Ladies that have had sections, how long did it take for your stitches to dissolve? I can't really see my scar but there is a knot sticking out at one end that keeps catching on things.

coastergirl · 06/04/2015 13:16

Hello Ladies!

Re dummies, it had never occurred to me to use one, but one night we noticed Callum seemed to still want to suck but wasn't hungry anymore, so we tried one that had been in a gift, and it worked really well. He has his to get him by when waiting for a bottle, or sometimes when going to sleep. He spits it out when he's had enough.

We have been so incredibly lucky with Callum so far. He's such a laid back little guy, only wakes at night to feed and goes straight back to sleep. We're enjoying it while it lasts! I'm shocked at how amazing I'm finding things, after how poorly I was with anxiety and depression during the pregnancy.

Also wanted to add that I had a really positive ELCS experience, sorry to those that didn't. I hated the numbness with the spinal, but other than that, it was great. I'm still having a bit of pain but it was definitely the right decision for us to have the c-section. I couldn't be happier.

theonewiththenoisychild · 06/04/2015 16:18

stunt if its got a bead and a crimp at each end it will need cutting and pulling back out. totally painless its just the thought thats the scary bit. i had mine out day 5

m33r · 06/04/2015 16:22

coaster so pleased you're having such a great fourth trimester - you were due it!! Enjoy Flowers

coastergirl · 07/04/2015 11:14

m33r thank you! It really is such a nice surprise to be feeling so good. I think we were all prepared for PND based on my previous mental health.

I also meant to mention that I had the beads at either end of my c-section incision. The midwife just cut off the bead from one end and pulled it out from the other. I won't say it was painless...but it was just a tiny sting for a fraction of a second, then over. Definitely nothing to worry about (not that that stopped me!)

Just come from the GP with baby, he has oral thrush which we expected, and a heart murmur which we didn't! He's been referred to peadiatrics at the hospital and we have an appointment 4 weeks today. Trying not to worry as I know they are usually harmless.

3isthemajicnumber · 07/04/2015 21:35

Hi all I've found you! Not been on mm for ages. There really does not seem to be enough hours in the day. I manage to keep up with fb but that's it. I had a girl called Penny on 13th March. Will keep up to date now I now you are here.

M27J5M · 08/04/2015 10:42

Just place marking till I catch up Smile hope your all well

theonewiththenoisychild · 08/04/2015 14:13

hi ladies. hope you and your little ones are all ok.

elijah had his hearing test with the health visitor yesterday and his right ear failed the test. she came back today and its failed again Sad now im worried Sad

coastergirl · 08/04/2015 16:14

How old is he theone? And how was he born?

Callum's right ear failed in hospital too. We were told it's especially common in c-section babies where the fluid isn't squeezed out during the birth, plus Callum tends to lie his head on the right side so it hadn't had as much chance to dry out. We had an appointment for when he was 3 weeks old with audiology and he passed. Smile

theonewiththenoisychild · 08/04/2015 17:13

coaster he is 2 weeks 1 day old and was born by c section so hopefully it is just fluid.

Fondue42 · 08/04/2015 19:59

Hello all!

Well in my last post on the previous thread I was bemoaning that nothing was happening for me. About an hour later, my waters broke, then contractions began a few hours after. Contractions were every 2mins from the start, and remained that way throughout the majority of labour... 27 hours! Turns out the baby was back to back, but this wasn't worked out until about 24 hours in, and having been fully dilated for over 12 hours. Had an epidural, prepped for emcs just in case, but delivered by forceps in theatre in a few short minutes... Very relieved! The most painful experience of my life, I won't forget this in a hurry, and have been referred for a full debriefing of the experience to help get my head around it, and put things that happened in the right order. I had all the drugs going and can highly recommend remifentanil as the most effective pain relief (other than epidural, obviously).

So to the stats...

Thomas William was born on 31st March at 1am, weighing 6lb 15oz. He has a full head of dark hair, and I am totally in love!??

Unfortunately we ended up being re admitted to the maternity ward for a few days due to excessive weight loss. But now at home again, and my wee man is constantly at my boob. When not at the breast, then the pump is there instead... Exhausting regime to get him fattened up, but should be able to relax it back over the next few weeks as long as he is growing well. Those that are only getting 30mins sleep at a time... Yes me too. But I was not getting much sleep for the last 20 weeks of pregnancy, so I'm kind of used to it. But there is one difference: the quality of sleep in those 30minutes is amazing! Breastfeeding hormones are sleep juice for me! I'm looking forward to the day when I can get a full night of sleep again ??, hopefully just a few weeks away?!

It has been 8 days now, and I only just started to feel even vaguely like me after the experience, like my arms and legs belonged on my body, rather than strangely detached. I definitely have the baby blues, hopefully won't get PND, but OH is keeping an eye out just in case.

Sorry for the epic!!!

Best wishes to you all and your new arrivals... enjoy those baby cuddles! Xxx

Ohfourfoxache · 10/04/2015 04:44

Hello everyone, can I rejoin you now that we're on the other side? I only posted a couple of times on the antenatal threads - awful sickness right up to 40 weeks and I was a truly unsocial old bag!

Oliver (Ollie) arrived bang on time at 40+0, contractions started at 00:28 and he was born at 10:48. Got to the hospital at about 06:30 and I was 4/5cm so mercifully they didn't send me home! I fell in love with gas and air it by the time I felt the pain was too much to bear I was 9cm and was too late for an epidural (despite the anaesthetist telling me at a clinic review that I could have something even at 10cm).

Anyway, tried pushing and nothing much happened. He had a monitor clipped to his head and he was starting to get distressed. DH told me later on that the midwife casually asked for the opinion of a colleague, who came in looking rather relaxed, but she hit the alarm rather quickly and within a few seconds the room was filled with people in scrubs. The cord was around his neck and, despite pushing, he wasn't budging - so they went ahead with a ventouse.

20 minutes after delivery and he was still on the other side of the room, being looked after by 2 paediatricians, I'm being stitched up after an episiotomy and DH and I are just staring helplessly hoping to catch a glimpse of him. They got him sorted, all fine, 5lbs 11oz and we're transferred up to the ward.

So we bumble along and something isn't right. He isn't keeping his feed down, when he latches he doesn't stay latched, resort to formula which also reappears. Apparently because he is small he has difficulty in controlling his blood sugar level. So this carries on, and the poor mite has more heel pricks than he has space for - both feet are covered in plasters. Virtually no improvement, so he's whisked off to scbu. I can't begin to tell you our reactions. For only the 3rd time in 15 years I see DH cry Sad

Anyway, he improves in scbu - I know and thank our lucky stars that he was ok, we were hugely fortunate, I know that others go through far worse. It was just a bit stressful and we were in for 3 days - which tbh is nothing really.

So, fast forward to now and he's 4 weeks and 2 days today - and he's a wee gannet! Gaining weight brilliantly (he only lost 70g of his birthweight), I'm BFing and expressing (bit paranoid that he isn't getting enough so I like to make sure I know he's getting a sufficient amount). He's very windy and is on Ifacol and I've got gripe water that we can start using now if necessary. But what I have found is that cooled boiled water helps hugely - he's just done two utterly enormous burps this feed, possibly the biggest so far. Oh, and he burped up wind that was perfectly contained in a milky bag that was the size of a 50p - I just don't know how so much air can be getting in!

Sorry to ramble, it's actually quite cathartic getting it all written down.

Big congrats to everyone - hope you're all enjoying your new bundles! Thanks

StuntNun · 10/04/2015 07:18

Everyone decided to get up early today. Confused Currently holding a sleeping DS4 and watching Peppa Pig with DS2 and DS3. At least DS1 is still asleep or possibly just hiding!

Fondue42 · 10/04/2015 11:39

Oh four, having similar issues with vomiting and wind with Thomas, that was the main reason for weight loss. He started to improve a lot, but today he just spewed up his whole feed again, first time in 3days, so I feel back to square one!

Cooled boiled water... Does that help with the vomiting or the wind or both? And do I have to wait until he is a bit older to try it? He is 10days old today.

ThisWayNow · 10/04/2015 14:44

Just realised I haven't posted yet but thought I had. Sleep deprivation Grin
I love reading the updates and so happy for you all with your loved up hormones- long may it continue.
Sofia was 5.4 weight with low blood sugar and so her feet ended up covered in plasters after all the heel prick tests. She's still below her birth weight but is now putting on weight at 10 days old.
It's a regime of breast, expressing and some formula. Whatever it takes really.

DD1 is pleased with her new sister and is treating her well.

Lizziebear15 · 10/04/2015 18:05

Hi, I am loving reading everyone's birth stories and glad that everyone is ok. I was just wondering if anyone else is having problems with a reflux baby. My DD is not able to lie flat and is projectile vomiting after most feeds. She still sleeps well on me or DH. The last few days have been pretty bad with her screaming in pain when lying down but then okay on being held up right She is also quite windy baby despite infacol and has a rash on her face, back and shoulders (think it is baby acne). Does anyone have any tips or advice, as she is still gaining weight (has dropped a couple of centimes) okay health visitor doesn't want to out her on any medicine yet.

Thank you and hope everyone else is well

Ohfourfoxache · 10/04/2015 18:33

I've found that it helps with the wind Fondue, but it turn it seems to have helped the vomiting too (he was so windy that he would vomit whilst trying to get rid of it). He has also had ridiculous hiccups - after probably 1/3 of his feeds - and the water seems to help with that too. In terms of how soon to offer it, I've only started doing it in the last few days and he's just over 4 weeks, so he's a bit older than Thomas. Ollie is dc1 so having never done this before I don't know how soon they can have water!

ThisWay I can sympathise - seeing tiny feet with plasters all over them is difficult. Sad Sounds like if Sofia has started putting on weight then you've turned a corner.

Lizzie that sounds so difficult. Watching responses re rash/acne with interest - he's got a bit of a rash and has quite a spotty face.

Can I ask, what's the deal with the FB group? Would I be able to join, and if so, how do I do it?

Lizziebear15 · 10/04/2015 19:05

Also meant to add to fondue I have been giving her boiled water for the past week to help with constipation that she had, helped with that but made no difference to her wind at all. She was 4 weeks old when I started. She also has hiccups after most feeds

StuntNun · 10/04/2015 19:07

Lizzie for reflux I would say get the medicine started right away before there's too much damage. My DS3 stopped vomiting as soon as he started gaviscon but it took ranitidine and then Omeprazole to control his symptoms. The quicker you treat it the quicker it will resolve.

DurhamRed · 10/04/2015 20:10

Hi Lizzie my baby finds it difficult to lie flat too. We bought a wedgehog on Amazon which you place under their mattress (for carrycot/ Moses or cot) which puts them at an incline... My baby now has no problem settling on her carrycot as she is no longer lying flat. Apparently it is designed for babies with reflux problems. It may help to settle your baby

Ohfourfoxache · 10/04/2015 20:15

Lizzie how have you been managing the hiccups? I've found that latching him on, giving him water or changing his nappy can help to get rid but I'm not always successful. And the longer they go on for, the more likely his is to be sick.....would be great to find a more reliable method of curing them!

Lizziebear15 · 11/04/2015 19:40

Hi four no magic cure for hiccups I am afraid. The best thing I have found so far is giving her a dummy. The hiccups don't really seem to bother her much though until they make her vomit. If you work something out let me know

M27J5M · 12/04/2015 12:23

Giving them a drink helps with hiccups, HV told me with DS1 that hiccups are caused by swallowing wrong so if they take a drink and swallow again it takes them away

theonewiththenoisychild · 14/04/2015 13:23

four elijah gets hiccups after almost every feed. i just feed him some more and they usually go away
