Good luck with the hearing test today Jnr Joskar!

I do tummy time everyday BUT that's because she's always been better on her front and it's totally my comfort zone. My child has had more physio than most patients!! Grin She does about 40mins a day in total but that counts time spent tummy to tummy with me, held upright/sling, playing airplane and face planting on the baby gym too. Yes it's great to do and will help strengthen them but it's not something to force your LO into if they hate it. But if they do hate going solo face down on the play mat it sometimes helps them if you are the playmat and lay on the floor with them on top of you. Face down on the playmat is not the be all and end all though!!

Today will be a relaxing sort of day! We had my folks up this weekend but then had a mad rush yesterday afternoon getting them a train down to London as all the flights were cancelled out of Glasgow due to fog at gatwick! Is it still a pea-souper down south this morning?!

Am a bit nervous about today, as I have an appointment about my Crohn's. Am really worried they will decide I need to go back on medication that means I can't bf. I feel absolutely fine, but from past experience I seem to not have symptoms even when my blood tests show I'm ill. So keeping my fingers crossed my complete lack of symptoms actually means something good this time.

It's at the hospital where J was born, so was planning to pop up to the ward we stayed in for the week after he was born to say hello to the staff and show him off a bit!

Frolicacid · 02/11/2015 08:13

Morning all! Ds did a good sleep after all the upset during the day. He seems quite jolly so far this morning, so here's hoping for a better day.
The poor dog has had dh up all night. Her tummy seems to have reacted to something they gave her after the op. Dh is being s superstar and taking the day off to sort her out.

I have t got time to reply properly, but just to say yo giraffes that I've moved ds' second injections back by a week. We have fil coming to stay so I thought it would be best. The lady in the clinic said it's fine to wait. I hope the little one feels better.

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/11/2015 08:40

Morning. Sad today isnt a good day. I slipped yesterday and hurt my hip. Fair dos, not too painful, could still walk, albeit with a limp. Woke up this morning and my hip and back feel like they are on fire.

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/11/2015 08:41

Tummy time.... Actually putting him on the mat is a no go as he just screams the house down. But he spends loads of time on me and has fab head control so not worried.

Fanby · 02/11/2015 09:37

We just tried the airoplane shin tummy time-got some smiles, a revelation! Thanks for the link tindel! Best of luck with your crohns appointment!!

Mzzzf - Yep!!! It's still eerily misty and foggy daaaawn saaaaarf!! No sign of clearing!

Frolic - glad one out of two of your babies is better, hope frolic dog enjoys the fuss your DH can give him today

X

OH and forgot to tell you all about project nap - nanna managed to put molly in her cot for a morning 'cat nap' (literally due to her Halloween costume), only lasted for as long as we had breakfast but go nana! Love my mum! X

Fanby · 02/11/2015 09:39

Oh that's crap fatty! Can you have a bath? I often find a soak helps with those kind of injury aches x

FattyNinjaOwl · 02/11/2015 09:42

I can't lift my leg to get in on my own Confused and I would end up with one of the little ones wanting in with me Grin
I will be OK. I would say I will have an early night tonight but the walking dead is on Grin

everythingispeachy · 02/11/2015 10:02

Morning all! We had a pretty good night ds2 went down at 8 ish up at 2 ish then back down till 6.30 when ds1 got up anyway. So much better then the constant grumbles and groans between 3 and 6.

I hardly ever do tummy time as in face down on the gym but he is in the sling a lot, on me and, confession time, I sometimes put him down for naps on his tummy. Thanks for the link tindel there are some good strategies there. I hope your appointment goes well.

Joskar that book sounds good I'll look it out. I am a Roots of Empathy instructor and looking at the baby and reading their signals is a key part of the programme. I should do that more because ds2 rarely seems upset by ds1 vigorous play but it's hard with your own baby. Good luck today with the hearing test.

Fatty hope your hip improves, bed rest and chocolate until it does.

I have just dropped ds1 at playgroup and ds2 is napping so I should sort out stuff for the charity shop and tidy up but Gilmore girls is about to start...

sianihedgehog · 02/11/2015 10:03

Fanby we do tummy time occasionally when I think of it! DS was born with good head control like Giraffes baby, and still has excellent head control so I don't worry too much really. And he spends time in the sling most days, and lying on his dad's chest, and all that stuff counts as tummy time.

Clstow · 02/11/2015 10:30

Aaargh just wrote a massive post and lost it. Screw you MN!

In summary:

Fanby I'm mad that other mum made you feel bad. A loves tummy time (even sleeps on his front) but I know lots of babies don't and none of their heads have fallen off.

Joskar and Tindel - best of luck at the appointments today.

Fatty - hope you feel better and get your feet up at some point today.

Giraffes - I've just postponed A's jabs as he has a cold and the surgery said it was better to leave a longer gap than overload his immune system.

Bloody hope last nights crap sleep is growth spurt related. I've forgotten how to deal with feeling like a zombie, need caffeine and cake stat.

Have a good day all, anyone else in the south concerned about mislaying their baby in this fog?!

Fanby · 02/11/2015 10:41

Oh fatty! It'd be like 'five minutes peace' when all mummy elephant wants is a bath without her babies lol.

Everything - that sounds like some good sleep! Well done to your little ones!!

Clstow - yes I was a little bit taken a back but I guess it was from a good place. The only good thing is a) I'll probably try more often and b) I told DH that I thought I failed her and he said straight away its 'we' not 'I' so it was lovely to hear him have so much of an interest if that makes sense.

The fog is horrendous, therefore it's my excuse to stay in haha. She's asleep after me reading 'we're going on a bear hunt' to her, my jackanory voice obv worked! Grin

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 02/11/2015 11:27

Morning all peering through the fog at the Southerners. Hope everyone had a good night.

Tummy time - pah! I'm definitely crap Mummy when it comes to that one. I used to forget to put grumpy 1 down that way round (and when I did she hated it) and I'm the same with grumpy 2. G1 had rubbish head control until quite late and didn't walk until 18 months but said her first work (cat) at 9 months and was competently speaking by a year. G2, despite enduring the same crap parenting has amazing head control so far and can load bear on her legs in a way G1 never did. Who knows when she will speak? They all develop at their own pace and I'm pleased to say that G1 at 4 has very good head control now Grin

Oops, got to dash, the dwarf is stirring. Catch up with the rest of the posts later x

rrra · 02/11/2015 12:32

Sorry, have been reading but can't scroll back to see who said what.

I hope those with hospital appointments soon find things go well.

Re tummy time, I didn't do much with DD as she hated it. But she had reflux and struggled a lot in the first three months. She did spend time on us and in a sling. But she was behind developmentally and didn't crawl until 15m and walked a week after her second birthday. All fine now at 3.5y, and I doubt tummy time had anything to do with it. DS has had strong neck muscles since birth and can hold his head up well. He doesn't like tummy time either, but due to non solo napping status he does spend a lot of time in the sling! I'm fairly certain he'll do physical things earlier than his sister did.

So, tried some solo napping on sat in the pushchair in the kitchen. Sort of worked for 20 mins, but his sister is so noisy her voice just kept waking him up! Busy day out of the house yesterday, so trying again today. We've just caught up on the apprentice and he was still sleepy so I've brought him up to his sisters room (has the monitor). Already put him down once and woke up 5 mins later. Just put him down again on his side and is still asleep. Will see. I'm just perched on the edge of the bed not doing anything useful!!

It is foggy here and not going to go out, bar nursery run. Need a quiet day after epic 10am-7pm birthday celebrations for a friends 3yo yesterday! Started at softplay, then back to theirs for lunch and cake. Turned into an all afternoon event and stayed for tea too! Well worth it to keep the toddler entertained!!

Sleep Ok here. Seem to be doing 8.30 to 2 ish, then sometimes through to 6 but sometimes 4,5 and 6 like this morning! Did get a couple of 9pm - 4am, but must have been a fluke. DS is 9 weeks now.

rrra · 02/11/2015 12:35

Also love Mugabe nights and bar. I remember hooch, the alcoholic lemonade! Probably disgusting and sweet now. Sad times that I missed out on tickets to work Xmas party, probably the only chance I had to go out and have a drink anytime soon! Only outing I have to look forward to it taking DD to a party next Sunday alone, as hoping to leave DS with my H and some expressed milk. Go me!

Frolicacid · 02/11/2015 13:22

Good Afternoon !
Ds seems fine today, so who knows what was up yesterday. The dog is on 24 hour starvation and looks very sorry for herself. We are having a quiet day in, despite the glorious weather. I'm just going to have to pretend I'm down south in the fog with some of you.

I'm trying to get ds to nap during the day without a long pram walk first. He's done ok so far with an hour in the sleepyhead in his crib this morning and 45 mins just now in his chair.
We've discovered that he likes something on his face to sleep, so are using a little comforter toy thing. He seems able to breathe fine and will bat it out of the way if he wants to, so I'm assuming that, despite looking dreadful, this is not dangerous.

Re: tummy time, ds HATES it when I turn him over on the play mat. He seems to have a pretty strong neck, and I'm doing the other things instead of just lying him down flat. He spends loads of time on our shoulders and in the sling.

I hope the hearing test goes ok jockstar and that you get to enjoy a nice day out.

I hope your appointment goes ok as well tindel. enjoy your ward visit. Thank you for the tummy time link.

Feel better soon fatty.

I've just had a google of roots of empathy everything. It sounds great. I do a lot of work in schools and I'm surprised I've not heard of it before. Thanks for mentioning it - definetly one to look further into.

I hope the rest of Monday is a good one for you all Smile

GiraffesCanDance1 · 02/11/2015 15:05

Clstow sorry to hear about the lack of sleep, hope baby is better tonight!

I'll have a Reef at the bar and a Smirnoff Ice Smile

I took baby giraffe for her jabs but declined the rotavirus oral one due to her recent tummy trouble. The nurse was a bit Hmm but I did what I felt was right. I'm also opting to have the next meningitis B vaccine done a week after the other vaccines as baby seemed very out of sorts last time and I've read spacing them out slightly can make it easier, albeit more trips to see the nurse.

tindel good luck with your Crohns appt! I would be very interested to hear your consultants view on weaning and general diet info regarding avoided our babies getting Crohns. My dhs suggested later weaning and no red meat in diet.

Catch you later Smile

Tindel · 02/11/2015 15:49

Thanks for the support. Appointment went well - am staying off all meds and going back in 6 months. I did ask about anything I should be aware of for J and Crohn's, but my consultant said the risk of him developing it is so slight, there's no need to do anything different.

It was lovely going back to the ward - I saw a few of the staff who looked after us and they cooed over J and commented how big and healthy he looked. Very happy mummy today.

He's currently napping on me, having fought off naps all day, so might leave it a bit before going to pick up the shopping

GiraffesCanDance1 · 02/11/2015 17:16

Tindel how lovely that you visited the ward! Time is going so fast with our babies, it seems like so long ago that they were born, pregnancy seems a lifetime ago! That's interesting about the consultant. My dh was told the risk is 5% per child due to genetics, which is a small risk I suppose Smile

Tindel · 02/11/2015 17:39

Giraffes as I stayed in for a week, I got to know a lot of the staff and they were amazing to J and I. They helped establish bfing when J was premature, jaundiced and tube-fed for his first few days, they looked after me after emcs, they helped me get to grips with so many aspects of motherhood. I went to the clinic at 35 weeks for a blood pressure check and I left a week later with J. I hadn't packed my hospital bag, I had barely started the parenting book I'd bought, I was totally unprepared to care for this little scrap they handed me. They were kind, patient and on my side. They kept telling me how lovely J was and that we would be out of there soon and what felt like a dark, scary time would soon be a distant memory.

They were right on all counts and it was lovely to go back and see them.

Not sure what to think about the Crohn's, might email the IBD nurses about the weaning question as and when it arises

everythingispeachy · 02/11/2015 20:03

I know you should never wake a sleeping baby but ds2 has been asleep since about 4. He fell asleep on me then I transferred him into his crib in our room. I went in and started tidying up with the lights on at 7.15. Got him up, awake and feed him at 7.30 and he's fallen asleep again. I fear this is his good 6 hour start of the night stretch and I am in for a long night!

mzzzf · 02/11/2015 20:44

I feel your pain Everything! Mini mzzzf did bath and attempted feed but actually did a giant vomit all over both of us. So I slung her to relax her and she's full on snoozing now. So do I take her up to her cot or let her keep catching flies on me?!

Bloody massive sick though, had sick in my fanjo for 2nd time in 2 weeks!!

OP posts:
Frolicacid · 02/11/2015 21:15

Evening all!
Calm is slowly returning to the frolic house. Ds has been in a lovely mood all day and even had a 4 hour nap this afternoon. Score! That gave me plenty of time to cuddle the old mutt, who seems to be on the mend now, thank goodness.
We've just had a lovely, crisp, trundle along the harbour with ds all snuggled up in the sling. The stars were out and the lights on the boats were all twinkly. Beautiful Smile

Reef? Now you are talking my language giraffes. I can't believe I'd forgotten about it. Lovely stuff - but a bit thick and sticky if you were sick!

I'm pleased for you that the appointment went well tindel. And those nurses sound so lovely. We too often hear the bad stories about the nhs these days, it's great to hear of good care.

I'll join you in fearing that a long nap might fuck the night up everything. Hopefully we won't meet at Mugabe nights later on.

Sick in your fanjo mzzf??!!! How on earth?!

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 02/11/2015 21:19

There must have been something in the air today mzzzf because we had massive sick as well. There was splatter up the walls Shock and the bedroom carpet proper got one. It was quite random too, no warning and 5 minutes before we had to leave to pick grumpy 1 up from school. Hmm, surely she can't be developing comic timing already??

tindel lovely that you were able to visit the ward, it sounds like you had an amazing team around you. I bet the midwives enjoyed seeing J again too - it must have been satisfying for them to see him doing so well.

fanby there is some cool stuff in the frugi sale at the moment. I am seriously eyeing up Molly's dungarees...

giraffes Interesting tip about spacing out the men B vaccine. It made grumpy 2 really quite poorly at 8 weeks, it's a lot for their tiny bodies to take on.

fatty how is the leg? And joskar how did the hearing test go?

Anyone else still waiting for their GP new baby check? I was told by the midwife that it should be at 6 weeks then my GP told me that they did them between 8 and 10 weeks. Grumpy 2 will be 10 weeks on Friday and I still haven't had an appointment letter so I can't imagine it will be this week now. I'm a bit grumpy myself about it as it is extra important that an eye is kept on her because of the effing pox. Might spin by the Drs tomorrow and make a nuisance of myself again.
