Hi all

I couldn't see a July 2015 thread so thought I'd start one. My daughter was born on the 6th and the last two weeks have been fun and tiring - with not much sleep!

Anyone else around?

We've been doing the hot water bottle since almost day 1 but it's not consistently successfully. However he's slept really well the last few nights. Like small's LO he's doing longer stretches, he did 10-4 last night Shock. I woke up in a major panic when I realised the time but he had a mammoth feed off both boobs then another 3 hours. I've given up on the hot water bottle as I'm too lazy to faff. We're trying to introduce sleep cues (got given those jelly cat little blankets with an animal head, eg a duck) so using those. I'm basically trying not to over-engineer it and just bunging him back in his basket and going back to sleep. As long as his tummy is full he seems happy enough so far. Long may it continue even though I know it won't and we've still to crack daytime sleeping.

Have my six week check tomorrow, hoping I get the go ahead to get back on my horse. If I can find the time! DS's one is not till he's over 8 weeks though. Genius.

Zampa · 10/09/2015 12:20

Some of you may remember me ... I fell off the July antenatal thread when DD was born 7 weeks early. I

t's been a real rollercoaster but she came home after 6 weeks in NICU and we have a battalion of therapists helping us out. She's defied expectations so far and we're hoping it will continue. First check up with her consultant next Monday, which we're anticipating with excitement/trepidation.

Raines100 · 10/09/2015 12:37

I remember you, Zampa! I'm sure it's been a roller coaster ride for you these past few weeks. Glad to hear your DD is doing ok. Hope she will just flourish for you now. Good luck for your appt. Do keep us updated x

Sparrowlegs248 · 10/09/2015 12:43

Afternoon all, its great to read other peoples updates. I don't know anyone with a New baby and have not been to any groups yet, HV was encouraging me yesterday but where on earth i'll find the time i don't know! I have a visit from mum, mil and usually one other each week. Shopping, Drs, etc. Attempting housework! Ponies to look after, cat back and forth to the vets. Oh yes and a 7wk old baby.

He is 7wk tomorrow. Had a mammoth cluster feed last night. Was weighed yesterday 10lb 5. 25th centile for weight and 91st for length!

I'm with those pp whose husbands get the feeding grizzly baby experience when they get home. Its really hard as DH leaves for work at 4.30am and gets home between 5 & 6 so really not much time. He hast really seen DSs lovely big smiles.

I have my 6wk check at the Dr today. Had to go a couple ofcdays ago as found a small pocket of pus on my c section scar. Ugh. Like a big spot but i'd had no issues til now. They put an iodine dressing on my(i think) and will have iy checkedcagain today.

smallgreenbanana · 10/09/2015 21:20

Of course we remember you Zampa. Great to hear from you with an update. Good luck for seeing the consultant!

SparklyPenguin · 11/09/2015 18:17

Hi all- good to hear from you Zampa , glad your LO is doing well. Plenty going on here, DS is now 9 weeks old and thriving- steady weight gain and no problems at his 8-week check. A mix-up at the clinic meant he's still waiting for his immunisations but should be done this week. Delighted to be seeing lots of gummy smiles these days too! Less luck for me, I've got a suspected breast abscess and have been referred to breast clinic (going to be a painful weekend). Really hope it doesn't mean the end of BF, we'd had such a good start. Also still affected by my broken episiotomy- some healing has occurred and the pain is gone but the main 'wound' remains open. I've managed to get an appointment with a specialist consultant in Nov, with a view to repair surgery. Fingers crossed. Despite feeling like a one-woman episode of 'Embarassing Bodies' I'm staying as upbeat as possible and have been getting out and about daily with the pram. Baby sleeps a lot better at night if he's had a bit of fresh air and activity during the day, and I've joined a few baby groups locally which have been fun so far!

beakerandburette · 12/09/2015 15:14

Don't know if you remember me from the ante-natal threads but just checking in here. Sandy is now 8 weeks old, sitting nicely between 25th and 50th centiles, feeding well (FF after a rocky start with BF), sleeping well (11.30-3.30, 4-8!). I'm feeling blessed and can't believe I'm actually survivng being a single parent of 2 under 2!

Sparrowlegs248 · 13/09/2015 23:04

beaker How jealous i am of your sleep!! What a result esp with another little one! Last night i had wake ups every 50 - 60 minutes until book him into bed at about 2am.

Breakthrough with napping during the day though. Today he managed to fall asleep in the bouncy chair!! This is the first time he's ever fallen asleep without being on me/in sling/car. I had to bounce him the whole time and he only slept for 15 - 20 minutes but still, good progress esp as he hated the bounce chair just a fortnight ago.

I'm thinking of getting something like a poddle pod or sleepyhead - anyone got one? Worried the sleepyhead won't last longbgiven how long DS is.

MuddyWellyNelly · 14/09/2015 12:17

Hi Sparkly. I'm at the tail end of a breast abscess. My advice is: Insist they aspirate with a needle, not an incision. It's. Much less complicated and makes BF easier. I've had mine drained 3 times now, the last time was much more liquidy and I've only got a tiny lump now. They should send the pus off for analysis so you can get the right antibiotics. Also the 3rd time, I asked for local anaesthetic and wish I hadn't. It was the sorest part of all 3 drainings, and now I've got multiple bruises at the injection sites!

Notta, how long did you persevere? Was he crying or just refusing to sleep but otherwise happy? I got a nap this morning by going out for a drive in our noisy land rover (I was going out anyway). But feeding to sleep isn't working in the day any more and very little works. We've bought a pacifier but I want that as a last resort. Luckily our nights are similar to Beakers.

Zampa what a journey so far. I'm glad your little one is home now, I hope progress continues:)

MuddyWellyNelly · 14/09/2015 12:20

Sorry sparkly I meant to add the aspirations weren't that bad and I feel so much better now! Hope yours is fixed soon.

SparklyPenguin · 14/09/2015 12:39

Thanks muddy in fact I have just had the aspiration, it's given me some relief, and am in the hospital waiting to be let home! Sorry you went through the same thing recently, horrendous isn't it? But glad you're feeling better now. I did have a little local anaesthetic which has left me sore, maybe if I need a further aspiration next week at my follow-up appointment I'll ask to have it without.

smallgreenbanana · 14/09/2015 19:41

beaker Nice to hear from you again! Impressed that you are managing 2 under 2!

notta Just bought a sleepyhead - very expensive (a bit shocked when I ordered it!) - will let you know how we get on! Desperate to get DD to sleep on her back during the day at least once so I can get on with doing things.

smallgreenbanana · 16/09/2015 22:22

Having one of those evenings where I think "do I really have to do this all over again tomorrow?" Sigh. Fed up.

HollyC255552 · 17/09/2015 07:03

Is anyone using a Gro Bag with their LO? If so how are they finding it? We've been using a Gro Snug for about 6 weeks which has been great but tried taking her arms out last night (which I want to start to do) & all she did was thrash them around and starting sucking her fists which she has started doing this past week.

Any tips or your thoughts on this? Thanks!

Charliej86 · 17/09/2015 11:45

I'm having a bit of a panic. I'm going out on Sunday, been planned for a while, so OH is in charge of baby boy. He's been off work last 2 days, yesterday he was quite twisty and dad got stressed. He seems to think just shouting 'hey Franky' at him will stop him crying. I'm really looking forward to my dad out but I'm really worrying how he'll cope. I've asked my sil to be on standby but have also suggested his sister & niece pop over.
He does t spend much time with him so doesn't understand his ways. If I try to help him, direct him a little he take offence by it.
He's a good dad, when he is home (he works 8-13hour days) he helps loads.

Sorry just needed a little rant.

smallgreenbanana · 17/09/2015 14:21

Charlie, I think that's normal when dad doesn't spend as much time with LO. My DH has trouble keeping her from crying (mainly because she wants me I think) but has got better with more practice and he doesn't mind so much me making suggestions about what is wrong and what is about to happen based on her behaviour. I would be brave to leave her with him for any length of time - my experience is she screams and he gets upset and if I can hear I get upset too! Can't wait until she's a bit older and understands who he is.

You deserve your time out though. Smile

Charliej86 · 17/09/2015 20:01

He said coz he'd spent all day with him, giving majority of care when he got really twisty at end of the nite he was stressed.
His niece is going to be here (she lives with us) to help but they do clash so he may send her out lol. My dad will be over the road and as I say we have other family on call. If all else fails he'll take him for a walk or drive.
Yesterday was a shock to him, he's never seen him like that, we're out and about on a weekend so keeps him occupied, I'm pleased in a way as OH was starting to forget that babies are full time and that I should have time to do everything. X

MuddyWellyNelly · 17/09/2015 20:15

I hope it goes well Charlie. My DH is generally very good with DS, but like right now when he's overtired and cranky, I get handed him and told "he's hungry". Admittedly he does like to power up before sleeping, but the red eyes and flailing hands are a bit of a giveaway. Grrr.

On that note, has anyone started to introduce "bedtime" yet? Last night we got 10-4 then a feed then another 3.5 hours. Nothing to complain about! He falls asleep at 10 by lying down to feed. He seems to get very tired before then though, but won't stay asleep downstairs after feeding. I don't know how to best approach an earlier bedtime without ruining the later sleep. I'm also not sure I'm ready for bed at 7 or 8pm!

Zampa · 18/09/2015 23:41

Holly My lo is 17 weeks (10 weeks adjusted) and we still have her arms in the Gro Snug. She sleeps without it during the day and her arms are getting less random so hoping to switch to her Gro Bag soon. She loves sucking her fist too and I hate to deny her!

HollyC255552 · 21/09/2015 08:38

Thanks Zampa. I think I may leave it for a while longer then. Its pointless trying to switch too soon if her arms are still thrashing around, she will just wake herself up. I think its rather cute the fist sucking, don't you?!

Charliej86 · 23/09/2015 10:05

OH coped well on Sunday, didn't have to call on any family and didn't have to drive around all day. He has realised how time consuming baby is. I asked him if he could look after baby, cook a meal & tidy round he said no and that he'll never twist at me again lol.

On another note, had little mans 8 week check (at 9weeks) & first injections yesterday. All good at check, weighing in at 14lbs 12ozs. He took his injections well, much better than I did. He's had a slight temperature but nothing major to worry about.

I also had my 6week check (at 9weeks) Dr didn't feel my belly which I think is strange. I asked to be sterilised, I'm 29 with 3 kids, and got a no! Told it wouldn't be considered until I'm 40!!!! I'm not happy.

Zampa · 23/09/2015 19:26

Glad that it went well Charlie.

My lo had her meningitis jab today. Oh, the screaming!

Number3cometome · 24/09/2015 14:26

Hello ladies! Just checking in.

I haven't been on here for a while, it's been a busy 10 weeks!

I am actually back at work now, went back on Monday.
DS is in nursery, he seems to like it.

We get lots of big gummy grins now and he loves tummy time.

First set of injections were pretty naf, temperature etc, but he is fine now.

Hope you and your LO's are all ok!

Sherbet38 · 25/09/2015 23:54

Hi all, just checking in. Baby Sherbert is 9 weeks old today.

Thank you for the advice Raines the feeding seems to have settled down and got easier now the collic has gone. Still BF and much more confident feeding whilst out now.

We had DS first set of vaccinations yesterday, oh his little red face and sobbing was so sad Sad He slept a lot more than normal after and fed less. Generally he's sleeping well, naps in the day . I feed him before bed between 10-11pm and then he tends to wake once about 3am before waking up again at 7am. So i don't think that's to bad Smile

The diets going OK, chipping away at those lbs! I do need to get back to some proper exercise now though, that's the next thing!

Glad to hear everyone is doing well Smile

MuddyWellyNelly · 29/09/2015 09:32

How is everyone doing? Busy I'm guessing!

DS had his first vaccinations yesterday. Oh the wee red face. He's been sleepy and hot but otherwise doing ok so far. I met another lady whilst waiting who's baby was a day older. He was massive, or more accurately my guy is still tiny. People are always surprised he's 2 months already. I'm trying to avoid obsessive weighing as he seems healthy and bright and developing well.

How is everyone else doing?
