Well the girls are Mercedes and Ferrari! Angry

Biscuitswithtea · 25/03/2016 19:43

Ah but Sunny - you ultimately get the final right to veto. It's your right after being pregnant for what feels like forever ;)

Genuinely? I was assuming Jenson!

SunnyL · 26/03/2016 05:42

Ha ha - not genuine Bean.

Though DH keeps trying out their names out loud to see if a traffic cop uttering it would be pleased ie "who do you think you are? Jensen Button?"

Apparently any name needs to be strong enough for when they win the F1 -boy or girl. He's not a sexist Grin

Can anyone recommend a bed guard for a cotbed please (that comes in white)? Spent ages looking and I've confused myself. Decided on one by safetots as it appeared to meet all criteria (white, easy to travel with, folds down nicely) but although it says it fits most cotbeds, the small print says it needs a mattress size of 90x150, when our cotbed (and others I've seen) is 70x140cm! Had another one short listed but reviews say it doesn't look as pictured and comes with horrible disclaimers visible. Please help!

SunnyL · 26/03/2016 13:02

She's here!! Amazingly quick and straightforward labour after the last time. Contractions started at 5am, arrived at hospital at 8.30 got into the pool at 9.30 and baby arrived at 10.30 - 60 hours quicker than her sister took 3 years ago Shock

Little cutie though. She's called Beatrice which is my mum's middle name.

cuphat · 26/03/2016 14:11

Congratulations! Glad you had a good labour and lovely name :)

HungryHorace · 26/03/2016 15:45

Oh wow, well done! :-)

Beatrice is a lovely name. Congratulations all of you!

BeanCalledPickle · 26/03/2016 17:46

Congratulations! Love the name. Glad the experience was great. What does lily think?

Cup- I don't think many bed guards work very well on cotbeds. They are designed more for full size singles and just don't rest well without the weight of a proper bed on top of them. We tried for a bit and then just moved to a big girl bed. Others I know just did cot bed without guard as not far to fall!

BibbidiBobbidiBoo1 · 26/03/2016 18:04

Congratulations Sunny! So pleased it was all straight forward, enjoy being a family of 4!

Biscuitswithtea · 26/03/2016 19:20

Hooray! Congratulations Sunny and welcome to the world Beatrice :)

Thank you Bean, will try without first then. DD moves around so much in her sleep that I can see her falling out regularly!

cuphat · 26/03/2016 23:24

I think she'd happily stay in there with the sides on until she's 5 but we're going for it as it'll make going away easier (I think?!).

HungryHorace · 27/03/2016 07:58

DD went into a single bed after having to sleep in one while we were away last year. There was already one in her room and she kept making a beeline for it (and we took the side off her cot bed and would find her in the single bed when we went to get her up!) so we got her some bedding and had no problem at all. She's never got out of bed and wandered round at all.

We are considering putting DS in a bed too as I think he's waking himself up hitting the sides all of the time. I was just going to put a bed guard on the cot bed until I read this thread, so now I know that's a no no!

cuphat · 27/03/2016 09:04

I'm glad I asked and didn't waste money! She's ok with the idea of the sides coming off (which will happen today) although she keeps saying that we're going to break her cot! However she's adamant that she wants to stay in a sleeping bag. One thing at a time...

I hope she doesn't wander around! We have a video monitor now so will watch with interest.

BeanCalledPickle · 27/03/2016 09:48

Ah I think it may be a different scenario if she's still in a sleeping bag (how the hell is that even possible? Polly was climbing out of hers 18 months ago!). If she rolls out she won't be able to get back in if she's in a bag. It could end up causing you more hassle than it's worth. I think you probably need to do it the other way round- duvet then bed. Ultimately if she's still in a sleeping bag then taking the sides off won't really make a difference until she's free to get in and out of bed. Polly now gets up and goes to the loo in the night without much help if any. Can't remember where you've got to with toilet training but that's another factor !

HungryHorace · 27/03/2016 11:06

I'm impressed with that...DD absolutely refuses to use either a potty or the loo!

BeanCalledPickle · 27/03/2016 12:46

One of those things I wish I could take credit for but really can't! She went from being quite happy to fester in her own filth to suddenly finding it abhorrent. Ahe wears a a pull up to bed but still wakes up if she needs a wee. She doesn't need help with just a wee but invariably asks for it. I had foolishly believed that the baby sleeping through marked the end of waking up at night but this has replaced it! I can hardly tell her no, do it in your nappy. Wish I could though! I think nursery made the difference; they have a bank of little toilets and all like going together it seems

Biscuitswithtea · 27/03/2016 13:20

DS is in a small toddler bed at the mo. TBH it's smaller than we'd have chosen but we were given it as a hand me down and in his current room there's no space for a proper single bed. He doesn't fall out but does toddle through to us, sneak into bed and fall asleep again. He's moving into a much bigger room soon and we're aiming to wean him onto a proper single (well, actually one of those Ikea Hemnes day beds in single bed mode). Once bump is ready for anything other than a cot we'll consider the whole bunk bed debate. Buggered if we're buying any more beds before we have to and there are enough beds in the house at the moment :) just no more overnight visitors pls!

We are channelling low grade constant stress at the mo. Things keep breaking/needing attention. As stand alone things they would be fine but the accumulation is doing our heads in! (Broken boiler/car needed fixed/DH's old flat that we rent out cause it's been a sod to sell has a broken window/etc etc etc) And moan over! :)

cuphat · 27/03/2016 17:59

You'd be surprised; she can walk around and climb in her sleeping bag no problem!

Good point re toilet training. Toilet training not happening yet though as she isn't interested. She'll use the loo and wear knickers every now and again but not on a permanent basis. She likes changing knickers every 10 mins on days she's interested, so if she goes on the loo she wants to choose a new pair afterwards and if she goes when off the loo then that's good too as she gets a new pair then!

Looks like it's being moved to tomorrow as we have a poorly baby again.

DD is tall but due to the way she sleeps, her cotbed will probably last a few more years!

I know the feeling, biscuits. It's one thing after another here.

HungryHorace · 28/03/2016 11:49

I think we are just going to have to go cold turkey with DD and hope that she decides that using the loo / potty is better than just going in her knickers! She can hold on for hours and knows when she's going, so she surely can't be far off!

cuphat · 28/03/2016 17:14

Same here, hungry. She was ready and eager just before I had DS but I wasn't in a fit state to do it then.

Nap time was a disaster with the sides off. In hindsight we should have left it until DS is better as he's sleeping lots during the day. She kept wandering around upstairs, shutting and opening doors. Will give it a try tonight but might end up putting the sides back on for now!

HungryHorace · 28/03/2016 23:01

DD seemed REALLY keen just before she turned 2. Loved sitting on the padded frog loo seat / step combo thingy. Then she suddenly went off the idea.

We then had some success relatively recently but then again, decided against it.

We are already having clothing battles with her (she's rejecting her new 3-4 wardrobe) so we aren't up for another bloody battle.

It's ridiculous. She can count to 80 and knows her alphabet and can spell words to us. Why isn't potty training happening?!?!

cuphat · 29/03/2016 08:20

I think with DD she just doesn't want to be a 'big girl' yet as she is also advanced in most other ways.

She's always been laid back in that she's happy to stay in her pushchair when I need her to and she has never tried to get out of her cot. She hates mess in general and regularly tries to clean up but for some reason that doesn't extend to nappies - even as a young baby she never cried to be changed (whereas DS did).

Last night was a disaster too! After 90 minutes of her climbing in and out of bed (easy in a sleeping bag apparently) and walking around opening and shutting doors we gave in and DH put the sides back on. The 'going to break her cot' comment was a clue. It turns out she likes her cot and doesn't want a bed yet so I don't think we'll get anywhere until she's ready. Now she's seen it, the seed will have been planted (though DH said he's not changing it back anytime soon as it takes too long!) so she'll probably want it back at some point.

That's a pain re the wardrobe as it costs a fortune (currently building DD's 3-4 up as she'll be going in it soon). I normally ask if she likes things before I buy them (mainly because I'm often indecisive) so she'd better be ok with it!

She's definitely showing her independence a bit more now though!

SunnyL · 29/03/2016 11:10

Yes I've started involving Lil in my shopping for her clothes as it means she'll actually wear them.

I was getting v frustrated that all the lovely dresses I was making her weren't getting worn til someone suggested getting her involved. This led to her sitting behind me on my sewing chair shouting "hurry up mummy!" as I hemmed her new dress Shock
