Morning all! A shiny new thread for Easter.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, I'm off to eat copious amounts of chocolate whilst hiding in the floor of the nursery with Ewan the sheep Easter Grin

Yeah I'm quite enjoying it! Worried he's dropping a bit much milk but then because I mix feed I'm not sure how much breast milk he's getting.

sazzlehopes · 24/05/2015 15:14

Wow fate just read all of that thread. How amazing and inspirational and sad too. In floods by the end of it.

MundayCakes85 · 24/05/2015 22:14

Evening all, back from the in laws. How have old people forgotten how to behave around babies. I'm pretty sure the baby was asleep until they started clapping and cooing right in her face.
Also she's had a temp for 24 hours, has been eating/ drinking less than usual but still quite cheerful with wet and dirty nappies. Calpol hasn't really touched her fever though Sad
Glad to hear about weaning success and clever crawling babies Grin

Yeah, me too sazzle. I started reading it at some ungodly late hour then didn't want to go to bed until finished. The thread was a good way to remind myself how lucky I am.

Last night saw the shock return of the swaddle.

DD was inconsolable at 3am and this is very unlike her so knew something was wrong. She's been snotty for a couple of days. She felt boiling so stripped her off to just nappy and also took sleeping bag off for a bit. It was meant to be just temporarily while we co-sleep to calm her down. But still restless so in a last ditch 'I can't think of anything else' way dug out the swaddle sheet.

Genuinely amazed that it worked instantly, even though she's 8 months old. Literally instantly, straight away she was silent and still. Asleep in her cot within 20 seconds. It must be at least 4 months since she was last swaddled, but clearly at times still likes the security.

YellowWellies · 25/05/2015 13:26

Fate oh my word that thread. Read it at 11.30 last night and was weeping out of my nose by the end.

sazzlehopes · 25/05/2015 19:51

I can't stop thinking about her, and about amazing people that foster or adopt. I've wanted 3 kids so badly and now wondering about adopting a third instead of having my own.
It's really touched me...I could cry about it now. It's certainly made me so grateful for my position in life, my stable family and my healthy children....

FATEdestiny · 25/05/2015 20:10

Whenever I find nothing much to interest me on Mumsnet, I find myself veering towards the Adoption board. I don't really know why, I have no experience of it and no realistic desire for adoption or fostering. But maybe that is exactly why I find myself pulled toward the board. It's a world I don't know or understand so like to learn and read about the human life involved.

I am really intrigued by some of the parenting techniques and concepts used by adopters. Like "channelling" (the parents being the only two people who provides every need for the child, no need can be met by someone else). The adoptive ideas on bonding and attachment too. It is very eye opening to consider from a birth parent point of view.

Hmm note to self do not leave the chocolate biscuits you were dunking in your tea out on the coffee table when you go to bed.

Just found toddlerwing and babywing both covered in melted chocolate. Oh well at least toddlerwing was sharing!
Not one of my finest parenting moments!!

Kirstipops · 27/05/2015 16:39

Fate, that thread SadSadSad

Kirstipops · 27/05/2015 16:39

Lol Buttwing!!

FlipFantasia · 27/05/2015 17:30

Butt lol! Great sharing by toddler wing (glad you can see the bright side!).

Summer has hit here big time - mid 30s temps and so so humid and muggy. Hoping for thunder storms today to break the humidity.

And my DS has his kindergarten orientation tomorrow. Can't believe he'll be hopping on the school bus in sept!

He 'graduates' from preschool next Thursday. It should be cute to see him and his pals move on Smile.

Buttwing · 27/05/2015 19:29

flip my dd2 starts school in sep and I already fill up when I think about it!
She's got a graduation from preschool too, they wear little caps and gowns and all throw them up in the air.
I'm pretty sure I will be a snotty mess.

We've gone back to night feeds :( I'm really hoping someone is going to tell me there is a well known growth spurt around now?

sazzlehopes · 28/05/2015 20:19

Wow it's so quiet on here. My ds1 starts school this September, I can't believe it and I'm sure to cry when I see him in his little school uniform.
Butt I'm sorry you've gone back to night feeds, I've not be allowed to stop them. My LO is rubbish at sleeping and obsessed with me and the boob. Oh well at least it's not every hour, small mercies - I'm looking forward to sleeping in the future.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 29/05/2015 00:30

sazzle we've not stopped night feeds either. I did get a little excited at a few days where she only woke once but that's over too Sad we've all been ill in our house, bad times let me say! Can't wait for everyone to be normal again!!

FlipFantasia · 29/05/2015 02:34

Butt sorry to hear that night feeds are back...but I'm with Sazzle and IGotta as they've never been away here. In fact, dd2 has dropped a fair bit of day time feeding but still sleeps next to me feeding away (yawn). Still, at least now she spends the first part of the night in her cot. And whether I can be bothered getting her back in again after the 11pm wake up depends on whether I've gone to bed myself. I always take her into bed with me by the 1am wake up though (cot is at the end of my bed but still can't be bothered to get out of bed!). TTSP and all that!

MundayCakes85 · 29/05/2015 06:39

Morning all, could someone have a word with my daughter to explain that 5.30am is not play time. yawn

OP posts:
sazzlehopes · 29/05/2015 08:44

Flip I'm with you....Lo is in his cot in his own room at the beginning then depending on whether I have the strength of mind I decide to put him back down after his 11pm feed but if he wakes again he's in with me chomping away for the rest of the night. The last week too he's been topping it off with 5am starts. Totally broken. Again. Please tell me it's a phase/growth spurt some kind of wonder week so I have light at the end of a caffeine filled tunnel....
Also I've noticed I have quite bad tummy muscle separation, can't rememebr what's it's called - is anyone doing any excerises to stop this...bring the muscles back together?

FlipFantasia · 29/05/2015 13:32

Sazzle sounds like my nights! I've never wanted to look at wonder weeks as I think it would make it all harder for me lol. It will pass eventually. I also have the tummy separation (diastisis recti) and have not been doing the exercises. I now have lower back pain and I think it's related to my weak core so I'm going to check YouTube this weekend and set up a daily routine. The exercises are supposed to be super easy but I've just been disorganised! I'd like to get back into yoga but apparently it's important to get the tummy muscles to knit back together first.

FlipFantasia · 29/05/2015 13:33

Munday we also often have the 4-5am wake up. I tolerate it a little (as she is just so happy and smiley!) but then boob her back to sleep (can be tricky now she has her upper teeth as if she's not interested in boob so tends to chomp down!).

Buttwing · 29/05/2015 15:25

sazzle I've got it too. I've been given some exercises to do by the gp/physio. Now if I can just get round to opening the envelope....
In all honesty it's got a bit better in the last 6 weeks or so but I need to pull my finger out and do some exercises.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 29/05/2015 19:11

Butt you're mentioned in the mumsnet talk roundup email! I too know someone with a dog called Deefa. Maybe the same person?!

splendide · 29/05/2015 20:10

We've always had a 5 ish waking - on a really good night that's the only one but that's not happened for ages. He always used to feed then go back to sleep but recently sometimes that's him up for the day! Even bringing him into bed doesn't work it's horrible. I end up sort of wrestling him in my bed for an hour. :(

Missus2ndwife · 30/05/2015 10:07

Hi everyone, been ages since I last posted here but wanted to say I too have an early riser 5.30am but the last couple mornings it's been 4am. I'm hoping it's just sore teeth (which we have none) and not some new wake up pattern.

X

FATEdestiny · 30/05/2015 12:29

What is the mumsnet talk roundup email?! My DH wanted to call our dog Deefa, I vetoed.

Butt - we've gone through various phases of dropping the night feed an restarting it again.

Our night feed is water now. DD doesn't seem to mind at all that it isn't milk so it's not involved a battle but equally doesn't seem to be reducing. Clearly her wakes are for thirst rather than hunger. Not a massive problem for us though because the wake up isn't a big hassle and the cot is still in our room.

Buttwing · 30/05/2015 15:27

Ooh what's the mumsnet round up email?
Am I famous or am in trouble Grin
