Peppa Pig World toilets have child seats attached - I didn't notice that last year!

Biscuitswithtea · 07/06/2016 07:39

I know we're only on day 4 of toilet training but it's going better than I thought it would. 1 accident at nursery all day yesterday which is amazing. Poos are still an enigma to him but that's understandable.
I totally advocate for waiting until child is ready. Far less stressful for everyone!
The down side of a child out of nappies is that everything takes twice as long. Normally we can get ds dressed and out the door for nursery without much dillydally. Now that he wants to go for a wee, and then go back to try a poo because he farted, we need to add c10mins onto the time it takes to get ready!

Me too, Biscuits. After failing so much we've had 6 dry days out of 7 now. She's upset with herself for the accidents day, but I've told her not to worry about it, bless her.

It's the first preschool test today. We shall see how that goes. Though iron bladder will probably just hold it in til she gets home. She went 7-2 without weeing yesterday.

HungryHorace · 07/06/2016 14:22

Oh god...I'm traumatised (this is way TMI!). She's used the potty to poo. Lovely, you say, necessary step. It was the biggest shit you've ever bloody seen! The sooner she graduates to the loo the better. Bloody hell.

Huzzah for DH being the one on hand to deal!

Biscuitswithtea · 07/06/2016 18:45

Haha, that's made me smile Hungry! Does she use the potty for everything? DS has managed with just one accident today though is brewing a poo His treat pasta jar will be full v soon!

(Have you noticed that toilet training has turned us into chatterboxes?!?)

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 07/06/2016 19:03

It has been potty for wees and knickers / nappy / pull ups for poo. Today's poo was a nice surprise and hopefully a sign of things to come. I think her next incentive after her 10 star toy (a star for a dry day and an extra star for a potty poo!) will be a toy for using the loo alongside the potty (I don't want her to start refusing the potty just before we go away!).

And it's nice to share experiences of potty training. I don't really have anywhere else to discuss such things as pooing on a potty! :-)

Biscuitswithtea · 07/06/2016 19:22

Well there is that. Not many people have toilet training high on their list of things to think about I suppose.

We were doing a piece of pasta if he gave us a heads up for the toilet/potty, and another if he actually did something. But he's doing so well that we either need a bigger jar or to slow down the rate of reward!

We have two toilets - one with an integrated flip down toddler seat and one with the Ikea toddler loo seat. Of course it's the cheap Ikea option that has been the winner!

Can this mini heat wave go away now please? I do not like being preggers in muggy heat :(

HungryHorace · 07/06/2016 19:45

We have one loo which has the option of a drop down seat or a froggy step padded seat. She occasionally gets on the frog but hasn't actually wee'd on the loo since about a year ago!

She's having chocolate as a treat. Just a couple of Milky Way Stars each successful attempt. They will have to be reduced once she's got the hang of the loo though!

It was hot when we were pregnant with this lot. And scorching the week before I had DS. I think I'd want a winter baby if I had a third (I'm not having another though!).

Biscuitswithtea · 07/06/2016 19:52

You're right, it was hot when this lot were due. I remember chain eating tesco pink lemonade ice lollies. They were amazing but alas they don't make them anymore. Have retreated to bed while DH does bedtime negotiations with DS!

SunnyL · 07/06/2016 21:56

I have to say what Lil produces defies the laws of physics. How can a child that size produce a poo so large. I swear this morning it curled round the potty twice. Must remember not to give her 2 corn on the cob for tea again Blush

cuphat · 07/06/2016 22:46

Ha at the previous posts!

I'd hate a winter baby but partly from a bf point of view (spent most of the first couple of months half naked - wouldn't fancy that in winter!). I love having their birthdays at this time of year and theirs being a week apart has worked out great this year (it wasn't too long for DD to wait for hers after DS had his presents!). It's also a nice gap from Christmas. DH was on leave so we had two weeks together to celebrate. We were lucky and had two whole weeks of sunshine, and we had an amazing time. Back to normal now.

HungryHorace · 08/06/2016 06:21

I think I'd prefer cooler breast feeding really...those hot, sweaty, slimy feeds didn't do much for me! And my week in hospital before DS was born was utterly unbearable in the heat.

I think I have poo envy, Sunny. I have IBS which makes me constipated. I'd love to have s big poo, ha ha! I definitely need to get DD on the loo though. Thank god I'm at work mostly so it's not my job to sort!

BeanCalledPickle · 08/06/2016 13:51

This is actually disgusting chat:)

Woman at work brought her kid in yesterday. Started to scrunch her face up. I said 'are you doing a poo poo' and realised that I don't routinely use such words at work. And that's probably a good thing.

Polly's been pretty much dry for a few months now. She does need coercing on occasion though. And she had what I thought was a bladder infection a couple of weeks ago where she did three wees in pants at nursery.

How long before we are brave enough to not take three changes of clothes out with us?!?

Biscuitswithtea · 12/06/2016 09:28

Bean - DS goes to nursery with 5 changes of clothes! Shock (He is there for 10+hrs a day mind you...)

Toilet training is going okay in the main but yesterday was an oddly off day and he kept saying his wees were hot. I can only assume they were sore in some way. We made him drink as much as possible and this morning he has been more willing to wee and also tells me that it's not hot any more. Poor scone :(

HungryHorace · 14/06/2016 18:08

DD has a few pairs of knickers, a couple of sets of bottoms plus a top. She only goes for the morning though.

She's doing really well with potty training now. She's only had 1 day in the last 14 where she's wet herself. Today she's actually been using the potty without reminders. She did fail to get her leggings and knickers off for one of the goes, but actually taking herself is an improvement, so we will let that one go!

I'm still not sure how we've got to them all being 3 already. How did that happen?!

BeanCalledPickle · 14/06/2016 21:59

What is particularly insane is that I have just managed to get an after school club place confirmed. Have not applied for school of course. But we live 0.25 from a school that normally takes up to 0.4. It has an after school club but no places until year three. There is a private after school club that picks them up from the classroom and walks them there. It's only six quid. Hugely sought after so much so that I put her name down six months ago and they've confirmed they will only have three spots next year of which Polly will be one. Such a relief! No idea what we would do otherwise!

HungryHorace · 14/06/2016 22:25

Well sorted! :-) If that was the type of thing we needed I'd have done it too.

Will she go every day, or just the 3 days you're both at work?

SunnyL · 14/06/2016 22:57

Well done Bean. They started building a new primary school in our village yesterday and will be knocking down the old one once it's built so Lil will have a brand spanking new school to go to. They're also meant to be building a new nursery as well but they haven't got planning yet. I hope they don't get it for at least 5 years because it's in a different place so I'd have to drive and at the moment we walk which is so much nicer

BeanCalledPickle · 15/06/2016 08:04

I think at the outset we will stick with our four day weeks each. I'm off Monday's and Sean on Wednesdays. Will be weird just being at home with the small one. Once she's in school as well a day off in the week would feel rather indulgent!

I think arranging wraparound is trickier than organising nursery. To a certain extent you can get what you need as long as you are prepared to throw money at it. School is all about where you live. Though my mother tells me it will all become easier 'when we leave the EU'.

HungryHorace · 22/06/2016 23:35

Interesting development on holiday...DD loves the loo seat setting of the potette and has used it every time we are out instead of the potty setting. She used it on the loo in the house too. Maybe we are finally transitioning to using the loo.

She's not had a wee accident for about 3 weeks now, which is great. Just need to sort poo (though she's had loads of dairy on the form of ice cream on holiday so probably won't poo for a week!).

She's almost always dry overnight too, which is rather good. :-)

She's 3 tomorrow...and already has threenager traits. Joy! (Especially combined with a 2 year old as well!)

Biscuitswithtea · 23/06/2016 22:52

Hope your dd had a good birthday Hungry :)
And great that she's doing so well with toilets and potties.

DS has been dry for two days on the trot (poos are still a challenge) but I will take any small victory!

Am getting to the huffing and puffing stage of pregnancy. Found stretch marks today on bump (grumble grumble) and physio gave me crutches earlier in the wk too (grumble grumble). But it's not long to go now and I should be appreciating every moment of downtime that comes my way this now!

OP posts:
cuphat · 28/06/2016 13:14

Hope the toilet training is still going well, hungry and biscuits.

DD is there I think, with no accidents for weeks (months even). Due to health reasons I can't be left alone with the children for six weeks (as I can't lift them) so I've had company when out and about which has worked out well. We had a day in town the other day and she was fine (I wasn't!); I would have been worried doing that alone! As it turns out the loos there are great; there are large private rooms with two toilets inside (one child sized) and enough room for a pushchair too.

DD is also in her big girl bed now. She asked to have the sides off last week and she's been great, both at night time and for naps (which surprised us!). So there's a lot to be said for waiting till they're really ready.

We've been to see her nursery, which looks lovely. The paperwork from them also says they have to be toilet trained (though they're ok with the odd accident)! She'll be having a uniform - it seems so young!

BeanCalledPickle · 30/06/2016 17:20

A proper uniform for nursery?! Polly has a uniform of the most skanky and disgusting clothes she owns. She generally comes home looking like she's been coal mining.

Biscuitswithtea · 01/07/2016 06:32

Sounds like DD is doing really well Cup :) But goodness it must be tricky at the mo if you can't lift them.

DS is getting there. At home he can be accident free all day and will, with a little encouragement, poo in the toilet now. At nursery there are accidents - sometimes because he doesn't pull his pants down far enough and pees on them anyway. I understand that they are encouraging independent toileting but he still needs 1-1 help at the mo. Which nursery are going with for now which is good. The other problem with nursery toilets is that they use automatic hand driers. Which terrify DS. So now he has a 'thing' about washing his hands because he doesn't want to dry them afterwards, but nor does he like them being wet. But lots of children are scared of hand driers aren't they?

The end of pregnancy is looming. 35 wks tomorrow! We tried to write a birth plan this week but are struggling to engage with that process after last time when virtually everything turned out different to our preferences.

On the plus side, midwife might be able to start doing sweeps from 38/39 weeks. Which would be great as induction is being recommended by 41wks and I am keen to avoid that if possible!

Hope everyone is okay :)

HungryHorace · 01/07/2016 19:58

If we were sending DD to preschool at a school she'd have a uniform. As it is, she's staying at her private preschool next year (DS is joining her) and increasing her hours to just below 15.

35 weeks? Romping away now, Biscuits! I didn't bother with a birth plan for DD. Good job as it all went tits up from the second my waters broke! Exiting safely was my only plan, so at least that was achieved. :-)

DD is scared of hand dryers too. Hates them. We aren't having much luck with poo, but she does tend to do it first thing in her overnight nappy which is actually mostly dry these days. Once poo is sorted I think she'll be out of nappies totally.

We are going to try to potty train DS too as he's been interested since we've had success with DD!

Does anyone else's child suddenly seem really grown up now they're 3? DD even looks much older and just seems to have had a switch go in her head about being older. Definitely nowhere near a baby now. Except when she's overtired and a crying mess!
