New thread because our initial thread is about to max out.

For babies born around September 2014 - or just before for early arrivals and just after for late arrivals.

You know your in-laws best.

Mine were OK with being asked not to smoke in their own home when the children were there.

But they wouldn't have been OK with an expectation that they should not smoke for 1 hour (or however long) before we arrive. If I'd have asked this, I suspect they would have agreed to my face but conveniently forgot in the event. Then no doubt have swore blind that they had not smoked when we arrived, even with the smell hanging in the air.

I should say I am also not a smoke-basher. DH and I both smoked until Jan 2013 and smoked through having three of our children, just never in the house.

Well done on giving up, btw Flowers

Ella oh I am jealous of your girls' night out! Not feeling quite ready to leave dd just yet (the fact she's ebf and seems offended if we offer her ebm doesn't help!) but looking forward to the time I can. Enjoy it!

How are you all handling daytime naps? Dd sleeps well at night, almost sleeping through, but during the day will only sleep in her bouncer or on me rather than in her crib. She also doesn't seem to have any sort of pattern to her naps apart from in the mornings. Anybody doing any better?

EllaBella Regarding the dummies - I haven't got one for baby boy but had them for my twins and they preferred cheap ones. I started them on more expensive ones that they used to spit out - and we were out somewhere when one got dropped in the road. I popped into a corner shop which was selling no frills bulbous ones for 50p and got one as a temporary replacement which subsequently was loved by the twin in question. I ended up converting to the cheap dummies and never had a problem with them being spat out by either twin. I don't think they are dangerous - just cheaper to make and unbranded.

Enjoy your night out ! Smile

Right, struggling a bit with sleep pattern here ; ds slept from 7pm to 2am, then was wide awake till now! Couldn't get him to sleep whatever I did :( I hope at least he sleeps for 4-5 hours but I very much doubt that

TeamEponine · 08/11/2014 05:32

Our main issue through the night is DD farting!!! Blush It really disturbs her sleep, and therefore mine. She's only fed about every three hours, but needs settling about once an hour, always related to her farting! Any ideas on how to reduce this? The other night she slept for six hours straight, but there was a distinct lack of farting action. I think of she wasn't so windy she would sleep far longer between feeds. She's on infacol an colief at every feed already and I went dairy free last weekend. We can't do warm baths or tummy massage due to her pavlik harness. Any other ideas?!

cookielove · 08/11/2014 06:35

Argh I've been up since 4am ds is fast asleep but I am awake my body can't switch off. It keeps happening!

holls2000 · 08/11/2014 10:55

Team I have a similar problem so am going to try comfort milk today and see if that makes a difference. We also get trapped wind which also causes issues.

TeamEponine · 08/11/2014 11:07

I hope the new formula works for you! I've just been reading up on cranial osteopathy. Anyone ever given it a try? I'm seriously considering it as I've read quite a few reports of it helping to settle babies.

cookielove · 08/11/2014 14:29

Team if you try it let us know if it works Smile

bananapickle84 · 08/11/2014 14:42

Team I have had several friends try this and it has worked a dream. I've considered trying it for my DS and his digestion problems but not sure we can afford it.

Acorncat · 08/11/2014 17:14

I keep meaning to book the cranial osteopathy, must get round to it. I've read good things about it though it's expensive. Worth it if it helps though!

TeamEponine · 08/11/2014 17:40

I've emailed a local person today. Fingers crossed they get back to me soon! Will report back when I have some news Wink

holls2000 · 08/11/2014 19:01

Haven't started formula as want to speak to HV first.
Bit worried as DS has had big (130ml) feed at 3.30, and then was wide awake until he then took 70ml after his bath and massage at 6.30 and is out like a light at the moment. We started bed tine half an hour earlier just because of logistics this evening so I suppose routine took same amount of tinme pretty much but still.

neddle · 08/11/2014 23:26

We've been using an osteopath as z doesn't like sleeping on her back. We have a training college near us, so the treatments are cheaper. £20 for the first one and £13-25 for the others. We got a free treatment for taking part in a focus group for a student as well. Might be worth looking for trainees nearby?

Nazly · 08/11/2014 23:44

Yes we have tried it when ds was 6weeks ish, we had a course of 6 session - it is difficult to summarise what I think very briefly but in a nutshell it is one of those things you would never know how helpful it has been - this is specially true for digestion issues -

DS got a lot better after a couple of sessions but by then he was 8-9 weeks and many say he would have gotten better anyhow... We can never be sure if it was the treatment or his age that helped... I still can not believe massaging a few points of a baby body for 15 min or so would make any big difference to his digestion system - but we decided we do it as we felt we should do anything that may help...

I have to say if your babies have specific spinal issues, such as not wanting to be on their back even for a sec , or if yours was assisted delivery, I think it is highly likely that you benefit from these treatments as I have a few friends who did. But I still have my doubts about its effect on digestion

On a side note: hang in there ladies, it will pass sooner than you think... DS is 12.5 weeks and almost all digestion issues are gone (apart from reflux, but even that is a lot better now) ...They just grow out of it really quickly..

holls2000 · 09/11/2014 01:54

Oh helllllppplll. Ds has.decided his new night time eating routine is 7pm, 10pm, 1.15am etcetcetc goodness only knows what the rest of the night holds in store. He has gone from having 200ml of ready made at midnight and 3 am to having 140 at 7, 80 at 10 and 100 just now. He is 7 weeks. What can I do to encourage him to go longer?

Nazly · 09/11/2014 04:52

Ds has a temperature of 37.5 and where he normally poos two times a day he has 6 dirty nappies yesterday ; he coughs and sneezes too - time to visit a doctor? Would you say it can wait till Monday assuming the temp does not rise to 38? Or shall I find a walk in centre tomorrow?

TeamEponine · 09/11/2014 06:49

How does he seem in himself Nazly? If he seems pretty much himself, then it probably isn't too much to worry about, but if he doesn't seem himself then maybe take him to an out of hours doctors? Or maybe call the non-emergency NHS number and see what they advise? It is probably always best to err on the side of caution with little ones. How old is he now?

cookielove · 09/11/2014 08:25

holls sometimes Eli does that, but will still sleep for 3 or 4 hours during the night! I hope that is the case for you?

nazly I would give calpol to bring the temp down and get a Dr appointment asap, when they are little it's better to get them checked out!

Allisgood1 · 09/11/2014 09:11

Nazly, definitely dr today. Fevers in young babies need investigating as they often deteriorate v quickly.

Holls, probably a growth spurt. Go with it for now, it won't last forever Smile

Team, I did cranial osteo with dd2. To be honest it was a load of crap. I have had much much better results using chiropractic and would recommend them over osteo any day.

ilovemonstersinc · 09/11/2014 09:21

How is he today naz? 37.5 isnt really a temp but could be coming down with something esp with all thr sneezing and shitty nappies. I would still get him checked out just to make sure hes ok. If you ring your drs it should go to ooh dr and they will see him.
