ella Yes we also have ridiculous names for my son including some similar to yours - Gorgeous Porgeous, Joely-Bug, Joely Boley Boo, Jo-Bo, Mini Man and Buglet.

My elder daughter had lots of nicknames and didn't answer to her real name until she was 18 months - she would only answer to the nicknames. Shock . I had to end up joining her real name to a nickname and keep repeating it until she knew it

FATEdestiny · 03/02/2015 10:25

Zana My DH and I both do these bizarre whole body jumps whilst asleep, or just dropping to sleep. I assume it's something to do with the dream stage of sleep, it is annoying though.

Hope you all had a good night.

jaykay34 · 03/02/2015 10:56

fate and zana - I get those sleep jerks, I think many people do. And you are right, they are to do with the state of sleep you are in. This is the most useless piece of information that I know - but for once I can share it...they actually have a name - Myoclonic Jerks !

KitKat1985 · 03/02/2015 11:14

Oh no Red does that mean you're back to expressing every feed again?

Jessica gets called 'peanut' a lot. It stems from having one of those phone apps that told me in early pregnancy that she was the size of a peanut, and as such as a bump she became referred to as 'the peanut' and it seems to have stuck! x

Ohhh I'm impress at you knowing the proper name for them jaykay Smile

Re nicknames, interestingly Felicity is the only of my children to not have any nicknames from birth. We actually made a point of discouraging nicknames when we picked the name whilst pregnant. The reason being that both DH and I love the nicknames (Fliss and Flick) more than the full name Felicity. We were therefore worried if we went straight in with everyone using a nickname for her, we'd never get used to or grow to love her full name. So for now, she is Felicity - which we all love as a name in its own respect having used it for a while now.

so....baby rice has commenced. b got more on him than in him...how do I know if ge actually swallowed any?! then had massive bottle.

CumbrianExile · 03/02/2015 13:27

We had messy play at a baby group I went to today. A loved it, but was trying to eat the flour and jelly haha. And went head first into the flour and I am still finding it in his hair even though he had a bath Grin

Acorncat · 03/02/2015 14:24

Highchair arrived today, baby rice starts on Saturday!

Dare I tentatively say that sleeping has marginally improved here, the uncomfortable wriggling and head throwing has reduced in the last 3 nights. Of course he still wakes to feed every couple of hours but I'm still co sleeping so he either latches on himself or I wake briefly. I've added in an extra nap at 5pm and bed around 8 or 9pm so whether that's helped or not I'm not sure.

I think DS might actually grow up thinking he's called chicken as we both seem to call him that all the time. I rarely use his name, it's the same with DH and pets, real names just seem to grate for some reason Hmm

Honeybear30 · 03/02/2015 15:44

holls I would imagine you'll know by what comes out the other end? Just a guess!

holls2000 · 03/02/2015 16:47

yeah he produced not long after eating it...it was erm....sloppier than usual!! Grin

cookielove · 03/02/2015 17:10

I called Elijah "baby" for a couple of months after he was born e.g come on baby, oh baby are you sad! I was doing it so much I couldn't remember the last time I used his name! So now he does get his name alot more as well as Eli-O, Eli-jo, my bean, beany bug, squirms, dribble face, snot bag :) and loads more.

He is so unsettled today!

lilone1234 · 03/02/2015 17:35

We call Molly Mollykins mostly but I also call her baby, sausage and cheesy pickle quite frequently too!

jaykay I am surprised to hear someone else knowing of myoclonic jerks! They are a type of seizure we all have when we sleep. I know this from working with children with epilepsy, who unfortunately also had them (amongst other types of seizures) while they were awake. They were amazing kids. It's such a complex disorder and most people seem to have very little awareness of it, it's very often portrayed inaccurately in the media.

So, I got brave and went to a group today - baby club at the local children's centre. There were only 2 other mums there this morning, they were both friendly but already knew each other. Their babies were 7 and 11 months old so Molly was still the youngest by quite a way. She also hit herself in the face with a toy and cried...Apart from that though she seemed quite content with it until she got tired and grumpy towards the end of the session so then I said my goodbye's, but i'm glad I bit the bullet and went and shall persevere!

Now I need some advise please! The past few days Molly has been having lots of small hard poo's. Is this constipation? Sometimes it seems to cause her a bit of discomfort when straining and she has a bit of a sore bottom. She usually has one quite big fairly loose (but not runny) poo every other day but since Thursday she has been having several a day of these small hard ones, though the last was a little looser so hopefully on the mend. She is still drinking as normal and I have given her a little cooled boiled water yesterday and today to try and get things moving. Would you see the GP for this?

FATEdestiny · 03/02/2015 18:30

Hi lilone.

Great that you got out to a baby group. I know it takes some guts the first time but the more you go, they better you'll get to know people. I have a number of close friends who I first met at a baby and toddler group.

Re hard poos. I can't remember if you are weaning or not? If you have not given any solids them I would be worried about any hard poos. Milk only (formula or breast) should give soft poos. Check you are making the right amount of water to scoops if making up formula.

Assuming you are weaning, very significant changes in poos are inevitable. Very hard rabbit poos type lumps would suggest not enough fluids in the diet. Constipation is when she can't do a poo. She has done the poo so isn't constipated, but may be dehydrated a bit.

lilone1234 · 03/02/2015 19:15

Thanks fate. I've switched to ready made formula for a couple of days in case it is a problem with how the bottles have been made up but think I'll call the GP in the morning.

Zanashar · 03/02/2015 19:44

Well done on going to a group Lilone! Smile
Quite envious of your LOs alternate day pooping. DD is a minimum of 2 per day but it's usually 3! All v sloppy, though we've had some gloopy sticky ones (sorry if TMI)

Hoping no myoclonic jerking off DH tonight Confused or I'll boot him right back!!

Nicknames- Zee bear, peanut, cutie patootie, lil miss poopy pants, grumpy bum , boo boo, moo moo are the few that spring to mind. None of the 3 cats are called by their actual names either (collectively they are known as the Moo brothers, and DD is now their only female sibling)
She grabbed the face of one of the furballs last week and he's been quite wary of her since! ??????

Waited 90mins for a weighing today and she's finally back up to 50th centile after being on 9th at 12 weeks :) ( now 14lb 11oz @ 19 weeks ) we are GrinGrinGrin

topmammy · 03/02/2015 20:52

Yay my wifi works again! It made me realise how dependent on the Internet I have become to keep me awake / sane during the night feeds. Eeek!

Cumbrian, I went to a messy play today where there was also jelly and flour. And also beans. Jessica was ok at first but then cried and wanted boob. Then she head butted me by accident and cried loooads. It hurt me and gave me a slight headache so it must've really hurt her!

Co sleeping in the early morning is saving my sanity at the moment. Can't do it on the left side though as it has given me a painful left nipple. I had a crack in that nip in the early days so it's always been tricky that side.

re. TV series - I quite like Grimm. Anyone watch that?

holls2000 · 03/02/2015 20:56

lil I may be wrong (probs am) but I think hard poo is constipation maybe. good luck with doc.

topmammy · 03/02/2015 20:57

Just to clarify I mean co sleeping and feeding lying down. Lol Grin

SleeplessSeattle · 03/02/2015 20:59

Hey guys I've been lurking for a while but not said hi till now. I've got a 4mo son Rupert born 26th Sept. Nick names smoosh sqoosh, squish, rooper trooper, sploosh, Ru, smelly and plenty more!

I co sleep all the time mainly because my stitches hurt too much to keep getting him out of the cot when he was first born. I tried taking him to a few baby groups but I'm down in Brighton and the ones I've been too have been expensive (£10 a session!!) to sit in a circle and sing songs Hmm has anyone had any luck with some down here if you're local?

KitKat1985 · 03/02/2015 21:08

Hey all,

Glad top that you are getting a bit more sleep by co-sleeping. It saved my sanity too.

Lilone tbh those poos do sound like they may be worth getting checked out by a Dr. All of Jessica's poos are, well, cow pat, sort of consistency if you see what I mean. I don't think hard, dry poos are typical.

Welcome sleepless. You're not far from I live actually (I'm in a town north of Eastbourne). Do you have any surestart centres where you are? They usually run free groups. xx

SleeplessSeattle · 03/02/2015 21:14

Oh really? Yes we have a few, I'll have a look around! Is anyone else scared about weaning? I have no idea what to do, milk's so easy!

We've got two bottom teeth now, do they constantly teeth until they're all out? Sorry if it's been mentioned before but can anyone recommend anything decent for teething, he's struggling a bit at the moment

Honeybear30 · 03/02/2015 21:19

Welcome sleepless :) sorry to hear you are still in pain with stitches, it must have been bad! My episiotomy scar is still tender, too tender to be ahem...doing anything remotely passionate with DH which makes me a bit sad :( I'm hoping it will ease with time! You must be bad though if you struggle in and out of bed?

Sure start centres are a great source of free baby groups and you'll get a chance to meet other mums who can recommend other places. £10 doe sound like a lot! I'm in Kent and have found paid groups are about £5-£8 a class, but these are for specialised things like yoga or sensory, not just a basic baby group.

Honeybear30 · 03/02/2015 21:20

Ohhh I'm now thinking you co sleep out of habit because of the early days and have read your post wrong Blush

FATEdestiny · 03/02/2015 21:26

Hello sleepless

I've just found this list of surestart childrens centres in Brighton & Hove. I don't know if any are near you? The activities in surestart centres are usually free Smile

Rupert has the same birthday as my DD, and the day before my birthday Grin

Teething isn't a constant thing, it is on and off until all teeth come through. My children have tended to cut two teeth at a time, often in mirror image positions in the mouth. Then a break until the next pair of teeth come through.

Then not forgetting that once all the teeth are through, you get a few years grace and you then start on the rounds of wobbly teeth and tooth fairies! It's all fun.

lilone1234 · 03/02/2015 21:31

Holls - I think you are right. After having a Google it seems dry/hard poo in babies is a considered constipation as well as no poo at all.

She has had constipation before, but more lack of going completely, apparently is quite common with formula babies. Had to change from SMA to Aptamil in the early days because it was awful.

Either way, the blockage seems to have pushed through and we have had a cow pat this eve! Soaked through to her leggings too...

Welcome sleepless - Rupert is a lovely name!
