Oh no bigfam
Your poor dd
Ouch!
Wishing her a speedy recovery and hope it heels well.

September60b · 25/06/2015 10:40

That's rubbish bigfam, your poor dd Sad. Hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Pesto-the ikea highchair doesn't fold away unfortunately. When it's pushed right up to the table I wouldn't say it takes up much more room than a dining chair.

Dec1314mummy · 25/06/2015 21:22

Oh no bigfam that's terrible. What did the school say today?
I have a wooden highchair. I started with a plastic one and hated it, so when I saw this one in the kiddicare closing down sale I snapped it up!

Sorry I've been totally AWOL for ages!
I hope you're DD's foot feels better soon, bigfam!
We were bought a wooden high chair from John Lewis as a gift, and so far it's great. I use an insert (bought from Amazon for not very much) as although she can sit pretty steadily, she's still so little that she would slip through the straps otherwise. It has a separate 'chair' part which can be lifted off the base so I can feed her in the living room sitting on the couch, and the base turns into a toddler table for when she's older. We've just started properly weaning this week and so far she loves it. I've decided to start off with a mix of baby-led and purée, so she's munched slices of banana and cucumber, and absolutely demolished puréed apple, pear and carrot. I'm really hoping it improves sleep as she's been up upwards of three times a night for a couple of weeks now.

Pesto11 · 26/06/2015 03:09

Ooh weaning sounds like it's going well chiruri
I think I'm erring towards trying both purées and baby led (too scared to just do baby led but really want to give it a go!)
Going to sleep has been a nightmare here.
Took 2 hours of on off crying
Think it's a combination of over tired teething and really hot

Her first tooth is coming through now- so exciting! Babies are growing up fast!

chiruri · 26/06/2015 05:04

If you're wanting to try a bit of baby-led then cucumber slices are apparently great for sore gums. Plus they can't really tear off proper chunks so it's not to scary. DD loved gumming down on the flesh, and she did manage to scrape off a little bit of the soft seedy bit.
I've been told melon is good for teething, too, but we haven't tried it yet.

Dec1314mummy · 27/06/2015 05:29

Morning all. I'm in a state of utter shock! Dd woke up at 4.40, she went to bed at 7. She has never slept for more than 5 hours straight before and that was a good night! I'm not expecting it to be a regular thing but Shock. Nice to know she is capable of it! Problem is she won't go back to sleep now, think I may be up for the day Sad she's normally up by 6 at the latest and that's bad enough! Such a morning girl, she hates the evenings though, if we do her bath any later than 6.30 she screams the house down and will not settle at all. Sometimes it's as early as 5.45! She'll be 6 months on Monday. I can not believe where the time has gone.
Talking about solids, dd has had puréed food for the last 2 weeks. We were advised, due to reflux, to start at 4 months, but she just wasn't ready. She has so far had; pear, plum, sweet potato, apple, banana, parsnip, and carrot. We try to introduce things slowly though because of all the allergies Ds has. With him we could only introduce something every 3 days at the earliest. I am still so scared to try new things with him but touch wood so far dd has been fine, although we haven't yet tried anything he's allergic to yet! She has had a few finger foods so we are mixing a little. We did this with Ds and despite him having such horrible reactions, he is an amazing eater and not at all fussy. Hopefully the same will work for dd, but I know every baby is so different so don't expect it.
Is anyone's dc on the move yet? Dd is so desperate to but she has no chance. Her technique of sticking her bum in the air is getting her nowhere fast! Ds doesn't cope when she does something new anyway! When she started sitting he would push her back down and when she started rolling would roll her back over! So funny Grin poor child! They do love each other though!

Looks like I'll be buy a baby carrier again, the only way dd1 can go anywhere is in a stroller, it's really hard for her to use the crutches for extended periods, does anyone know which carriers are suitable for babies 5 months +?
I'm too scared to try bl feeding, I always worry about choking, so everything is pureed to within an inch of its life, I might be brave and give it a go in a few week though, I'm sure she'd love it. Her gums are swollen at the bottom, and the amount she dribbles is unreal.

Elizadoesdolittle · 27/06/2015 09:31

bigfam connectas are ace. They are so comfy and you can back carry them too. And they come in such pretty patterns.

I'll be doing blw. Did it with DD1 and worked great. DD2 had to have everything pureed for months. I hated it. Am so over doing purees. DS won't be having anything pureed by me. (unless he doesn't get on with blw of course but there's no reason he shouldn't). I'm waiting till 6 months to start so in a couple of weeks. Just in time for the builders to knock our kitchen out. Great timing on my part!

PP world was fab. Sooo much better than when I went in school hols. I did miss my little man though. He however didn't seem to notice my absence Grin

chiruri · 27/06/2015 09:41

Dec DD is DESPERATE to get on the move. I think she'll probably bum shuffle, as she has managed to move a couple of centimetres already just by wriggling her legs and thrusting her hips (she's sitting independently now). She's so annoyed when she can't reach toys, now, but I don't want to pander to her by handing her everything. It's hard, though, cos I don't like to see her upset.
I was naughty and gave her a baby rice cake yesterday. She rather enjoyed it!
bigfam I love our Ergo carrier. We have the original, but I've heard the 360 is also really good. A couple of my friends have Tulas and absolutely swear by them. They are so pretty, too.

bigfam · 27/06/2015 19:41

Dd1 is back off to hospital tomorrow, her cast is completely useless, she can move her foot as if there's nothing there. It was swollen when it was first applied, and I'd expect a little bit of movement but not like that. So annoying. And I've got to take the baby along as she won't stay with anyone else

Alyx80 · 27/06/2015 21:08

What a nightmare bigfam! Hope she's not in too much pain with it. I have a Connecta carrier which is nice and comfy and easy to use.

How are your babies getting on with the heat? Q doesn't seem bothered but I never know what to dress him in at night! Tonight he's in shortie PJs and a 1 tog grobag. He's woke in the night the last two nights, I was hoping he wouldn't regress with his sleep but it looks like he's going to lol.

I've started putting him upstairs for his first nap of the day as R keeps waking him and then he's really grumpy if he's not slept well. He's still not having the 3 hours like he was but an hour is better than nothing!

Don't know if I've shared this already but here's Q trying out his high chair, he doesn't need the insert as he's quite snug in it.

Jan 2015- what will they be doing next? Sitting, eating, crawling....
September60b · 28/06/2015 05:12

Hi all. We start weaning next week and I plan to do a mixture of purées and finger food. I love the idea of BLW too but a bit scared by it! I'm getting myself prepared for the mess. She loves dropping her toys on the floor when she's in her highchair. She drops them and then peers over the edge, it's really funny!

I never know how to dress dd at the moment Alyx! At night I usually put her in a long sleeved vest or just a sleepsuit and a 1 tog sleeping bag. Our room is around 21 degrees in this weather even though we try and ventilate it.

Glad you're getting some more sleep dec that's amazing! Dd is doing slightly longer stretches at night now so I feel ever so slightly less like a zombie. She's desperate to crawl too and does the bum shuffle. I'm quite impressed by how far she gets!!

Pesto11 · 28/06/2015 13:42

dec good news on the sleep Smile
alyx your boys are just gorgeous!!!

Dd is such a sweatypants and now sleeps in a sleep suit with her legs out and no gro bag
I try to cover her but she madly kicks everything!

Dd is still not sitting unaided and is stationary when on her tummy - not going anywhere except thrashing her arms and legs!
When on her back she will wriggle all the way up the cot/bed/floor!

bigfam · 28/06/2015 17:03

Dd3 is officially 5 months today, but for some reason when asked I always refer to her age in weeks.

Dd1's cast is fine they said and there's a ( small) chance it could come off on the 8th when we go back, if not will be covered with the colored cast for another 3 weeks.

chiruri · 28/06/2015 17:43

Our room is so hot at night - we're talking 23 degrees - so even though DD likes to be cosy at night she's currently sleeping in a long sleeved vest and 1tog grobag. Any warmer than 23 and it's a short sleeved vest and grobag. Her bedroom seems to be slightly cooler than ours, so tempted to move her into her own bed. Finally finished decorating the walls and putting away all her clothes today!

bigfam · 28/06/2015 17:56

My rooms always hotter too, thanks to the boiler being in there. I hate sleeping without a duvet or cover in general but it's impossible in there. Baby has spent a couple of nights in nothing but a nappy and if the weather's heading the way it says it's going to, I need a fan!!

jobrum · 28/06/2015 23:20

I've just orderd a 1 tog grobag. Dds rrom is small, gets all the afternoon and evening sun and the airing cupboard is in her room and its also over the boiler. Tonight she's still awake. She's really reduced the number of feeds she's having recently and two teeth are nearly through and causing her no end of discomfort. But tonight she just wont sleep...

Pesto11 · 28/06/2015 23:58

Poor you and your lo jo
We are having teething troubles tonight and had on off wailing since 5pm! She won't munch on teethers; only her fists and my clothes will do!

I haven't seen any 1tog gro bags in the shops that's why she's in a vest and sleep suit ... Might have to order one.
Out bedroom overlooks a noisy road so I can't open the windows really cz of traffic noise!
Feel for you guys out there with boilers and heating systems in your rooms - nice and toastie in the winter but a nightmare in the summer I bet.
Hope you get some sleep soon jobrum
I need to buy some baby bonjela tomorrow I think.

jobrum · 29/06/2015 01:42

Pesto, a Slumbersack (I think) is turning up from Amazon but ai know grobag do them and I saw a couple on morhercare. Not being able to open windows is pants, we're just off a very large main road but our room at the back is spookily silent and now we've moved dd into her cot, although her room is still very quite consideing where it is, she still notices sirens and horns. She fell asleep about midnight!

Dd loves vhewing on dresses and this floppy cloth crocodile toy she has, teething rings hold no interest for her either. We use teething gel and Nelsons granuals. Homeopathic nonsense but they seem to provide a few minutes of distraction.

Bigfam, has your dd at least been able to enjoy getting all her friends to sign her cast? It must be so awkward for you.

bigfam · 29/06/2015 03:22

She hasn't been back to school yet, they advised us to give her a few days practice with the crutches, but is going in Monday (today) she's still got one of the white casts at the moment, they'll add the coloured cast on the 8th at her next appointment at the fracture clinic after another xray.

My others were all sleeping through the night at this point, oh well!
Hope you and the lo manage to get some sleep job.

Dec1314mummy · 29/06/2015 08:22

Just reading through quickly and for those that haven't heard of it I find ambesol the best gel by far.
Dd didn't go to sleep for ages last night either. She then rolled in her sleep for the first time. It's common for me to find her completely facing the other way of horizontal across the bed but not rolled over. Problem is we were tucking her arms in to her sleeping bag as she just fights with them, but we can't do that if she's going to roll! First nap with arms out now and I have had to rock her a lot to get her to sleep and haven't attempted to put her down yet!

MomentOfWonder · 29/06/2015 08:53

There was a heatwave when DC1 was about 6 months old and some nights we couldn't get his room below 29 degrees (allegedly, I always thought the monitor's thermometer was a bit ambitious!) We're also by a noisy main road so 0.5 tog sleeping bags and a fan were our friends - although by the time the next Summer came round he wouldn't put up with the fan any more. Hope things get easier soon bigfam.

September60b · 29/06/2015 10:52

I second anbesol too for teething. We use the liquid as I find the gel sometimes slides off dd's gums as she's so dribbly!

Grobags do a 1 tog, and you can also pick them up in Matalan for £10 (so I found out when we had forked out £25 in baby's r us!).

Dec the rolling over in the sleep is a problem for us too! I say problem, but I guess it's only natural and it's not exactly going to go away. Last night I had to get up 6 times because dd had rolled onto her front and started wailing because she couldn't roll back or get her left arm out from underneath her! Her new favourite thing is to roll over onto her side and stick her legs and arms through the bars. She loves to bang on the bars especially at 3am.

Is anyone else finding that their dc's are needing less sleep in the daytime? Dd seems to be dropping sleep in the morning and having a longer nap in the afternoon now.

chiruri · 29/06/2015 11:06

I suppose it's a tiny blessing that as DD hasn't got the hang of rolling, at least she doesn't roll in her sleep! She's still in her bedside crib but I think we'll be moving into her own room soon as she's getting a little big for it.
Sep, DD is sleeping very little during the day just now. Three or four 20-30 minute naps per day is average. She also doesn't go to bed until 10pm, although she's getting a little grumpy in the evenings so going to bring her bath time forward an hour tonight to see if that helps. She woke up at 3am and wouldn't really settle for a proper sleep again. I think our problem was that it cooled significantly overnight so she was well underdressed and cold!
Has anyone who has started weaning had any problems with increased wind or tummy pains? DD gets very wriggly and upset at about 4am every morning, and only settles after managing to pass wind/fill her nappy. I'm hoping it settles as time goes on! She's drinking plenty of water when having solid food, and everything has been fruit or veg so far.
