Ah poor Lauren, hope she is feeling better soon.

Jambot - I was to hear about the number of c/s in SA. There are definitely good reasons for a having a c/s, but overall I would guess that having a vb was easier, esp for the recovery. I am certainly no expert on it though, so couldn't really comment any further.
Leo - Good luck with whatever you decide. If you decide that a c/s is the right thing for you and your babies, then at least it will not be an emergency c/s so things will be very different from when you had Niklas, and a lot calmer I suspect.

Umum - thanks for your kind words! I think I will have to be a super woman when the twins are born !

Jambot - i hope that Lauren is on the mend now!

Jo - i will definitely only opt for a cs if the consultant thinks the risk is too high (and can give me a good enough reason) to go for a vb. I'm still hoping that I will be able to but want to be more prepared for anything that could happen this time.

Jambot - I think Brazil has the same situation as SA, where the wealthier private people have something like a 90% rate of cs compared to 20% for everyone else. I think some of it is culture and attitude, if everyone around me was having css then i wouldn't think so much about it as i would be more focused on the positives of it.

Poor Niklas had a very bad night last night and is still bad today. He has bad bronchitis again so we have another set of new drugs to try him with , plus the ventalin again if we think he needs it!

busywizzy · 27/11/2006 15:00

Hello everyone and sorry to hear that Lauren is still poorly and Niklas has bronchitis again Harrison is completely better (at last) and has been eating like a horse today. He hasn't eaten properly for over a week which is hugely significant in his life as usually he's like a little dog begging for scraps from everyone else's plates. The rash is gone, temperature is normal and he's even stopped moaning every second he can't see me ............. it's heavenly I hadn't realised how stressed I had been about it all until today when he's happy and smiley again and I've felt a weight off my shoulders.

Leo, I hope it all comes good for you with the twins birth. I was like you and hadn't realised until some time later just how long it had taken me to bond with Hannah. Actually, I remember the exact moment I realised I really did love her - she was 13 weeks old and got rushed to hospital with a viral infection which had developed into a huge cyst on her neck. I thought she was going to die (although I knew logically she wasn't really in that much danger) and I suddenly realised that I loved her with all my heart, having spent the previous 13 weeks wondering why I'd ever wanted a baby. I'm ashamed to admit that, but I wanted to share it just to say it's very normal and doesn't bear any relation to how you'll feel next time round.

Sorry, meant to pop in and say hello and instead waffled on and on and on and on

Back to work for me.

Pidge · 27/11/2006 20:25

Lots of poorly babies - Iris is a bit forlorn too - terrible cough, and she's not eating, but otherwise she's pretty cheerful. She does say "mama, sleep inthe cot" fairly regularly though, so I guess she's pretty tired!

And our house is a veritable hive of germs. My parents arrived last Thursday with stinking colds and my dad retired to bed for 2 whole days. Then dp came down with the vomiting bug I had last week! And I got 3 hours sleep last night due to him being sick all the time. So all in all, we could do with rewinding and starting the week again.

I'm about to go off to bed at 8.30pm, hoping to wake all refreshed tomorrow for work.

jambot · 29/11/2006 13:05

Lauren all better. Rash gone and eating like a horse. Shame Pidge - horrid when everyone is ill.
Lauren going to my Mum and Dad to sleep tonight. My friend from London is out and we are going for dinner with some other friends to a snazzy restaurant in town. Had to ask around - so out of the going out scene that I have no idea what the in places are at all.
Leo - got an e-mail from that friend of mine that moved to Geneva in August. She is very settled, the kids are at a french speaking nursery and are loving it. So all in all, seems happy, although missing family.

Pidge · 29/11/2006 21:19

Hooray for the recovering babies.

Iris is still not great. Apparently she spent the time at the childminders saying "home .... home". . Cue rather large guilt trip from me. But there's nothing I can do. She's not really so sick that I need to keep her home, and work is unbelievably frantic.

Meanwhile, my parents are still here - recovering from their colds, but whilst in charge of the kids tonight my mum managed to fall down our stairs. So I got back from work to find her lying on the sofa with an ice-pack on her ankle. She is hobbling about now. I feel our house is a bit doomed at the moment!!! At least dp has stopped vomiting . Roll on the weekend.

busywizzy · 03/12/2006 18:46

Hello everyone

We've had a lovely weekend. DH and I went to a Thanksgiving dinner yesterday afternoon/evening and my parents came to our home to look after the children. We had turkey, roasted yams, butternut squash, pumpkin pie, pecan pie and copious amounts of alcohol in between (nice except I was the designated driver ). It was a really grown up evening and as we were the only couple with children, all the chit chat and conversation was children free. Took me a while to adjust but once I was in the flow, I had a ball. Got home about 12.30pm, children were fast asleep and didn't wake until after 8am - how cool is that.

Spent today just lazing around, cooked another roast dinner (like we didn't eat enough last night) and the children have played lovely all day - not a squabble or a cross word. Someone was looking down on me this weekend and clearly thought I deserved a treat

Hope everyone is well - haven't heard much from anyone lately.

leogaela · 03/12/2006 20:59

Busy, I just felt shocked reading your post about copious amounts of alcohol and a dinner with childfree conversation! I've forgotten what that is like although had almost got to that stage before I got pregnant again! And now I am feeling very !

Glad you had a good weekend.

Pidge, hope you are all better!

Niklas seems to be well again, but sleeping loads (which is nice but a bit worrying)!

Umum - I meant to say before how impressed I am that you have Ksenia out of nappies! Niklas has been telling us for months when he is making 'Kaki' but we haven't done anything about geting him out of nappies, (he makes us laugh though as he says 'Urgh, kaki' when he is doing it - to which we ask 'Niklas have you made kaki, do you need your nappy changed?', to which he very quickly replies 'Nein' !

Jambot - glad that your friend is enjoying Geneva!

busywizzy · 03/12/2006 21:12

LOL at Niklas and his nappy Harrison is exactly the same and will tell us once he's done a poo, but even if he's just told you he's done a poo and you ask him if he needs a clean nappy he say's 'NO' and runs away. I can't imagine why on earth he'd want to keep such a smelly thing on him (he definately takes after daddy in that department) but it doesn't bother him at all.

I'm sure Niklas is sleeping a lot because his little body's recovering from being poorly. Harrison was the same all last week and was sleeping for upto 3 hours during the day and then in bed as usual by 7.30pm at the latest. Make the most of it and put your feet up whenever you can

Pidge · 03/12/2006 21:20

Latest saga here is that dp has now done something to his leg - torn a muscle or something, sounds innocuous but I thought yesterday we were going to end up in A&E as he looked like he was going to faint in pain. Anyway, he's hobbling about now, so hopefully he'll be on the mend soon. I swear this house is a disaster zone on the health front at the moment. Dd1 has now got Iris's cold and is all husky and lacking energy!!

Iris can now report "poo poo pants" thanks to older sister! But it's by no means reliable. She does ask to go on the loo sometimes, but frankly it's usually when I'm in the middle of burning their supper, or trying to stop Cleo painting on the table or something. So I've just told her to go in her nappy !

busywizzy · 03/12/2006 21:28

Wow Pidge, you should have a health warning on your door for people not to cross the threshold. Poor DP, and poor you having to look after him and Cleo - not a task I'd envy.

LOL at Cleo teaching Iris 'poo poo pants' Hannah's started picking Harrison up and sitting him on the toilet (and he's had to be rescued a few times having fallen in) so now whenever he's done a wee (so we've still got some work to do yet) he runs up and say's 'Toilet'. I keep thinking I'll get a potty and put it in the bathroom for him to get used to but bad mummy that I am, I've just had too many other things to think about recently - what do I want for Xmas, how will I relax over Xmas

leogaela · 04/12/2006 08:08

Oh Pidge, you are having a bad time of it ! Is your MIL's ankle better? are they still staying with you?

Christmas??? - in a couple of weeks I guess I will panic and realise that I haven't done any shopping, got any presents, christmas cards etc... oh well!

JoPG · 04/12/2006 12:15

Pidge - Your house sounds cursed at the moment, at least everyone will get over their ailments by Xmas and you can have a jolly time and a great new year.

Freya is beginning to chat away at the moment, and she can now say her own name, and she tries very hard to say Ethan, which pleases him a lot.
At the moment her glands behind her ears are really enlarged. I took her to the doctor's and he said that it was a reaction to the chicken pox that she had and it was her body trying to get over it. It is not helped by the fact that she has a couple of chicken pox scabs in her head that she continually fiddles with, and she has made them really sore and infected looking.

Very busy for the next couple of weeks with xmas parties, nativities and birthday parties. I just hope that I don't forget about something!

Freya is really enjoying drawing and colouring at the moment. She will sit for ages in her highchair just drawing on a piece of paper, and she even puts all the lids back on the pens! She shouts 'Nooo' when you try to get her out.

Anyway, must use some of those Xmas smileys

OP posts:
Pidge · 05/12/2006 13:08

Well, my parents are back in Wales. My mum reckoned they'd better leave before further misfortune befell them

And dp is hobbling about - limping spectacularly. The night before last he woke me at 1am in agony because his leg had seized up and he couldn't straighten it, hence couldn't walk to retrieve painkillers. Anyway, last night it was ok and other than his comedy limp he seems to be improving. We had a doctor friend visiting yesterday who gave him a little lecture on alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol for max pain relief etc.

On Friday I cancelled seeing a friend whose kids have had chickenpox, so at least we should be spared that!

Roll on a healthy Christmas I say.

And (cross fingers) I am fine - ran 10 miles on Sunday and felt great!

Oh ... and a question ... have any of your little ones been escaping their cots. Iris is a veritable mountaineer. For daytime naps I have to stay with her till she's asleep, otherwise she unzips her grobag, hurdles out of the cot (which is on its lowest setting) and is found crashing around in her bedroom wreaking havoc and definitely not sleeping. At least she doesn't seem to do it at bedtime in the evening.

JoPG · 05/12/2006 20:54

Lol at Iris escaping from her cot. Freya is not even close to achieving this, she cannot undo her grobag and there is no way she could manage it with her grobag done up. The 18-36 month grobags are pretty tricky to undo, they zip from top to bottom and there is a popper to hide the zip - Freya wouldn't be able to undo it.
At lunchtimes though I cannot let her have her teddy in bed with her, cos she just plays with it if I do. I hear, 'Ahh, teddy' (as she gives him a cuddle) and 'Wheee, teddy' (as she throws him in the air), finally 'Bump, teddy' (as she throws him from the cot), swiftly followed my 'Mummmyyyy, Mummmmyyyy' etc. However, at night she is really good and just gives him a cuddle and goes to sleep

ukrainianmum · 05/12/2006 21:54

Hello every one!!!

How are you all doing?Babies are recovering, developing making eveybody happy! That is good news.
Ksenia got sick again.not like she was completely well but she was doing much better and at the weekend the strong cough came back and all and Ksenia being sick three nights in a row.I just wonder it is a dry cough it is obviuosly irritates her throat but doctor said it all good good.So today we went to clinic and they took swabs from Ksenia@s throat. The results will be tomorrow.
I am giving her some herbal teas and it seems like it is helping a bit.

LOL about nappies changing. And escaping from the cot.Well i dont have that problem coz sheis sleeping with me on the bad but it ius really hard to put her asleep.Ksenia will roll over million times, tell me everything she knows and doesnotknow, put every toy to sleep and than she can fall asleep herself. So normally it takes about an hour.

And I am still in process to make all the documents for my visa.God that is a lot of paper they want. What they gonna do with it after?

Take care and happy hunting for the Xmas presents. It will not start here till 25-26 dec coz our Xmas is on 7th of Jan so we still have time

ukrainianmum · 05/12/2006 21:58

did anyone of you checked the website about hand made jewellery that my friends makes by herself. There are great stuff if you like something like it.And great presents as well.Check it again this

leogaela · 06/12/2006 13:03

Pidge, we have Niklas in a bed with no sides now and he is quite good at not leaving it once we have put him into it although he plays around much more before he goes to sleep than he did in his cot. I find that if he hasn't done enough in the morning or we put him to bed too late then its a problem getting him to go to sleep for his midday nap. I confess on Monday (when i had had a really bad morning with him, tired myself, bad cold) i yelled at him when he wouldn't settle, didn't hear a peep out of him after that !

Umum, sounds as if poor Ksenia is struggling the whole time against illness as Niklas did last winter . I really sympathise, its tough and really gets you down seeing your little one ill or half ill all the time.

I will check out your friends website, I could get some pressies for people in the UK from it.

Niklas is well again at the moment! Phew!

tamula · 06/12/2006 16:05

hi guys!!

i hope youare all doing really well.

i had dd2 (Astrid) 28.11.06 over in less than 2 hrs, 10.1 lb 4.58kg natural birth not even gas and air!! didnt have time!

Ava is fantastic with her, kisses and cuddles her all the time and is so gentle.

I unfortunately still look pregnant but i'm working on that!

We are all well and hope you all are too.

Much love Tam, Ava and baby Astrid

jambot · 06/12/2006 17:02

Congratulations Tamula! Welcome to Astrid and glad that everything went well, Let us know how it is going and post a pic of your two girls together.

JoPG · 07/12/2006 12:40

Very many congratulations to you and your lovely family.
Hope you enjoy these precious first few weeks.

OP posts:
Pidge · 07/12/2006 12:58

tamula - wonderful news - many, many congratulations. And what a lovely name. Enjoy getting to know Astrid. Two kids is a great experience in my view!!! I keep muttering about 3, but not just yet ....

JopG - Iris has been in an 18-36 month grobag for ages - but there's no popper over the zip. It does zip from the bottom, but she's been able to undo it for months. Leo - we might have to think about the bed sometime if she continues to hurdle out of the cot, if only because she might hurt herself escaping!

JoPG · 07/12/2006 16:16

OK, I spoke to soon - Freya can get out of her grobag! She managed it this afternoon when she was absolutely just not tired enough for a nap - well so she thought! She undid the poppers over her shoulders and crawled out, I heard her shouting 'Mummy', and when I went into her room she had thrown the grobag out of her cot and had taken off her trousers and socks! She thought she was very funny . I was not so impressed cos I had loads of jobs lined up that I needed to get done, she is a little minx.
(And I am not letting her talk to Iris again, they must be on www.babynet.com checking out ways of escaping from grobags and cots!)

OP posts:
leogaela · 07/12/2006 20:13

Tamula, that's wonderful news, congratulations!!!! It sounds as if you had a really good birth experience !

ukrainianmum · 07/12/2006 21:28

Tamula0-congratulations on little baby girl!Beautiful name she has.Gonna be a singer or an actress!

I am trying to apply for a visa on-line and my stupid, stupid pc probably got some virus and when i am half way there it send me some error and the connection is off and the modem is still working...So i needed some time to cool off.I did 3 tries.one more and the pc is up to a big damage!

Got the test results for Ksenia-she is one healthy baby and she is still coughing. And nobody knows what it is.

What is a grogbag? Is it like sleepsuit?Coz it puts smiles on my face the stories how babies escape from those bags but i wanna have the whole picture.

Ok,gonna have a cup of green tea and try to apply for visa again
