thisis glad your DS is doing better and happy I hope DH's op goes well xx

Are any other bf babies suddenly refusing a bottle. dd was happily taking one but we had a gap of about 2 weeks after christmas when DH was back at work and she started sleeping longer at night. Now she won't take it at all. Dont think its the teat as she's pushing it out as soon as it touches her tongue or lip. It's so infuriating as we'd hoped to go out for DH's birthday next weekend with my mum babysitting but if she's not taking a bottle we'll only be able to go out for a couple of hours :-( anyone got any ideas?!

Great news thisis!

Strawberryfield12 · 29/01/2015 15:20

Snowing in North Hertfordshire!

weeonion · 29/01/2015 16:16

Hi folks.

thisis - great news on yr wee one. Hopefully he'll be out soon and you can all get back into routine etc. X

moggle - dd2 refuses bottle too. Wont let it near her. I started another thread about it. Nothing seems to work - dp feeding in different positions, tried different bottles / teats, dp wears something of mine. Also feeling a bit trapped as wanted to get swimming again and a gig I really want to go to. I am also keen on any advice from other!

we had lots if snow last night / this morning in Glasgow but now wet slush. Dd2 and I had a big long walk round local park this morning after school drop off. I really love the snow so was a v pleasant chilled couple of hours.

ToniWol · 29/01/2015 16:24

Glad to hear your LO is doing better today thisis.

We've had snow but it's not laid so taking the pram out to music class this morning was no problem.

Hoping to start swimming classes with DD as well. Have ordered swimming things in preparation.

What are people dressing their DCs in. We're still in sleep suits most of the time but I've been dressing her in proper clothes when we're going out. She looks so sweet in long sleeved dresses, although as she's now dropped to 9th centime for weight I've been able to get away with buying newborn size in the sales.

moggle · 29/01/2015 16:27

weeonion - how old is your DD? Ours is 11 weeks. Two of our NCT baby friends the same age have also started refusing too. I read that they develop a tongue thrust reflex at about 3m which helps with weaning as it lets them push anything they don't like out of their mouths. That may explain it a bit. She still loves her dummy though and I can't imagine that's much different!
I think we're going to try giving her a little when she's not that hungry and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise just keep offering it and also I'm making sure just to store the expresed milk in small quantities so as not to waste too much!

It's just snowed and hailed here a bit. DD and the cats were transfixed!

moggle · 29/01/2015 16:30

Toni I've been dressing DD in long sleeved vests and stretchy trousers for a while now, ever since we got given some lovely colourful long vests and I wanted to show them off! I actually find leggings easier for nappy changes too. She's got a few dresses but i leave them for visits or special occasions as I cant be bothered with the tights!

Annarose2014 · 29/01/2015 16:32

Toni we're trying to use proper clothes during the day as we were given piles of stuff. He has 5 pairs of dungarees FFS!

He's puked on two, yes, TWO of them already today Hmm so now he's back in a sleepsuit again, lol.

ladydolly · 29/01/2015 18:08

We're also into 'proper' clothes for daytimes now but only because I was given so many. I cannot be faffed with dresses, pulling them down all the time. I like leggings and long sleeved t shirts. Also why do they put to many bloody big buttons and buckles on everything, dd gets really uncomfortable!

approx 2 mins of snow here. all gone now.

weeonion · 29/01/2015 20:26

Moggle - dd is 13 weeks. We will keep trying too. Fingers crossed!

dd2 is in 'proper' clothes - mainly as we have so many with hand me downs from dd1 & friends. She is in 3-6 months for alot of stuff. Eek!

catg83 · 29/01/2015 20:45

DS has never taken a bottle. He is 9 weeks tomorrow. When I spoke to breast feeding counsellor about in on Monday she thinks we might have reached the sweet spot so he might not take it now Sad We will keep on trying. HV today also mentioned cup feeding but I am guessing that would be harder for me to leave him as how much time would I have to spend explaining to someone else how to do it.

catg83 · 29/01/2015 20:46

DS tends to be in "proper clothes" when out and about. at home he tends to be in sleep suits as it is easier. I sometimes feel a bit ridiculous changing him out of one sleep suit and into another for bedtime routine. x

Annarose2014 · 29/01/2015 21:22

Me too cat. I feel even more ridiculous throwing the first sleepsuit into the washing machine when it looks perfectly fine. But I tell myself it could be sweaty and its a good habit to get into.

I have a friend who had to go back to work recently at 4 months doing long shifts and so was faced with training the baby on the bottle. She said it took three days of Hell. The first day it took her three full hours to get one small bottle into him. It was tough. But she had no choice so she persevered. After the three days though he took the bottle happily.

WorkFreeWannabe · 29/01/2015 21:34

ThisIs, glad to hear your LO is doing much better.

Hopefully your DH is back on his feet soon Happy

We're the same here proper clothes for going out and sleepsuits during the days at home. Although I've had him in proper pyjamas at night from around 6 weeks as I find it easier to deal with trousers rather than the faff of a sleepsuit when I'm half asleep.

Went to my mum's today so I could have someone look after DS whilst I washed and styled my hair in a new style I wanted to try. Came home only for DH to say he doesn't like it and why can't I go back to the old style. Well excuse me for wanting to switch it up Hmm

juulie · 29/01/2015 21:47

Hello folks. Just dropped in to say hello and hopefully now I've commented I'll be able to find this thread! My girl is currently 9 weeks. I read with horror above something about a 'sweet spot' and not being able to bottle feed so I'd better get expressing milk tomorrow! Have been EBF and not daring to rock the boat by introducing bottles. We were snowed in today, so my considerable efforts to get us up and ready for morning baby session at children's centre were not needed! Lovely day in. Re clothing, my lo is almost exclusively in sleep suits as that seems the most practical and comfy thing. I don't change them at any particular time, just when it seems needed, which is quite frequently! Hope you've all had a good day. Nice to meet you all. x

amy83firsttimer · 29/01/2015 22:29

Hello juulie! Have you been lurking a while or just joined us now? How have you found things so far? Is this your first?
I have a 9 week boy - first baby and going well so far #touches wood

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 30/01/2015 00:15

Baby is 10weeks and has worn clothes in day since 3 days old just soft cotton/jersery dungarees with long sleeve vests currently in 0-3 but soon will be in 3-6. (Anna we have about 6 dunagrees n he wears them all but I only wash 2-3 Times a week).

We use sleepsuits at night and I don't nappy change at night it's megs wet in morning.

Thisisimpossible · 30/01/2015 08:09

Welcome Juulie my DS is 9 weeks old too.

He's taken EBF from a bottle fine up to now on the odd occasions he's had it but this week since he's been ill he has refused the bottle completely. Not sure if it was because he was struggling to feed full stop - I was trying it from a bottle as he couldn't breathe through his nose well enough to bf and he was finding bfing too hard. Am really hoping it's just because he was ill...

I usually dress DS in soft t-shirty material tops and various trousers during the day and then change to sleep suit about 5ish. Since he's been ill though I have left him in sleep suits so that he's been as comfortable as possible. It's been so easy I might just continue with that unless we're going out anywhere!

Hoping to be discharged today. He's definitely feeling better - he spent ALL of last evening from 7 to midnight wide awake chatting and kicking and wriggling. Every time I thought I'd got him to sleep and put him in the cot he'd open his eyes and grin at me. After 5 nights of no sleep I struggled to find it quite as amusing as he did. SO pleased he is well enough to do that though. It's been a tough week!

Annarose2014 · 30/01/2015 09:08

Wonderful news!

Good luck with the expressing juulie. Do you have an electric or a manual? I actually found the manual faster than the electric, funnily enough. I went like the clappers with it!

Comtinuing to go to bed at 7pm with the baby but I just can't switch off till that 11.30 feed is done. Still, I get three solid hours after that before the next feed cos I'm relaxed already and go to sleep straight away. Whereas before I was lying awake thinking till 12.30. Might change it to go to bed at 9pm tonight though to catch some telly.

The baby is definately a 7 till 7 creature as he's wide awake and is impossible to settle after the 6.30 feed unless I bring him into the bed with me. Which I do as I ain't getting up at 7 for no reason! Grin He goes back to sleep till 8.30 then, snuggled into me.

Does anyone else have a feed around 6.30? What happens after? Do they go back to sleep again?

moggle · 30/01/2015 09:13

Thisis that's great news! Glad he's got the energy to be a little tinker again!!

weeonion I did some experimenting last night with DD- she sucked the bottle teat on its own like a dummy happily, and when it was attached to an empty bottle. So I'm wondering if she has got a bit fussy and wants the milk warmed now? Previously we've just taken the chill off it by running it under a hot tap. Think this weekend we will try offering it frequently for a short time and hope she tries it eventually.

catg83 · 30/01/2015 09:16

hiya juulie. Ignore what I said about the sweet spot. That was one persons opinion. I am persevering and trying tommee tippee bottle again today. We will see how we get on.

Mastitis feeling much better today. So many painkillers! Grin I think the cabbage has made a real difference too. When I was in a hot bath last night a was massaging it under the hot water and I swear I actually felt the lumpy but give. A very odd sensation of something moving under the fatty flesh.

Strawberryfield12 · 30/01/2015 09:54

Good to hear thisis! Hope you have a relaxed Friday evening at home today! (I still have that sweet feeling of the weekends despite being off work for almost 3 months now).

Our DD is still for most of the time in sleepsuits most of the time. I was hoping to dress her in trousers in tops but she cannot stand things being pulled over her head, so there will be quite a few tops not worn once to pass down to some other baby. It seems bit difficult with her at the moment to have day and night clothes, have to change her about 4 times a day anyway. Especially since I switched from new baby pampers to baby dry ones (not dry at all for us!).

Had bit restless evening after the jabs, DD had a bit f fever, but today she is back to her normal self - kicking and cheering at the mobile.

Annarose2014 · 30/01/2015 10:28

Strawberry we had that when we first switched to babydry but in hindsight I suspect he was just at that inbetween size where leaks happen. Cos since he's chubbed out a bit they've stopped.

Have started keeping a log of feeds and naps to see if there's a pattern and there definatley is. Yesterday he had a nap at 10 so today I swaddled him and started shushing/rocking at exactly 10 and he went down without a meltdown! Yay!

Next nap is at 12.30. If I have to be this regimented to avoid overtired screaming fits then so be it. I'll do bloody anything.

Greenstone · 30/01/2015 10:34

thisis so glad your ds is doing well. It's very frightening when they are so small and struggling. I'm sure he'll bounce right back!

Mostly sleep suits here, just couldn't be bothered with real clothes just yet and we're trying to manage our out of control laundry basket so I could never put a clean baby gro into the wash! Dd pukes a lot though so lots of changed anyway. I do actually love leggings and cardis for babies and need to get more. Where do ye buy your leggings? Or those thick scandi tights look great too.

ladydolly · 30/01/2015 10:37

I still get the tfi friday feeling, because I know I have dp to help me over the weekend.
I have to go to work this afternoon for my appraisal, first time I've left dd with anyone but dp (my mum is coming over) and for over an hour. Have left a bottle of breast milk but its been a couple of weeks since she had it - eeeek!! wish me luck!
