Moose Sad I hope he's gone back over to sleep now.

MundayCakes85 · 19/01/2015 05:19

Oh Moose I know how much it hurts when they wake up for no apparent reason. Hope he went back to sleep quickly.
I got woken up by baby's horrendous wind! Shock So nappy change and double boob feed. Hope I get another chunk of sleep tonight.

fedupofrainydays · 19/01/2015 05:21

R has been awake for 1.5 hours now for aecond time tonight and so have I. Dislike this regression thing. Dislike. 3 year old will no doubt get up as soon as I get to sleep again ( if that happens at all). Tired.

ohthegoats · 19/01/2015 08:30

If I only get a week of good sleep before regression kicks in I'll be raging!

But she's 16 weeks adjusted so maybe the last 3 awful weeks were her regression. Wishful.

fedupofrainydays · 19/01/2015 08:42

Three year old woke me by announcing he had just worken the baby by tapping him on the nose. WHY?
Today is a coffee day. No doubt about it.

splendide · 19/01/2015 08:48

The regression isn't completely inevitable is it? It never happened to my nieces or nephews. It's one of those things that I wish I'd never heard of as I have to spend 4 months being frightened as well as actually deal with the bastard!

ohthegoats · 19/01/2015 08:55

No, neither of my nephews had it either. I think the sleep here has been so random that I'll not notice.

fedupofrainydays · 19/01/2015 09:07

No it's not inevitable. I know some babies who didn't have it but my eldest did (not terribly but just went back to more wake ups after just the one)

FATEdestiny · 19/01/2015 09:13

STIGZ, we had a mouse in the living room - or evidence of a mouse - a few months ago. Traps down in various places. No mouse caught and now no evidence of mouse.

So either the cat had it (most likely culprit for brining live mouse in the house in the first place) or it escaped.

Splendide, I had never heard of or witnessed this much talked about sleep regression until I found Mumsnet. I do not recall any of my children regressing in their sleep. Slowly, gradually, they slept better over time. Growth spurts (when breastfeeding), yes, they definitely happen. But evidently the sleep regression thing is not universal.

Kirstipops · 19/01/2015 09:50

My mum and sister don't remember any sleep regressions so I've just been "lucky". To be honest her frequent wakeups only lasted a couple of weeks after her hitting 12 weeks (or 13 since she baked an extra week) and I took a couple of weeks trying to thwart it with a new bedtime routine which may or may not have helped. For me her 11-day clusterfest for her 6 week growth spurt was far worse.

wondermoose13 · 19/01/2015 10:15

I think we got some sleep. Possibly around 5am? Ive no idea. Im beyond zombie today. Losing the will a bit now. Its been over 2 weeks since this hell started and its showing no signs of leaving

splendide · 19/01/2015 10:47

Moose how old is your baby again? Has he been weighed recently? With mine he was just hungry all the time. His sleep still isn't brilliant but there was an immediate difference when he had his tie snipped. I think before he was in a shitty mood because he was just always slightly hungry.

I'm not suggesting he's tongue tied but he might be just needing the extra night feeds?

fedupofrainydays · 19/01/2015 10:59

I have a friend who just got a sleep specilist to help with her almost 5 month old who just didn't sleep. She says it's really helped with a plan - one set of advice to stick to and follow and keep trying without flitting and trying diff stuff out of desperation. He now sleeps 10 hours within the first week of implementing the plan!

fatpony · 19/01/2015 12:49

Wow, your friend must feel amazing Fedup! Has shed said what the consultant advised?

wondermoose13 · 19/01/2015 13:33

splendide he is 14 weeks. His shitty sleep started the day he turned 12 weeks. He had a ptt cut at 6 weeks then again at 12.5 weeks.
I think he probably is hungry because he feeds very badly. The dietician asked the gp to prescribe neocate in case we needed a back up/ for top ups but i called them this morning and they said they will only prescribe if i give up bf! Quite shocked by that as it felt such a big decision to decide to supplement and now theyre blocking it :(

splendide · 19/01/2015 13:36

That's awful, they won't let you supplement?! Apart from anything else how would they police that?

FATEdestiny · 19/01/2015 13:45

Moose - Have you tried normal formula just to see what happens? You can get an individual carton for 69p I think, would it be worth trying just once?

I obviously don't know the consequences for babymoose using normal formula so it might be not possible.

fedupofrainydays · 19/01/2015 13:46

Not told me any more than advising to ditch the dummy, get a sleeping bag, and implement an approach to controller crying for him. It's worked! Will find out more when I see her next

fedupofrainydays · 19/01/2015 13:47

Splendide has a point - how will they know of you give up bf or not?

STIGZ · 19/01/2015 13:47

Sorry moose&fedup for shitty nightsSad

Me & dp got to bed after 1am, he was playing mouse chase while i hid in the bedroom, he ended up going downstairs to get my neighbour to lift the sofa up as it was under there & wouldn't come out! My dog was as useful as a chocolate fire guard Hmm but he caught it by throwing a blanket over it and picking it up in the blanket, it was a field mouse so hopefully a one offConfused the wee thing was probably needing a heat as it absolutely freezing outside Sad

FATEdestiny · 19/01/2015 13:50

Just been googling for neocate, £36 per tub Shock.

FATEdestiny · 19/01/2015 13:54

Fedup - Controlled Crying works in about 3 days in my experience (we've done it with eldest at 12 months and know lots of others who have). It's just terribly guilt-inducing and so very hard on everyone involved.

I can see why a sleep consultant "taking the blame" for implementing CC may make it easier, but really any parent can do it if you have the backbone. I wouldn't try it being 6 months though - probably not before 12 months.

Moose - Just lie to the doctor.

wondermoose13 · 19/01/2015 14:06

Im hoping the dietician will get them to see sense. It seems ridiculous what they are suggesting, especially as we have no idea if he'll take a bottle &/or neocate

sazzlehopes · 19/01/2015 15:03

Moose sorry you're having it so rough. Another idea maybe to try...Ned will wake after half and hour guaranteed if I put him in his back even when he's so asleep Hes limp. However on his front-I occasionally get 5/6 hours out of him. I know it's not what they suggest to prevent sids but we have an anglecare monitor to ease the worry

fed up thought you might like to know we've made progress on the bottle front. She drank 60 ml today happily, no tears. I had to slip the bottle in past my nipple first but then she came off and went back on again herself. It's not total victory but it's the first time she's actually really drunk from it. We're onto our third week of trying daily, and it's been quite demoralizing at times, but definitely think we're getting there- so persistence seems to be worth it.

Also baby is now napping in her crib. One of the very, very rare days where I feel like I'm actually a half way competent parent (it won't last).
