortunatly empty mug I was holding and put his mouth round the rim, it was best form of imitation I've seen from him (I know he doesn't really know what it is and that it's to drink).

Hehe, so your DD has more likely already weaned him for you? :-D

FindYourStrength how's your DD's weaning going? You said you were using Ella's Kitchen pouches - if you can find them, there's a new range called Piccolo which is just as good (few pennies cheaper) and likewise with Aldi.
Other than that I've overwhelmed myself with pre-making food and deciding when & what to give! DS hates brocolli and wasn't keen on apple either. Overall it's slowed his system down but he's parping like a trooper!! (doing so as I type!!)
