Hi all

I couldn't see a July 2015 thread so thought I'd start one. My daughter was born on the 6th and the last two weeks have been fun and tiring - with not much sleep!

Anyone else around?

Oh my gosh, congratulations!!! I cannot imagine being pregnant again do soon, what a shock that must have been! Can I ask a cheeky question? Were you using condoms? Just that we are (hormonal contraception doesn't suit me) and I'm not ready for DS to be a big brother yet so now I'm worried!

Anyway, can people talk to me about sleep training? What is it? Is it controlled crying etc?

Stinkilinky · 23/11/2015 13:52

Thanks Magpie, The shock is slowly being replaced with excitement. We had planned to have DC2 quite close but not this close!

Yes we were only using condoms, I also have endometriosis which effects my fertility so the odds are supposed to be against us!

Here is the link for the sleep training method I tried www.netmums.com/baby/sleep/pick-up-put-down-technique

It did work well but I wasn't being consistent at night times so decided to start again at 6 months and stick to it!!

ewanthedreamsheep · 23/11/2015 17:30

Oh my days stinky congrats. What a surprise! We're only usin condoms right now too - this is making me think twice!

smallgreenbanana · 23/11/2015 18:27

Congrats stinky glad it's a pleasant surprise! :)

Stinkilinky · 23/11/2015 20:21

Thanks everyone. Who would've thought I would make it into the July 15 AND July 16 antenatal clubs Grin

I don't seem to have any symptoms like I did with DS or maybe I am just to preoccupied to notice!?

Charliej86 · 23/11/2015 20:56

Wow congratulations stinki!

I'm having a hard time with little man through the day. He screams when he's tired n I try get him to sleep, have to either stand walk/Rock him or really bounce him in his bouncy chair. He also screams when I try to give him a bottle, it can take anywhere from 30mins to 90mins to get more than 2ozs down him.

Hv came out today to talk about weaning tho we gave baby rice a little try yesterday. He's liking it, not eating a lot but we've only tried twice now. Hv was happy for us to try.
Got him a fisher price sit me up chair at the weekend and he sits lovely in it, just the support he needs. Hv suggested feeding him in there until we get high chair so he gets used to sitting up to eat.

Thankfully he sleeps well on a night, even if I don't.

laura825 · 24/11/2015 19:11

Massive congratulations to you Stinki! What a lovely surprise for you!

Charlie I know what you mean about it taking a while for a feed, could it be teething. My DD is dribbling non stop, really biting fist and has bright red cheeks. Since this has been happening she is just not interested in her milk at all in the day a 5oz can last the 2 hours and she still doesn't finish it. I've been letting her wait a little while longer between feeds to she if she becomes more hungry and will take slightly more at the next feed.

Charliej86 · 24/11/2015 21:37

He's picked up a lot today Laura. He's took 2 of his bottles on arms with no screaming at all. He did well with his rice today too.
It could have to do with teething, he's been very drooly and loves to chomp on his fists or our fingers.

Charliej86 · 30/11/2015 10:00

Are we the only ones weaning? As were ff hv said its fine. I weaned my oldest 2 at 4months so don't see the problem.
He eats the rice fine, opens his mouth for spoon great. He's tried carrot purée too and loved that. He's even had a little chew on a piece of carrot and red pepper.
He'll be 20weeks on Saturday.

broodylicious · 30/11/2015 19:39

I'm not weaning yet. As we are going to be blw, I shan't be starting until at least six months. She's putting good weight on so no need to consider early weaning.

magpie17 · 30/11/2015 20:36

We're not weaning til six months, my DS is nowhere near ready and is still putting on weight with formula so I'm going to wait. Also can't be bothered sterilising plates and spoons etc!

Stinkilinky · 01/12/2015 10:29

We had the HV round yesterday to help me with DS's feeding as he is having 7oz every 2 hours. Finally got a Drs appointment to get gaviscon to help with reflux which means we can add that to hungry baby milk and stop the anti reflux milk.

She also recommended to start weaning him now which I'm going to do once we have started the new milk.

Morning sickness has kicked in, I don't remember it being this bad with DS!

Stinkilinky · 10/12/2015 11:04

Charlie, we are weaning too. DS is 23 weeks. I'm amazed at how well he is doing, he eats anything we give him and tries to put the spoon in his mouth himself too!

We've also changed his milk to deal with the reflux problem, he's now on hungry baby milk with Gaviscon and it seems to have worked wonders I hope I haven't cursed it by saying this! He is sleeping through the night in his own cot (although he has started to put himself on his tummy which freaked me out to begin with but we have a monitor that monitors his breathing so I have relaxed a little) he also seems a lot more settled and happier in general.

How is everyone getting on with daytime naps? DS sleeps on a toddle pod downstairs (we had to stop putting him in his cot as the neighbours are doing a massive renovation of their house so wakes DS during the day as his room joins onto their house) he has 3/4 naps per day at the same times but will only sleep for 30mins at a time. Any idea how I can get him to go longer?

Charliej86 · 10/12/2015 16:14

I put a pause on weaning just for weekend then started again. He took spoon well but wasn't interested in anything we gave him, he was also off bottles. Had weekend off and started again on rice, he's doing loads better with the spoon. Got him some fruity porridge to try and he loves that (can't wait for OH to see him eat that) I've just tried carrots again and he's not that keen tho he liked them first time. I think he's going to prefer finger foods.

Big family milestone this week, took 20+3 weeks but DS1(almost 8) finally gave his little brother a cuddle. Now he can't get enough.

I'm having a hard week myself OH's job keeps him away mom-fri but when he left this Monday we thought it was until 18th, thankfully he's home tomorrow and I'm so pleased. Struggling without him this week. X

wishfulthinking1 · 10/12/2015 21:32

Hi everyone,
I posted briefly on the antenatal group aaaaages ago- but then pregnancy / DS1/birth / hacking got in the way!!!

Can I join back in!!? Will someone send me a link to the fb group?

My DS2, James, is utterly scrummy!

Sherbet38 · 13/12/2015 23:06

Hi everyone, sorry for the break in posting. DS is now 20 weeks. I cannot believe how quickly the time is going. He had this week doubled his birth weight and is 14lb 11oz.

Sleep is going well. Sleeping throb from 8pm most nights, occasionally walking for one night feed. Getting him to sleep can be difficult, he falls asleep no problem, but then can wake and cry for an hour. We resettle, cuddle etc, but it can go on and on. But we are at least past the 4 month sleep regression, that was a testing few weeks!

I stopped EBF at 17 weeks and introduced some formula feeds .I still BF at night and in the morning which is working well. We also started weaning at 17 weeks as he was definitely ready. He's loving the fruit and veg purees and LOVES baby porridge!

Sorry for the long post! Loving reading about how all our July babies are doing Smile

Ooh and congratulations Stinky!

Charliej86 · 15/12/2015 14:00

Had porky weighed this morning, 19lbs 7ozs at 21+3weeks. Wanted to get him weighed before Xmas but didn't want to go next week.
He's also got a little bit of baby eczema on forehead so got some cream.
He's full of cold so I'm not getting much sleep. Propping him up doesn't seem to help.

Am I the only mean mammy that isn't getting baby anything for Xmas? We discussed getting him a walker but haven't actually got it yet and I'm not fussed, I think he'll enjoy the wrapping paper from Dd & ds1 more. He played with the box of chocolates for around 10mins yesterday. He's easy pleased.

smallgreenbanana · 16/12/2015 17:03

We've not got her anything, no. She'll get loads of gifts from family. If she needs anything after that we can at least see what needs to get bought. DD is also easily pleased with crinkly paper/cardboard items!

broodylicious · 17/12/2015 14:48

charliej, have you tried snufflebabe? Calpol plug in? Snufflebabe on soles of feet with socks over? My friend swears by using a humidifier when her kids have colds but I've not yet got round to buying one, might look at the Vicks one after Xmas if it's in a sale. Hope he's better soon.

Our little lady is nearly 21 weeks. Just don't know where the time is going. Sleep is very erratic, a good night then several bad nights, some naps then no naps. With our first, she was constantly awful at sleeping day and night but at least we knew what we were facing every day, it's way more difficult when there's guess work involved ;)

Oh re Xmas gifts - no, we aren't buying much for littlie. She won't remember it and will be more interested in watching her big sister anyway. We have got many many years ahead of us when we will no doubt be spending a fortune on Christmas presents for her so I refuse to buy more than the cost of a teether, pjs, bath toys and a book while she's so young. Defo a "presence not presents" year Smile

smallgreenbanana · 26/12/2015 18:50

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you are all enjoying your special festive time with your little ones. x

Charliej86 · 29/12/2015 11:45

Hope everyone has had a lovely Xmas!! Dc's were all very nicely spoilt. Now we're getting ready for a trip to Scarborough for new year.

Franky has tried loads of new foods over Xmas, probably too many too close as had a bad belly few days ago but well now and learnt a new trick. Loves sticking his tongue out at us

Hi mums! Just wanted to say hi!

My DS was born on 28th July after a somewhat horrible birth experience. He's now a porky 19.6lb at 5.5 months and a big smiling gorgeous funny bundle of cuddles. I'm loving being a mum.

Waving to my one I met on the journey!

MrsFbabyNo1 · 21/01/2016 12:02

Hello all!!!

Long time no see. Where has 6months gone. Loving being mummy and my little man has been pretty plain sailing (so thankful for an easy introduction to parenthood as know it's not always like that). Hoping to ttc again asap as we didn't want big gap. Eeek.

I dropped off app after the hacking thing. But does the app no longer exist? Can't find it to reinstall.

Need to read back and lovely to see names I remember. Plus I've found the love of private Facebook groups (I was always a bit nervous of them and didn't join antenatal one), so would like to join if someone can tell me how!? X

Stinkilinky · 26/01/2016 15:07

Hi everyone, thought I would drop in to catch up with you all and see how you all getting on.

Rudy is 7 months old next week and weighs a whopping 22lbs now, not bad considering we struggled to get him off the 2nd centile! He is eating well, 3 meals a day with a mixture of purées and finger food - he's very independent and does not like us to anything for him if he thinks he can do it himself! I also think he will be crawling within the week, well once he gets over this cold as all he wants is cuddles.

Baby number 2 is due on 22nd July, had our 12 week scan a couple of weeks ago and all was well. Still very daunted by the idea of having a 12 month age gap between children!
