Simone cave is the author but if you type potty training girls into amazon it's the first hit.

cuphat · 22/07/2015 22:36

Thanks. Got it. Thought it might be that one but the 'for' threw me.

HungryHorace · 23/07/2015 07:04

Me too, Cup, but I punted on that one too and ordered it. An hour at a time sounds far more feasible with two of them to deal with than a full time affair!

I'm not sure DD is as advanced at talking as some of her peers. She does do short sentences some of the time, but there's also loads of 1-2 word exchanges. She has loads of words though and her comprehension is great. Plus she can count, knows the alphabet, read a bit and recognise numbers. So she's ahead with some of those. It'll all even out at some point in the next few years. I'm certainly not worried!

We've never called animals by their sounds, only their names, followed by asking her what noise they make, so at least that's not a tick in the naughty mummy box!!

Another successful single bed night last time. Time to remove the cot bed soon. Her room will look enormous!

DS is 1 tomorrow, so that's taking up our energies at the moment. Can't believe it's a year already!

DD can do the same as your DD, hungry. Though when saying the alphabet she always says the 'and' between y and z, thanks to the song!

She does speak in sentences now. She's picking more up every day. She just said "I'm here, playing with the stacker". I asked her a question in a shop the other day and she answered "I'm not sure", which surprised me as we haven't taught her that intentionally. And this morning it was "I'm not really sure". She does normally answer yes or no though!

She can also recite quite a few books as well as recognising some words and letters.

A fantastic memory definitely helps with all of this. I heard a tune that one of her toys plays the other day and couldn't for the life of me remember which toy played it. I asked DD and straight away she answered "it's the red bus". And she has a lot of toys!

We've always done the same with animals too - asking what they are and then what sound they make. That's exactly what they asked her at her 18 month check too, when showing her pictures.

Glad the move to the big bed is going well, hungry.

Wow, I can't believe your DS is 1! Happy birthday to him for tomorrow (in case I'm not on here)!

Want the solution to world peace? Surprisingly it comes from Matalan in the shape of socks with sheep faces on the toes.

Small girl is wandering around in her pants and socks shouting baa at every step Grin

HungryHorace · 23/07/2015 09:03

DD comes out with stuff like that too. It's always unexpected and so funny where they pick stuff up from.

That's why I'm not worried. I think with her that she won't say something until she's sure she's right, which is a trait she's somehow got from me!

Ha! World peace also comes in the form of new wellies. So much glee that they went on straight over his sleepsuit Grin

SunnyL · 23/07/2015 10:01

Actually yes you're right - wellies trump new socks.

Heavens only knows why the UN hasn't discovered this yet.

Mrs81 · 23/07/2015 10:24

Dunno. Possibly because adult wellies aren't as much fun.

DS's have pull-on handles and have glow-in-the-dark tuquoise stars on them. How could anyone strop whilst wearing/carrying those?

Sunbeam18 · 23/07/2015 10:31

I do wish grown- up outfits were as easy to put together as toddler ones - everything goes well together even if they clash and wellies work with everything!

cuphat · 23/07/2015 10:47

Oh yes, I'm like that too! Although I was never confident enough to speak out at school unless forced to. I'm still like that now; I struggle to speak out in groups and I can't play Trivial Pursuit as even if I know the answers I still doubt myself. Fear of looking stupid. I wonder if that's why DD never babbled!

Wellies also go down well here. DD puts hers on and walks around in them all day, given the chance. I bought her some 'wellie-shoes' (her word for them) the other day as a compromise. So she is currently walking around in those which is preferable!

cuphat · 23/07/2015 10:53

And 'wellie-shoes' come in a size '6-7' which solves the feet size issue. They are very generous in size and perfect for DD's problem feet!

BeanCalledPickle · 23/07/2015 11:45

Wellie shoe is brilliant. Much better than jelly shoe!

cuphat · 23/07/2015 11:58

I fear they're more croc than jelly shoe, though they are glittery. DD chose them. Much prefers them to her sandals!

June 2013: Here come the terrible twos!
BeanCalledPickle · 23/07/2015 13:48

I'd say they are crocs. We got some handed down. I'm really glad we did as they are bloody wonderful!

Mrs81 · 23/07/2015 18:19

Grrr. The new wellies are too big and fall off outside Sad Off to find the holy grail...aka size 4 wellies that are in store this evening (he NEEDS wellies this weekend for a visit up north that we're doing)

HungryHorace · 23/07/2015 19:36

I've got some size 4 wellies in DS' wardrobe. #helpful

DD also adores her wellies. She has penguin ones and they're ace. :-)

Mrs81 · 23/07/2015 19:42

Mothercare came up trumps for once! Good job...or I'd have been a bit stuck. We've been squeezing him into size 3 for a while...but he REALLY has grown out of them. They're very dinky and cute though Smile
DS is going to start to associate each morning with a new pair of wellies at this rate!

HungryHorace · 23/07/2015 19:49

Now that IS making a rod for your back!

OP posts:
BeanCalledPickle · 23/07/2015 19:50

Bought one of those seats and ladders for the loo. She takes her nappy off climbs up and does a wee. Wtf? This is entirely random yes?! Will never happen again?

AlohaMama · 23/07/2015 20:10

That's better progress than I'm making bean. DD does poo in nappy, takes off nappy, brings nappy to me, "nappy poop". Yes thanks love, I can see that, just as I can see it hanging off your butt and half way up your back. Cue rapid trip to shower.

HungryHorace · 23/07/2015 20:16

DD wears pull ups which aren't as easy to get off. But she detests that bloody seat now!

Once that book comes maybe we will have more luck. Maybe.

OP posts:
Sunbeam18 · 23/07/2015 22:16

We too have one of those seats with a ladder. Sadly DS only uses it to climb up to reach the sink and turns the taps on and splashes water all over the room. Sigh.

cuphat · 24/07/2015 07:49

We just have a seat that DD puts on, then we have a step that she uses for the toilet and sink. That's where we're going wrong Grin DD sits on the toilet for ages, asking if we can tell everyone if she does a wee, then listing every family member (extended too) that she can think of! But she still doesn't do one!

Remember I mentioned friends who had trained theirs before two/ as they turned two? Well I've already been asked if DD has been trained yet (a month or so ago). The pressure!

I must stop using 'DD' as I'm worried I'm using it automatically irl without thinking!

PeekABooPinky101 · 24/07/2015 09:45

Aloha Grinlove that.

Dd yesterday 'mummy muuuuuuummmmmmyyyyy poo' she had indeed dome a poo, this was confirmed a) by the smell and b) clearly she had wanted to check and stuck her hand in her nappy..... Blush
She can also now say stinky, which she will happily say to anyone that may happen to say they are going to the toilet....

Happy birthday to ds hungry - hope you all have a lovely day celebrating.

Today is haircut day, dd needs her fringe doing, but the defiant mood she is in I am wondering if I even ask for hers to be tackled, I fear it will either end up extremely wonky or the hairdresser refusing to ever see us again because of the tantrum that may be thrown. We shall see....
