How long til you go Lebkuchen? (And where are you going, nosy nosy Wink) Maybe persist for a few more days to see if he'll start to adapt to the earlier bedtime and if not then you can reevaluate?

Kirstipops · 27/01/2015 13:00

Sorry Yellow cross-posted, what a helluva day you're havingShock

YellowWellies · 27/01/2015 13:14

Luckily DH is on the way home after his meeting finished early. Only another 2 hours. So maybe 6 nappies? I'm planning on handing him the baby and running down the street as soon as he gets in! Grin That's if the pungent aroma of eau De squitty bum doesn't floor him as soon as he opens the door!

wondermoose13 · 27/01/2015 13:37

That sounds a brilliant plan yellow! Grab a massive bar of chocolate on your way out!

I was going to have a good moan about babymoose until i read "shitting like a muckspreader" which is both hilarious wording and absolutely terrifying! How you magical ladies cope with two kids (on a good day!) amazes me! So please ignore "oh woe is me" rant below! :D

After our shite sleep we went to babys first foods, werent allowed to take pram in so angry baby on my knee for 2 hrs. Woman running it was about 13 and shit. Most other mums were snotty cows and had brought dp and their mum! So i cant bring a pram which is marginally bigger than the car seats they all had, but they can bring a million extra people! Wanted to take him for a walk after as he was so grouchy but it was throwing it down. Spent 45 mins trying to get him off in cot and is currently awake in swing but quiet so i can eat lunch.
Really dont understand why we had two days of much better sleep but then straight back to every hour.
His voice sounds really hoarse and scratchy- really hoping its not due to acid because weve gone back to ranitidine from omeprazole :s
Waaah rant over!

FATEdestiny · 27/01/2015 13:50

I went to several Baby & Toddler Groups for eight years solid with my older children, then stopped going 2 years ago when DC3 started nursery.

I've been being badgered to go back since DC4 was born, but don't want to be roped back into helping feel the need to yet.

Went this morning. It is like putting on an old pair of slippers. Load of people I knew, all the old routines I knew, same songs at tidying up time, same luke-warm pot of tea on the go, just like it's always been and surprisingly comforting to go back to.

DD slept through all but the last 10 minutes! Brew

FATEdestiny · 27/01/2015 13:53

Crossed post Moose

Woman running it was about 13 and shit. lol, know exactly what you mean!

You don't need a 'baby's first food' talk anyway Moose - we'll help you through it on this thread. Grin

wondermoose13 · 27/01/2015 14:22

It was all so structured too, at 6 months give puree at 7 give mash at 8 give finger food but you must give every food under the sun before 12 months or your child will never eat it. Ever.
So yes, please do all tell me when/what your dc's are eating so i can join in :D

Kirstipops · 27/01/2015 14:30

Gah. H is on her third change of clothes so far, today, poop city. I'm on my second pair of trousers, she pished on my jeans while I was changing a poonami. Also been sick on me twice. She seems happy enough tho??? (Or just as grouchy as she has been.....)Feeding her as much as poss in case she gets dehydrated, meanwhile I'm dying for a cuppa tea! DH is going straight to band practice from work so I won't see him til about 10 tonight and the house is a friggin mess aaaaarrrrggghhh.

Moose - raaaaaaaaarrr to your pishy day too.

splendide · 27/01/2015 14:31

:)

I love this thread! Was just thinking the other day I'll probably just see what the other October lot are doing for weaning and do that.

FATEdestiny · 27/01/2015 14:41

Nothing to worry about with weaning yet, ages left.

Perhaps get a highchair or booster chair if you are itching to do something. If I was buying again I'd buy the IKEA highchair. I have two highchairs in the garage though so really cannot justify buying another.

YellowWellies · 27/01/2015 15:09

I went to a pish HV run weaning event with my first where they gave loads of allergens (strawberries, eggs and kiwi for example) as first foods. Oh and raw carrot sticks which caused delighting choking and vom episodes. Think I'll just serve gobstoppers, raw oysters and jaegerbombs myself this time! Can't be any worse!

tattyblue · 27/01/2015 15:49

I was going to rely on this thread for weaning advice too, along with the small chunk of common sense I was born with (eg don't feed the baby chicken bones and pen lids) . I'm crap about going to the health visitor because I sort of think whatever they say I'm probably going to keep on doing things as I am because the baby is perky, pooey and growing and what more do you want apart from some consistency from the hell child.

Actually, not to be a sap or anything, but I'm really glad this thread is here. As an only child orphan (SOB tiny violin) I have sort of felt that what I've lacked since having a baby is the reassuring presence of other people who have also had babies and won't judge me too much.

Trying to break the tyranny of the 45 minute nap today I came into the bedroom at 40 minutes, her eyes opened, she saw me, she sighed, she went back to sleep. Seriously, child? Was that all you wanted? knocks head against wall. I'm going to try it this evening and see if it gets us past the first wake up, because we're just all so much nicer if she sleeps from eight.

LebkuchenMonster · 27/01/2015 15:51

kirsti yeah, I might try a few more times for early bedtime, but am more tempted to try to drop the first night feed (which he hasn't really been ravenous for the past couple of nights). I suspect that we really need to completely rejig our evenings though - have dinner on the table when dh gets home, rather than him making it after putting dd to bed.

We are very excitingly off to the UK to visit my folks Grin. Skiing trip is planned for next month though (hope you're enjoying it, goats). I won't actually be skiing myself, as it's a work trip for dh, but dd can do ski school and the restaurant in the hotel is AMAZING.

Sorry to hear about toddler illness, yellow and rubbish info session moose.

ohthegoats · 27/01/2015 17:07

I was going to do child led stuff for weaning with no puree things. Bought a book innit.

Child here less sick and shitty today but definitely not very well. Bundled her up and took her on her first ski lift to get some fresh air into her. We're both going to bed at 7.30. I cant wait!

wondermoose13 · 27/01/2015 18:05

Why does my hell child gorgeous boy hate me? Dh took him for a push in the pram sat &sun at 4pm, got back at 5, he slept til 6. Yest & today i did the same, got back asleep at 5, woke at 5.05!!
Also the little fecker darling has been chewing on my that much that one of my nipples now has a delightfully painful blood blister!! Ffs child!
Im being an epicly bad mother and because he was awake hes been in his swing for an hour howling like a demon and is now in vibrating bouncy chair watching cbeebies!! Im refusing to feed him til 7.30 after hes had his bath! God im mean!

splendide · 27/01/2015 19:22

Sorry you're having a tough day Moose fingers crossed for tonight.

My husband is out seeing a play that I woukd have loved to have seen and he's gone with my best friend. Completely with my blessing but bloody hell I feel sorry for myself about it. Just having a little cry. He deserves to have a nice time absolutely I just wish I was with them. It'll come back though won't it? This time next year I should be able to use a babysitter. (?)

Pregnantagain7 · 27/01/2015 19:56

Evening all :)

yellow you have my total sympathy there is nothing worse than when they are ill I would be seriously running for the hills when dh gets home! Even if only to clear the smell of poo from your nostrils. Ds1 has been ill and teething and Jesus the nappies!! Teething nappies stink like nothing on this earth. I really hope he feels better soon.

I love weaning I remember being quite nervous with dc1 but actually it was fine. One thing I was really surprised at is that babies actually like quite strong tasting food (maybe not for first tastes!) dd2 was tucking into chilli and curry by 9/10 months.
I do a mixture of mashing with a fork and finger foods. I found if I didn't give them chance to get used to just one texture they accepted pretty much whatever I gave them.
Either that or they inherited my passion for food!! Grin

MundayCakes85 · 27/01/2015 19:58

So I'm not the only one then... Think we all need wine and/ or chocolate tonight. Splendide sorry you're missing out, hope you get to go next time.
I managed to find my last nerve for E to get on... She hasn't slept more than 20 mins at a time today, has developed nappy rash Sad and after falling asleep on my boob she woke up and did her moth impression getting transfixed by the lamp. Grrr.
Asked DH to deal with her and he wanted to know why we couldn't just leave her awake. Feel like I'm banging my head against the wall. Sad

Pregnantagain7 · 27/01/2015 19:59

splendide it will come back definitely and you can use a sitter as soon as you feel comfortable. In a years time you will hardly remember this time impossible to believe now but I can hardly remember the early days with any of mine.
I think it's mother natures way of making you have more babies!!
Have a treat, nice piece of cake or order a takeaway just for you :)

Smooshie85 · 27/01/2015 20:04

Gah sorry yellow and moose it's so hard when you have days like this!! Muck spreader made me really laugh!!
I'm dreading next weeks jabs as lo has been a grump crying a lot! Hubs looked after him for three hours whilst I went to my craft group. Apparently lo cried for an hour! Yep that's pretty much what I deal with everyday!

I too will need advise re weening but not yet. I have the river cottage baby and toddler cook book which is really nice, I'm thinking I will have to fill the freezer up with batches of food For when I go back to work *sob

FATEdestiny · 27/01/2015 20:42

I love weaning I remember being quite nervous with dc1 but actually it was fine.

Maybe I am just a slovenly heathen, but what I was most worried about with DC1 was the fact that I would have to start cooking proper meals for the baby. I look back with horror on the atrocious diet DH and I used to eat before we had children, all processed convenience food.

Now that I am cooking proper meals each day anyway (well, apart from the one day a week we have Birds Eye and chips), DC4 will just be offered whatever we are having to see what she thinks. I don't really need to give it any more thought than to remember to start buying Petite Filous again.

Pregnantagain7 · 27/01/2015 21:02

fate I went a bit crazy I will never forget my best friend (no kids at the time) walking in to my kitchen which was full of organic healthy food I was frantically puréeing (no blw then) and saying oh my god love it looks like a fucking harvest festival what the hell are you doing?!
Errmmm ok maybe taking it slightly too far. The others all just got whatever we were having Grin

YellowWellies · 27/01/2015 21:10

Pregnant I'm the same as you. I do a mix of mashed foods / purees (the latter in the v early days when watching to see if any individual foods trigger reflux or bad sleep) and BLW. I don't do either exclusively - I want her to accept that sometimes meals have to be quick and she has to accept what Mummy gives her and that this isn't always going to have lots of choice to pick and choose - mashed versions of our meals are great for that. I also want her to enjoy feeding herself and playing with textures - BLW is great for that. Even if it trashes the floor / walls / highchair Grin

Pregnantagain7 · 27/01/2015 21:24

yellow totally agree, I don't think you have to chose on way or another I think a combination of the two works well. Or has done for mine anyway. A good tip I got was when you give them their first taste cook it in formula/breast milk. I did carrot/sweet potato/parsnips cooked in milk for them all as babies mashed with a fork. Ds1 actually cried when it ran out! And the other two loved it as well.

FATEdestiny · 27/01/2015 22:06

I have an ILB (Indulged Last Born, like a Precious First Born only at the other end of my parenting journey!) moment every time I think about weaning. So I have decided not to think about it very much.

I love my milky cuddles when all she smells of is milk and loveliness. I don't want her to start growing up and having actual food. [slightly forlorn face]

I will be delaying it as long as possible and shall be in no rush when we get to 26 weeks.
