Here's hoping, anyway...

Sorry to hear that Workfree. Amazing how a cute smiling baby can draw a smile from even the saddest person. Circle of life and all that xxx

After a fab day yesterday with long naps, and long periods of awake-but-happy times where she was chatting away to me and smiling, we had another bad night. But oddly way less frustrating - I find it so difficult when DD is awake and happy but noisy in the middle of the night cos there's nothing I can do - but last night she was crying with a snuffly nose and terrible wind too. I was like, right, I can actually try to do something about this! Saline drops and bicycling legs helped a bit and then we sat rocking in the nursery chair. She did sleep but punctuated with cries and farts and sneezes. Not really too interested in boob at 4am or this morning, so need to make sure she's taking enough.

Health visitor coming this morning so will find out how much she weighs and hopefully get a red book at last!!

Ladies how often do you bath your babies?

TwigletFiend · 14/01/2015 12:28

DD now gets a bath every night as part of her bedtime routine Ark, but only use baby wash every third day and plain water in between.

Sorry to hear about your DPs Aunty, WorkFree. Glad your LO gave everyone something to smile about.

DD has her jabs today. I am a nervous wreck! Going to stop off for some baby Calpol to have on hand if required.

moggle · 14/01/2015 12:46

DD's gets a bath only about once every 4 or 5 days but if she has a particularly messy poo and it's the evening we'll give her one then. We're still just using plain water. She gets washed in all the important areas with a wet cloth every morning. Her skin does seem dry after a bath so I don't really want to make them more frequent, although she does love being in the water! Not quite sure what to have in our bedtime routine instead of a bath, maybe a book...

Moggle, what about a little massage or naked time instead? Smile

ToniWol · 14/01/2015 13:07

Workfree - sorry to hear about your DPs aunty.

DD had her jabs today as well Twiglet. She liked the rotavirus one (sweet and sticky) - yelled at the injections, and fell asleep in the carrier on the way home. We already had Calpol though as we bought a bottle to use the syringe for the gripe water, so keeping an eye on her temperature.

She gets bathed twice a week, with a top and tail in between. We just use a little baby bath on her hair. Everything else is plain water.

She's mid growth spurt at the moment though - 10 feeds in 24 hours. Has been burbling happily in the rocking chair for the past half hour with Sophie whilst I've had my lunch but she's now getting restive.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 14/01/2015 14:25

We bath every night as part of bedtime routine.

Saw infant feeding specialist today and she referred us direct into consultant clinic for tongue tie to be clipped and got us in for Mon, next clinic was not til Feb after that- no consultation needed as they trust her assessment so turn up snip n go by all accounts she is +'ve Will improve feeding n reduce reflux n hopefully improve sleep. Going to stick out 4weeks dairy free 1week down!! Then slowly reintroduce n if issues will know cmpi.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 14/01/2015 14:27

Toni I couldn't tell you how many feeds we have in 24hrs but between 7pm n 7am we have about 10 without daytime feeds which feel like my boobs are a constant snack bar!! I know it gets better though from ds1 but so tiring

Greenstone · 14/01/2015 14:45

Glad you got sorted east. Hope things improve for you.
Things have really gone backwards for us the last few nights but they were never really forwards Confused sigh. Loads and loads of feeds per 24 hours here also and still issues with wind, especially after antibiotics. I'm considering trying dairy free too, seems a bit ridiculous at 10 weeks in but will try to give it a shot once have stocked up on supplies.

Anyone else feeling a bit bleak? It's the time of year, so grim...

amy83firsttimer · 14/01/2015 15:27

ark roughly weekly on baths here with baby bath in water then a basting with olive oil and salt and pepper after.
We do a changing table bath with warm water and a muslin if we have an explosive poo or a big vom.

Sleeping loads in the day yesterday and today. Hope he's Ok. I've purposely cut down my caffeine intake so that might be why.

amy83firsttimer · 14/01/2015 15:29

greenstone Yes to bleak feeling. I've just taken DS to my parents house for the first time and their garden is usually amazing and today it just looked so sad and wintry. Roll on spring!

Greenstone · 14/01/2015 15:39

Re baths. We weren't allowed to bath dd for 10 days after her surgery and between the flap of Christmas and rushing to hospital etc it had been about 4 days since she'd had one at that stage. So 2 weeks with no bath apart from the odd sponge down and proper bum wash every day.
She didn't smell even a tiny bit! Babies are amazing.

she did have lint between her fingers though

happypotamus · 14/01/2015 16:48

I bath her a couple of times a week with plain water. You can tell she is DC2. DC1 got bathed every day, DC2 gets bathed when I get round to it! In between baths I wash her with cotton wool.

Annarose2014 · 14/01/2015 17:33

Baths a couple of times a week. He dislikes them, and it kills my back, so its not enjoyable. Top 'n tail on the changing table the rest of the time.

But tbh, I don't understand the baths-as-bedtime-routine thing. It seems like you're just making work for yourself! I have a friend who's baby now won't sleep without the bath so she's had to resort to desperate measures when on holiday such as putting wadded toilet paper in shower drain to plug it up and desperately trying to bathe the baby in 3 inches of tepid water in the shower tray. Hmm Never worked. Always fraught.

I don't get it. Why would you want the bedtime routine to be LONGER?!!

catg83 · 14/01/2015 17:35

DS gets a bath a couple of times a week but we have nothing like a routine here.

YY to the lint between the fingers!

Annarose2014 · 14/01/2015 17:37

Had a bit of a grim experience today - got scar tissue in my vagina burnt off. Blush

OUCHOUCHOUCHOUCH!!!

She showed it to me afterwards - it was the size of my little fingernail. No wonder I was sore. Hopefully I can draw a line under my fanjo woes now!

amy83firsttimer · 14/01/2015 17:41

Wince face!!!!

ladydolly · 14/01/2015 19:21

Anna she SHOWED it to you?? Omg!! Congrats on the end of your fanjo probs though! I think I've finally got my cs wound uninfected. Can't wait to not smell of TCP.

We bath babydolly nearly everyday. It is the start of the bedtime routine but tbh, I get dp to do it and it gives me a half hour break and that's my main motivation. I always play the ewan the dream sheep's music in wind down and the white noise for when she's going to sleep in the hope that those will be triggers for holidays and at my mums etc.
Although so far the bedtime routine has done precisely sod all to help get babydolly to sleep before she's good and ready. at least 4 hours later

ladydolly · 14/01/2015 19:27

We had a bloody near death experience today!! A car mounted the pavement and crashed into a garage right where I'd been pushing the pram just seconds before. I didn't think about anything other than the driver until a man ran over to check I was ok and tell me how lucky I was. Massively freaked out!!

Celebrated cheating death with 2 creme eggs.

Thisisimpossible · 14/01/2015 20:19

Jeez Anna and Ladydolly! You win joint first prize for the 'Shit Day' award!

Thisisimpossible · 14/01/2015 20:21

Ark I tend to have DS in the bath with me probably 1-2 times a week. We usually wait until he's managed to have a poo explosion. He loves it! We also occasionally use it as a calming tool in the evening if he's having one of his screamy nights.

ladydolly · 14/01/2015 20:47

thisis we just had our first bath together - it was lovely! She really enjoyed it and there was enough room for her to have a little swim (well, float around while I held her head). She's conked out now so perhaps that's the way forward.

I've ordered a mini blow up bath to go in our bath so the water covers her a little more without us having to fill the entire bath.

caravela · 15/01/2015 00:02

I love bathing with baby and she loves it too, but it's a special treat as it's a bit of a faff to arrange. She also likes her own baths - we bought a tummy tub which is great as she can already sit in it virtually unsupported and we don't have to worry about her slipping under and it takes no time to fill. We don't do it every day or at a set time though - don't want to make it a fixed routine for the reasons Anna mentioned, and anyway she sometimes needs unpredictable baths because of explosive poos.

lady we tried Ewen the dream sheep as part of the bedtime routine but it totally backfired as dd hasn't read the product description and so doesn't realise she's meant to find it soporific. She seems to find Ewen tremendously stimulating, and when he's switched on, goes into a cooing and panting routine that ends up with her getting over-excited and crying. Even seeing Ewen hanging above her is incredibly exciting, so he has to be out of sight at bedtime now. She smiles at him more than at me! Still it's really good for keeping her busy while I shower and get dressed in the morning.

WorkFreeWannabe · 15/01/2015 00:39

Thanks everyone for your condolences. Somehow he managed to sleep from 8 onwards in a room full of nearly 30 people 'loudly' sharing memories and stories of the good old days.

Wow! LadyDolly, that must have been a shock! Glad you both are alright.

Absolutely shattered today. My mum announced in the morning I needed to chauffeur her to her hospital appointment, plus taxi her around the shops. So no naps for me today. Plus Baby WorkFree has screamed continuously since we got home at 3 today for no bloody reason whatsoever, just because he can! He's down now so hopefully he'll sleep through.

Arkkorox · 15/01/2015 09:51

Hope everyone has had a half decent night. DD went down at 1-5, woke up fed for about 5 seconds before falling asleep again then woke up at 9:15! No crying either she was just lying in her moses basket practicing all her new sounds till I got her up about 10 mins ago! One happy lady today.

MIL visiting later..... DD will be asleep and then I will get moaned at for not keeping her awake so she can be cuddled... Hmm
