Ha, yes, a proper uniform! I don't think it's compulsory (anywhere in Wales if I recall correctly) but they strongly advise that children wear it and most do so DD will be wearing it. Even though she's only going for 2 1/2 hours a day!

DD hates hand driers too. I have to promise not to use them.

Wow, not long biscuits!

I'd go for it with your DS if he's interested, hungry!

Yes, DD seems very grown up nowadays. She's always appeared older than she is (in many respects) but she finally wants to be a big girl so that's it now. Speaking of being overtired, DD still needs her naps in the afternoon and she has an afternoon nursery session so she won't be able to have them any longer - that'll be fun!

BeanCalledPickle · 03/07/2016 09:07

I am so sick of constantly drying my hands on my trousers as I am never allowed to use a hand dryer. What is it with that!

She does seem very grown up now. Has her little girl gang at nursery and always asking for them to come round to play. Love that she has her own friends though slightly annoyed that she doesn't select them based on them being the children of my friends anymore :)

I'm baaaaaaack!

Haven't caught up with all your chat yet but thought I'd comment before I lost you again

RueDeWakening · 05/07/2016 20:41

Evening all! I'm back too - all hail the power of FB :o

Can we talk about poo? M is vehemently opposed to potty training, and appears to be developing a "thing" about poo. We haven't had one since Saturday, it's typically 4-5 days between, and causes him pain/discomfort/etc when he actually goes. He starts telling me he's "got poo" anywhere up to 48 hours before he actually goes, so could he be withholding deliberately? I am clueless, the other two were nothing like this and it's driving me batty. Any ideas welcome!

He hates hand dryers too, btw - DS1 at 6 has only recently started tolerating them. DD at 9 is fine using them herself - they must grow out of it at some point, but I couldn't tell you when :o

Biscuitswithtea · 05/07/2016 22:05

Rue - a friend had a similar problem with her potty training toddler - poos were/are an issue in a similar way. She is v careful about what he eats so that he doesn't get too bunged up. DS always had v soft poo until toilet training kicked in and then it became a bit more 3-dimensional!

If it's causing pain on a regular basis then I'd speak to a pharmacist or gp for advice. I'm generally of the view that the less stressful toilet training is the better!

RueDeWakening · 05/07/2016 22:30

Should have been clearer - we haven't actually started potty training yet, on account of these issues! He gets in a proper strop if we even mention pants.

The pharmacist suggested lactulose, but that's done/doing nothing so far. Suppositories are the next option apparently, but I can't see that working at all/ever. He's not the most co-operative!

HungryHorace · 07/07/2016 16:03

We give DD a dried apricot every morning. They work wonders for keeping a small child regular (and post c-section helped me, ha ha!).

She won't poo on anything yet, apart from a one-off massive poo in a potty (I would have been put off too!). She tends to save pooing for her overnight nappy, which she doesn't really need for wee, just poo.

I know that withholding can be an issue and we are trying to avoid it if possible. I would speak to your GP as they'll be used to the problem.

RueDeWakening · 07/07/2016 18:38

Ooh we haven't had apricots for ages, I'll try them thanks. He ate a pear at about 11pm last night, finally poo appeared about 11am today. and noon and 1pm and 2pm

I'll make an appointment with the GP I think, see what the options are.

Biscuitswithtea · 07/07/2016 19:19

Hope you get some sensible gp advice. I believe that bananas are to be avoided if constipation is an issue. Which is a pity as they are a brilliant portable snack.

Citrus fruit and sweetcorn often make DS too regular, like pear.

Lily withheld her poo for months as well. She only went once her pull up was on in the narrow window between me leaving her room after stories and her going to sleep.

Eventually my many many attempts to bribe her to poo on the potty got through to her and she went for it.

Now she's a poo monster and will go anywhere and everywhere. A public loo, a bush, nursery etc etc.

So it turns out baby didn't get the memo about being duenextmonth. DD was born yesterday afternoon, 6lbs 6!

My waters went first thing in the morning, admitted to hospital straight away (though no contractions at that point) because of group b strep. Contractions started after a sweep but failed to progress. Hormone drip in the afternoon and then went from 2cm - baby delivered in c2hrs!

DD is gorgeous and v sleepy. Feeding is stupendously slow at the moment but the midwives are being brilliant at supporting us in this.

Am still slightly stunned (hadn't even finished up at work yet) but v v happy. The contrast to DS's birth and how I felt afterwards is massive!

OP posts:
cuphat · 13/07/2016 16:51

Congratulations! Hope you're both doing well. How many weeks were you? I'm glad you're getting good support with feeding. It's still very early (I struggled to get DD to feed for more than two seconds at a time for the first week or so).

SunnyL · 13/07/2016 20:10

OMG! I was going to email to offer a play date since I thought you had another month or so to go. Fabby that she's here and well.

Hope the next few weeks go well and perhaps youll let us pop by for a visit. Cake

Biscuitswithtea · 14/07/2016 03:44

Ah well. A playdate of a different sort in a few wks Sunny? Lovely idea though :)

I got to 36+3. Only disappointment is that I hadn't even finished up at work so the aim of having 3weeks to chill at home while DS continued with nursery went out the window. So am not quite as rested as hoped but that's okay.

Night 2 in hospital and the ward is nosier. Hey ho. I hope with everything that we can go home on Fri! not that I anticipate homelife with a tiny tiny baby and a toddler to be easy!

OP posts:
SunnyL · 14/07/2016 15:32

Oh gawd are you in the ward or the midwifes unit? You have my sympathies if it's the ward. I had homicidal thoughts after 24 hours there.

RueDeWakening · 14/07/2016 16:13

Congratulations! :o Hope you're home soon and getting a bit more peace and quiet.

Biscuitswithtea · 14/07/2016 17:14

Ward. Have never seen the inside of the birth centre :( It is noisy. But the staff are brilliant thank heavens the food is not

The earliest we can get home is the end of tomorrow avo so there is a risk of being here til Sat. Having been in since Tues am, I may be climbing the walls by then!

OP posts:
SunnyL · 14/07/2016 19:31

Oh lord. A friend was in for a week with a jaundiced baby and survived by sending her partner at regular intervals to Costa coffee for chocolate brownies. He then made a pitstop via my bed and brought me some too. It was heaven!

Biscuitswithtea · 14/07/2016 20:29

There's a Costa?!? What???
Why has nobody told me this? I feel cheated!

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 14/07/2016 21:17

Congratulations, Biscuit! I hope you get home soon...postnatal wards are grim.

When were you meant to be finishing work? Bet they were shocked when you failed to turn in on Tuesday!

Biscuitswithtea · 15/07/2016 04:52

Yesterday was supposed to be my last day at work. Because I am part-time, Tuesday wasn't an office day as it happened. So DH had gone to work in the knowledge that he may need to come home pronto, I had cancelled a vet appt where our cat was supposed to have dental work, phoned triage and driven myself to hospital. Then phoned my boss from the labour ward to give her a heads up and arrange the cancellation of my final two days of work. I'd had a 1-1 with her on Monday so she was a bit surprised!

I have some stuff that's left unfinished at work but nothing essential now thankfully!

OP posts:
Biscuitswithtea · 18/07/2016 06:35

So we are still in hospital :( My sanity is being tested to the max!
DD has been having phototherapy since Fri lunchtime which means she can only come out from her 'sunbed' for feeds. There have been many tears (mine) but hopefully this am's blood test will say that she can have clothes on again and be held. I do so hope so!

OP posts:
RueDeWakening · 18/07/2016 11:49

Fingers crossed, Biscuits. Has she got the ridiculously small speedo nappy on though? That always made me smile when ds1 was under lights Smile

Biscuitswithtea · 19/07/2016 04:27

Speedo nappy?? There's an image! No, just a normal nappy. Which looks far from Speedo like - she'd probably fair better in whatever nappy size is pre-size 1.

We got home at the end of the afternoon yesterday and I'm so relieved. Hospital was doing my head in! DS was sooooo pleased when we all went to collect him from nursery :)

DD is giving us a good night lulling us into a false sense of security
Am so glad that we got the co sleeper this time. It makes life so much easier :)

Can't believe DD is 1 week old already though!

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 19/07/2016 07:53

Ah...it's lovely to go home, isn't it?

We really rated our co-sleeper; I'd always recommend one.

I can't imagine going back to newborn times though...DS is 2 on Sunday and baby days feel like forever ago!
