Nazly, my supply dropped last week. I had an ear infection and had been a bit rubbish about expressing as much as I should as we had guests over the weekend.

My ear infection has improved. I've upped the frequency of when I express which might not been possible for you. I've taken fenugreek (which is supposed to take 72 hours to kick in). Upped my fluids. Made sure I'm eating properly (I've probably not been looking after myself as well as I should) and made sure I've actually taken my vitamins rather than forgetting.

I've not been resting any more than previously.

On Monday I made 750mls. Today I should finish on just over 1000ml after I finish the session I'm on.

What the magic thing has been, or whether its just not being sick, I don't really know.

We were very lucky as our friends and relatives fell into two camps. Although the 'just about to have number two' so they didn't really have anything second hand we had the totally batshit crazy 'OMG a baby' crew, who have no children or realise this one is liable to be the closest in the family to them. The later group have been amazingly hugely embarrassingly generous. One of DH's female friends spent a bloody fortune as she (apparently) doesn't want kids of her own, and seems to have 'adopted' DS as her nephew (think over £150 on various bits and pieces - like I say, embarrassing). Something tells me, that a change of heart at some point in the future is liable!

I've just bought a few bits on clearance at the supermarket in addition to a hand full of things I bought on holiday. The best buy I made was a reduced to £3 fleecy sleep suit from Morrisons which DS slept in most nights before he was big enough for his sleeping bag. He couldn't keep his blankets on, so it was a godsend that he had that.

I was so upset when that went in the box to be passed on to a new home.

TeamEponine · 15/12/2014 02:26

Nazly - You could try taking fenugreek? It boosted my supply within 24 hours. Or have lots of oats as they are supposed to be good for supply.

Nazly · 15/12/2014 04:08

Just looking at fenugreek on amazon, so many out there, which one is better? Which one did you use team that worked in 24 hours?

Eeek, ds has woken up twice till 3am which is not normal; I just felt a bit cold myself while feeding him so put on a blanket on both of us and he fell asleep immediately... Hate to think he was waking cause he is cold as he is just recovering from cold... Why why can I not get the temperature right! I am now debating how much should I increase temp/add blanket before he overheats!

TeamEponine · 15/12/2014 06:08

I got it from Holland and Barrett. I would think they are all pretty similar though. I didn't notice any smell when I was taking them either.

Oh, thanks for the clothes advice! Every single thing about these little bundles is so complicated!

holls2000 · 15/12/2014 06:31

clothes. ..I find Sainsburys babygros etc fine but their trousers dungarees etc are short on b.

have done a massive trawl on ebay and have got good stuff for not v much inc baby boden lined trousers which as well as being warm are also long. we have some little white co dungarees that are 0-3 and still on big side whilst I put him in something the other day that was asda 9-12.....

polkadotdelight · 15/12/2014 07:52

Morning all. Im still following the thread but dont get much chance to post. DS has just gone 11 weeks and now that we are getting somewhere with the reflux he is sleeping better but he is wide awake for the day at 5am. Is he the only one and is there anything I can do? He starts stirring at 4ish and Ewan the Dreamsheep keeps him settled for a while, then I switch the cot mobile on so I can stay in bed a bit longer but comes 5ish its game over. Even after a feed he wont go back down. I cant complain as he will do a 5 hour stretch but 5am is killing me.

Nazly · 15/12/2014 09:18

Polka ds did that around 10-11 weeks then he started sleeping longer but when he would not settle I took him to bed with me for a while. He now goes to about 7-8 ish unless of course he is poorley

I think it is a phase and will pass soon...

Nazly · 15/12/2014 09:22

Holls woow the little white co stuff is expensive !

I like h&m stuff, we are given some & they are cheap and cheerful and wash well

Nazly · 15/12/2014 09:23

Sorry for triple post - Thanks team thanks red for advice

holls2000 · 15/12/2014 10:06

nazly they were a present!

b is still doing the munch fists/grunt/groan thing I think he is doing it for comfort but not finding a position that soothes him. any ideas?

FATEdestiny · 15/12/2014 13:48

Naz Re milk supply. I would guess that it is affected most by you being unwell. I was unwell last week and have really struggled. Indeed have given DD a carton of formula one evening Shock - but then I'm a lot less precious about ebf as I used to be.

I'm focusing on increasing supply this week and I have decided to express less, not more. I was expressing so DD had at least one bottle of expressed milk a day, often two, to get her used to bottles. It's worked too well I think she is favouring the easiness and immediate milk that a bottle gives. I've been getting boob rage (she's not done before) because the milk isn't immediate at the breast.

So I'm going cold turkey and neither expressing nor giving a bottle - focusing on the breast which is as it should be I guess.

I'll be able to go back expressing later if needed, but while I'm having a wobble I'm just going to focus on the breast.

FATEdestiny · 15/12/2014 13:50

Holls My DD has started fist chewing this week. I think it is just because she had discovered she has hands! (it' a developmental step, DD is 11 weeks).

Slightly annoying because she pushes the dummy out of her mouth in order to chew her fists, but hay ho.

Acorncat · 15/12/2014 14:01

Well DS is still a bit poorly Sad he was in hospital all weekend as he needed oxygen while he slept. We're home now and his breathing seems a bit better so really hoping he's over the worst of it.

Re the hands in mouth thing, I'm pretty sure for mine that it's a pain thing as its worst when either he desperately needs to burp/fart or when his reflux is bad, he's really quite desperate about it. He chews on them while he's awake but its more of a calm chew. Saying that, he also chews them when hes knackered and trying to self soothe so actually don't have a clue!

bananapickle84 · 15/12/2014 15:26

There is so much illness around. DS has an upper respiratory infection which isn't being treated for the time being but I have to take him back to the Drs tomorrow morning to check he hasn't got worse.

I think the trigger for the doctor to keep an eye on him is the drop in feeding. Three weeks ago DS was taking 38 ozs and now is only taking 22 ozs.

He did sleep really well last night but he was dosed up on Calpol, karvol and plug in thingy and was propped up on a pillow.

DH is also ill. It's all so tiring Hmm

All four of us are sat on the sofa watching a movie feeling a bit sorry for ourselves!

bananapickle84 · 15/12/2014 15:29

Oh I find Next to be on the bigger size. DS is growing out of some 3-6 mths but the Next ones are going strong.
H&M are also good and cheaper! I do like the Sainsburys stuff but like others the body is fine but the legs are short.

cookielove · 15/12/2014 16:50

I found the clothing thing a mystery, today Eli is wearing a gap long sleeve vest and gap trousers both in 0-3 months and a t-shirt from next which is up to three months, the t-shirt and trousers are roomy and the vest short on the arms!

Eli had his injections today and has been super sleepy and unsettled today, they are his last set till a year so hopefully he'll bounce back soon.

The last 2 nights he has slept 10pm-7am I hope his injections don't mess it up!

Also when I was breastfeeding i really struggled to fill Eli up and needed help with my supply I asked the Dr for a drug that boosts it and she said she had never heard of it and now everything i watch or places I go suggest this drug! I'm mad at my Dr now. If she had given me it I might still bf now :(

RedToothBrush · 15/12/2014 17:28

Fenugreek is herbal so isn't something your doctor is likely to suggest cookie. It does appear to one of those rare remedies that has a certain amount of studies done on it, which seem to suggest it actually does work more than just being a placebo (though not for everyone). The Egyptians apparently used to use it for the same purpose.

I find it does take more than 24hours to improve things for me. (I use Holland and Barrett too). And I also find when I use it, I get blocked ducts pretty soon after so I try and use it sparingly when I need a boost.

Acorn, hope your DS is on the mend. Sounds like you were very right to be worried last week unfortunately.

FATEdestiny · 15/12/2014 18:01

I might get some Fenugreek. I would only get from Holland & Barrett because of the high risk buying anything you swallow online.

But first the scientist in me wants to understand how it works before I am willing to take it. Have you any idea? Do you think staff at H&B would be able to tell me?

FATEdestiny · 15/12/2014 18:02

btw - is it said as it is spelt? (fen-you-greek)

I don't want to look an idiot when asking!

RedToothBrush · 15/12/2014 18:37

It contains phytoestrogens, which are similar to the estrogen apparently.

Honeybear30 · 15/12/2014 20:36

I'm tiiiiiiiired! Sorry just wanted to say :(

I read DS three Mr Men books while he lay in his crib after bed time feed tonight and he went to sleep Shock it's a fluke right? Bet it doesn't work tomorrow.

FATEdestiny · 15/12/2014 21:20

Thanks Red.

Honey - I'm so sorry you are tired, early night tonight though if DS is asleep. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

I had a much better feeding day today. No hassle of expressing (I usually express for after every feed) made life generally easier and less stressful for me. As a result I relaxed more. Left DD on the breast much longer than I usually would. I tend to lift and put her down to sleep once she starts 'messing around' with the nipple rather than feeding. Left her to play today, it was actually quite lovely.

As a result she got into a really deep sleep on me so stayed asleep for ages. This morning she went too long asleep and I had some boob rage because the milk wouldn't come fast enough. But after that I've been waking her after 2 1/2 to 3 hours to feed again. She's been really calm and sleepy as a result.

Just had 40 minutes of her naked on a change mat on floor looking at Christmas tree lights. Some lovely cooing and talking. I took a video for prosperity, she has a lovely voice.

cookielove · 15/12/2014 23:27

Oh I didn't mean fenugreek I took that and ate shed loads of oats there us an actual drug that starts with a d that increases supply!

cookielove · 15/12/2014 23:29

here it is!
