Thanks. I think what I mean about tyre bedtime thing working is that we were having consistently horrible evenings, and then we started having an early bedtime routine and she suddenly started going to sleep really easily, and for a while she'd wake up one or twice, I'd give her a bit of a cuddle or a feed, then she'd go back to sleep again. Then suddenly it all went to pot, but the bit where she goes to sleep the first time easily still happens and the bath stuff is nice. So what I mean is I'd like to keep the bit where we're all happy for an hour and then she goes to sleep, and if it means I have to spend a month sitting upstairs with her feeding solidly after she's woken up and reading dick francis novels on my phone I can ease up about it. The rocking is really what happens when I need a break from the feeding and dp is trying to stop things from descending into crying.

Thanks fate. It really helps to be able to talk it through, and also you're right, I reallyreally don't want the rocking to become a thing, so we'll stop that and start thinking about alternatives as they occur.

tattyblue · 25/01/2015 14:47

And thanks yellow I feel much clearer now about what I'm doing and why (as in, for whose benefit) and so much more sanguine about things, and in possession of a bit of a plan. I really appreciate all the help from you all.

sazzlehopes · 25/01/2015 17:57

I like the advice for the self soothe...I used to be an avid rocker and then they are huge and you break your back! Ds1 liked the dummy and N seems ok with it but really he is trying to find his thumb and I'm encouraging it! Sometimes he needs a little rock with the dummy but I'm hoping the dummy or thumb become the main event...

He's feeding asleep now actually- an hour earlier than normal, I can't work out if this will be good or not! He didn't have a nap after 2.30 through so he was mega tired... Oh the anticipation of the night ahead GrinConfusedSad

I just tried a dummy again but it's now turned into a game of how far can she aspit it. It's actually really impressive.

splendide · 25/01/2015 18:07

A managed to spit his dummy into a bowl of guacamole on Boxing Day. I was impressed.

YellowWellies · 25/01/2015 18:51

Jonas just puked warm takeaway Nando's into his Dad's hands and all over the dog. Boak. Yep the distance they can eject stuff continues to be spectacular. Still he's a lot less mucousy now. Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy

ohthegoats · 25/01/2015 18:58

The whole sleep thing is definitely two steps forward one step back. And on that step back you have to change something to get the two steps forward. I'm trying to think of it as a game.. and know that everything is a phase and whatever is shit, or good, won't last forever. Not always easy when you're massively sleep deprived.

Just took me an hour to get her to sleep... but there's a time difference, so who knows what's going on in herhead.

splendide · 25/01/2015 19:07

It does feel like a game sometimes. Or a big puzzle. The variables kill me - even like one blanket or two?!

MundayCakes85 · 25/01/2015 19:37

Hope Jonas feels better tonight Yellow impressed by your DH's sick catching ability!!
We had a nice weekend in general, pretty cheerful lady and we learnt a new skill! She did have to psyche herself up every time she rolled over but she's getting the hang of it.
Can't believe how much she's changing, 15 weeks today Shock time flies.

FATEdestiny · 25/01/2015 20:25

How to ensure your child can sleep through anything, in 6 lighthearted steps:

  • Acquire 4 extra children in addition to your own four, from various friends houses in the locality
  • Hunt for four Wii controllers
  • Insert one Just Dance 2015 game
  • Leave to dance until 'whos turn is it?' issues arise
  • Add a sprinkling of "Dad Dancing" and a smattering of "Mum Dancing" (4 stars on The Macarena, Oh yeah B-) )
  • Seven loud children and one baby snoozing in the bouncy chair in the corner of the same room as all this chaos!
sazzlehopes · 25/01/2015 20:41

Splendide that guacamole comment made me really laugh!
Sometimes Ned looks like Maggie from the Simpsons with his dummy suck, like he can't decide whether he likes it or not.

I finally got him to sleep at 8...he fought tonight for 2 hours - no idea why...maybe overtired from no afternoon nap. Like you say goats it's a game! Bring on the night, fingers crossed I get some stretch of sleep.

Oh and dairy free people I've discovered 2 AMAZING ice creams... A coconut milk mango one and a choc one called Booja Booja. Both from waitrose and not cheap but soooooo good. And I also spotted an Almond dream salted caramel one next on my list of things to eat! Dairy free is looking ok!

MundayCakes85 · 25/01/2015 21:27

You're making me want ice cream Sazzle I'll settle for a hot chocolate. Glad Ned got to sleep at a reasonable hour- good luck tonight.
We need to give the dummy at the right time otherwise it gets chewed and spat out.
About to watch Mr Selfridges- excited Grin

YellowWellies · 25/01/2015 22:23

Sazzle I've tried the booja booja one but salted caramel is my favourite. Mmm maybe a trip to my nearest Waitrose is in order. 50 mile round trip for ice cream? Hmm

Kirstipops · 25/01/2015 22:34

Ahhhhhggh. What a day, little H has been a bit of a 'mare all day, cranky and clingy, fighting sleep and shouting at my boobs (I swear she actually said the word "boob" too). A workman came to the door (we're having external wall insulation and new gutters installed) about 10 mins after H finally fell asleep on me late afternoonAngry, after getting rid of him she wouldn't resettle, cue some sobbing and trembling lips, not all Heidi's! Didn't get her to sleep until just before 10. DH, worn out and huffy by 3 WHOLE HOURS of her restlessness has fallen asleep on my side of the bed, leaving me downstairs with the wine. Dunno what's up with her, no temperature and no obvious signs of teething still and as I was able to distract her into some smiles and giggles I don't think she was in pain?? I gave her one dose of Calpol just in case but she spat most of it back up again!
Glad to hear about other promising sleeps though sazzle and splendide
Yellow I hope J feels better soon!
Hot choc and marshmallows for me tonight..

YellowWellies · 25/01/2015 23:34

Poor wee dude is over 40c and deliriously muttering twinkle twinkle little star. Hope the fever breaks tonight. DH is sleeping on an airbed on his floor. Love that man. In the worry Lil has dropped her own dream feed. Shock

wondermoose13 · 25/01/2015 23:54

Ah i was a fluke. Awake after 1hr30 tonight :( ah well :(

wondermoose13 · 26/01/2015 01:34

......and we're still awake 2 hrs later. Dh is being a massive pain in the arse and i pretty much want to kill him. Cant believe babymoose tricked me into thinking we were getting our decent sleep back :( i feel so cheated.

I know its not the end of the world but i just feel so bloody angry!

sazzlehopes · 26/01/2015 05:56

.....aaannnnndd we're up. N is overjoyed, me not so much especially as he's been sick on me twice and chewing on my nipples since 3. Toe rag. I'm enjoying my first of many cup of tea

yellow do ocado deliver to you? I've seen it there too!

Moose hope you got back to sleep for a bit after your last post? I know how you feel, it's annoying to have a teaser of how good it could be. At least they can do it...and hopefully will do again bloody soon!

wondermoose13 · 26/01/2015 06:15

Yeh we got 4-6 so thats something i guess :)

tattyblue · 26/01/2015 06:54

Oh man. After all that fuss yesterday she went straight to sleep after her bath at seven thirty, had a brief wobble at about eight, and then with the exception of a five minute feed about 4am has been sparko ever since. I'm sure she does this sort of thing just to make me look like an idiot.

splendide · 26/01/2015 08:20

That's great Tatty. Perseverance clearly paid off.

Good night here too. Sleep by 8, one feed at 5 and up at 7.30.

ohthegoats · 26/01/2015 08:30

Bed by 8, feed at half midnight, wide awake (happily) at 3... still awake at 5. Chatting away. Raaaah.

Anyway, a question:
Is there anything that can be done about screaming? Not in pain or frustrated or upset.. just happy screaming. It's attracting all the localdogs and Iis close to smashing my eardrums.

STIGZ · 26/01/2015 09:25

Dont know if my baby is getting a visit from the sleep regression fairy or the tooth fairy? She has been so unsettled the past two nights, not like her at allSad she has a wee white dot on the bottom of her gum where the first two teeth would pop through and the gum at the bottom looks quite swollen? Other teething symptoms are present, im quite surprised as my first dd's teeth took ages to pop through Hmm she is not napping for long during the day either, when normally she sleeps for quite long periods? Wee soul is clearly upset by something Sad
