Apparently the other thread is closed. How're nappy explosions going?
Baby bought up a little bit, but I thinks it's because she had a total of 9oz in an hour.

Dec that sounds tough, but also sounds like you're doing a fantastic job, and that's because you're a fantastic mummy! Grin

I said never again after number two, he was a nightmare baby!! But here I lay snuggling no.4. I wish she'd stop growing so fast!

Well I'm still up bigfam. If I could frame my feelings right now if say no more. I love my two sooooo much but I can't spread myself any further! I have just settled dd, gone in to a screaming Ds, calmed him down, come back into our room to find an awake dd, resettling her as we speak but can hear Ds screaming again! Have woken Dh, which I really didn't want to do as he starts a new job tomorrow but couldn't sort both at the same time. I think Ds has now calmed down again. Dd however won't settle! Something in the water! If dd had been a better sleeper and didn't have the same allergies/ reflux etc, I think is have made it 3 in a row! Can't do the same again though!

Dec1314mummy · 13/04/2015 05:11

Oh no... Que more screaming! Arghhhhhhhh

bigfam · 13/04/2015 05:18

Hope you're ok Dec and catch a break, I think you're amazing what with having two ill lo's. Flowers

Oh dec it's so hard when you're running between rooms. I've been there with my two aswell!

I couldn't trust ds in his own room at the moment. He's often sick after feeds and needs new gro bags in the night and he chokes and splutters which is horrible. He's so congested at night he sounds like he can't breathe. I've got a drs apt 2moro to discuss his issues as its gone on a long time now.
He's mainly in bed with us at night now, well probably from about 4am onwards. So he does do a good stretch in his own cot.

bigfam · 13/04/2015 13:54

Lo has a strange obsession with the cooker, everytime I take her in the kitchen she starts cooing at it and smiling Hmm

little that sounds like reflux to me. Dd and Ds did exactly that before we got the meds right. Flowers for you as I know how scary it can be.
bigfam maybe she is going to be a chef Grin. I would love a little chef in this house! Myself and Dh can cook ok but we don't really have the patience for it!

Pesto11 · 14/04/2015 13:36

Went for a short walk today, gorgeous sunshine here!
Must buy baby sunhats!

Nesspot · 14/04/2015 14:41

Pesto, I'm so jealous! It's horrible here. I'm just back from a long walk with the dogs and baby and the dogs and I are drenched! I need sun!

bigfam · 14/04/2015 15:17

It's warm enough here for the kids to play in the pool. (sorry ness)

Pesto11 · 14/04/2015 16:43

Boiling here and we are stuck indoors now
It's too hot for baby without hat and proper shade
And she's been attached to boob for AGES!
She falls asleep on the breast afterwards and can be there for a long time unless I purposely take her off!
Don't know of it's a new phase tho cz she normally naps for 5mins!

bigfam · 14/04/2015 17:02

I don't think she's liking the heat either, she gave up scrawled across my lap.

LittlePink · 14/04/2015 20:59

Ds has been diagnosed with reflux but as he wont take a bottle gaviscon was no good so he's on ranitidine now.
Dec- I know your ds is/ was on it. Is it any good? Does it stop the vomiting after feeds or is it more for the choking from the acid bubbling in the throat? The Dr didn't say how long to be on it for. How do you know when they can stop it?

It's been lovely here today. Dd went out with her grandparents and I took ds shopping. He's been so sweet today, smiley and giggly and really easy going.

The nights are rough though. He's waking every 1-2 hours. Dh and I are knackered. Just wish he would sleep through just one night so we could re charge!

Elizadoesdolittle · 14/04/2015 22:37

littlepink sorry your ds has reflux. It's good he has been prescribed medication. Ranitidine will reduce the amount of acid in his tummy therefore reducing the vomiting. if I recall after a couple of days you should see a difference. He'll need to be weaned off it. Your gp will probably advice you to reduce the dose once you start weaning him and then take it from there.

We had a wedding today and my girls were bridesmaids. It was a glorious day. The reception was at a beachfront villa so the kids had fun playing on the beach. DS was very good all day and slept through the church service. Am knackered now. Back to school run tomorrow.

Dec1314mummy · 15/04/2015 03:31

Oh little sorry to hear about Ds.
Both Ds and dd are on ranitidine. It's worked for us and certainly made things better but hasn't been a notice cure. It doesn't stop the sickness as it is an anti acid effectively but did turn Ds into a happy puker as the pediatrician named it! Witg Ds it took a while to kick in as it had some work to do to repair the damage already done, as I imagine it will do with your Ds. It is also weight sensitive so needs adjusting on a very regular basis. Ds is still on it now but a very low dose in comparison to what it was. Things tend to improve when on solids (although I have to admit that Ds went backwards first, but I think that was more allergy related) and when then are more mobile. With Ds he was sick a lot when he started sitting up. Some top tips are; prop everything up as much as possible, don't ever lie them flat and certainly not after feeds (they even have a pillow with the play may etc), hold them upright for 30 mins after a night feed (it's a killer but does really help especially with the recovery and sickness), don't pat or shake when winding just do gentle movements (which is a pain as reflux makes wind worse), don't rock etc especially after feeds.
Depending on how bad things are will depend on how extreme you have to be. Dd is nowhere near as bad as Ds who would never lay flat without screaming even if propped up. He slept in a chair for about 6 months. Dd sleeps in a chair for naps, but this is a new development as she has only been willing to so this in the last week or so. Slings are your best friend as keeping then upright as much as possible in the day will help with the evening.
With Ds I would say that it took him until about 6 months to settle down but he has had major relapses for week bursts since then but that's because his allergies set it off. Other mums of refluxers I have spoke to have improved greatly normally between 3-6 months. Like I say though the sickness has become a very regular occurrence in this house hold but Ds is now not in pain with it most of the time. It is the reason I can't leave him when he cries at night however just incase he has been sick. Oh and when Ds could roll and move in his sleep it made a huge difference as he hardly ever sleeps on his back (when he does he wakes up upset). I don't know all the answers and can only speak from experience but please do ask if you need to.
Oh and dummies really help refluxers. Ds wouldn't take one and Ds will only take one when things are bad and she needs to settle, but the sucking really helps, hence the constant wanting to feed but they obviously scream when they do. Dd still squirms a lot when feeding and feeding can be hit and miss but she is soooooo much better and I know when I haven't upped the meds enough as she starts waking more and being more unsettled. Oh and feed as upright as possible.
Sorry for the long post. I just know how relentless and scary being a mum of a refluxer can be! Sending you a huge Cake and Brew.

bigfam · 15/04/2015 07:15

Little are you bf'ing? If you are and the reflux is really bad, and the rantitdine (sp) doesn't work, I really recommend switching to ff.
I was honestly nearly in tears at one point with the amount of times lo was being sick, but the aptimal made for reflux and regurgitation is literally a god send. (sorry if your lo has allergies and I've forgotten btw)
I know bf is best but sometimes you have to weigh up the options available. X

This thread is such a lovely support. I really wish id had something so supportive with Ds.
Another beautiful day here! Hopefully everyone will have a good day! Grin

LittlePink · 15/04/2015 16:34

Thank you all so much for the advice. We have some bad days with it and some not so bad. Today's not a great day. He was sick all down my back at play group this morning! I don't think it's really really bad as ive seen friends babies with reflux where it comes out in torrents and ive been shocked by how much comes back. Some days it's projectile and frequent but not quite as bad as some of the really severe cases ive seen. One of my nct friends babies had it dreadfully. I felt so sorry for them.

Have you heard of carobel? And where do you get it from? I was reading that it can be given to bf babies to thicken the milk in their tummy so it doesn't come back so easily?
The advice you've all given is really great. The drs don't tell you these things it's ridiculous. You have to rely on forums to get the answers you need.

Pesto11 · 15/04/2015 16:49

Driving 2 miles home and I had to pull over once cz of the screeeeaaaming
Only for ds to stop as soon as I sat next to her. Didn't even need to get her out of the car seat.
And then the next stint of our journey... Screeeeaming the whole way!!!
This time I couldn't pull over cz we were on a dual carriageway and loads of slowly moving traffic! Aaarrrghhhh
Put her on boob as soon as we got in
She's nodding off now
And I think I might too...
Was gna have a shower and eat...too exhausted!

bigfam · 15/04/2015 17:58

Little my lo was prescribed carabel days before I changed to the aptimal formula I mentioned, so can't give my opinion on it. Gaviscon didn't work though and thats why gp recommended to try carabel next, essentially I think it's just a thickener though. Dc's have loved being outside today but I did cheat and keep filling the pool with hot water Grin
They all follow after their dad in terms of skin tone and look like they've been on holiday, all unbelievably brown (excluding baby who's been in the shade) but I managed to get burnt on a 15 min walk to the shop, no fair!

littlepink bigfam is right. Carobel is just a thickener. You can give gaviscon and ranitidine if needed. But if ranitidine doesn't work I would really advise you to ask for omeprozale. Drs always prescribe gaviscon first, then ranitidine and finally omeprozale basically because they do it in order of cheapness. Depending on how damaged your DS oesophagus is you may need the stronger anti acid. But as your ds is young it shouldn't be too bad. Give the ranitidine a couple of weeks as it's better for him to be on that rather than omeprozale as that's the gentler drug if you like.

Beautiful weather again. Had a low key day with lots of washing hanging out to dry. DS been bit unsettled today so I don't think he likes the heat!

Nesspot · 15/04/2015 20:58

The sun was out here too! ?? Well, sort of. Enough for me to walk the baby and two dogs in relative comfort before it rained again.

Poor ds has to wear suntan lotion/white emulsion from March - Oct regardless of the weather to protect his birthmark and has to stay right out of the sun too. I'm such a sun worshipper too but my skin will probably benefit in the long run too.

Sorry to hear about the refluxy babies. Poor babies and poor parents too! xxx
