Hi all

I couldn't see a July 2015 thread so thought I'd start one. My daughter was born on the 6th and the last two weeks have been fun and tiring - with not much sleep!

Anyone else around?

Thanks ladies for your messages of support. DH gave me a break this afternoon so I could snooze and he's been doing lots of bottle feeds of expressed milk. My nipples are so sore I can't have anything touch them but they do improve when I express rather than bf. Still going to get the doctor to check for thrush though.

I feel slightly better but dreading being on my own in the week. Also I get upset if she doesn't settle. I struggle to hold her because of the pain in my nipples and c-section scar so I can't comfort her properly. if she doesn't settle quickly after a feed I find it hard to cope with. And I don't really have much energy to talk to her and play with her when she is awake. Visitors are amazing - they play with her like I can't. They have so much energy! I hope I'm not damaging her development with lack of stimulation.

Anyone know when nipples are supposed to stop hurting and toughen up?

Hugs small xxx my nips were agony a few days ago and it still hurts when she first latches but as I said a few posts down, changing my bfing position has really helped me. Worth trying? Are there any lumps or bumps in your boobs? Or heat? Just wondering if it could be anything else, like mastitis? Re not being able to help her settle - I remember this with dd1 so vividly. She was a bugger to settle and it wound me up something chronic. I tried swaying with her, popping her in her basket before she was asleep and then holding her hand or stroking her hair, music in the background, no noise at all...arrrrgh she was a nightmare! The only time she would chill was when I was calm about it and had almost resigned myself to the fact I was going to fail to get her to sleep! Bonkers. Hang in there, it will get easier xxx

Ladies,

A question on wind relief.
Does anyone have any views on Dentonix? Currently using Colief and have been for a week now. Not really thinking its working & secondly such a faff to use, was hoping to try Dentonix next if thats any good.

Thanks!

charlieis30 · 09/08/2015 20:06

Chilling with my 2 day old bubs but wanted to say hi to all! Finally made it!

HollyC255552 · 09/08/2015 21:04

Congrats Charlieis30. Enjoy your time with your LO.

Clstow · 09/08/2015 21:23

Just checking in to mark my place and say hi. DS finally arrived Friday morning - 13 days late but worth every moment of the wait. It means he's actually an August babba but there's no way I'm leaving you guys Smile

broodylicious · 09/08/2015 22:33

holly, I used dentinox with dd1 and found it really helpful. We also tried Infacol which wasn't bad but just not as effective for us as dentinox. They're both cheaper than colief anyway so worth a punt Wink

Naturegirl82 · 09/08/2015 22:42

holly we are using dentinox. Finding it works really well. I'm only giving about 2 doses a day now and it's still really effective. It's less than £3 a bottle so not much wasted if you try it. Colief is more to relieve lactose intolerance symptoms I think so if it's just a wind issue you may find the dentinox more effective.

small definitely worth getting checked for thrush. Both of us have it and it does make my nipples hurt. It can take a while to clear even with medication though but better to know if that is what is causing your pain.

HollyC255552 · 10/08/2015 09:05

Thanks broody & Nature. I'm going to go & buy some today & give it a whirl. Didnt find infacol much help so hoping Dentonix is the one. I presume its fairly easy to use?!

Naturegirl82 · 10/08/2015 09:45

Holly very easy to use. can give them a syringe before or after feeds up to 6 times a day.

Littlelady33 · 10/08/2015 11:58

Marking my place and saying hi! First week with DH back at work was strange but settling into a bit of a rhythm now. Slowly. LO does seem to have some reflux and wind issues after feeds and it's keeping him awake. We were thinking of trying Infacol- do I need to run this by a gp or health visitor?

smallgreenbanana · 10/08/2015 12:11

We do indeed have thrush! Must be all those antibiotics I was on. The doctor faffed around a bit - hope he's given me the right sort of treatment - but I've now got hope again that things might get better! Do I have to throw away all the expressed milk now, does anyone know?

Charliej86 · 10/08/2015 12:25

Eeek I'm leaving Franky boy for an hour or 2. My dd has a hospital appointment so my mam is going to watch him while I take her. He's in a lovely mood so sure they will be fine. He's 23days. X

Sherbet38 · 10/08/2015 12:45

Congratulations charlieis30 and clstow

Small that's good they've diagnosed the issue, hopefully you'll start to feel better soon.

My DH has gone back to work today, so it's DS and my first day in our own. We're going to have a very lazy day after 2 busy weeks of visitors.

My c section scar still isn't healing properly. Saw the midwife yesterday and she wanted me to be referred to the community nurses, so visited the GP this morning. They're testing for infection and i have new dressings. Fingers crossed this sorts it out.

DS is doing well. Sleeping between 1 and 4 hours between feeds. One bottle of expressed milk a night gives me one decent 4 hour sleep! He still prefers to feed on one side, but I'm persisting with the other side a couple of times a day otherwise I leak all over the place! Blush Hmm

MissTwister · 10/08/2015 13:28

Small - I don't think Thrush affects milk?

Hi Fab Ladies,

Wow! This is it.... I am still in awe that we made it through 10 months, now the real work begins. Smile

Baby Dara and I are fine, still breast feeding, he has sort of developed a routine for himself, wakes up twice to feed at night from putting him down from about 11.

Rash still there HV advised we stop using Johnsons and use oilatum instead, hopefully that will help.

Now that I have the push chair, been taking him out, which is nice, gives me some mummy time with him sometimes without Grandma and dad.

Hope everyone is doing great and trying to get lots of rest.
Here is a picture of baby Dara and I having coffee Grin xxx

broodylicious · 10/08/2015 20:49

Definitely something to be proud of joy, hooray for us! Eek, we've all made it through labour and birth and have our gorgeous littlies with us now. Seemed like it'd never happen for a long time back there! I second ditching the Johnson's btw, bar the top to toe wash, it's full of nasties. We just use plain water here then will be moving on to something that's entirely natural and organic in a few months - dd1 has got v sensitive skin so we've always had to be careful what we've put on her and we are that type of people anyway so would've gone organic regardless.

JoY007 · 10/08/2015 21:57

Hi Broody Lord knows I was always going to go organic even before he was born. However to avoid an argument with OH I succumbed to his "I grew up on johnsons so it's good enough for my son"Hmm.

The oilatum is to treat the rash, once it's all gone I am getting an organic brand that I have researched.

Meanwhile I know we all love lasinoh, however I much prefer the angelmama nipple butter, amazing product, worth a try, it glides on so easily.

I have now lost count of the frequency my baby feeds, as I feed him on demand and sometimes feels like every 1.5-2 hours. Not sure if he is taking on more or I am producing less but finding it a struggle to express enough for the night feeds. My mum now has to wake me up for the 6am/7am feed as I am only able to express 120-150ml which covers 2 feeds. Not complaining, as I am in the process of weaning myself of my mum's help, she leaves end of month and I am not looking forward to it.Sad.

BTW Baby D is 32 days old. Smile

LaLaLaaaa · 11/08/2015 16:20

Hi all

We are back from hospital after a horrible 3 nights in a hot room trying to keep my baby's temperature down. Hit 39 degrees at one point it was terrifying. He had tests and lumbar puncture. Elevated levels showed infection but nothing specific. The antibiotics gave him very painful stomach which has been very difficult to watch him go through

But we are home and he seems fine now. Struggling with routine after hospital. He feeds on demand and it was every 3 hours but now seems to be every hour and he doesn't want to sleep. I'm hoping he'll settle again

Clstow · 11/08/2015 18:22

So pleased you are home and everything is ok La - must have been such a horrible time for you. Hope LO settles back in to being at home asap.

With the bathing, I'm planning on just using water but as DS was born with some dry skin wasn't planning on bathing him straight away but also don't want to leave it too long... He's now 4 days old. How long did everyone leave it before bathing their babies?

broodylicious · 11/08/2015 18:54

clstow, dd also has dry skin due to being overdue. We've not bathed her yet (17days), just been top and tailing with plain water and cotton wool. We are probably going to give her a bath in the next few days though xx

Gosh la, sounds like you've really been through it. Hope your lo gets better soon and settles now at home xx

SparklyPenguin · 11/08/2015 20:03

Clstow we gave DS his first bath, in plain water, at 6 days old (the day we came out of hospital) and have done so every 2 days since. Now he's a month old we're going to try out some gentle products but not sure what yet. He also had dry skin on hands/legs/tummy but it seemed to clear up on its own- hv and mw both recommended olive oil (!) no idea if that's good advice or not as we didn't try it...

smallgreenbanana · 12/08/2015 12:15

Silly doctor didn't give any treatment for baby. After speaking to health visitor turns out it's essential so had to faff around again yesterday getting second prescription. Also do have to throw milk away Sad Trying to get her to open her mouth - hilarious! Going to health visitor clinic tomorrow to get weighed and speak in person about all issues.

Luckystar82 · 12/08/2015 14:33

Sorry you are experiencing nipple pain smallbanana I sympathise, what worked for me I'm sure you've tried: lansinoh, savoy (British) cabbage leaves, salt baths, good latching (detach a bad latch and start again). Hang in there, it should get better. I couldn't get on with nipple shields, but they are a life saver for some. Sorry if you've already tried these obvious things and they haven't worked.

My little girl is still only pooping once every 8 days :) and suffers really badly from wind. Her little face when she cries makes my heart ache as she is clearly in so much pain! When she isn't suffering she is a lovely little baby and really easy/ happy.

Infacoil has not worked for our little one's wind...also read it makes constipation worse, so we stopped using it. We have since switched to Dentonix and it is very effective. She is bringing up big burps and is now easier to settle. We give about 2-3 doses a day.

I was recommended Colief, but is more for lacto-intolerance issues and a faff to administer (plus it is expensive) so didn't bother trying it, I purchased the Detinox instead.

Luckystar82 · 12/08/2015 14:37

Sorry to hear you have thrush smallbanana that explains nipple issues then....I often get thrush too after antibiotics. Hope it clears up soon :)
