Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello to all the new people
Not been feeling very well thois week so haven't posted as much. Anyone had a bad cough and gone hot and cold all the time? It's very wierd as I don't have a full blown cold with it but the hot flushes are horrid! And my period started this morning (which is good news after our method of contraception earlier this month ) but a bit wierd as I only had one 26 days ago... eek!
Dd is at last sleeping through. She's 11 weeks today. She has a bottle at bedtime, usually cries for more milk so has a few more ounces about half an hour later and then is out til about 6am
Daytime naps only really happen in the pushchair, my arms or the car which probably explains why at about 5.30pm she is very cry-ey and definitely ready for bed by 6pm.

cruisemum1 · 30/11/2006 09:36

pistachio - those early rising mornings are HARD! Let's hope it was a one off. Don't knock the dark winter evenings and morning though. Once summer arrives these lo's see the daylight and think it's time to be awake whether it is 9pm at night or 4am in the morning! You will long for winter dark again!

cruisemum1 · 30/11/2006 09:42

Feel elated today as I have put ds down for his morning nap in his cot and he hasn't stirred! . AND he is still sleeping from around 9pm to 7am uninterrupted!!!! . I had to wake him at 7:20am this morning. Only trouble is that he will not give in and go in his cot until he has had a major boob suck and fallen completely asleep in my arms. This is only a problem because dd needs me then and I am torn . Have tried to let him cry and re-settle but no-can-do and all he wants is a boob. As I give him his last feed in his room it means I am not attendig to dd and her needs. Nothing else, and I mean nothing else, will settle him but a boob. Any solutions????????????

clairemow · 30/11/2006 09:47

cruise, could you feed DS with DD there, perhaps with a calm video on v. quietly, so that she isn't left out, and still with only dim lighting. Mind you, that would only work for a short amount of time, and I'm not sure how long it takes to settle DS?

cruisemum1 · 30/11/2006 10:39

clairmow - thanx for input. I do the quiet tv thing every night but still feel it is unfair on dd as she is 8 and gets fed up with padding around quietly night after night The major feed/suck begins around 7pm and ends around 9.15pm! I have to put dd to bed, get her drink etc with ds still attached - very difficult the heavier he gets. Have tried doing bedtime feed in bedroom but that way dd gets really left out

Coriander73 · 30/11/2006 17:29

Myrtle, echo what Clairemow says re seatbelts...you wont have a problem

kseaj · 30/11/2006 17:48

Hi ladies, thanks for your welcomes.
Having a problem with ds nappy every time he fills it goes all up his back, clothes and every were else, have to keep bathing him. Thought that they might be to big/small but they fit perfect round his waist. Any ideas

clairemow · 30/11/2006 19:08

kseaj, this is a common problem!!! I often have to bath DS2 too... try different types of nappy out to see which fit best is the only advice I can think of! When your LO is weaned, you'll long for these poos back again...!!!

compo · 01/12/2006 09:52

thanks guys, I'm feeling a bit better today [wink

Can't believe it's December already. So glad we decided on staying at home this year so we don't have to madly dash around the country like we usually do!!

Myrtle1 · 01/12/2006 12:18

Compo, we're doing the mad dash again this year to see all our relatives. Starts next week with trip to Germany to see DH parents then the week before christmas, we're off to Birmingham to see my aunty then bristol to see DH's sister then Hanpshire to see my parents then Bognor to see DH's grandparents then all the way back up to Yorkshire! We're going to get the xmas tree this weekend otherwise we won't have a chance to enjoy it!
Re periods, I've not had one yet. Is that normal? I had DS 10 weeks ago! Does bf make a difference?

mabel1973 · 01/12/2006 14:08

well its ds1"s birthday today and instead of spending the day at a soft play centre as planned, he is on the sofa under the poorly blanket after being sick twice this morning. i was up most of the night with shivers and a headache so something is not right. fortunatel ds2 seems ok. so no tractor cake for us - it is quite impressive though even if i do say so myself...!

clairemow · 01/12/2006 14:59

Oh no Mabel! i hope you don't have anything too awful..

Myrtle, that sounds like a really mad dash!! Where in Bristol does your SIL livee? That's where we are - wouldn't it be weird if I knew her?!! Very very unlikely though!!!!

Just made a trip to the park last 2 1/2 hours - is that a record? F went to sleep in the buggy around 12, DS1 and I took sandwiches and ate them on a bench on the way in the cemetery (?!), then went to the park and DS1 had a great time for an hour. F still didn't stir. We walked home, via the bakery for a gingerbread man, got home for F to wake up, just in time for feed!! Off out again now.... Lots of fresh air, made me feel much better, as this morning, I was in a bit of a bad mood! Not any more. Phew.

Marls001 · 01/12/2006 15:27

Mabel - so sorry. Super-hard to be sick with a young baby in the house ...

Myrtle - Wow! We're staying home this year, for the first time in our married lives.

Will be off for a while. Will say a very happy goodbye to this Mac, which has just sold on eBay. Need to get myself up on new PC before back online again. It was like this: Though this Porsche looks great and has terrific handling, the seats are uncomfortable, so it's not fun to drive. Talk with everyone again when I'm happily back.

bristols · 01/12/2006 17:29

Myrtle - I haven't had a period yet either. DS is 13 weeks old on Sunday. I think BF does make a difference. To be honest, I'm really glad as its hard enough looking after him without period pains and PMT!

Am feeling really rough. Have a raging temperature and feel generally lousy. Still plodding on though. When I think of the 'good old days' when I whould have taken to my bed for a few days...

Sounds as though there's a bit of a bug going around.

Thankfully, my parents and sister and partner are coming to us for christmas. We're off to Gloucester (from Essex) for the weekend before christmas to see some friends and family. We're staying in the hotel we got married in in Cheltenham so really looking forward to it. Never know DH might get lucky if the romance overwhelms me!!

clairemow · 01/12/2006 17:33

Myrtle, when I had DS1 I didn't have a period the entire time I bf, and for a good few months afterwards too. Brilliant side effect! I presume this is why bf works as a contraceptive (sometimes!!).

redz · 01/12/2006 17:34

Hi all,

Mabel hope you feel better soon, there is a flu type bug going around. I would say take it easy but I know thats not really possible with lo.

Kseaj, I used to have that poo up the back prob aswell but ive been using pampers new baby and must admit their really good and it hasnt happened since However will have to change them soon because they go up to 15lb and dd is now a weighty 13lb 10oz and she's only 10weeks on sunday!! Also im quite lucky dd cries as soon as she has finished doing a poo so I change her straight away even if she was asleep she'll wake up and cry.

Hope your feeling better Compo

cruisemum1 · 01/12/2006 19:11

This is totally unrelated to anything to do with babies but I just wanted to know.... . If you have a dishwasher which has run out of salt and rinse aid but you use 5-in-1 dishwasher tablets, do you need to replace the salt and rinse aid? If so, what the heck is in the five in ones?!

clairemow · 01/12/2006 19:16

cruise, I've always (maybe not always) wanted to know that too... Haven't dared not add them - esp the salt as we have v hard water here.

Myrtle1 · 01/12/2006 19:39

Clairemow, my SIL lives in Nailsea. Not exactly Bristol but fairly close. Is that near you? It would funny if you knew each other.

clairemow · 01/12/2006 19:41

hi Myrtle, we live closer in, although Nailsea is about a 10-15 min drive I guess. We're in Stoke Bishop, near the Downs. I don't think I know anyone who lives in Nailsea, so no weird knowing MNetters' relatives going on!!

cruisemum1 · 01/12/2006 19:58

redz, that is afantastic weight gain! She must be a beautiful cherubic little bundle!

bristols · 01/12/2006 22:01

Cruisemum and clairemow - I use the 5 in 1 tablets and I don't add anything else. All the lights on the dishwasher flash to say the salt and rinse aid are empty but I just ignore them. HTH

cruisemum1 · 02/12/2006 09:07

bristols - thanks! I know it is nothing to do with babies but I knew someone on here would know! Also, it proves that I can think of something else other than babies [smile, even if it is only dishwasher tablets!

bristols · 02/12/2006 15:53

I just thought I'd share my 'proof I'm losing the plot' of the day. I just tumble dried a load of washing without having washed it.

Sleep deprivation, eh?

Its v quiet on here today. Hopefully everyone's too busy having a lovely weekend to post.

cruisemum1 · 02/12/2006 16:32

bristols - that is so funny - you take the crown today!
anyone got any good tips for daytime naps for 12 week old? ds finds it hard to stay asleep, wherever we are, for more than 30 mins and then i end up with a sad, tired boy .
