haventgotaclue1 · 22/06/2015 17:01

We're also on holiday! (With in-laws)...dd daytime napping has gone out of the window, but so far so good atnnight - another advocate of the gro blinds here (even if I did have to climb up onto the top of the wardrobe to cover the velux window...).

Food wise we're doing a lot of finger food: carrots, broccoli, fruit, cheese etc as tried to use an ellas kitchen pouch, but didn't go down well - maybe because we were out and I couldn't warm it up? (Don't think in-laws are too impressed by us giving her finger food. ..oh well Wink). Hope everyone else who is on holiday is having the lovely time Smile

omama · 22/06/2015 18:55

happy holidays to those of you away, hope you have a great time!

we've had a horrendous weekend's sleep. DD had us up most of the night on friday, saturday she whinged all day & barely napped. we had a friend's wedding night do on Saturday night, got home at midnight & collapsed into bed exhausted & she started up again, was sick & then screamed til 3am when we managed to settle her with a feed. In the morning I noticed tooth number 3 has cut! Never even crossed my mind it could be her teeth oops! Blush Last night wasnt much better & I'm pretty sure she's got 3 more just about to cut so expecting a few more rough nights.Sad Sad

Poor dd is really suffering with her teeth but omg she is totally doing my head in with her constant rolling at night. I dont mind her tummy sleeping but she wakes repeatedly & screams her head off as she's stuck, and she keeps being sick because of the pressure on her tummy. Last night by 8.30pm I'd completely stripped the bed down twice! Not sure what I can do about the sickness though?

ladydolly · 22/06/2015 19:11

dd is getting more and longer naps here than at home! We're out on long walks so she naps in the carrier or buggy, we don't go out til after her 1st nap and then last one is either in the car or her dad takes her out. 2nd tooth coming so she's not fed much today but once we got home she was starving, so much so I think she signed for milk a few times, dp saw it too so not in my head only!

omama · 22/06/2015 19:40

oh & foodwise dd had porridge with apple & blueberry puree for breakfast, lunch was mashed avocado spread on wholemeal pitta bread & strawberries, tea was chicken in a tomato sauce with potato & carrot (puree) & fruit for pud.

someone asked about meat - ive pureed chicken (in sauce) for dd but have also just cooked strips of chicken breast & given it to her to suck/gnaw. Was a bit worried she could choke but it went ok & she seemed to enjoy it!

As for lumps I've not really attempted that yet - remember ds never liked them though, so we just focused on blw & he was much happier self feeding. So will prob go same way with dd

ladydolly · 22/06/2015 20:30

So what sort of thing do they mean by lumps?

We had toast for brekkie and half and apple. Lunch was carrot sticks, broccoli, peas, a little bit of chilli, pepper strips. Dinner was a crumpet, more broccoli, bread roll and some apricot.

Annarose2014 · 22/06/2015 22:33

Fraught couple of days here as DS has started screaming crying whenever he's a) put into the highchair b) we put the bib on him or c) attempt to put a spoon anywhere near his mouth. Quite traumatic actually!

Google today told me to offer finger foods instead so I hurriedly whipped up some eggy bread soldiers and no problem! He demolished them sitting on DHs knee. So it appears he wants to feed himself, how odd!

I've made porridge fingers for the morning but its suprisingly difficult to switch to thinking of finger foods when you've been congratulating yourself on your new talent for interesting mushy foods.

ladydolly · 23/06/2015 06:28

anna would he accept having his own spoon? only way dd will eat mush/porridge is if she can feed herself (I load her spoon for her) and then I slip spoonfuls in when she's distracted.

I prefer giving finger foods but whatever anyone says - its not less mess!!!

Annarose2014 · 23/06/2015 10:15

DH tried that this morning but he just plays with the spoon and won't give it back! But we're having success with finger foods so its a less stressful house.

He was awake at 5am this morning and needed his first nap by 7.30. Hmm

Greenstone · 23/06/2015 10:26

In my Anabel Karmel books she mentions that babies tend to prefer foods that are either fully smooth (purée) or fully textured (finger foods) and get a bit upset at this 'lumpy puree' business. Which I guess I can understand. I often smear healthy stew stuff onto things like rice cakes, toast or sticks of sweet potato so she can suck it off. She's happier to feed herself but it's my way of sneaking in the healthy and calorific mush.

omama sympathies, we still get the odd random puke, like just before bed last night - she was spewing so much saliva from teething that it sort of repeated on her I think and caused the vom. Delightful. I think teething makes them seriously miserable.

ladydolly · 23/06/2015 20:31

The refusal to fees while we're out continues. Last feed was at home at 8.30, she refused at 11, refused at 2, refused at 4, had approximately 3 sucks at 5.30. I was in so much pain and quite grumpy about it by then. Finally fed at 6.30 but I think it was uncomfortable for both of us then. Will pack a bottle tomorrow but I'm worried about my supply. Also bike ride tomorrow, ouchy full bouncing boobies!! She has in turn been eating loads of food instead, should I limit the solids to encourage the milk feeds? I think she's only refusing because she'd rather be playing with her dad/looking at the trees/pulling my buttons off.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 23/06/2015 21:15

Ladydolly we sometimes only have one good feed all day plus the odd 30sec suck here and there plus a decent bedtime feed he was fed on demand and still is but has always been a crap bf he still wakes a night 1-2times. People say should always give milk before solids I go for getting whatever I can in!! I have taken to making custard with ebm without sugar but sweetening with fruit that gets about 4-6oz in him a day as has some at lunch and some at dinner.

Today breakfast was refused think bored weetabix although refused toast too, lunch was chicken n cauliflower and potato followed by custard with fruit, dinner was a roast dinner followed by custard and then when we ate he had crumpet with homous and brocolli and carrots.

Teeth still remain an issue

Walked to n from school today usually only walk for pick up but crappy roadworks causing chaos so walked 7miles today and my 4yr old total 3.5miles today bless him.

MrsAukerman · 24/06/2015 06:27

Morning.
Teeth causing sleep issues here I think. Up at 4.45 yesterday and around 5.30 today. I'm meant to be starting the trust techniques stuff this week but when it's taken nearly 2 hrs to get to sleepy there's no chance I'm going to risk it by trying new stuff, some of us need to eat dinner!
Food going well and weight gain good.
Tell me I'm not rubbish for not being motivated enough to try harder with sleep stuff!

Hello, sorry haven't been around as I've been very poorly with an infection in my jaw which ended up with me in hospital on IV antibiotics Sad however on the mend at last after 2 weeks and starting to be able to eat properly again.

Will have a read through and catch up later today.

All of a sudden Dd is loving whatever food we give her and has gone back to sleeping through! Woo! she's been such a good girl as there's been a few times I've had to go to bed and have taken her and some toys with me and she's been quite happy.

Dp has done a total 180, almost like he's had a personality trabsplant! But I think councilling and anti depressants are working, he's been a total star the last week or so especially, he's off to Scotland for a drifting weekend so just me and dd fending for ourselves this weekend. DM is taking us to Birdworld on Saturday, I'm thinking it's totally more for the adults benefit but I'm so excited! Grin

Hope all you ladies and babies are well!

Strawberryfield12 · 24/06/2015 07:57

Oh Arkk so sorry about your hospital stay... But great news about the DD and food. Never mind the sleeping through:)

So I am all set to give it a go with the goodnight milk tonight. I do hope it works as we are flying out to my country of origin for a whole month to stay with my parents. They have put up my nephews cotbed but they could not make it as a bed extension to my bed. So every time she wakes I will have to get up properly, not just plug DD in with a bottle and carry on snoozing. For a whole month it will be a killer.

MrsA I so understand you for not having it in with new stuff in the circumstances. If it would be completely unbearable you wouldn't have other options but when it's still so so...

Strawberryfield12 · 24/06/2015 08:08

Btw is anybody else getting hassled about DC big head? I seriously am considering to avoid all the healt practitioners so that they leave us in peace with that measuring and plotting business. Have been referred to paediatrician who simply repeated the same thing what GP did and sent us long letter that in 5 months her development was 6-9 months and stating what me and DP told at the visit and referred us to neurologist. Neurologists yesterday announced that she is clearly very well at this point but they wanted to have MRI to be on a safe side. It just feels that I am constantly going to doctors with a very healthy baby, she hasn't even had a cold once yet and is the happy, giggly one. Surely NHS could have spent resources on those babies who are really unwell?

Arkkorox · 24/06/2015 08:41

Gosh we've not had anything at all like that Strawberry! Sounds all a bit ridiculous! Why would they want to do an MRI on a healthy baby! Confused

ladydolly · 24/06/2015 09:54

I've only had the opposite in that dd's head is on 35th centile while the rest of her is 75th, no one seems to care though.

I think I've read that you shouldn't sleep train while they're teething anyway, come on tooth number 2!!

Get well soon arc!!

TwigletFiend · 24/06/2015 16:49

Hi all, sorry everyone is having crap sleep (except you, Ark, you lucky sod! Grin ) Same story here, up and down constantly for last week or so. She will sleep fine as soon as she's in bed with me but desperately trying to break this habit as I don't sleep well at all that way! As soon as I put her down though she howls.

Couple of nights ago I had to go downstairs to change her at about 1:00 as had run out of changing stuff upstairs and DP had left his flip flops on the stairs. I tripped and fell against the wall and because I twisted round to shield her I cracked my head on the living room door frame Sad On the plus side, DP hugely apologetic and horrified as could have been so much worse and has actually been useful around the house since! So I am milking it as long as possible because normally he's useless!

Still feeling a bit deflated RE food. She seems to be in a bit of a rut and won't eat anything different. So far have tried swede, carrot, parsnip, broccoli and peas, none of which she will eat! We are going to be living on sweet potato and squash forever. I wonder if she'll turn orange like some kind of little Oompah Loompah Hmm

Arkkorox · 24/06/2015 18:23

twiglet ill swap baby sleeping through with this jaw crap, I want to eat things again Sad and DD does these huge grins at me and normaly I do them back but I can't and she looks so sad.

Dp is away now for 6 days.... I'm betting something equals rubbish sleep while he's away lol!

ladydolly · 24/06/2015 19:40

Hard times twiglet!! Poor head!!

Have you tried carrot? Will she eat things mixed with sweet potato? what about other veg mixed with fruit? I've been lucky with dd, she'll eat anything. Did have to mix parsnip with apple to get her started in parsnip but she eats it alone now.

Lunching with her is getting tricky just because I feed her while I eat but in the blink of an eye she'll snatch food off my plate!

We hired bikes and a trailer to cycle 20 miles through the forest today, my arse is killing me but so much fun, does anyone have a bike trailer? I'm thinking of investing!!

Annarose2014 · 25/06/2015 12:26

Poor Ark & Twiglet with your injuries!

My DH had an infection in his jaw once and ended up in hospital, he said it was the most pain he'd ever been in in his life.

Well it appears the Curse of the Dummy is rearing its head already. It has helped enormously at night - he never feeds at night anymore and whilst he still wakes 2X nightly he goes straight back to sleep with the dummy now.

But he's become a total heroin dummy addict during the day. Worryingly his verbalisation has gone down the pan. No more DADADADADA, now its just this closed-mouth whine NNNGGGGGGG!!! which I'm convinced is down to the dummy. Its the only sound he can make with it in! But now he's only making that sound even without it in!

So we're going to have to go cold turkey today. He's not impressed and its NNNNNGGGGGG!!! on a continual basis, whining for the dummy. Doing my head in. But better now than later on I guess.

MrsAukerman · 25/06/2015 12:35

Teething here so no semblance of a routine. He's not nursed since about 4am either. I've expressed and given in a doidy cup or bottle and also on weetabix. I hope he doesn't keep this up as I really find expressing a pain.

Silly night again last night. we had to lower the cot because DD had started grabbing the sides and trying to hoist herself up. She can get from lying down to sitting up unbelievably quickly. So yeah, she wasn't impressed at being in a dungeon Confused I'd forgotten that it gets much harder to deposit a baby in a cot when they're all the way down at the bottom!

She woke doing the conversational YA YA YA teething noise at 10pm, I fed her at 10.20, then she woke just before 1am. I refused to feed and spent about an hour patting her bum while she kept trying to look around and play (YA YA YA). Eventually got sick of it and fed her. Put her down, she sprang awake. Shoved dummy in. She started to play. Lay down in the bed in her room and closed my eyes, was so tired! She played for a good while then magically went to sleep until 7.15am Shock

So a different dummy story to yours this morning, AnnaRose!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 25/06/2015 14:19

Anna I totally sympathize with the whining noise ds does it loads especially when trying to feed him it goes right through me I don't remember my first doing it.

Gave finger foods at lunch as couldn't do with whining gave scrambled egg with pitta dipping sticks and cucumber and plum everything was well chewed and sat happily through lunch n had a fruit pot for pudding.

Now got to get him off me asleep into pushchair for school run I predict a big fail
