DD often says "wait till daddy sees" when she's made things etc so I played on that a bit too when she showed an interest. "Wait till daddy sees when he gets back" etc.

I bribed encouraged her with a present too. And made myself stay positive even during the accidents of the first day (remembering some of the book I'd read ages ago!).

HungryHorace · 28/04/2016 08:58

Cool. I shall be chatting to her later on then! :-)

She is almost there. It's the final psychological step that she needs to get over. Physically she's perfectly able.

HungryHorace · 28/04/2016 15:15

So, she's decided she wants the nappy fairy to come straight away and take her daytime pants away (she wears pull-ups) so she can wear her knickers.

I wasn't expecting her to say that!

cuphat · 28/04/2016 15:48

Excellent! Hope it's as quick for you. No accidents today, I still can't believe how quickly she's got it (so far - being out without a loo nearby will be the test!).

HungryHorace · 28/04/2016 16:44

If she actually consistently uses the potty / loo it'd be fine. It's her aversion to that which has been the problem!

I'm not optimistic.

HungryHorace · 28/04/2016 20:02

Ah. I thought it was too good to be true. She woke up almost as soon as she'd gone to bed, crying, saying she didn't want the nappy fairy to come. So we've said she won't until she's properly ready for her to.

Poor chick!

cuphat · 28/04/2016 21:30

Bless her, I bet she'll have a think about it and be asking when she's going to come before long. DD was the same. :)

That was exactly the problem we've had - she's been physically able for a long time and would use the loo every now and again but she just wasn't interested in doing it permamently. She didn't want to be a big girl and was happy in nappies. So now she's made the decision herself she's absolutely fine.

We're not using a potty at all and only have an upstairs loo so I was worried about how she'd do getting up there in time (she'd only ever gone on the loo when we were upstairs anyway) but she's absolutely fine.

SunnyL · 28/04/2016 21:52

I do love the way you say something to them once, they chew it over internally and then weeks later bring it up. In our case it's normally a 3rd party like Granny, nursery or the checkout lady in Asda who gets told all about it.

For example she heard us say I'd like to get her a pony ride when we go to Center Parcs in September. So she declared to some horse riders on Sunday that she was going to have the brown one. They were a tad confused Confused

BeanCalledPickle · 28/04/2016 22:13

I totally agree with the idea of waiting until they are ready and then they just get on with it. The only problem with this is what if they don't declare themselves ready in a year?! I've known people who've enforced it at 3.5 and it's just painful. I wish there was some one size fits all solution. Polly's pretty good now but still has the odd accident. When she's distracted by something she might forget. Or in a spectacular jealous rage the other day did a massive wee on the floor to force me to put the baby down.

Glad you got your place. Nursery is basically the best thing ever. She will never want a home day ever again! Polly gets so very bored of us.

Interesting feedback from parents evening. We had thought we should psych her up by saying that Juno was starting in the baby room. Apparently she got herself all confused and stressed and couldn't understand why we had said that but kept taking the baby to nursery and disappearing again. She knows we go to work so couldn't understand where Juno was going and got herself all worried about her. As soon as the baby started she calmed right down and is now back to her happy self. Kind of wish they had told me but they weren't sure what the problem is until the solution became clear!

HungryHorace · 28/04/2016 23:03

We only have a downstairs loo / bathroom, so DD has a potty in her bedroom (as does DS as DD insisted he got one too!).

DH thinks she's actually hates the idea of fairies. Not amazingly useful!

cuphat · 28/04/2016 23:32

I don't think DD knows what a fairy is to be honest, though she definitely hated the idea of the nappy fairy! She got the concept and that was enough.

HungryHorace · 28/04/2016 23:54

I showed DD some pictures from Google. Mistake!

HungryHorace · 29/04/2016 06:35

Oh god. I've fucked up here. DD was up for 45 minutes at 3am talking about the nappy fairy and whether she was coming. This has all gone wrong!

Biscuitswithtea · 29/04/2016 08:40

Oops Hungry! It's impossible to know how they're going to react to stuff and I'm sure they process stuff in their sleep and then talk utter nonsense in the night
DS has been worrying about lions and tigers in his room at bedtime, we reassure him and then it's fine. But it made me think more carefully about how we decorate his new room (had been considering those jolly wall stickers!)

No interest in potty training at the moment so we're waiting for interest to re-strike.

Oh bless you Hungry. If it's any consolation we can only go into the woods if we are clutching her toy mouse in case the Gruffalo comes. I once suggested we could go look for the Gruffalo and scared the shit out of her. Equally her book We're Going On A Bear Hunt is not allowed in her room because it's too scary. It lives on the landing Wink

HungryHorace · 29/04/2016 09:08

I had to read that bloody book 5 times yesterday! What kind of parents take their 3 small kids on a sodding bear hunt anyway?!

Biscuitswithtea · 29/04/2016 09:44

Julia Donaldson has a lot to answer for! DS announced this morning that the gruffalo was coming to get us

OP posts:
cuphat · 29/04/2016 13:03

Oh no hungry! DD was ok once I reassured her that she would only come if she wanted her to.

DD jumped back the other day and it turned out she had glanced at the mini hoover and thought that it had suddenly developed an eye! She'd just noticed the hole that you plug the charger into!

Still no explanation as to what's on the wall though (can't remember if I've posted that story here). I'm not sure I want to know.

DD loves bear hunt! We have to act it out when we go into a woody area near here.

She has told me to give room on the broom to the other children though. She loves witches (loves meg and mog) but doesn't like everything falling off the broom, she gets upset at things like that! And she's not a massive fan of the gruffalo.

SunnyL · 03/05/2016 12:34

My littlest girl is falling apart.

Her kidney needs another scan as the last scan suggests she has kidney reflux.

Her hips are being checked out on monday because they're concerned (my brother wore a brace for the first 6 months of his life).

And now she's showing signs of reflux like her sister so I'm thinking of going dairy free again. I'm going to ask the HV on monday about gaviscon.

Otherwise everything is rosy

BeanCalledPickle · 03/05/2016 13:49

Poor baby girl!! Are you ok? Flowers

Biscuitswithtea · 03/05/2016 14:45

Oh no : ( That sounds tough. Hope you're all hanging in there okay?

Is B unsettled?

OP posts:
SunnyL · 04/05/2016 12:13

She's not the most easy going baby - DH has barely had a cuddle from her since she was born. She just seems to want me and won't take a bottle. Had a bit of a meltdown last night at DH who was very good and took it (despite him having done nothing wrong). I think both of us are ready for this little little baby thing to be over soon.

Biscuitswithtea · 04/05/2016 18:27

:( Hugs. DS was a bottle refuser which was hard and restricting but I imagine even harder with subsequent babies. FlowersCakeBrew

cuphat · 04/05/2016 19:52

I'm sorry sunny.

No bottles here either and I find it really tough, especially in the early stages. I crave space. I'm looking forward to stopping bf - I've feel like I've done my time. I hate the baby stage.

BeanCalledPickle · 05/05/2016 15:44

You really aren't required to cherish every moment. The early baby days are bloody hideous in my opinion. One day at a time. You will get there.
