So sorry to hear Anna about what you are going through re: your dad's death. Have no idea how I would coupe in similar circumstances... It makes me realise that I try to ignore the thought about my parents getting older because I just cannot picture the whole thing. But I cannot ignore the fact that every time my mum flies over to visit us and I see her emerge at the airport gate I register that she looks older than the last time I saw her...

Strawberryfield12 · 08/06/2015 15:42

Today has been one of those days you want somebody just cancels it all completely. DD woke at 5.30am, but managed to get her back to sleep for 1,5hours by taking in our bed. Woke up to find that our coffee machine needs descaling and wouldn't make not a single cup anymore. DH went over the road to Costa and guess what?! Their coffee machine has been broken! How real is that??
Meanwhile DD decided to skip all her usual naps and was all very noisy and load. At 1pm I took her out in the pram to get down, so she had 30 minutes nap. Then she was falling asleep when I was giving her lunch. Took her upstairs for nap, but she decided to have none of it, instead while on her back she was doing some impressive heals banging and belly lifting in the air. Only now got her to sleep by taking her by my side and pretending to go to sleep.

excitedforbaba · 08/06/2015 16:15

Oh strawberry we have resorted to the car for a random spin just to get a nap of some sort out of her! She had just given in to sleep earlier and those bloody ppi people rang and the phone woke her!

Successful lunch today first taste of gammon with potatoes and veg she loved it!

Annarose2014 · 08/06/2015 16:52

I just got the trust techniques book and I'm not sure it's going to make any difference. Cos he drops off like a dream at 7pm (thanks to Ewan the sheep) and cos he's knackered.

But not sure it's going to help me much with the 5am parties. The first four techniques are for walking out of the room without him crying, but he still sleeps in our room. The fifth technique for co-sleepers is to basically ignore them. Well, thats what I'm doing already!

But will read it more thoroughly later - perhaps I'm doing it a disservice.

Annarose2014 · 08/06/2015 16:56

Strawberry I think you're at the worst stage re:parents. When you see them getting older but don't know what the future brings. I've been there. Its not always a worst case scenario though, she may rattle on till she's 96 like my granny!

Strawberryfield12 · 08/06/2015 17:31

We've got a new game here. When I use electric whisk, DD starts to shout and when every time I turn up the speed and it gets noisier, she raises the voice to out-scream the whisk. We must be very popular among the neighbours...

ladydolly · 08/06/2015 17:47

We also had a 5.30 start but not going back to bed, just a half hour feed laying down. Naps fine thankfully.

The screeching is back. Its definitely to see how loud she can get. We tried a new baby group and other mums actually came up to me after to comment how loud she is! Then onto the pub to frighten the life out of the young man next to us over and over for an hour. Poor lad. Last day/bedtime without her dad, was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. won't tell him that though

haventgotaclue1 · 08/06/2015 20:32

Oh dear...for those of you who bought the Trust Techniques book (on my recommendation...), all I can say is that it's worked really well for us and our situation.

So today we had our 2nd swimming lesson and it must have really taken it out of her as after the session (which ended at 10am), she had 2 naps each of 1.5 hours Grin Grin Grin

Food in-take today: breakfast - plain natural yoghurt and apple puree (not very popular), lunch - sweet potato and seed puree (very popular), tea - carrot and broccoli pieces.

haventgotaclue1 · 09/06/2015 05:23

How does this work? I'm the only one in our house awake (& have been for the last hour Hmm)....

TwigletFiend · 09/06/2015 07:16

Oh dear havent, something's gone a bit wrong there! Grin Hope you are snoozing again now!

I am once again downstairs with DD, she was up at 6 and ready to play. Fab night by our standards, up at 3 because DP fell asleep on the sofa and came up to bed then like he had boulders instead of feet for about an hour then back to bed til 6. I know DP is working but just once it would be nice to get a lie in and have him go downstairs with her. Never mind! Caffeine for me.

Yesterday evening DD had tea with us and ate nearly half a stuffed cannelloni! Shock She was banging her tray and shouting at me if I didn't shovel it in her gob fast enough. I froze the last of it as was obviously a success! Stuffed with turkey mince and bacon as wanted to avoid tomatoes, which I normally put in the beef version. She had dippy egg and a soldier for breakfast (not a fan) and sweet potato and butternut squash mash for lunch (a firm favourite).

Annarose2014 · 09/06/2015 09:25

Twiglet DH gets up with DS every morning and lets me sleep on, BUT that means I have a husband who goes to bed at 9.30, reads for half an hour and is snoring his head off by 10.

So swings and roundabouts! Hmm

Last night DS slept from 7pm to 6.30am. No feeds at all. A few stirrings but I just put my hand on him and he was fine. If only it could be like this all the time! (He did have a MASSIVE tea which might have helped - cauliflower, broccoli and mushy peas with half a hard boiled egg mashed in)

Annarose2014 · 09/06/2015 09:27

Today I will be mostly trying to get those naps from half an hour to a full hour, according to the trust techniques book.

......should be fun......Hmm

catg83 · 09/06/2015 10:46

Hi all. Just wanted to say me and DS are still alive! Just been crazy busy and not had a chance to come on. Will do a bit of catch up and post more later. Hope you are all well and enjoying the sunshine. xxx

haventgotaclue1 · 09/06/2015 12:30

Good luck Anna Grin. Must admit I was happy with her simply napping in her cot bed full stop regardless of the fact that it was for 30 mins at a time. I did consider following the book to extend them, but she seems to have worked it out for herself - yippee! Also, she's reduced the number of naps from 4 x 30 mins to 3 naps a day (generally the first is 30 mins and then 2 of an hour plus).

Twiglet unfortunately no more napping for me....can't get my body clock sorted out at all. Anyone else finding this, or is it just me?

Annarose2014 · 09/06/2015 12:35

Well DS has reduced his naps to 2/3 a day too, but hasn't lengthened them!

But success this morning, got an hour out of him by basically pouncing every time I heard a murmur and shhhhing like crazy.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 09/06/2015 12:40

catg83 · 09/06/2015 14:21

Hello all. Have read all that has been going on since I last read.

I have been absent due to just not feeling like I was coping very well. I have given myself a strict talking to and we are back on track.

DS has been having bits and bobs of food off our plates. He seems to really be enjoying all the new sensations and some of it even goes in the mouth! He did end up having the crusts off pizza for 3 days in a row though. Tells you all you need to know about my diet. All BLW so far but I am not being a martyr to it. Yesterday was strips of omelette for breakfast, pizza crust at the pub for lunch and pasta with tomato sauce and grated cheese for dinner.

Sleeping has been horrendous for about a week now. He goes down easily enough at about 9 but, for example, last night was up at 10.30, 1, 2, 4, 5 and then up for the day at 7. I fed at 10.30, 1, 4 and 5. He seems to be stretching his feeds during the day and catching up at night. Or it could be teething, there has been lots of gnawing on things.

It is really lovely to be back and reading about all your lovely babies. x

Greenstone · 09/06/2015 16:04

DD had a bad night too last night, just to keep us on our toes after a few nights of just 2 wakeups. She woke right in the middle of Game of Thrones - cue DH and I panicking to get her back to sleep so we could finish the episode - of course she took an hour to go back down and only with a feed so we just called time on it. Hope to finish tonight (no spoilers please!). She was awake lots in the night but her nappy had leaked yet again - we'd been using Aldi but going to have to go back to Pampers for night at least. What size are you all using?

7 months in and feeling like I look a bit shit and baby #2 has really taken it out of me. I am quite skinny from the breastfeeding, maybe a bit too skinny. Skin looks grey, and hair is just a disaster. I'm STILL clogging up the shower with my shedding. Anyone else?

DD waved for the first time last night, it was so cute. Not crawling yet though and still no teeth...

happypotamus · 09/06/2015 16:26

Terrible night sleep again, waking every 1.5-2hrs. Fought sleep this morning, then slept for about 2hrs over lunchtime, missing our only group of the week.
We had falafels for lunch. They were a hit. She was very cross when I got myself another one out the box without giving her more. Am planning to make a mild veg korma for her dinner (if I can work up the energy).
She is currently sitting playing with sister's happyland Dinosaurs, which must be much more exciting than baby toys.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 09/06/2015 16:36

Greenstone yep still molting here it's vile really poor Hoover gets clogged with it too.

Cat I think that's what ds is doing barely feeds in day so making up for it at night loves food but has never been a milk lover.

Strawberryfield12 · 09/06/2015 17:44

Also tried to get longer nap from DD, but never worked. Once she's up, she's up. Also most of times it is very difficult to catch the moment she wakes, because she does it without any noise, just suddenly the eyes are wide open.

GP has confirmed that she also thinks DD will learn to crawl after she starts to walk. But then she left me Shock saying that I should not be too surprised if she walks off herself by the end of the summer, apparently she has very strong legs and is showing all signs of desperately trying to stand up (the later I had noticed). Not too sure I am ready for her to walk THAT soon, hope she's wrong about it.

Strawberryfield12 · 09/06/2015 19:44

Not too sure what sort of night expects us, DD has been refusing milk for most of the day, managed to get into her about 400ml. She ate other food after refusing the milk though. She didn't even have a bottle before going to bed, usually she clears off around 8oz before bedtime. It will be around midnight when she realises she is hungry :(
Greenstone we are using size 4 Tesco baby dry nappies. DD is 17lbs.

haventgotaclue1 · 09/06/2015 19:57

Snap Greenstone. Can't believe how much hair I'm losing Sad - really think I'll end up bald at this rate. Hair feels thin; I desperately need a hair cut; and I am getting pretty skinny (now weigh less than before I was pregnant which wasn't a lot tbh) despite eating like a horse - I feel hungry ALL THE TIME. Really didn't consider these effects of BF. Still, think I'll miss it now when I do stop...

We're using size 4 Aldi nappies - DD is 20lbs... Must admit, we have also had a few leakages with them, but don't think any nappy would contain some of her explosions Wink

Thisisimpossible · 09/06/2015 20:43

Hi ladies. Busy 10 days for us house sitting for a friend so I've been lurking when I got the chance. DS adjusted reasonably well to sleeping in his travel cot in a strange house which was nice. Need to start on the trust book when we get home to get him to start self settling a little more.

Hair also just started falling out. My skin is drier than it's ever been and DS is great at grabbing any loose bits he can find. I am sure I've aged visually since having him. Quite a contrast to how youthful I thought my skin looked during pregnancy!

We're in size 4 Aldi nappies during the day and size 4 Pampers Babydry at night. DS is about 18lbs.

Am I the only person closely inspecting the contents of every pooey nappy I take off? It has begun to occur to me it might not be normal behaviour..

catg83 · 09/06/2015 21:03

thisis we haven't had a poo for a week and a half so I am expecting the world and his wife in the next dirty nappy!

About an hour before bed DS suddenly had 2 red cheeks, didn't feel hot so I think we are definitely teething. No idea what tonight holds for us. He had a few feeds since lunch so hopefully is a bit fuller tonight. I am off to bed early to try and get a couple of hours before the fun begins. Good luck to the rest of you.
