Thanks for the hats off, feels like I'm failing them right now though. Feeding one at the moment while the other screams her poor little head off!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 07/04/2015 09:36

blank I must confess I'm a formula bottle last thing person - it was the only thing that kept me an oz of sanity with DS. However DD can't have normal formula, so I've kind of found myself forced into the ebf rather than the predominantly bf I wanted.

With the sleeping through or at least longer stretches thing. They all do it in their own time. All you can do is encourage it by keeping things quiet and dark at night and go with any cluster feeding in the evenings. DD has been pretty good she doing a stretch starting from 11-12ish through till 6:30-7:30ish. Then has a good sleep in the morning. But it takes her heavy cluster feeding from 4-5pm until 11-12ish to do it.

blankfornames · 07/04/2015 10:27

Tonights...you are the furthest thing from failing them. It's incredible being able to sustain the feeding of two little people never mind having other children to contend with. Im a FTM and Im struggling with one baby. What you are doing is incredible and you should be proud of yourself.

Why, im not a bfing preacher! I hoped bfing would work out but knew the option of formula was always there. I sometimes get the impression DS is hungry despite cluster feeds so wasnt sure whether ebf was for me. I wondered if a bottle of formula would suit him before bedtime to stretch the sleeps out.

Chances of a shower today? Maybe not at this rate.

SOMEBODY cries if not being held. SOMEBODY wants feeding again 45 mins after coming off the boobs. And SOMEBODY threw up all over the couch again.

GeekyHybrid · 07/04/2015 11:16

Woohoo, we have ranitidine Grin I'm straight back out the door to the pharmacy Grin Grin

Memphisbelly · 07/04/2015 11:41

Excellent Geeky lets hope it works.

We also went docs today due to the ptojectile vomiting after feeds and his coughing getting bad again. They said it is reflux and not on his chest but the projectile vimiting needs to be watched it if doesn't ease then it may be (insert some long name here) and he may need an op on a valve in his tumny but he is hoping its not that. So holding off on ranitadine for now so it doesnt hide symptoms in case it is this stomach thing. The swelling on his belly he isn't concerned about he thinks its just a reaction to something and not to worry

In the night I made a bottle and asked dh to pick him up, when I came back he had changed his nappy on the bed....not on a towel or mat and he had a wee on our fresh bed whch is great when the other sheets are in the wash. I was so stroppy emptying the airing cupboard to find a sheet while ranted how he wanted cot top changer and he never uses it, needless to say dh will be glad to be working away tonight Grin

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 07/04/2015 12:05

Tonights - twins is extremely tough. Twins with 2 older DC - your supermom if you all get through the day in one piece. So your honestly doing amazing even if it doesn't feel like it.

blank sorry I didn't mean it like you were a bf preacher, just that I'm like your DM and SIL. I just think, well theres no harm in trying a bottle before bed. But then you'll get those who tell you definitely not to. Depends how you feel. Re the seeming hungry despite the cluster feeding - do you mean like he seems frustrated at the breast (like its not flowing) or just hungry after the cluster feed? I find if DD is getting frustrated at breast during cluster feeding, giving her to DH for 5mins settles her down a bit (if i hold her shes just demanding milk, if dh holds her she'll forget about milk for 5mins). Then she feeds calmer after - which to me says theres plenty of milk there, she just gets herself a bit worked up sometimes. DS was the same.

Yay geeky!!!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 07/04/2015 12:12

Memphis hope lo is OK. What is it with DH's and changing lo's on the bed? DH did it with DS a few times and he's done it with DD once - she wee'd and I ranted and huffed and puffed for that long afterwards, he's not done it since.Grin

Memphisbelly · 07/04/2015 12:45

WhyO after my rant last night I don't think he will do it again Grin

GeekyHybrid · 07/04/2015 15:45

lancs you have my sympathy, it's so tiring when they have a fussy day. And they keep changing their bloody minds about what they want / don't want - so frustrating!

It turned out obtaining the ranitidine prescription was only half the trauma. It took 3 pharmacies until I found one that stocked it. This involved driving over 20 miles round trip and because I'd thought I was just nipping to a supermarket one I only had him in the car seat. FTM mistake, didn't bother throwing buggy or carrier in the car. Ended up carrying LO in car seat through local city centre to the big boots. Won't make myself do that again! o, and then the pharmacist spoke to me like I was stupid ("do you know what he's been prescribed this for?)!! and tried to tell me it's rare for a GP rather than consultant to prescribe it, oh and that it's rare for bf babies to get reflux as it's normally a formula problem!! I was like dammit, I only got half hour parking ticket for the car just hand the damn bottle over. And breathe.

OH has sorted our car insurance this afternoon and took LO off me as soon as he'd finished his lunch so that I could eat mine with 2 hands (I had been feeding LO to start with) so he's in my good books, for now ;-D

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 07/04/2015 16:57

Tried to get to bf group (and to retail park). Started getting lunch at 12:15, all I wanted was a sandwich, DS just wanted jam toast. DD picked that as the opportune moment to decide she was absolutely screamingly starving hungry, and wasn't going to wait a couple of mins. In the end it was 13:30 when I sat down to eat. Thought I could still make it. How wrong was I - the stupid highways agency have decided its a good idea to have major roadworks on the 2main routes between the town centre and the big retail park - the entire town and retail park are grid lock! Angry Missed bf group and took forever to get to retail park.

GeekyHybrid · 08/04/2015 03:24

whyo that sounds like one of those afternoons that you could do without. I hope your day got better. I'm sat here happy that this is first feed of the night! He cluster fed 8-10 but this is 5 hours laterGrin small victories and all that!

tweety89 · 08/04/2015 04:41

yay geeky! :) The know-it-all pharmacist though Shock... At least you finally got it and you're already seeing results! ;)
tonights I'm having so many problems with a baby and a toddler. Don't beat yourself up. You should very proud of yourself as you're indeed supermom! Just take one day at a time. Flowers
memphis I hope lo is ok.

I've just finished the second feed of the night and I think that he'll be waking up once more before OH goes to work so not happy at the moment.

Sorry for the double post. Page got stuck and I clicked "enter" more than once.

LancashireTea · 08/04/2015 05:12

Yay Geeky! We have fed at 10, 1.30 and just started another one. And for once she has been willing to sleep in the cotbed.
She was a complete pain though yesterday

Went shopping with a friend and she cried for most of the trip. Then I needed to do a food shop, which was bloody awful. Car seat barely git into the trolley and there were no infant ones or ones with the shelf for car seats. So ended up with a basket as well. Probably looked like a right plonker. Mind you, it is our local Asda which has quite a few undesirable people anyway. Wink And I probably looked like a mad woman pushing a baby in a trolley and wielding a basket whilst sweating cobs! FUN.
Oh thought I was mad when I got home and wondered why I didn't just not do the shop and he'd have gone to morrisons later. Hmm He was probably right.

GeekyHybrid · 08/04/2015 07:32

So before I even got him downstairs to feed he audibly fills his nappy. Change him, all good, start washing machine whilst making my cuppa tea. 10 minutes later, whilst feeding, fills nappy again, upstairs to change and this time there's leakage. Soaking bucket required, again Angry Tea is lukewarm, again. Angry PS - did I mention he projectile pooed on me yesterday Shock Angry This child sure knows how to shit!!

Lancs glad you're getting the cot bed to work. Tweety the challenge of one handed middle of the night typing is what keeps me awake to do the feed!

Got breakfast news on, railway line where OH works is on the travel news Shock He's going to have lots of grumpy customers todaySad

Grinningcat · 08/04/2015 10:04

Had 6 week check and all is well with LO. However he has dropped on the length percentile dramatically, but I'm not sure she measured him correctly as he was wiggling so much. He has grown out of the newborn sleepsuit length wise so I'm certain he is at least a couple of cm longer. Gp was very taken with him as he woke up as we entered and gave her big gummy grins throughout and was watching her and having a good look around. She said that he was acted like he was several months older with regard to interaction and behaviour, but I'm not sure about that. Made me feel good though. Just need to get over his length issue Confused.

Memphisbelly · 08/04/2015 10:05

Wow geeky you have a little shit machine on your hands Grin

LO went to bed just after 10 and slept until 3 then woke again at 5 for an ounce and is still asleep now Shock he is clearly shattered from either all the fresh air or having his brother home everyday.

Going to see dh's aunty today as she hasn't met the baby yet, dh is home later and ds is at mums so may see if he wants to eat out.

I mopped my floor before 9am this is a first, I don't do mopping normally but as its so warm I thought hmmm it will dry quickly.......who is this person and what happened to the real me?GrinGrin

Memphisbelly · 08/04/2015 10:08

Grinning they don't measure length here at all even when first born, my hv said length doesn't gain anything as it doesn't show stunted growth or anything, it is something that you can't work on by feeding more etc. They just do head circ and weight here

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 08/04/2015 11:08

They don't do length, in community, here either, unless you demand it - they say it makes no difference. However the hospital paediatricians consider it important and DS was measured for length regularly, once under them. Prior to that I did have to demand it once when DS's weight rose from 25th-75th centile and a stupid HV said he was getting obese based on the chart - he was a skinny long thing. His length was over 98th centile at that point. She did have the grace to look very embarrased then.

I measure DD myself.

jenmcspen · 08/04/2015 11:15

Better night here so feel a little more human Smile
little guy is fast asleep so enjoying my first hot cup of tea in a loooong time!

Not quite up to getting my floors mopped tho memphis! Lol! Whenever I try to do housework, LO cries, so not much getting done here! hehe!

jenmcspen · 08/04/2015 11:19

They don't measure length here either. Apparently it's notoriously inaccurate due to babies legs not being naturally straight and different health professionals measuring slightly differently.

Why sounds like another prime example of no common sense! As if a long skinny baby would be obese! Thankfully I have been very lucky with my hv. Bit batty but very nice. Always tells me what a lovely baby I have and how well we are doing. Is nice to feel supported rather than the experience some friends have had with their hv's

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 08/04/2015 12:18

jen the best "HV" I've come across is actually not a real HV but a nursery nurse who runs a weigh in clinic, the other side of town. Everybody likes her and her clinic is always really really busy, the other clinics run by real hv are now only run once a fortnight they were that quiet! She looks at and takes into account the baby in front of her, as well as the red book. She also has great advice on getting past problems and really listens to parents.

GeekyHybrid · 08/04/2015 13:23

memphis you are way too organised! The only way I got anything done this morning was by putting LO in the papoose. I seem to have a mix of cluster feeding and velcro baby today. Serves me right for having a couple of good days last week where I even put him down in a different room - turns out steam generator iron wakes him. I haven't done any ironing since!
grinning no length measuring here either. I measured him just to compare to clothes sizes.
The HV's at the local family centre are OK so it could be worse. His 6-8 week HV review is next week when he'll be 9 weeks! Jabs are tomorrow Sad Basically Easter got in the way of all the 8 week markers.
