Hon that jumperoo is really interesting; it seems very similar to rainforest and it is by fisher price so same company. It has the music buttons and all, so yes, sounds good. I found a review page for you here www.toysrus.com/buy/stationary-entertainers/fisher-price-rainforest-friends-spacesaver-jumperoo-chn44-35354256

Rainforest, which I bought it for its nearly perfect rating on amazon, has got better reviews but it is really big! It occupies a large space and you won't be able to fold it...

Nazly · 02/02/2015 10:02

Oh and about feeding; Fate I never want to replace feeding with dummy but I do think if he is hungry he will let me know. Although recently he never cries for food, just becomes grumpy. I started trying dummy in early morning first.

About giving more food during the day, unfortunately breastfeeding is very much baby led! I don't even know how much he takes to make it more! He has one or two massive feed during the night currently

holls2000 · 02/02/2015 10:44

the feeding//dummy thing I put dummy in at night and if hr is hungry he spits it out and yells!!

TeamEponine · 02/02/2015 11:56

A really important question for you all...

I'm just about to finish Grey's Anatomy on Amazon Prime. What shall I watch next? Seen West Wing before, but I'm slightly tempted to watch it again!

TeamEponine · 02/02/2015 11:58

Oh, the folding jumperoo must be new, otherwise I'd have gotten that! It is fab but it is big!

Last night was marginally better. She was in her own room for the first time!

holls2000 · 02/02/2015 12:20

team oh yes ww.
scandal? I quite enjoyed mozart in the jungle (but I'm a prima Donna muso so that may be why!), parks and recreation?

holls2000 · 02/02/2015 12:20

sorry team was going to ask how last night went.

FATEdestiny · 02/02/2015 12:42

Glad to hear you had a better night Team. Fingers crossed it keeps on getting better for you.

I do the same at night holls with the dummy.

misog2000 · 02/02/2015 13:19

I've just finished Private Practice which is a Grays spin off with Addison in LA which I enjoyed.

Honeybear30 · 02/02/2015 17:10

The jumperoo is here! DS is a bit unsure but mostly mesmerised by the colours.

Now I'm giving him a bottle at night I'm really struggling to get the temperature right. I've been breastfeeding so far so formula is new for me. How do you get the temperature for a particular time? The tub says make with boiling water, or water which has been boiled and not left to cool for longer than 30 minutes, which is fine but the bottle is so hot! I even left it for about forty mins last night and it was still too hot.

How long after I make it with boiled water can it then be used?

CumbrianExile · 02/02/2015 17:26

Honey - Have you tried cooling the bottle in a jug of cold water once you have made it up?

I make mine up in advance and store in the fridge, but on the odd occasion I have had to make it to use straight away thats what I have done. Shouldn't take too long, but depending on how cool DS likes the bottle you may have to change the cold water once it gets warm.

FATEdestiny · 02/02/2015 17:32

Honey - Are you breastfeeding the rest of the time, so it's just one bottle of formula a day?

In which case I would recommend getting the ready made cartons (about 69p each). Take sterilised bottle to bed and carton and scissors. Open carton and fill bottle and serve at room temperature.

This is a tip I saw given on the October post-natal thread. The benefits of giving formula at room temperature for a mix fed baby is that it continues to make breastmilk comforting and favourable for the baby, since it is warmer than the room temp formula.

(it is also a lot less faff to give at room temp rather than having to warm a bottle in the night)

Honeybear30 · 02/02/2015 18:09

I've been cooling under a tap but I think I'm just getting my timing all wrong. I've been making the bottle, cooling slightly, and then doing DS bath but the bottle is still too hot when I get to it!

Ready made could be an option but does seem expensive, 69p a day vs a massive tub that I get I don't know how much out of? I guess I'd have to look at the figures. Re the temperature, DS doesnt seem bothered if it's breast or bottle, or breastmilk or formula, as long as it's milk he's up for it lol. Although I do know he's refused a bottle of breast milk that was too cold. But I think that was defrosted so probably a little cooler than room temperature when it was actually offered. I haven't had any problems with him refusing the breast after a bottle, but then it is early days of offering formula I suppose and it's still making no difference to how long he sleeps.

KitKat1985 · 02/02/2015 18:32

So I went out earlier for my baby break... and then came back early as Madam poopy-pants has decided she doesn't want bottles in the daytime anymore. I feared this may happen as she also refused a bottle from my parents when I went to pick DH up from hospital a few weeks ago but I convinced myself that it must just have been because she doesn't know my parents that well. She refused a bottle from me too when I came back today (I was testing to see if it was me not being there earlier was the problem) but as soon as my boob came out she fed happily. She will however still merrily take her night-time formula from a bottle. Maybe she thinks bottle = bedtime and since she hasn't had a bottle of expressed milk in the daytime for months she has now decided that's the only time she has bottles? Or maybe she was cross that it was expressed milk in the bottle and not formula? To say this is negatively effecting my social life / ability to leave the house child-free is a bit of an understatement. I've said I'll meet a (non baby fan) friend this month for her 30th birthday and told her today that at the moment I'm going to have to bring Jessica with me if we meet up.... and she hasn't replied. I suspect she's deeply unimpressed.

honey if we are going out I do a bottle with cooled boiled water - say 160ml if doing a 240ml feed, then when out add the rest in boiling water from flask then add powder and shake. usually ok temp but if too hot ask for a jug of icy water and a min in that sorts it. could u do similar at night?

Topsyloulou · 02/02/2015 19:30

Honey I make a bottle about 20-30 minutes before I need it. I use a kettle that's just boiled & then put it in a bowl of cold water. I normally change the water once or twice. Once you've made the bottle & cooled it the box says you can use it for up to 2 hours however if I put a bottle in the fridge every night just in case DS decides he wants a feed in the night. It's much quicker to heat a ready made bottle rather than cool a fresh one.

Honeybear30 · 02/02/2015 19:44

Gaaaa just lost my whole message!!

Thanks for all the info ladies, I'll keep at it until I find something that works.

Greedy guts DS took 5oz tonight and still wanted more so I gave him boob to. I can only hope he's nice and full and therefore will sleep longer. unlikely

kitkat sorry to hear that about the bottle. I would say keep trying, maybe it's been a while like you say and she just needs to get used to it again. As for your friend...it's tough really isn't it, you come with a baby now so if she's your friend she'll have to suck it up!

ella I said I didn't have the room either but that one I got folds surprisingly small!

I call DS 'Boo' because his actual name begins with a B and he became 'B... Boo'. I have no idea how it happened but I probably shouldn't keep it up too long, he'll be so confused!

FATEdestiny · 02/02/2015 20:46

I have 4 Dr Browns bottles, so make up 4 bottles in one go and store in fridge. When all used, make 4 more.

When a bottle is needed, 50 secs in microwave. Against 'the rules' to warm in a microwave but hey, I'm a rebel.

I have never done formula night feeds though (breastfeeding in the night is a million times easier).

RedToothBrush · 02/02/2015 20:51

Kitkat, DS is doing the reverse with bottles/boobs.

This means I can get out the house but I'm not getting much sleep at the moment.

I've just bought his cousin's birthday present from Amazon. DS loved playing with the amazon brown paper packing.

Honeybear30 · 02/02/2015 21:52

I'm only doing the bed time feed at seven with formula, all the rest is breast. Im thinking I might make it up earlier in the day when I have more time and when DS is less grumpy. He gets so miserable in the evenings, overtired, which means I am less free to be doing other things. And then I could stick it in a jug of hot water just before bath and it should be warm by the time I come back to the nursery. I shall try tomorrow!

So when storing bottles in the fridge do I need to cool the milk under the tap or just put it straight in the fridge at the back?

I feel like I'm starting all over again with feeding and it's only for one bottle a day!

FATEdestiny · 02/02/2015 22:02

Use freshly boiled water to make the formula (this kills any bacteria in the powder) then place immediately in main part of fridge. You don't need to cool it down before putting it in the fridge.

Can be stored in fridge for 24 hours, so make it up anytime during the day that you have time.

Honeybear30 · 02/02/2015 22:04

Perfect, thanks fate. Right I'm going to try and get some sleep in before the first wake up. Must put iPad down!!!

Zanashar · 03/02/2015 08:47

That's really helpful Fate. I've been bottle feeding for about six weeks and still getting annoyed with the whole making up bottle routine for each feed!

DD got her Jumperoo @ weekend (pre-owned off eBay) and loves it! It does take up a lot of space thoughHmm

Hope everyone had good nights with their LOs. I was rather rudely awakened at about 5am by a sharp kick to the shin by DH........again! It's happens now and again and apparently he's "dreaming". This time he was rescuing me from some animals in a jungle..........am I wise to believe him!!! ??
