Meant to add - the arrival of a first tooth is not adding to the bfing experience! It's fine when he's feeding properly but he faffs on and off and clamps down a lot - ouch!!

KitKat1985 · 09/02/2015 19:05

I'm having the same issue acorn. Jessica also now enjoys grabbing and pinging my bra strap at me whilst feeding great for discrete feeding when out and about.

Jessica seems to have a permanent red bum poor thing. It's not really bad nappy rash but still it's quite red. I didn't realise wipes could be the cause of it. I just thought it was being damp down there! I used Pampers or Johnsons wipes for the first few months but now I generally buy tesco wipes. I might try Huggies next time.

Jessica surprised me earlier by eating half a pouch of carrot purèe then about the same of apple and pear purèe. Then she drank quite a bit of water for the first time; though I had to hold the sippy cup for her. She's just suddenly got the hang of it Grin I think she would've kept eating but I didn't want to overload her tummy as it's surely not used to it yet. How do you know when to stop feeding them? And when should I move her on to more lumpy foods? First time mum confusion lol!

Mn editor makes me mad, fgs we are in 2015!

My post is lost, so I was going to write a happy post for mums with refluxy baby. It is now three days that we stopped medication for reflux and we had almost no sickness, just a couple of very small ones bringing up milk which could happen to any normal baby
Ds is 26w tomorrow, we started having one solid a day in week 24 and 2 solids a day week 25. Moving to three meals a day tomorrow.

holls2000 · 09/02/2015 20:52

nazly that is great news.

I'm not sure when they have had enough. b has had (for the last 3 days) a decent amount of veg puree then around 100-150ml of milk. for the past two days he has howled at 4pm and hasnt wanted his rice/fruit combo first but has taken 300ml milk then some rice/fruit. today he brought some back up about 2hrs later - not a huge amount.

TeamEponine · 09/02/2015 21:19

Nazly, that's great news about stopping the reflux meds. Did you just stop or did you wean off? I've been thinking of trying to reduce DDs ranitidine. Her dose hasn't been increased since before Christmas, and she's put on lots of weight, so it has effectively been reducing fine. Just not sure whether to stick to three time a day, but reduce the amount, or whether to drop one dose and keep to the same amount twice a day.

She is just about in size three now. She did fit in them for about three weeks now, but I still had some size 2 nappies to get through, so I've been using those through the day and size 3 at night.

I've been using Water Wipes and they are fantastic. I'd highly recommend them for anyone worried about harsh chemicals. They are a bit more expensive, but amazon usually had them in bulk for a pretty good price.

Sleeping is still a bit hit and miss here. I am now putting DD down in her basket if we are home for her naps. Sometimes it works, sometimes she wakes after 10 minutes, but I'm going to persist with it. Night times had been getting much better with swaddling and a blanket tight over her. We were worried about her being so immobilised in the swaddling, so got a swaddle pod type thing, hoping it would be just as effective whilst allowing her a little movement in her arms. Epic fail as she can still lift her hands up to her face, so last night I was up with her about every 45 minutes from midnight til she woke at 5 Sad Back in the old fashioned swaddling tonight, so see how that goes.

Is anyone else still properly swaddling their babies and do you know of any recommendations as to when you should stop?

Need to move her into her cot soon as there isn't much space left in her basket.

Wow, all of your babies sound so grown up having proper food! DD is still not showing any interest in good at all and still isn't give months yet, so it's a few more weeks before I need to worry about that!

ApplesTheHare · 09/02/2015 21:38

top we have to make sure dd's bum is dry after wiping before we apply any cream and a new nappy or else she has chronic nappy rash. Can recommend patting dry with some tissue or just airing a bit if you've time. It's the most pfb thing we do but she's got skin problems so no alternative.

Nazly that's such brilliant news about the reflux! Fantastic! Is your ds really enjoying eating? I really hope weaning has the same effect on dd, though I've made a last-minute decision to switch to ff before we start weaning. It means delaying weaning by a week or so while we start to switch, but I just can't bf any more. I had food poisoning last week and feeding a kicking, scratchy baby while trying not to puke was the straw that broke the camel's back. We've had a good run - 5 months of ebf - so hoping dd has had some benefit from that.

Have any of you who've swapped from bf to ff got any tips?

Dd has bright blue eyes and blonde hair from her daddy, while I've got brown eyes, black hair and tanned skin... People are going to think I've stolen her! Grin

misog2000 · 09/02/2015 21:50

Top - strange question but which bum cream do you use? I'm really allergic to an ingredient called zinc oxide which is in alot of nappy creams, my mum only found out when I had ongoing nappy rash for no apparent reason. Just an idea if the change of wipes doesn't work.

Honeybear30 · 09/02/2015 22:17

team I still swaddle, with a muslin just holding arms down and DS wears a gro bag. I'd really like to stop but he just rubs and rubs his face and pulls his dummy out and doesn't stop rubbing until I take his arms away. I even swaddle for naps during the day! I'd love some tips on how to stop because at this rate I can see me swaddling a three year old. I think i have created a bad habit unfortunately which will now be hard to break.

Nazly · 09/02/2015 22:38

Team I have been reducing the medication gradually for a while, for more than two months actually. I kept reducing and if it didn't work, I went back to previous dose. When I say I stopped, we were only on a double dose one time in 24 hours but then I stopped that so many times and had reflux back up until now. I don't think it matters whether to reduce the dose each time or reduce the number of times to be honest, but it is important to do it gradually.

Introducing solid does actually help a lot; but not immediately, after a couple of weeks when they actually start replacing a couple of feeds with solid.

Something I found was that I should be careful with things that may make his reflux worse; as we didn't have any reflux episode I decided to give him some apple puree today- big mistake, it really annoyed him and I could hear acid coming back up; ( I will have apple puree as desert myself tomorrow as I made big portion to freeze !!!!)

Apple, yes, he does, and is loving it. The trick was to avoid anything that may make the acid reflux worse and be very gentle and patient .

He makes a big mess, because he wants to feed himself no matter what, so by now I know whatever portion I prepare for him he will have half of it as best.

About when to stop, I am not quite sure either, I have read that we should be guided by baby; but here sometimes He will have a couple of spoons left, but it has happened quite a few times that his food finished while he still wanted some! I am not too worried about that, but in the first weeks I would be worried of giving him too much of something in one go in case there was any bad reaction, digestion or allergic reaction later.

RedToothBrush · 09/02/2015 22:56

We use Cheeky Cherubs babywipes from Asda. We bought a massive box of multiple packs and still have loads, but we've not seen them in Asda since.

I love Burts Bees Diaper Ointment. Expensive but seems to work if his bum gets very red.

Zanashar · 09/02/2015 23:45

Great news on meds nAzly Grin

DD has dark blue eyes (sort of a regular denim shade?) which haven't changed since birth. Surprised because I'm brown eyed with almost black hair and tanned, that DHs lightish blue eyes seem to have blended with mine and produced hers!
Hoping they stay blue but if they don't she's still beautiful!!

First swim lesson for DD and everyone thought she was a boy because I didn't have her in a (pink) frilly flowery full on swimming costume (she had on a swim nappy with turquoise Splash About pants). She's just 20 weeks, didn't realize it was a faux pas for baby girls to go "topless" ??????
( for the record, I hate pink )
She did well apart from the second time I "dunked" her, after which she proceeded to scream inconsolably. To be fair she hadn't napped all day and was due a feed so that all contributed ( didn't want to take her just after a feed in case she vommed ; recall someone mentioning that on this or previous thread I think?)
Have decided to persevere and signed up for a ten week block in two weeks. Also a new friend from sensory class is going to come with us with her little DS who's a few months older Grin

Carrot purée again tonight and she seemed to almost enjoy it but think her teeth were bothering her as she was very grouchy at bedtime ??

Bum deal website - never heard of this before but thank you to all who mentioned it! I know where I'm buying next lot of wipes n nappies from now. Thinking of switching to Boots Nappies because of the points ( are they any good? Fit, leaks etc?)

Water wipes : definitely best for minimal chemicals but at more than double the cost of Huggies pure (when on offer) which are leaving a lovely soft bum. Found the Aldi sensitive wipes to sting a little when I used them on my face for make up removal ( my way of testing how gentle the wipe is, if it's good enough for my face it's good enough for her bottom) and the Huggies don't irritate my sensitive skin.

FATEdestiny · 10/02/2015 00:00

Zana - The only reason people put girls in full costumes is generally to show the are a girl. Which is rubbish really, but happens. There should be no faux pas about a baby going topless in a swimming pool.

Team/Honey - I'm not sure a swaddle will be the bad habit you fear. When I was a child I loved to be tucked in tight with blankets and was never a duvet fan. Maybe your LO just naturally likes the secure tight feeling. Just go with it. Move from the swaddle to a tightly tucked in blanket and so on. As long as your LO likes the swaddle, I wouldn't worry about it.

misog - The bit of chemistry in the back of my mind (that's not been frazzled by 4 children!) suggests to me that zinc oxide gives the white colour and creamy consistency that sudocream and berts bees ointment (which smells lovely btw) have. The oily based creams like bepathen (??sp) may not contain zinc oxide

topmammy · 10/02/2015 00:09

Ah that's a good idea Apple - I will try and let Jessica air her bum a bit more lol. And pat it dry with a muslin.

Misog - I either use bepanthan or sudocreme. Or Metanium if it's looking particularly sore.

I totally forgot I did use water wipes on her when she was a newborn but yes they are a bit more expensive and I like the packets with the hard plastic tops so the wipes don't dry out as easily.

IAteSomeofthePies · 10/02/2015 02:02

It's been aaages since I posted, but I have caught up with you all (on this thread at least.) it's fab to read all your news.

Baby Pies is 5 months, and we just changed over most of his clothes to the 12-18 months size. I hear things slow down now, so I'm hoping this size lasts a bit longer. Despite my total love of the babygro, we've had to go to more separates, as they don't get outgrown as quickly. We've been in size 4 nappies for about a month, and 6-8 nappies (2 poos) per day.

He's had terrible nappy rash off and on, and Water Wipes seem to be the best for him. That, combined with a pat dry with a tissue and a liberal coating of Bepanthen, has cleared up the most recent horrific bout. Poor little guy! He just seems to have very sensitive skin, with little patches of eczema here and there around his mouth.

We're still in the sleep regression, I reckon, with wake ups every 2 hours at least all night. Not that there was much to regress from. I've only had one sleep myself of longer than 3 hours since he was born. I was getting a bit depressed reading about (some of) your babies sleeping through the night a month or two ago, so I had to take a little hiatus from MN.

This is such a brilliant age. He's smiling and full of motion all day long. He's just got a door bouncer, which he loves, and he's rolling away. He's grabbing for food but we're in no rush to wean, as bf just seems so much easier.

Place marking

holls2000 · 10/02/2015 06:15

I love the fact that b has discovered his voice and it is v sweet ti be woken up by the chattering and singing (even if it is so high that dogs would understand it) but it would be great if it wasn't starting at 5-30am!!!!!!Grin

Honeybear30 · 10/02/2015 09:01

zan I've found boots nappies don't leak, except for very explosive poos. But I think that would be the case for any nappy, there so much of it it goes up his back and out the top!

I have to say though the last two nights we've had a bit of a leak which is funny because it's completely coincided with this conversation and me realising a lot of you are using size four and I'm still using three, and wondering if perhaps it's time for me to switch up. I must have about a 100 threes left though which is really annoying!

misog2000 · 10/02/2015 09:25

I just wondered if it might be the sudocream causing it? Might be worth using just bepanthen for a week to see if it improves? It's not a common allergy but I've met a few different people with it so it's not really rare either.

KitKat1985 · 10/02/2015 09:43

Ugh Jessica had me up 6 times last night. MN should definitely have a tired emoticon. Yawn.

honey do u have a local mums facebook selly thing? I got a tenner for my left over size 3s.

b having a not hungry day - 150ml each feed so far. Going onto 3 food feeds - porridge/veg puree/rice w fruit at the weekend to see if that helps..he has been more active this week what with discovering his ability to bounce!!!

holls2000 · 10/02/2015 11:16

iate we are just starting to possibly come out of sleep regression as he is going 7-5 now rather than 7-1,3,4,4.20,5,5.30 etc etc xxx

misog2000 · 10/02/2015 11:46

Emily has got a horrible cold, I'm at work today desperately trying to stay awake after no sleep, I'm so tired and have got such a headache I may cry.

FATEdestiny · 10/02/2015 13:07

Well, I shall whisper it in the hope that I don't jinx anything, but I think I have had a short lived 4 month sleep regression we are now coming out of.

8 Weeks: 11pm-8am (EBF)
14 Weeks: 8pm-8am (mix fed from 12 weeks)
16 Weeks: Reintroduced dreamfeed: 8pm-11pm-8am
18 Weeks: Early am feed added: 8pm-11pm-4am-8am
19 Weeks: Dropped early am feed: 8pm-11pm-8am

We've now had 3 days of not waking after 11pm until 8am, so I'm hopeful we are over the worse of the 4 month sleep regression. I'll give it a couple of week and try dropping the dreamfeed too.

I'm sorry for those of you struggling with sleep. I have just fed through it all - DD massively increased the volume of milk she was drinking in the day and also at night for the last 2 weeks.

The odd thing is that as this growth spurt (when she developed a lot physically) has finished, she has now gone back down to the amount of milk she was having before the spurt started. I'd have thought her calorie intake would permanently go up. But it hasn't, was just a temporary increase.
