DH put Cyprus as our 3rd preference Grin First two are in Devon, so we've asked to be really close to family or really far away! Could end up anywhere though. It is exciting, but also scary as I'm ridiculously shy.

We didn't pack anything last time as it was only insured during transit if the removal guys packed it, and as we were coming from Germany to the Midlands we didn't want to risk it. Will probably do the same this time as it was so easy!

Hope everyone has a good weekend :)

Naturegirl82 · 13/06/2015 08:04

Whoops fell off thread.

I've now officially started mat leave Grin Tons to do this week though. Hopefully the kitchen will be finished off in the next few days, then I can clean and sort the house and actually get some baby stuff ready!

O's not been sleeping great. She's been waking up absolutely screaming. Not sure if it's teeth or nightmares but it's not been fun. Thankfully last night was better.

alteredimages · 13/06/2015 09:32

Removal guys sound great! Much better than doing it yourself. I reckon that if you were in Cyprus you would see a lot of your family anyway. I don't think many could resist visiting!

I am not that shy but have a very low tolerance for small talk with strangers I have nothing in common with. I try to be nice, but apparently my face gives it away. I suppose I am just anti social. It makes it tricky to make new friends every time I move! That and my extreme laziness.

Hooray for maternity leave nature! Sounds like you have a busy time of it, hope you can manage a bit of rest in there somewhere.

N has been sleeping badly too. He has got into the habit of waking around 2am and sometimes again at 4. He is teething and has a nasty wheezy cough so hopefully the disruption is only temporary.

I took the kids to the club yesterday and DD got sunburnt. Sad. I feel like such an idiot on the one hand that I didn't take more care and on the other am really angry because plans changed without me being told and extra people were invited which was the reason she was in the pool in the midday sun. It is the first time she has had sunburn and is so sad. Luckily DH brought some aloe vera gel back from the UK, and kinder eggs!

The other kids, including N, are all fine and their mums hadn't even brought sunblock (I gave them some of ours). Why did DD have to inherit my stupid Celtic skin?

alteredimages · 14/06/2015 08:10

DD was better yesterday though has taken against aloe vera gel in a big way and is unimpressed at having to wear long sleeves. She likes to wear strappy dresses and her fashion role models are Ariel from The Little Mermaid and Jasmine from Aladdin so her teenage years are going to be a blast if we are still in Egypt! I can see my dad and my aunt shipping over mini skirts and boob tubes just to piss off DH. Still, that is what a lot of the older girls at her school wear anyway.

I have been trying out toddler workout videos with N to keep him at least a little bit active when it is too hot to go out and a lot of them are terrifying. The wide eyed enthusiasm, argh! N hid under the table for one of them and will only do the actions if they involve him being a lion.

Just a quick question: N uses mama, baba, mummy and daddy interchangeably. This is freaking me out a bit because surely he yas clocked that me and DH are different now, right? He still doesn't say DD's name at all. Not sure if this is a bilingualism issue or just him being a bit of a plonker.

alteredimages · 14/06/2015 08:11

And that wasn't actually a question. I meant to ask if any of you have of have heard of anything similar. Smile

Naturegirl82 · 14/06/2015 09:56

O still doesn't say mama or dada. We have other words but just not those yet.

Kitchen is not going to plan. They started fitting cupboards yesterday and I've realised there are loads of mistakes. Seems like they weren't sent an updated plan. Could have done with out the stress of it all.

alteredimages · 14/06/2015 10:01

That sounds stressful nature. I hope they sort it out quickly.

If I were at my flat near the pyramids I would send pics of the kitchen my FIL fitted there before I was on the scene. It is red aluminium with wonky long vertical handles, drawers whose runners are not level and the carousel thing in the corner cupboard was fitted so that the two shelves are on top of each other. Other gems are no earthing in the entire flat and a fridge beside the place for the gas canister. Oh yeah, and sockets fitted with a bezel that stops the plugs fitting in.

FIL is still of the opinion that it is the best kitchen in the history of the world though. Grin

Naturegirl82 · 14/06/2015 12:13

Haha altered thankfully mine doesn't sound that bad! The fitters have been brill this morning sorting it all out and they should be able to get replacement units tomorrow so hopefully it won't have delayed things too much either.

Naturegirl82 · 14/06/2015 14:20

Argh my microwave has just broken! They better finish this kitchen soon as I now have no cooking devices at all!

alteredimages · 14/06/2015 21:57

That's bad timing nature! Hope you can get another. Have you got a slow cooker? That plus rice cooker would see you through for a few days.

Puggle hope you and H are doing well.

FelixFelix · 14/06/2015 22:35

Yes slow cooker! If you haven't got one just a cheap one from Argos would do the job. It's amazing how creative you can be with a slow cooker Grin

S says Dada and it was originally just aimed at DP but slowly I became 'Dada' too and now every human being is 'Dada' Grin I've been saying 'Mama' at her repeatedly for the past year and she's still not said it. She said something resembling 'Peppa' today when watching the telly though Hmm

alteredimages · 14/06/2015 22:47

Yay S! N's first meaningful sound was oinking when peppa pig came on. Smile. I am more concerned because he used to use mummy and daddy correctly and now he has stopped. Will give it a few more weeks to see what happens.

GunShotResidue · 15/06/2015 15:01

L has decided to drop 'mumma' and just calls me (and DH) Mum. I keep trying to convince her to say mummy but she's having none of it. She says daddy, but not realy in context. That and 'up' is all she'll say but the health visitor said it was fine.

Officially TTC as of last Friday, although I think it's too late this month (we were going to start next month but decided to just go for it). Bought some one size reusable nappies today, not sure if I'll get on with them but they are very pretty!

Naturegirl82 · 15/06/2015 15:05

Good luck ttc gsr.

Which nappies did you get? O is in disposables at the moment Sad because of the kitchen work and no washing machine.

GunShotResidue · 15/06/2015 22:19

Thanks :)
Just cheap ones from eBay at the minute. I ordered one for £2.99 and love it, so I've ordered another dozen. They're the ones that are supposed to last from birth until potty training. I got very overwhelmed looking at all the options so I've decided to just get cheap ones to see if I get on with them.

Naturegirl82 · 17/06/2015 10:26

O had another check up with the consultant yesterday. Still all fine, blood pressure a little raised but probably because she was screaming! She is getting better at having it taken now though so hopefully next time will be easier. We were meant to have had a scan but they forgot to send the appointment so will have another one in a few weeks then repeat in 6 months before the next appointment. Had her height done again and she has grown 3cms in a month Shock !!

Swannykazoo · 18/06/2015 08:25

Good luck GSR!
We get words used ocne or twice then they disappear too. I assume there's a bit of making the sound, then the connections have to get wired into their wee brains that the sound is the thing if you see what I mean.
Brother and SIL and nephew (9months older) visiting for the weekend. They're very Gina Ford whereas I'm much more lazy laid back. The naps strictly by the clock have caused strife before.....

I'm strongly considering a slow cooker. Other than pulled pork (which I sort of like) what else could I do with it? Curry? (Always been tempted by one of those Remoska things but then I do find Lakeland to be like crack cocaine)

GunShotResidue · 18/06/2015 09:56

I do stews, currys and casseroles Did risotto once, will probably do it again but DH is keen on risottos generally. Always have to do pulled peek when my sister visits! And this: m.allrecipes.com/recipe/100011/pork-and-black-bean-stew/ is amazing in the slow cooker.

Don't trap the electrical wire between the ceramic bowl and the heating element though, because it melts and shorts the fuse for the whole house Blush it's quite hard to do but I managed it. I've got skills Hmm

GunShotResidue · 18/06/2015 09:58

DH isn't keen. And I missed out a full stop. No excuse as L slept from 12.30-6.15! She's slowly getting better.

TobyLerone · 18/06/2015 09:59

Casseroles, curry, bolognese sauce...

Today in mine I'm doing chicken breasts with onions, tomatoes and chipotle chillies. Layer I will shred the chicken and use it to stuff peppers, shove some cheese on top and put in the oven. I'm low-carbing and DS's gf is coming to dinner and is coeliac. So no grains in our dinner tonight, and minimal effort.

Naturegirl82 · 18/06/2015 10:14

We don't have a slow cooker. Considered it but Dh prefers the pressure cooker, and as he does the cooking I'm not going to argue.

Kitchen work is still ongoing. Was meant to finish last Friday but looks like it is going into next week. I'm 37 weeks on Monday so let's hope baby doesn't make an early appearance. I've warned the builders the baby could come any day and needless to say they aren't keen on being around for that! Only good thing is they are doing a great job and aren't getting annoyed with all my questions Blush

Gunshot that's great that L is sleeping so much better now. I bet that's making a huge difference for you Smile

FelixFelix · 18/06/2015 22:59

Fell off the thread again!

Been incredibly busy sewing every night until silly o'clock. Started with a stinking cold last night too which isn't good timing.

Glad they are doing a good job nature. I hope they are finished soon! Must be stressful.

S is sleeping much better the past week or so. Had a couple of instances of sleeping through and other nights she's been up once, and sleeping until 8 or 9. Still horrendously clingy though and it's exhausting.

Swannykazoo · 19/06/2015 08:38

Sleeping through Shock - that's amazing!
I think I'm going to start trying to lie pretending to be asleep when I hear H shuffle about at night. I think he wakes me up but isn't really properly awake, then as I want to get back to sleep ASAP I clamp him on and wake him up. Or something. Feeding to sleep is still "da bomb" but these light nights are hard on the sleep

FelixFelix · 19/06/2015 08:43

Puggle it's only happened a couple of times but it gives me hope. I've found with S there's a golden time where if I go in at the right time and give her a bottle (she just has a bit of water in it now) she will go back to sleep. After that time she wakes up properly and gets hysterical. She started screaming for an hour just after I posted last night so I think I jinxed myself Grin

FelixFelix · 19/06/2015 08:44

Forgot to say - yes try pretending to be asleep and see if he drops back off. Sometimes S will cry for a few minutes then go back to sleep.
