Our babies are rocking and rolling, crawling and climbing into the second half of their first year.

Let the fun continue...

Ah FATE if only it was as easy as not adding salt...!Grin DH is a hardcore foodie and can't make a meal without at least trying for restaurant quality. I think it's the main reason he struggles to maintain his weight despite being fit and active. A 'simple' spag bol must contain stock, red wine, etc., of course all no good for DD. He does most of the cooking, and makes a lot of Chinese food, again with soy, fish sauce, msg, etc. I can't complain about a husband who cooks, but it's not fab for BLW!

Red are you and your DH big readers too? DD is also into music and dancing when she hears certain songs. It's very funny Smile

I do worry about salt content, but I still feed him mostly what we have. Last night we had mince and mash and veg - I had put gravy in the mince but i figure since he was only given a tablespoon and actually ate probably 2/3 of it then it's not really a problem. I just didn't give him any bread that day. I use wholemeal as can't find any white that's dairy, soya and egg free. I give him houmous, again cos it's a small scraping so really not that much salt. Once he's eating bigger portions then I suppose I'll have to think about it more. I don't add salt to anything anyway

cookielove · 23/05/2015 18:40

I am ridiculously lazy when it comes to feeding E and he has mostly jars and pouches, he is 9 and a bit months and I would say only in the last month and half, he really has taken to finger food! But it really is on his terms! Hey as long as he eats I am happy!

OK today he self settled to sleep, this is night three fx he is getting it!

polkadotdelight · 23/05/2015 18:59

I keep wondering about buying a paddling or ball pool fate, I might just do it!

Red Im not wishing the time away as I know the next stage is going to be hard work but I was feeling guilty that perhaps I was delaying him by not doing tummy time. Its good to know that it made no difference for you - thank you!

I am giving DS mostly what we have now, I cant say I am.BLW as I

DH only reads a bit due to severe dyslexia. I don't read as much as I'd like. Especially not at the moment. We do however, both love books. The aesthetic of them as much as anything. Childrens' books are therefore right up our street! I must confess to not much liking Julia Donaldson though.

polkadotdelight · 23/05/2015 20:18

My post didnt work! I cant say we are blw as I often spoon feed to save time and mess. He often has whatever we are having, I try to adapt where I can by using those baby stock cubes but am finding that blw cookbooks are all full fat (I know it has to be that way but its not helping!). I try to freeze little portions when we have leftovers so I always have stuff but I still use a lot of ready made foods.

IAteSomeofthePies · 24/05/2015 00:33

I'm no purist on the BLW. If DS would let us spoon food in, we would.

I want to eat at your house, Apples! We cook with homemade stock, and when there's none in the freezer then we use the Kallo very low salt cubes. I give him stuff cooked with wine, like spag bol, as the alcohol cooks off. When we make curries etc we make our own paste and then take out his portion before we add the fish sauce if it's thai/ add a spoon of yoghurt if it's Indian and spicy.

We do buy commercial bread. It's very hard not to give them bread! A colleague bakes all of her family's bread from scratch but that is crazy far too dedicated for me.

cookielove · 24/05/2015 09:52

We have had success, E basically slept though 6:20pm-640am! He is also going down without milk for all naps! I am so glad I bit the bullet and also so glad I didn't have to do controlled crying :)

TeamEponine · 24/05/2015 10:37

Yay! Well done cookie Wine

KitKat1985 · 24/05/2015 12:53

Yay well done Cookie!

Despite only having 2 drinks at last nights hen party and being the first to leave I still feel a bit rough today. I think it's the lack of sleep (obviously I was still up at 4am trying to feed Jessica etc).

Just before I went out yesterday Jessica bum shuffled over to her toy box and then tried to stand up for the first time by pulling herself up on it. She did it again this morning, so I think she's going to learn how to stand soon. This makes me think she's probably going to go straight from bum shuffling to standing / walking now and skip crawling altogether so I think I'm not going to bother much with tummy time anymore. Interestingly I read the Mumsnet development calendar this morning and it also said that babies who bum shuffle often go straight to walking and skip crawling, so think she may just be one of those babies that never crawls.

Jessica just after trying to pull herself up to stand (sadly we were a bit too slow with the camera to capture the moment itself).

Acorncat · 24/05/2015 14:14

Mine is also pulling himself up, except he tried on his chair which fell over onto him Blush turns out he's heavier than I imagined. Unfortunately this means he's found the only thing strong enough to heave himself up on is the TV cabinet Hmm

We're having a spell of awful sleep here, he was up every hour last night. Maybe it's because it's been quite warm. He doesn't want to be cuddled anymore while he's sleeping which makes it difficult to cosleep when he needs to be at an angle. I tried again in his cot but he woke literally every 30 seconds after rolling about trying to get comfy. I think he hates the hard mattress after sleeping on me or pillows.

cookielove · 24/05/2015 14:40

E really likes a soft mattress, when I moved him into his cot I got a deluxe mattress cover from John Lewis it makes his bed really soft and he sleeps so well on it!

I was playing with E earlier and noticed another tooth has poked through so that's 5 now! :) crap mummy for not noticing before it poked through!

holls2000 · 24/05/2015 16:11

no teeth here. not a single one. please don't tell me my child is the only one on here who is still toothless?

I'm doing a combination of blw and purees. the last two nights he has had cheese omelette to and eggy bread which he fed himself (and the dog. and the floor. and the ants - still on hols so was feeding him by the pool!!) today my mum made roast lunch so I whozzed beef, veg, pots up and gave him Yorkshire pud on its own.

when we go home I am going to start doing us meals which I can give him the next day for lunch.

as for moving.....hmm. mum has bought him a playpen which he has enjoyed and she got him a baby walker which he loves but oh gawd he can get everywhere with it. the other day he went and opened mums heavy oven door.... he is close to crawling and we get a lot of tears of frustration now.

before we came away I said I thought we would be going home with a tooth and a crawler. we go home on weds so he has a lot to achieve in a few days Grin

cookielove · 24/05/2015 16:19

holls E has two friends that don't have any teeth yet, so although I can't comment about others on this thread your baby isn't the only one in this age bracket without teeth! Although saying that E is one of the oldest (and technically youngest if corrected) of the group so that may make a difference! Grin

polkadotdelight · 24/05/2015 16:38

No teeth here either!

RedToothBrush · 24/05/2015 18:21

DS discovered biting yesterday.
He thinks its hilarious.

I am not liking teeth today.

DD is also a toothless wonder!

Nazly · 24/05/2015 23:20

Ds is also a music lover; he's also got his own little taste already. It is so funny when I sing to him, if he doesn't like what I amsinging, he starts saying "ooommm" half angrily protesting;I sing him something he likes and suddenly his little face brightens up and starts smiling. He once cried because my mom sang him some thing blues and sad!!!!

He is also pretty forceful with his taste on food; the other day he was hungry and I tried to give him a simple chicken soup that he didn't like; i couldn't believe but he screamed and cried so much until I thawed one of his "proper" frozen food...!

I feed him mostly what we eat now- for example the other day we had some minced kebab and his was the same but no salt; When we have things that he likes a lot, we just cook twice As much as we eat and I freeze the rest...

I am not too restrict on salt; we don't add salt to any of his food; but that's about it; I give him normal wholemeal toast, soft cheese, etc. I don't give him very salty stuff like homous or soy sauce , etc. We only use Kalo very low salt stock;

I read their allowance is 1gr in day (on nhs site I think) which builds up quickly... But not so quickly to restrict his diet to veggies or anything like that...

Interesting the timing of talking about books here; till recently ds was just into eating them (i tried reading to him once a month or so and felt he is not ready till now), but since a couple of weeks ago, he lies down or sits still for me to read to him, he listens carefully as if he understands and looks at the pictures with much focus.nif he likes a book I can read it to him 5 times and he still listens... Again he has his own little taste , needs to be board book (cause paper is for tearing) ; needs to be massive pictures with bright colours; anything else, he either eats or leave me and the book alone and crawls away!!!

KitKat1985 · 25/05/2015 07:41

Jessica has only just started getting teeth through the past fortnight. Which reminds me actually, has anyway started brushing their babies teeth yet? Any tips? I just think Jessica is going to wiggle away! x

ApplesTheHare · 25/05/2015 08:10

KitKat we had a dental session at the children's centre and they said to just wipe a tiny bit of toothpaste onto a baby's teeth rather than fully brush (because they can't spit out any toothpaste, so would ingest a load of fluoride) so it's not as tricky as it sounds. We just put a teeny bit of toothpaste on DD's brush when we're brushing ours and she copies us and sticks her brush in her mouth. She seems to like the feel of it on her gums.

Now onto everyone's favourite topic... POO! How many times per day are your los going now?

holls2000 · 25/05/2015 08:15

apples, marvellous..poo. I love poo conversations. we are on average having one or two a day. a breakfast one and a supper one. they smell horrific.
